=== Bio ===
Name: Gwen (Gear) Wrenchhand
Age: 18
Avvy name: Kathy
Level 0 Trait: Engineering!
Description:

Bright blue streaked hair and large round glasses are classics of the young mousegirl's look, though her eyesight is actually fairly good, the glasses are non-prescription magnifying lenses for doing fine tuning of delicate devices, often leaving her looking over the top of them while walking or doing other activities.

Typically wears whatever suits her job, or a simple shirt and pants, or blouse and skirt, rarely putting a great deal of effort into "girly things", despite rarely letting herself head out without a bit of makeup unless she's utterly involved in her latest tinkering project.

Attitude:
Slightly airheaded and naive, she tends to think things through too much and secondguess herself in social situations or when dealing with things she is unfamiliar with, attempting to talk herself into the right answer. This flaw is amplified when she is distracted, especially if she doesn't realize something new has come up that requires her more immediate attention.

In this cold Monday morning, the parking slot of Chamber corps. is nearly abandoned. As Gwen enters into the building she is directed straight to the chamber and instructed in the use of the pod after a few questions about how she is feeling and such. Almost immediately a pop-up menu appears in front of her.

Re: That which is not living does not bleed(Gwen/Kathy)

Gear mumbled in the morning chill, in little more than one of her skimpier outfits, she barely remembered to grab a large scarf that she wrapped around her neck a dozen times, leaving her nipples poking out hard against the chilly wind while she hastily rushed into the building, a small metallic puzzle dangling from her hand as she fumed over it, the cold having given her fingers a shiver and kept her from continuing it, that being the only reason she now realized that she'd accidentally grabbed summer clothes for this chilly day.

"At least the building is warmer." she mused quietly after slipping inside, nodding to a few security guards absentmindedly while warming her hands and on her way to her destination.

Slipping into the so-called "egg" pod, she instantly forgot about her puzzle once more though, as this was a far more enticing thing to play with.

After fiddling around with the controls for a bit more, she began to teeter with the difficulty scale, wondering if it would be possible to adjust this later, as it seemed largely like a modern game. She was a decent player against her friends, but she began to worry about scaling the difficulty too high, tipping the slider back and forth from "easy" to "insanity" several times while waiting for any help files to run, finally slipping it back to "normal" and finally submitting her beginning data, laying back in the device and wondering what would happen next.

Re: That which is not living does not bleed(Gwen/Kathy)

As Gwen pokes the question mark, another pop-up opens.

The difficulty adjusts how difficult it is to defeat enemies in direct combat. Other parts of the game are not affected, though some quests might have to be completed using different methods on higher difficulties. It can be changed at save points(which usually happen while you rest) or between sessions.

After Gwen finishes, the pod goes completely dark and it feels as if she is floating. Slowly the sensations return. There is a flickering electric light above her. The floor and the roof are made of stones fit together without cement. In front of her is a large pool full of what's best described as dirty water: it has plenty of salts, amino acids and such, but it has been very carefully cleansed of all life. Around her are various instruments from spectroscopes to thermometers, some standing on their own, others lying on a table. Behind her is the man she is working for: Dr Geordi Harrison, also called "Mad Doctor" by some from his controversial theories about the origin of life. The two of them are currently calibrating the instruments for testing his latest theory.

"Oh." Gear replies simply, leaving the setting on normal, knowing she could adjust it later on. For now though, diving into this weird thing seemed best.

Floating... uncertainty... darkness... then light. The dirty water caught her attention and she attempted to fix her glasses to take a closer look at it, kneeling down and giving a couple tentative sniffs, her nose wrinkled against whatever smell it may have preemptively, as she was unsure just what kind of reactions the "egg" would have on her, but already her flighty attention span showing off, as she was left with her ass bent over towards the so-called "mad doctor" without a second thought, or even realizing that he was there behind her yet, the subtle prompts appearing that hinted at what was going on eluding her as her tail flicked back and forth a few times anticipating the new reactions from this unusual place.

The doctor clears his throat loudly. "Well, now that you've familiarized yourself with the laboratory, I want you to mark all the measurements into the spreadsheet before we start with the radiation. I'll calibrate the radiator." With that, the professor leaves to the upper level and starts to fiddle with a computer connected to the huge device above the pool.

Re: That which is not living does not bleed(Gwen/Kathy)

"Hm?... Oh right right..." Gear began to whisper uncertainly, looking around again, reaching towards the water with the nearest thing she could get her hands on and poking at it's surface a couple times. Only after a couple tentative prods did she slowly back away, starting to read the information the 'game' was giving her so she could catch up on things.

As she began to fiddle with the information, she began to ponder just how interactive the simulation was as well, starting to jot down a few notes as if everything inside was real, and she was actually assisting the doctor, while occasionally making an idle doodle or two when the numbers began to get boring.

"Do we have any protection from the radiation?" she found herself asking quickly, before giving a final scrawling, her numbers all hastily written, but she was always remarkably good at this kind of thing. "And remind me again what our experiment is?"

It takes about five minutes to write all the numbers. "Oh, the radiation is perfectly safe as long as we're not down there. And the test is to see if life can be born with no external factors save magical radiation. After all, there's no concrete proof of anything else. Now come up here and we'll start."

