You can learn the truth of things there. Learn more of yourself there without this new church trying to burn you at the stake or impale you on iron rods.

Suit yourself. Try not to bring too much attention to yourself though. They've gotten good at catching us over these years, the humans. the woman replied, before pausing. I'm Obay, by the way. I can't leave this cave either, or the one above it, Just between the two can I still move. So try and stay out of trouble. she finished, crinkling her face up in a wry smile.

"Nice to meet you, Obay. And I will." Christine says, smiling at the dear old...thing. "I'll see you tomorrow, I hope." Getting up, the kitsune heads towards the closest watch tower she remembers the location of.

Obay smiled and waved, before letting her head fall back from her spot in the pool while Christine went to do... what sounded terribly like Arson.

But it wasn't hard for her to find the watchtower again, her nose was amazing when it wasn't distracting her randomly from moments such as 'O my god that smells absolutely terrible' to 'mmm squirrel...'

But she made it with a minimum of playful foxy detours to the edge of the cut back underbrush, now a little wider, and the watchtower itself going up quickly, the same 6 men still working away diligently.

Christine sits down at the edge of the underbrush and watches the men working on the watchtower, wondering how to best set it on fire. Keeping her distance, the kitsune walks around it, looking for any significant qualities of thatch or oil or the like.

She seemed to be able to move around easily without being bothered, likely due to the fact that none of the men on the ground wanted to be crushed by anything the men on top dropped, and likewise the men up high trying not to kill anyone.


Looking around for anything more flammable then wood, she didn't see any piles of anything particularly explosive, but she did see that they were treating the wood with a tallow varnish which was stored in a wagon near the road.

As for the thatch, there was a pile nearby, likely for the roof when it was finished.

Christine uses her fiery magics to set the wagon on fire, followed by the thatch pile.

The thatch went up quickly enough, the small decidedly unlethal flames needed to start that fire not particularly draining, but the wagon was slower. Thankfully the ground men all charged the thatch hoping to put it out which gave Christine the time she needed to focus.

The second ignition was more like the one she'd used on the priests, the small foxfires forming before exploding, spilling flaming varnish across the wagon which soon set that corner of the forest, as well as the side of the tower ablaze, the men scrambling to try and save the structure but with the varnish itself still fairly new to the wood, it didn't take much to get the whole tower crackling into the air, a pillar of flames, as the men started shouting about spirits and demons, running down the road.

Her endeavor was not entirely favorable however, as the snap of a mechanism, and the whir of fletching gave Christine just enough warning to flatten herself to the earth, a crossbow bolt smashing into the brush just above her, a man in dark leather scowling in her direction, a gold and silver cross hanging from his neck as he started to rewind the weapon.

Crossbow! No-one had told her there would be crossbows! Quickly throwing herself flat on the ground, Christine decides not to fight six men at once, and slips further into the undergrowth out of sight, moving slowly but with enough noise to maybe attract the would-be shooter. Let's see if I can take him once he's alone.

The crossbowman was fast to get his weapon reloaded, but rather then chase her, he watched the brush move and listened, giving Christine a bare minimum of a chance to get a look at him. He was much younger then the other two men she had killed, maybe in his mid 20's, and the leather he was in was obviously armor. The other men ran around him, and he certainly didn't give way to them even as they struggled and soon gave up on saving the watch tower.

Spitting on the ground, he pulled his hair, a long midnight black ponytail that must have fallen to his back around to his front and sighted down the weapon again, using the hair between his chin and the butt of the weapon as a kind of buffer or rest while he waited.

He refused to go in after her however, and soon started to back away, listening and watching for her, grey eyes seeming unusually sharp under his hair as he stepped away from the burning tower.

She could no longer smell him over the fire, or anything else for that matter, the wind was busy whipping the burning structure into a whirlwind of flame and ash that towered into the sky. The men, rather then try to save the tower, were now hastily dumping water onto the trees, worried about it spreading if it could.

Christine slowly slinks further into the forest. Staying where she was would be risky, and the crossbowman clearly wasn't going to follow her right then. Getting a good way from nearest humans, she decides to take a lunch break and catch something to eat.

Heading off rather then trying to face whoever the hell that was, Christine went to find a meal, which was probably the smarter choice. The pheasants were already back to their last spot and there was plenty of smaller rodents to eat. It was another pheasant that wandered too close to her, the universe practically handing her a meal as the bird pushed through the taller grass smack into her.

As she was eating, the forest went still, unusually quiet. Rodents who would normally avoid her, but not outright hide, were running to their burrows and birds in the trees were leaving or growing still as the wind shifted and leather and oil was brought to her nose on the wind.

Stopping mid meal, Christine stays still and listens for a moment before heading deeper into the forest, looking for a potential ambush site.

Christine didn't hear anything, the only clue she had at all that she was being hunted was the smell on the air, and even that passed as the wind shifted back.

Heading deeper in and looking for a suitable ambush sight, she could find plenty, a clearing, several spots where the underbrush fell over a large tree root she could hide under, even a rabbit burrow that looked out into the forest, as well as Obay's cave. The clearing was the closest, where the tall grass hid the pheasants, and most everything else was surrounding that, this was her territory, favorable ground for her, which probably explained why the hunter was being so careful, she remembered he'd been hard to bait.

Christine opts to hide in the underbrush next to a tree, settling in to wait without making a sound.

Tucking in under a tree to wait, Christine sat there for almost a full half hour, still picking up a brush of the scent now and again, before she caught a glimpse of that black armor through the trees.

It's a good day for me... A fox spirit... maybe the last... he muttered to himself, slipping from behind one tree, to another, following Christine's sign, blood from her kill on his fingers.

If he kept on as he was, he'd move right on by her and likely have to give up, there's be no tracking her through the underbrush into her current hidey hole, or she could try and do something about him. A light whir caught her ear before she decided however and she looked down at his belt and caught a wide spool slowly unwinding as he moved, thread thin wire trailing out behind him, small charms hanging from it every 2 feet or so.

Trickster spirit... On a whim, Christine decides to try throwing her voice. It should come to her naturally, right? Returning to her human shape while carefully staying out of sight, she attempts to throw her voice to an underbrush twenty or thirty feet ahead of the hunter. "Hi. What's your name?"

The hunter froze right where he was, crossbow raised immediately to his shoulder for several tense moments, before lowering it and shaking his head with a grin. Dillian. Come on out, May as well. You should have stayed hidden you know, I'm not too fond of this job... but the perks... he said clearly.

"Perks? That sounds quite interesting. Perhaps I could make you a competitive offer. Or perhaps you might even catch me. You'll never know if you don't come closer..." Christine replies, still throwing her voice and managing to keep it steady, though she feels tingle of nervousness down her spine.
