I once convinced the library that I had returned a book I had lost (To be fair, I thought I had returned it.) I then found it months later, and surreptitiously slipped it onto the returns desk. Pandemonium broke loose as the librarians struggled to figure out where the hell this book came from.

That exact same thing happened to me once. I even got the library to admit that the whole thing was their fault and reduce my fine. Turns out, the stuff was underneath everything in my closet and I just put it in the return box while nobody was paying attention.
