Wait hold on, you're from the medical profession as well? I swear, every other person in our profession must secretly be working on an rpg maker pron game at this rate. :p
Used to be. I burned out as so many unfortunate health care industry people do. Now I divide my game making time with farming.

Is it really a surprise, though? Most of us are smart and driven people and on some level, workaholics. We can handle the 12 hour work days and attention to detail that games require. All you really need to transition from one field to the other is a bit of creativity.

I know what you mean.. Never gonna do palliative, got a friend who does and the amount of depressive episodes they have..
Anyway, yeah, heh, not that much of a suprise. I do wonder if our profession, caring for people deep down, also lends itself to make good pron writers..

I know breeding season makes 35 k a month, which is great for them but their goal is 15k. So many fans ask for them to hire more staff to help with the development and management.
But due to the delays and broken promises you see a sea of hate comments on their blog. Some developers like extra income ,but if a group of people finance your project then learn to be responsible.
Don't go cheap on them and make your h game the best you can make it.

I've done the math on that. If you're doing work-for-hire commission type stuff development is slow but you could get a lot of mileage out of it. But if people are working at $60k a year "industry standard" game dev/game artist pay you could hire only about three people with the dosh they make.

While I certainly think they need to organize things a lot better it isn't quite so simple as you'd think.

I don't want to give names, and afaik no one on these forums should feel addressed, but I will say that there are some large patreons that give others a bad name, basically people that made a patreon account really early on, grew big, had a 'its big so it must be good' effect on people, and now do the work in a month I could do in a week, for basically a high end corporate wage.

Oh well, worlds unfair. :p

I can't imagine my patreon ever getting that high, but if it did then I would have to start some future planned projects, hire people to write them, hire mappers, concept artists, etc.. etc.. While the funds would help me improve the original game quite a bit, it's just not set up in such a way that I would be comfortable with others helping me with the mapping, coding, etc..

I'm hopeful that I can eventually finish it, and then the next project I work on will have clear and concise details in the events that will make it easy for any 3rd party to understand what's going on.

I know there are some really competent mappers/scripters/eventers out there though. It would be tempting to hire them to clean up my mess. xD

That's more or less why I'm building a network NOW instead of later. It isn't cheap and it can fail or waste money but in the long run I'm set up to handle it if I get a huge explosion of money for some reason.

$2000 a month is a lot IMO so I should hope you're building a network. xD

That is good advice though. I'll have to consider looking up writers, mappers, etc.. when I just don't feel like working on FSA.

I've never been good at networking though. I'm not exactly a social butterfly. I'm not on twitter, instagram, and all that other newfangled stuff. But at least I can make a list with all their contact information.

HentaiWriter prods me all the time (as does a lot of my team) about promoting and talking more. I'm the sort of person that can go months without saying a word to another human being. That's why I'm posting so much on ULMF right now, actually. I'm trying to be more active and not just be focused on the crafting portion of the work.

For a lot of us socialization isn't easy, but we have to deal with it. It's a part of making games too. If you make the perfect game and no one knows it exists then it may as well NOT exist.

You will make it that high, I believe in you.

Heh, truth be told when I first went on Patreon almost a year back now I never expected I'd end up spending at least an hour every week not working on the game, but working on getting the game out there sorting feedback from different sources, juggling bug fixes and and communicating with folks.

Is great fun though, definitly happy with things as they are, I meet fun people that write lewd stuff, 's all good.

Re: Is there money in sex games? Is YOUR money in sex games?

Wow this thread went places since yesterday. xD

I am the worst at networking. I am super shy about directly talking to people who actually make things that are good; I perpetually feel like I'm wasting their time. With only a couple exceptions for people who I knew before finding out that they make stuff or who started to make stuff after I already knew them.

As far as Patreon goes, it seems to be mostly a matter of persistence. In spite of my lack of understanding on how to market my game and not having done much, if any, networking I've still somehow managed to end up with around a thousand dollars a month now, and my game is still at a very early stage of development with only a little bit of adult content so far. So, I figure the best thing you can do if you are doubting Patreon's effectiveness is to just start a campaign and give it time to grow. The longer you wait, the longer it'll take to succeed.

Patience is vital with Patreon. It took about a year before I was making decent money on it. Of course during that time I was using every cent to improve the game and keeping none for myself, but that took the burden off of my own pocket.

It takes time and proving to your customers that you're going to finish your work and put out a good product to make it on Patreon. You've got to promote your stuff and continually improve your work to make it work.

Networking remains the most difficult aspect for me, but that's something that can be worked on.

Re: Is there money in sex games? Is YOUR money in sex games?

I think I went the exact opposite route. xD I made my own crappy artwork and did everything myself until a few months ago when I finally started to get a little more income than my expenses and started using the extra to pay an artist to upgrade my artwork. It seems like time is definitely the key similarity. Took me almost a year and a half to reach the income I have now.

Still have no idea how to really promote my work though. xD Mostly I just have a couple threads on relevant forums that I answer questions and get bug reports from. xD

Huh, I guess I'm not failing as hard as I thought then? I dunno, I always feel like I'm not doing something that I'm supposed to be doing.

I've wondered if Twitter, Instagram, etc.. might be a good way to promote a game, but they might not be too happy with hentai games. I don't really know their policies.

Considering that some people tweet their own explicit sex stuff on twitter, I'd imagine it's fine, but twitter is run by the official feminism brand no-fun police, so you'd probably have an easier time self-publishing via activity on active porn development hubs, like tfgamessite, fenoxo.com, here, futanaripalace, or where-ever might be appropriate for your game.

I believe if you want to tweet mature content stuff, you just have to check a box in your settings for it first.

Yeah, porn sites and porn stars have official twitter accounts. Heck, even professional escorts do.

EDIT: On another note, I guess tumblr has a fairly healthy porn-y circuit.
