Let me try to set the tone of this conversation. I play many h-games, as do most of the people who probably hang out in the h-game subforums of sites like these and Hongfire. There are many less than mainstream fetishes and situations that show up in games (I absolutely love one type of situation in general) but there are some that seem to be showing up an awful lot irregardless of the intended tones of the work in question.
For example... doesn't matter if you're a hero in a traditional RPG who gets to boink village girls here and there after he's done saving their towns from monsters, or if you're a hero in a more hardcore "BF" romp with enemy succubi who wish to drain your soul through amazing sex - you're probably going to come across an almost literal checklist of fetishes.
I do not wish to discuss the right/wrong, the validity, or reasoning behind several recurring fetishes. I merely wish to test the waters to see if certain kinks that show up quite a bit really reflect their actual popularity. Perhaps things look more popular than they really are, and maybe content needs to be more tailored for the work in question rather than a "checklist".
Possible examples:
Loli are super popular, like mainstream popular. Also really legally sensitive in countries like America and can get some places shutdown. Lolis show up in work that they don't really have a good reason to be in (see the checklist pattern) but I sometimes notice commercial work tagged as having loli even though it doesn't, and indie games just having a loli out of nowhere. I sometimes wonder if the use of loli content isn't be manipulated as a theft and unauthorized distribution deterrent since places like Hongfire violently B& Hammer download links to anything even suspected of having loli content.
Feet/armpits/elbows/knees/whatever. Footjobs especially seem like they're on a check-list and show up quite a bit in works that don't seem to have much interest in them outside of a token scene. While not as common, I still see the pattern with not-so-erogenous zones.
Dirty Talk - or more accurately hostile/bitchy/PMS talk in just about every spin-off/derivative work ever made since MSQ became popular. Even the Violated Hero series has a bunch of it. I admit, I prefer naughty talk over hostile/bitchy talk which is why I have only lukewarm interest at best for the translated versions of MSQ. Is degrading, jerk-ass naughty talk (irregardless of the gender in 'charge') really that immensely popular that it overshadows regular naughty or even sweet talk during various dom-scenes or is it just considered part of the "formula" so content creators will throw it in whether they like it or not? MSQ was really popular, but it was also pretty much the first/only of its kind. Beggars can't be choosers. Does every femdom monstergirl/succubus work HAVE to copy every fetish and nuance of MSQ?
These are just three examples to get started, not meant to be exclusive. Do keep in mind that I'm more interested in questioning the overall popularity vs statistical distribution (and possibly methods of distribution) of these things.
