Re: The Dividing Line

Okay, this should work, I guess:

CHARACTER

Name: James Umbral ("Viper")
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Description: Lean, and athletic, Umbral stands at a full two meters tall. His unkempt dark brown hair and piercing pale green eyes are often referred to as his most striking features, especially his eyes. He's also known for his unique armored flight suit. Although rarely seen, it is known that he has a single tattoo on his back, a mythical Terran creature known as a dragon.

Background: James Umbral has, for as far back as he's ever told anyone, been a mercenary. However, he's only ever accepted jobs that he feels are "worthy". What little is known about him indicates that when he's not pulling some kind of a job, he's busy designing new equipment or vehicles. Several of his equipment designs, and two of his vehicle designs, have actually been built, apparently by Umbral himself. For some reason, he always stops talking when his tattoo is mentioned.

Crew Members: None

SHIP

Name: Dragon's Fang

Description: A black, if slightly odd-shaped, Gunship-styled vessel, with crimson highlights. Bay doors are apparent on the top of the aft section.

Weaponry and shields: Twin-mounted Rapid-Fire Cannons in the front, 2 Homing Missile Launchers (1 Launcher Unit per side). Unique cannon built into underside, and unique shields.

Unique Technology: The shielding and cannon are both wholly designed and built by Umbral himself. The shields absorb at least a part of any energy attack, and redirects it back into the shields, reinforcing them. Should the shields be at full power when an attack is absorbed, then the energy is directed into capacitor units adjacent to the cannon system. Kinetic attacks are not affected by this feature. Should enough energy be stored in the capacitors, then the stored energy can be transfered into the cannon, and used to launch a pure-energy projectile.

Also, the aft bay on the Fang holds an experimental, atmosphere-only craft named 'Switchblade'. Switchblade is a close-support aerial attack vehicle, with an alternate high-speed pursuit mode. Switchblade is armed with two light pulse lasers, two air-to-air missiles, and four air-to-ground missiles. Many of its command codes are stored in the helmet "Viper", which is worn by Umbral and is the source of his callsign.

Re: The Dividing Line

CHARACTER

Name: Draven Naros
Gender: Male
Race: Ingrali
Age: Unknown
Height: 6'10"
Eyes: Orange
Hair: Blackish

Description: A typical Ingrali, Draven and his people are shrouded in mystery. No one knows the ages of the Ingrali, nor do they bother to keep time measurements like most other races. Very quick for his size, he is also a shape shifter of sorts, and his true form resembles almost a mist-like form. Draven generally prefers to blend in with other culture's, shifting himself to look like one of their own so as to study them. This is a large reason that no one has ever SEEN an Ingrali and known about it. The only race that seems to have heard anything about them are the Telarin, and what little they know of them are simply rumors and folklore. Draven is as secretive as the rest of his race, however he is willing to help those in need, so long as it doesn't expose his true nature.

Background: Draven is part of the high command of the Ingrali, and as such, is the fore runner in keeping tabs on all other races. Draven works alone on all of his missions, and is quite adept at both piloting ships, and in combat.

Draven intercepted a message regarding the Nnyarthall, whom the Ingrali had believed to have been wiped out. Taking a personal interest in the matter, Draven has answered the call, and shed his disguise, showing his true
form finally.

Crew members: None, Draven works alone on his ship.

SHIP

Name: The Deadly Mist.

Length: 36.5 Meters

Description: Similar to an Al'kesh from Stargate, with several differences, mainly to it's weapons, and added shields of good strength.

Weaponry: Two direct Plasma energy beam emitters, enough Plasma bombs to start a small war and damage unshielded enemy ships or even destroy large chunks of surface on a planet.

Unique Technology: Shielding of good strength, Cloaking technology and a special proto-type device called the shield eaters. The ship also comes standard with 4 tractor beam emitters, usually designed for towing large scale barge like carriers filled with materials.

Shield Eaters: These devices are proto-types and as such, there are a very limited number of uses for them. When faced with a ship with better shielding than it's own, The Deadly Mist may use these nefarious devices to
try and even the score. Launching four of the devices, they will impact an enemy's shields and begin to eat a hole in them. Attacking the devices cause them to explode and open a gaping hole in the shields of the enemy vessel. The Deadly Mist carries a total of eight of these devices, allowing for two uses if they are not retrieved after use. As a proto-type, these devices have not been properly tested, and as such it is uncertain if they will function properly.

Propulsion is achived in two forms. First are the sublight engines, which propel the ship at one quarter light speed for maneuvering and orbital paths. Second is the hyper-drive, which allows for faster than light travel. The drive is extremely advanced, and although the Ingrali keep it very secretive of just how fast the drive can propel a ship, it is rumored amongst the few that have heard of them that it is capable of leaving the galaxy in under a day.

