Some science news

No huge breakthroughs as far as space travel goes, but it's a theoretical milestone in a specific engine. We can say that, at the least, it will work in theory and it's not just them bullshitting for funding
So still good news

So I get that there is reasoning explained on how that shouldn't work, and I'm not quite understanding how it should. There's thrust forward WITHOUT anything propelled in the opposite direction and there's no external interference? That just isn't computing for me.

Well, if there is an emitter throwing energy in some form backwards it should create thrust without technically propelling anything backwards, right? The same way that photons from the sun change the trajectory of objects in space by insanely small amounts?

It very technically does propel some kind of particle in all directions, apparently

But it's shaped in a way that it pushes harder on one side than on the other sides, thus, thrust.
Sort of

Re: In today's news...

Some of the sociology professors who indoctrinated these poor nutcases need to be literally hanged. Easy way to turn people crazy reliably? Turn your academic activities into cultish secretive bullshit full of paranoia and wrecklessly throw the blame of the alleged oppression around on vague terms and ideas that you can't prove exist or matter.

The funny thing is, people will see that batshit craziness, and then still have the audacity to say that "False rape accusations are unlikely." Fuck off.

Apparently the video was originally a facebook status with a huge scrawl of text from the crazed bitch. The amount of likes, my word what a cult:

It's called shitting in the well
A few idiots can ruin it for everyone.

And on the planet, it makes sense we'd find more of those earth-like planets these days. They're harder to find than the gas giants but by science's estimates there could be a whole lot out there. Just that the gas giants throw off the methods of detecting the things so it's a bit hard to find them.

We're going to find a whole lot more in the near future

Re: In today's news...

What makes this particular exo planet discovery so special is that its at our closest neighbouring star.

Though I have to stay its hard to read any news on exo planets because of how sensationalised it always ends up being.
Last year there was a list of the top ten most earthlike worlds. One of them rained molten glass into gale force winds. Not really like earth is it?

Eh, it's metal as all hell though. Imagine how fucking awesome any species that evolved on that planet would be!

That's more high-lighting just how limited our ability to discover exoplanets still is. It's only in the past few years that we've been able to detect exoplanets in large quantities, and the vast majority that can be detected are still gas giants - only the largest solid planets and those extremely close to their star can be detected.

IDK man, this is too... obvious. If you're actually trying to lure children someplace, wearing a clown costume around normal places is just too overt. Granted I don't think many pedos are rocket scientists, but most of them are smart and sneaky enough to get away with it for years. Gotta be a stunt or some bullshit, just gotta be.

That, or some kid made it up and the rest just went with it

But the cops kind of are forced to investigate in case it actually is pedos

Re: In today's news...

A group of 4 Islamist militants raided a camp in the woods of Daegastan in early July and captured 2 men. When they killed his cousin in front of him, they found papers on the remaining Magomed Nurbagandov that identified him as a police lieutenant. They recorded a video with their mobile phones of them questioning and then executing the officer, which was only found in full 2 days ago after the leader of the militant group was killed and some members apprehended.

In the video, they forced him onto his knees, read out his information and asked if that was him and he acknowledged. The following exchange took place.

"Tell your colleagues."

"Tell them what?"

"To quit their jobs"

"Keep on working brothers. What else is there to say?"

Those were some of his final words. He's to receive a state award posthumously for his bravery