"Affirmative doctor." Gear replies as she begins to hastily follow him, delaying only briefly as she spots various things along their trip to the safety of the observation room. After several brief pauses, she finally stalks up behind the doctor and shares her numbers while waiting to see what would happen next, this upcoming part not in the game's basic information. As she leaned forward on her toes, glasses tipping downward ever so slightly so she could stare at it in both magnified and natural form.

Re: That which is not living does not bleed(Gwen/Kathy)

A strange hum fills the air, as the machine starts spinning dozens of charged crystals. Then the crystals start to glow softly and the water responds in kind. Several minutes of "nothing" follow, after which the crystals spin down. "Go record the changes, Miss Gwen." The professor then does something with the computer again and starts focusing in a crystal that is apparently connected with the others. There are several changes in the measures, indicating some amino acids reacting with each other and ions, but nothing indicating life, yet.

Re: That which is not living does not bleed(Gwen/Kathy)

Gear gives the tiniest huff when nothing seems to happen, and she nods, rushing about and taking a few more quick notes, but her attention repeatedly beginning to drift to various dials and crystals and other devices.

After a short while, she started to wonder if she could speed up the process somehow, perhaps skip parts of the buildup and get results faster, starting to tinker with the devices in slight ways herself, turning and manipulating a crystal or a gear here or there.

Most of the instruments seem to be working as well as they can be, though she is able to recalibrate and optimize a few. It occurs to her that they could be hooked to a computer, which could take the readings. And maybe few robotic arms to automatize the entire process. There aren't parts for that here, though.

Re: That which is not living does not bleed(Gwen/Kathy)

Gwen quickly gives up dealing with the little adjustments and returns to scrawling down a few numbers boredly, without more supplies, it was a futile gesture to try to think about such fixes, and merely a matter of getting through another set of numbers, though she did find herself starting to wonder what pieces she could possibly dismantle in order to make the device work better on it's own.

After a while, the doctor comes back down. "Tinkering again, are you? Well, what did the meters show?"

"No readings, same as before." Gwen replied quickly, idly glancing at a few guages to confirm what she'd said. The experiments seemed to be moving along at a snail's pace, and she began to wonder if this was actually going anywhere with this style of experimentation. For now though, all she could do was keep assisting the doctor, and wait to see what would come of it.

The doctor frowns. "Do you mean to say that there's no change? Hrm. Well, we'll try again in the evening, when the crystals have charged again. In the mean time, I'd like you to go drop by at Dr Wengsworth laboratory and see what she's doing - in general terms, of course"

"Oh! y..yes Doctor, sorry... no change." she corrected herself, glancing at the various readouts once more.

"Of course, I'll head down there now and see if she has any information for us." Gwen said quickly, setting aside the various charts and graphs she'd doodled up with the information, hastily sketched, but still useful, before she started to leave the observation area, mentally verifying where she was headed as she left, curious if she would actually know the way, or if the 'egg' would simply not allow her to deviate from the chosen path, as she attempted more than once to poke her nose into other directions, doing a bit of exploring as she tried to get used to this strange place.

Re: That which is not living does not bleed(Gwen/Kathy)

The castle is quite extensive, and the EGG seems to allow her complete freedom at least within it, though it would take a good while to explore all of it. The laboratory of doctor Wengsworth is in the surrounding village, however, and Gwen eventually heads down there. The first thing she notices about it is that it seems to be empty, and the front door is locked.

Re: That which is not living does not bleed(Gwen/Kathy)

Gwen's trip through the castle was filled with subtle preoccupations, poking around at random drawers and moving bits of furniture ever so slightly out of sheer amusement of the world she found herself in, before she finally headed out. She again took her time through the village, pausing to look around at the environment and the people around, though not letting herself be delayed with her passive curiousity too much before she would head towards her objective.

"Great." her immediate response was, as she attempted knocking and ringing the doorbell, discontent at the place appearing to be empty. "This was a wasted trip." she mumbled a bit under her breath. "I wonder what the point of this whole thing is... I am still inside that... egg thing... but this seems to be a lot of idle work for..." she hummed off to herself, not really sure what her goal here actually was now that she thought about it.

She lingered only for a little bit longer, giving anyone who may have been inside a chance to come to the door, but wouldn't tarry too long if no one was coming, instead starting back towards the lab with a less than certain pace, taking a bit more time to take in the village on the way back.

Just as Gwen is about to leave, she hears an explosion from somewhere close, and looking around she can see flames raising high from somewhere behind the laboratory. There are loud shouts and people seem to be running to help - or perhaps to watch.

Re: That which is not living does not bleed(Gwen/Kathy)

Gwen's ears flop over and her tail drags low. This wasn't quite what she'd expected, going from nothing exciting in what could possibly have been the most boring day of her life, to suddenly having explosions and screaming people running around wildly.

Taking a deep breath and bracing herself, she expected things to start to get out of hand very soon, taking the least direct route she could to try to figure out what was going on. Instead of charging headlong into a mobbing crowd, she began by moving towards the street and trying to judge how far away the 'disturbance' was taking place at. Hoping, based on sounds, that it was just at the end of the block, she would attempt to find a way to climb on top of the building, a fire escape making a quick way up, or if it was a smaller, one story building, a nearby dumpster, or a couple tall trash cans would easily allow her to scurry atop the building so she could get a bird's eye view of what was going on, without being caught up in the center of the fuss.