At sublight speeds, because of her size, The Deadly Mist is highly maneuverable.

Re: The Dividing Line

Name: Cyrus Plutarch
Gender: Male
Race: Tiberion

Description: Human in appearance. Black hair, mid-back length. About 6 feet tall. Laser implant in the outer corner of the right eye. Can be used to scan items and send an information display stright to the retina. Standard Blaster also built in.

Background: A Legion Commander in the mighty Tiberion Empire. He went to sleep one night and never woke up. 100 years later, he finally awoke in a stasis tube in an unknown location. Breaking out, he found that any and all evidence of his race's very existance had been eradicated. No living being in this era had even heard of them. He began working as a mercenary, attempting to discover what had happened to his people during his century long sleep. While rare, he has managed to accumulate a number of Tiberion relics and artefacts, including several functioning weapons and above all, his ship. As no-one knows of the existance of such a race, many believe the items to be junk, and hand them over without question. He continues on, in the hope that he will someday find an answer.

SHIP

Name: The Scimitar

(Darth Maul's Sith Infiltrator from The Phantom Menace)

Description: Top and Front view:

In flight:

Deckplan:

A Tiberion ship of unknown design and creation. Cyrus found it in an abondoned Hangar built into an asteroid. Automated defences killed all others who tried to get on board.

Armament: Solar Ionisation Cannons (x6)

Unique Technology: Tiberion Cloaking System - Allows the ship to sneak past all but the most sensitive of scanners.

Re: The Dividing Line

Awesome. I'd been waiting for this. =)

Well, looks like Kars is up again. I'm ever so glad I had this saved, since it's really long. First up is info on Kars race, the scavenging wanderers, the Kopak.

(Edit - Damn, this is an old version. I lost my polishing up edit and some extra background I added. Ah well, I'll see if I can add some of it again.

The Kopak.

Physically 3 to 4 foot tall, of an average build for their size. Quick to learn new things, and with varied personalitys, their psychology isn't to different to a Human frame of mind. Hairless, with skin tones ranging from a grey tan to brown. Their shallow head curves back round, possibly very loosely similar to a "bean" shape. Small dark eyes, and shapeless ears and nose hidden underneath their jaw.

Little is known about the Kopak or their origins. Seldom paid much attention as they wander through space in their small clusters of ships. Sometime long ago their culture was destroyed or somehow broke apart. Now only small number remain, seemingly not too bothered by the state of their race. If asked about their past, the normal answer is that they don't know, or "forgot".

They migrate through the stars, trading and scavenging, sometimes taking odd jobs or mercenary work if it suits. They tend to be fairly adept as engineers and pilots, purely because of their typical lifestyle. Clusters of Kopak are as likely split into two as they are to join others. They have gained the nickname of "Ranchers" due to the large space dwelling whale like creatures, called Emancipets, that they very frequently keep and farm as they travel. It's unknown how they lure and keep the Emancipets with their fleets. They use these as a source of food and income, though it's also not uncommon for Kopak to actually try to steal Emancipets from another Kopak fleet.

Their technology is generally whatever they can find, although they do actually build their own ships from scratch, with some technologies and components apparently unique. Hand crafted Kopak ships are the most valuable thing to a cluster, and perhaps the most likely thing to unify some of them, since none of them want to leave the ship they helped build to another.

Kars
The Kopak Space Devil

Name: Kars Rebek Tiivon Aetol Cete Guhnar Sard
Gender: Male
Race: Kopak
Age: 29
Height: 3'5
Eyes: Black
Description: Of average height for his race, with dark greyish brown skin. With their small blacked out eyes and alien faces it can be hard to tell where a Kopak is looking or what their expression is meant to mean. Kars spends most of his time with an unnerving grin on his face, numerous sharp pointed front teeth showing. Though generally no one sees it due to the space suit he wears near constantly. His suit is a common Kopak design, white with a wide blacked out visor over the front and top of the helmet. A jetpac for zero-g manuveres, with a few hours oxygen supply or the option of filters for use in atmosphere. Tough but non bulky, designed to not be restrictive on board or planetside. Kars personal suit is modified with extra helmet sensors, a cardio regulator, a souped up jetpac, micro flamer, and an arm mounted grapple tether.

