Re: A Cock to Hide! (Ranger9000)
"I'll keep some of the wood in here to so it'll stay dry and we can cook something up in the morning," Karina said, putting 4 or 5 good sized logs in the tent with them, and setting them some rocks to put against the fire outside, that they could put under their bedroll and furs to help heat the tent some through the night. "It does get a bit chilly, the closer we get to the mountains," Karina explained, not taking chances it seemed.
That night, they slept mostly in peace, though Anya was awakened by the rumbling of thunder that sounded outside after 3-4 hours of sleep. Karina was sitting just inside the tent's entry flap, keeping a close eye out around them, and using a long stick she'd gotten to stoke the fire and push extra logs into it through the night to keep it burning as best she could, to keep exchanging the heated rocks out. "Hey... go ahead and get you some more sleep. I woke up about an hour ago, thought I heard something. But it just turned out to be a fox sniffing around, looking to get warm by the fire, so I let him stay around a little until he decided to leave," Karina said when she noticed Anya awake, leaning back to kiss her on the cheek and setting one of the warm rocks underneath Anya's side of the bedroll, where fresh warmth coursed through her.
