I choose.... Alicia!

Whether you want to start her off on an expedition or have her doing her usual, day to day experiments and teaching is fine by me.

Professor Alicia Ildmoruth Brightdragon
HP: 41/41
PP: 53/53
EP: 58/58
Status: Fine

The ancient halls of the Academy had weathered the changing times of history like the stoic expression of a sage. After the repelled assault of the Alien invasion, the only signs of the battle was the expansion of the Magical Creatures Department geared toward the study of these new creatures and the outsiders who were planning their martial maneuvers. Despite this, classes continued albeit with a vigilant eye aimed toward the sky and experienced professors being constantly pulled away toward the war efforts. With her experience with Magical Creatures, Professor Greyback was one such resource and her responsibilities as a teacher and researcher fell to her assistant Professor Alicia Ildmoruth Brightdragon.

Magical Theory classes, in all their forms, was absolutely essential to understanding and making full use of magic. This didn't stop it from being amongst the dullest of the magic courses on the required classes list. Despite some students insistence otherwise, most professors disliked teaching it just as much when they'd rather be conducting their own research. So when the chime indicating the end of class came it was a reason for rejoicing for most.

As Professor Brightdragon dismissed her class, she found herself with a rare afternoon where she didn't have anything currently planned. Her first thought was to head to the research department to continue her work, especially with an expedition coming in two weeks. It had been planned for over than a month and almost all of the preparation work was already done but it couldn't hurt to go over it again. Or she could simply oversee the post graduates in their sampling and research.

Another idea was to have an extra Office hours and see if any students needed any additional help with their studies. There was one student that was drawing her attention lately who she had received some complaints about from the other staff. Despite receiving great marks in her testing, he didn't seem to be applying himself in any of his other classes.

Or she could simply take this afternoon as down time to relax, as foreign a concept as it was at times. If she did, then she had a couple of options. She could have a small stay-in vacation or see what was going on in the teacher's lounge. If she wanted to stretch her legs she could take a stroll around the grounds or even head out to Buttersville to see what was happening there.

Re: NorthernCross Test Thread

After the last of her students for today's lessons had filed out of the stuffy, windowless, constrained, uncomfortable classroom, closing the door behind them, Alicia took off her glasses and placed them on the table. Massaging her fingers into her temples to alleviate the tension caused by teaching such a dull subject (to be lectured on at least, she had actually come to enjoy her personal studies into the nature of magic and the elements that wizards used to represent it) to a room full of up-and-coming magic users was incredibly frustrating. Every time she turned her back, someone had cast a spell on someone, and it had taken until the fifth time that it had happened to find out who was summoning the gusts of wind that had kept lifting her dress up. She had given that particular student a very good reason NOT to repeat those particular antics with her, in the form of a night helping her tend to the captive hunters. She'd let him move on to the less dangerous creatures after needing to clean his pants for the second time, and the lesson had been learned.

Letting out a sigh that took some of her frustrations out of her body, she concentrated on one of the many bright sides: For once, she had the afternoon all to herself. Odd. It wasn't a blue moon. Of course, that just meant that she'd be able to pick which of her many responsibilities that she would see to in her down time, as there was no chance at all that she'd be able to enjoy some leisure time that wasn't stolen. The universe might implode, or something.

She could go over the upcoming expedition again, but she'd done that about a thousand times already and the repetition was giving her a headache. Making sure that none of her more advanced students weren't about to blow up the Academy was similarly unappealing given her current free time, though she figured that she could go and do that any time that she wanted. That left her with adding some open office hours to her schedule. Doing so this late would likely mean a lot of time sitting in her office waiting for people that weren't likely to show up, and that simply wasn't an acceptable use of her time.

However, she could see about nipping the problem with the.... Well, the problem student about whom her colleagues were beginning to complain despite his excellent performance in her own testing. Sighing, she rose from the low desk that was located in her own classroom and, as soon as she found one, flagged down a page and told him to locate the boy in question and tell him to meet her in her office in twenty minutes. If she could get this done quickly, maybe she could go for a walk before proceeding into the dungeons in order to oversee her minions. Thinking that always caused her to grin, and occasionally to produce a fairly maniacal laugh for no apparent reason, which was exactly what Alicia did just as she passed by a group of new students from the class she had just finished.

Sometimes, it was the little things that provided for the most enjoyment in life.

A minute or two later, Alicia arrived at her office and unlocked the door, checking her little mailbox afterwards for any notes from her associates or colleagues before leaving the door cracked open and wandering in. She had a fairly small room, but the range of personal effects and the comfortable, heavily cushioned furniture made it feel fairly homey, at least to her. There was a single window position behind her desk that overlooked the chapel that sat in the corner of the Academy, and she was just high enough to see Buttersville and the long stretch of well-groomed grass between the Academy and the village that fed it. That ground was currently occupied by a series of camps containing a sizable group of Crolian militia, elven fighters, and groups of mercenaries. They didn't do much for the decorum, to say the least.