His other personal equipment includes two pistols always holstered securely at his thighs, a stolen Terra Prime rail-long-rifle with advanced electric scope, some grenades (His collection including, high explosive, incendiary, fragmentation, smoke, oxygen sapping, and disorientation), and his pride and joy Kopak design "Personal Plasma Cannon". This hugely oversized plasma cannon is intended for use in vacuum either while magnetically tethered to a ship or with a jetpac. Though it can also deploy a tripod from beneath it for clumsy surface use, or be mounted upon certain ship weapon mounts.

Background: Kars has switched affiliation with various Kopak clusters an excessive number of times. Loose even for a Kopak. His name, in normal Kopak fashion, is a collection of the names of all the different clusters he has travelled with. Like a clan name. Only he has too many. At his age it would be a sign of being generally untrustworthy. Mistrust well placed. After spending just a year and a half with his last cluster, the Sard, he decided he was fed up again and through an elaborately thought out plan, which went to hell, he stole the Sard's prized star fighter the "Hell Strafer" and made for the depths of space.

An able mechanic, Kars had been spending a great deal of attention on the Strafer before hand, making a great deal of revolutionary enhancements to it. He moved from cluster to cluster following the craft, working on it at every stage. The Sards thought they had acquired an excellent new crew member, right up to the point where he blew out their hanger. His other skills include the use of firearms, explosives, piloting, dogfighting, and creativity and unpredictability. His mood ranges from deadly lazy, to dangerous enthusiasm. He has built a mixed reputation among certain spacers and freelancers, dubbed by some a "space devil" that can't be killed, or just "that short bastard" by others.

Kars is a prime example of why the Kopak race is slowly fading away. While most still keep to themselves and try to lead a respectable life among the stars. Kars couldn't care less about his past or future, and would rather burn a path for himself as the solar winds take him, living off the success of the more ambitious races.

Crew members (if any): Kars currently travels alone. There is one tight passenger/co-pilot slot available in his ship, space enough for one other Kopak or creature roughly the size of a Human child. Though this slot has no life support (Like the main cockpit, suit needed), and is often filled with guns, tools and miscellaneous loot.

SHIP

Name: The Hell Strafer
Length: 6/10 meters

Description: Probably the smallest (effective) multi purpose, long range fighter craft in existence. The Hell Strafer is small even for a fighter craft. Hand made, from scratch, by the finest Kopak hands as it was stolen from one cluster to another, each improving it in their own way before it finally came into the undeserving hands of Kars. It is a true masterpiece of unintended Kopak collaboration. With the best parts of borrowed technology from a multitude of sources.

The Hell Strafer has two main parts, the front which carries the cockpit and all combat capability's. And a detachable rear section, housing storage, ammunition, fuel, life support replenishment for the pilots suit, an engine extension, and an amazingly compact hyper drive core. With the rear section attached it can make long distance journeys not normally possible for a fighter, and achieve a slightly greater top speed, at the cost of a very significant amount of mobility, acceleration, and posing a larger target. The cockpit and co-pilot slots follow the space saving design ethic. In that there is no seat or typical control panel as such, more just a space for limbs to slip into and a snug morphable area to accommodate the pilot. The heads up display and other information is transmitted straight into the pilots helmet. Also, there is no built in life support. This is handled entirely by the pilots suit, which is fed from ship reserves whenever the rear section is attached.

The Strafers typical combat configuration is with the tail end detached, where upon it achieves some of the best manoeuvrability of any fighter craft seen. It is capable of flying sideways, up or down, at almost top speed. Keeping its four already turreted guns locked onto targets with ease. Even capable of flying backwards to a degree, or pivoting on the spot to face pursuers without losing the ability to evade. Making it an excellent dogfighter and very difficult to train weapons on. It is capable of effective planetary flight, at a slight loss of agility and an increased fuel consumption.

It's shielding is of an average standard, outclassed by some fighters, but more than enough in the hands of a pilot capable of making the most of it's mobility. It's shields are of a unique design though, running along the body of the craft rather than forming a field around it. This causes a little more strain on the shield generator leading it to fail a little sooner than it would otherwise, but makes the Hell Strafer an even smaller target still. And also has the misleading property of causing typical and automatic scan methods to show the craft as having no shields or them powered down.

The top of the craft has a magnetic foot used for landing and latching onto larger vessels. It can launch a grappling tether to grab onto ships hulls and pull itself in quickly. Allowing it to hitch hike on faster craft with bigger hyperdrive cores. The only disadvantage of this, being that the Strafer must land upside down should it touch down on a planet. Easy for its drive system, but less convenient for the pilot.

Weaponry: The Hell Strafer's weaponry consists of four turreted weapon mounts which extend a short way of the main body on retractable arms. Each can be assigned separate tracking, though this requires the pilot to distract himself for a crucial second while inputting the commands. A magazine fed rocket pod sits atop of the craft, capable of firing up to six unguided or drunken rockets at a time, with a total magazine capacity of 24. And a fixed weapon mount on the underside, which Kars tends to mount his Personal Plasma Cannon on. The four arm mounts currently house four identical chainguns, feeding from a unique ammo system that can feed the guns from two different reserves. One (currently) holding high explosive rounds for maximum shield depletion and extreme damage to soft targets. And one (currently) holding high velocity pyroforic depleted uranium rounds, for maximum penetration of hardened ship hulls. Ammunition can be eaten up rapidly if all guns are fired simultaneously. The Tail part stores enough spare rounds to restock the reserves twice, which it does automatically upon re-docking, if it is at all possible to do so. The Kopak Plasma Cannon is a powerful close to mid range weapon, capable of punching through smaller crafts shields and causing damage to even the most hardened armour. But, only carries a very limited amount of ammunition before it must be manually reloaded, via exiting the ship and doing so by hand.

Unique Technology: Everyone else's tech, put together with Kopak ingenuity, along with a tiny bit of their own. Special drive systems. Special shielding systems. The Strafers final and most advanced trick, is a twin set of devices of unknown origin, which allows it to manipulate it's appearance to sensors. Kars doesn't know the correct name, so dubbed it the "Deception Device" or DD. Depending on the effect desired, other ship systems and functions may need to be disabled or powered down, or risk breaking the deception. The magnitude of the effect will also determine power drain. A few possible uses include jamming, by making it's readings a mess of conflicting signals making it impossible to accurately pinpoint or scan. Masking itself as a collection of minerals, so to appear to be an asteroid without closer inspection. Seem to be venting a large amount of energy which doesn't exist. Or simply be invisible to passive sensor sweeps. Each part of the Strafer has it's own DD, enabling them to operate seperately when detached. A signature trick of Kars is to fake taking a hit and using the DD to imitate an explosion, or damage he hasn't sustained, followed by a temporary system shutdown. Opposing pilots have had to endure what seems like an endlessly self resurrecting foe that refuses to stay dead. In reality, they never landed a hit.

Re: The Dividing Line

CHARACTER

Name: Senkek Malgoden
Gender: Male
Race: Human

Description: Lanky and somewhat pale, Senkek has the look of someone who spends more time in deep space than planet bound. His typical attire consists of his personal space suit which is designed to protect it's user on long EVA's from debris and radiation but he will were more traditional clothing when he stays on the ground for a long period of time.

Background: Senkek grew up as one of the space rats that hide in the dark corners of space stations. Like the rest of the orphans, he had to survive without the aid of parents which has resulted in him having a sort of pack-rat mentality where he takes anything he can get for free even if he can't immediately find a use for it. This has often led to interesting times later in his life as Senkek developed a habit of tinkering with whatever items he currently had resulting in him using an array of devices that tend to function on or slight above par with standard equipment while at the same time looking like it will explode at any second. Eventually this led him to constructing his own ship out of wrecks and discarded piles of old parts. As it is, this simply allowed him to carry his salvaging habit throughout space with him only selling parts to get food.

Crew members (if any): None

SHIP

Name: Firebird

Description: The Firebird looks like a literal flying scrap heap which is not far from the truth. Welded together from the abandoned hulks of scrapped or wrecked ships, the Firebird is the Frankenstein of ships. The ship is vaguely reminiscent of a typical freighter although this is more due to the number of cargo bays attached behind the remains of an old cruiser's bridge. The hull is a mess work of old armor plating and random scaffolding which, despite their appearance, are actually to catch space junk like a small net than hold the ship together.

Weaponry and shields: The Firebird is equipped with two moon-raker lasers originally designed to cut apart unshielded asteroids with a sweeping beam for mining purposes. However, the use of a fusion generator designed for a ship with much greater power requirements has allowed Senkek to route much more energy than normal through the lasers making the weapons capable of decent damage even against shielded vessels. The same power overcharge applies to the shields of the Firebird allowing it to take much more damage than a civilian ship of its size should.

The Firebird also has two grappling hooks which it can use to anchor itself to wrecks and asteroids.

Unique Technology:
Constructed from junk - While not so much a unique technology, the way that the Firebird was built has resulted in it seeming to be an actual junk heap as long as it keeps its power use low and doesn't engage engines.

Scaffold Net - The network of scaffolding and catwalk scraps covering the surface of the Firebird allows the ship to easily catch small pieces of wreckage and other space junk in large quantities across its hull. While the ship normally avoids combat, this extra layer of debris functions as a think layer of disposable armor protecting the ship from most attacks without requiring the use of its actual plating.