Turning from her window, Alicia conjured a little ball of light over her head, the office fairly gloomy without it. She liked to change her color from day to day, and this time her magical light came out as a very pretty mix of green and blue... Cyan she thought it was called. She'd always been terrible with colors. Maybe that was why she persisted in that particular ritual rather than just making a plain white light like most everyone else did? Regardless, the magic teacher busied herself reading her mail if she had any and glancing over the reports for the upcoming expedition if she didn't, trying to remember the name and nature of the place that they would be investigating. Of course, now that she was going to see him within a few minutes, she'd have to remember the name of her troubled student soon too...

Re: NorthernCross Test Thread

The low murmuring of the students filing out of the door was silenced by the door closing behind them. It wouldn't be long before she saw a select few who she'd singled out for disciplinary action. The one responsible for a series of gusts of wind, one Fredrick Grimes, wouldn't meet her gaze on the way out for fear of being any additional repercussions. She'd already had a good idea of which hunters to assign to him to maximize the effect upon him without too much danger to the creature or the student.

She paused a moment to consider her plans for the afternoon and narrowed down her options relatively quickly. The expedition had already planned down with considerable zeal, not withstanding the possibility of it disintegrating on contact with reality. And at the end of the day, the advanced students were only permitted to continue their experiments on Academy grounds was because they'd already proven themselves trustworthy to a certain extent. It was far too late for her to schedule office hours so she quickly passed that by.

That left the 'problem student' to deal with as she proceeded to head for her office and a passing page was quickly sent off to find the wayward pupil. The student in question, William Moatoob, wasn't unknown to her. His problem wasn't a lack of focus as it was being focused to the point of tunnel vision. The most frustrating of his habits was his inability to follow any logical progression in his studies leading to one of the most bizarre set of almost random knowledge anyone had ever seen. She'd previously had to consult with him on this habit previously but that had been concerning his health and this was the first time this habit had affected his academic record itself.

At the thought of returning to overseeing her minions, she let loose a round of megalomaniac laughter that caused the students around her to give her a wide birth. The fearful rumors that followed her mentor were quickly being passed onto her and she could hear whispering following in her wake.

Arriving at her office, she conjured her cyan light and began sorting through her mail. Aside from the reports on various experiments, a lot of the bureaucratic paperwork that had once annoyed Professor Greyback now fell into her lap. Most of it merely needed her signature to approve various expenditures as most of her staff preemptively filled out most of the budget paperwork but it was worthwhile to look over it to see if they were trying to sneak something through. She'd noticed a few inconsistencies in her budget lately but she hadn't yet found where the source of it was.

The expedition remained at the back of her mind, even if hidden in her paperwork. There was some indication of a small group of Aliens that had been separated from their more intelligent commanders and were loitering near a town located near the border of Crolia and the former Badarian Empire called Dorlian. This represented an opportunity to capture and study relatively fresh creatures rather then the ones that remained in captivity. This was important because Aliens in the wild may mutate at a faster rate then the ones in captivity and the longer they were in captivity the less useful information they could yield concerning their wild cousins. It wouldn't be the first time that a weapon that had proved incredibly effective on a captive creature proved not as effective on a wild one.

A knock on the door interrupted her thoughts and once she gave permission, William walked in still garbed in his students robes. He was a head shorter than her with a slim form topped by slightly grown out brown hair and a chocolate eyes hidden by a pair of glasses.

“You wished to speak with me, Professor?” William asked after being asked to enter.

Re: NorthernCross Test Thread

William Moatoob.... A very strange one. The Academy had seen his ilk before of course, those with strange learning disabilities. It was particularly common among those with internalized abilities, though it could be found among those learning the magic arts for the first time as well. She considered him for a while as she read over her mail, mostly things not needing to be actually read, or at least they normally wouldn't have if there wasn't a hole somewhere that seemed to be leaking her budget. She'd never been one to sign anything without reading it, but as she waited for William she looked over the budget reports, trying to find the irregularity even though she had looked a few times before and hadn't found it yet.

She was interrupted before she was able to finish, of course, but that didn't truly bother her too much. She'd have plenty of time to finish that. As she heard the knock on her door, she stacked all of the reports, along with all of the other things requiring her signature, into a pile for her later perusing as she said; "Come in!" Standing up as the student she'd called for opened the door, she walked around her desk and sat on it, crossing her legs and leaning back on her arms, "Come in and sit down, mister Moatoob." She gestured towards a chair that was then sitting against the wall with one of her legs and waited for him to pull it to the edge of her desk and be seated.

Once he was, she began to explain the reason for her call; "I have been hearing some troubling reports about you, mister Moatoob! My colleagues tell me that you've been having trouble in your studies. I remember our last discussion about your problem, and you assured me that you wouldn't allow it to disrupt your studies! You've been doing very well in my own coursework, but I expect better from you in your other classes. I know you're capable of doing the work! Are you having some other sort of problem that you haven't told me about?" After finishing, Alicia sat back waiting for him to answer, her position on the edge of her desk causing her arms to push her breasts together slightly, giving him a view of a great deal of cleavage.