Made from scratch - Due to how he built the Firebird with his own hands and often has a great deal of scrap parts in his cargo bays, Senkek can repair any damage to his ship without the need to visit a spaceport for even basic dry dock facilities.

Re: The Dividing Line

I don't know who you are, but I like the way you think.

CHARACTER

Name: Gamma Alpha 21-34 "Thall"
Gender: Male
Race: Telarin Phi Strain
Age: 36
Height: 6'8"
Eyes: silver orbs
Hair: none
Description:
Thall's body looks more masculine than the normal Telarin - he has wider shoulders, more muscles in arms and legs and a slightly deeper voice. For a Telarin Thall is fairly adventurous and a cunning pilot.
Thall's Grav Suit consists mostly out of a featureless, silvery synthetic weave fashioned into a bodysuit. A thicker material with a hexagon pattern forms a tabard that leaves free the sides and narrows at the hips to end at knee's length in a pair of flaps. Two more pieces of that fabric cover the upper and lower legs. The boots, gauntlets and helmet of the Grav Suit are metallic and look robotic. The helmet is absolutely smooth and featureless and sweeps up into a short crest at the back of the head.

Background:
Thall is a Telarin... yet he is not.
Thall as well as the entire Phi strain are the outcome of genetic and cerebral engineering. Their purpose is to act as a link between the Multitudes and other civilizations. To achieve that Thall has been outfitted with a name and the emotions that the Telarin normally lack. Furthermore Thall has a distinctive gender to prevent confusion and the ability to understand and adapt concepts like humor. Humans in particular confuse Thall as their social structure is so complex. He often finds himself in awkward situations when dealing with them.

Crew members (if any):
Mara is another Phi Telarin. She has been assigned to assist Thall on this mission. Also to keep an eye on him for the Multitudes. They think he has spent a little too much time outside their society.
Her Grav Suit is similar to Thall's, but slightly more feminine - the waist is a bit slender, and the chestpiece curves slightly outward to make room for her breasts. Her helmet features a narrow black visor and doesn't sport a crest.

SHIP

Name: Zeta 1097
Length: ~30 m

Description:
The Telarin Zeta's body has the form of a five-sided pyramid turned upside down. Four of the walls hold retractable legs while the fifth holds the cockpit window. The tip of the pyramid can be opened to reveal the Zeta's primary weapon.

Weaponry:
The two walls on the left and right of the cockpit sport typical hemispheric turrets holding Rapid Fire Laser Cannons. They are usually used on the same target. The tip of the Zeta conceal a P.O.L.L. of substantial size. The laser charges for about 20 minutes before it can be fired.
For it's size the Zeta has shields a bit stronger than normal.

Unique Technology:
None.

Scavengers can be rather fun to play in futuristic games, especially when they are giving someone a lift and that person is scared to go on the ship.

Re: The Dividing Line

CHARACTER

Name: Sanya Volkov
Gender: Female
Race: Human

Description: At 5'6", Sanya is definitly not tall (at least in terms of the setting). Her build is much more leaning towards that of an acrobat or a runner, not a 'roided-out action hero. She has long, straight, ebony hair with a few green streaks, generally kept in a pony-tail. Sanya also has bright green eyes, one of them litterally glowing at times.
Her left eye had been replaced with a prosthetic one, allowing various spectrums to be seen, as well as ranging. Her spine and right arm were also replaced, the spine now allowed her to directly connect to computer interfaces (think Ghost in the Shell and their cord thingies), and her arm now stronger, and steadier, as well as containing a hidden knife (katar-like).
She is also a techie/scientist, albeit a well-trained fighting one.

Background: Sanya came from a gritty colony, torn apart with gang warfare. She had to learn how to use her mind to stay out of trouble, but also her body to keep herself alive. She tinkered away, learning skills from her parents and those few that she could trust. As time went by, her connections to the colony were severed so she had little choice in what to do. Either stay and die as they had, or leave.

SHIP

Name: Nerkat

Description: About 35 meters long, although much of it is taken up with systems for the ship. The ship uses two matter/anti-matter generators, along with large capacitors due to the high energy demands of the systems on the ship. Thus, the ship is not designed for extended battles. In fact, though the ship is powerful, the main skill component in piloting is not actually manuevering but alloting power to different systems. One can basically choose to run either shields, propulsion (in the form of moving the shield's pocket), or the weapon at decent levels, but the other two will take a drastic hit in their performances.

Weaponry and shields:
The ship's main weapon is a forward-facing cannon that fires sub-space encased particles. It's extremely draining on power systems, though it packs a huge punch, and has an easier time punching through most shielding due to the sub-space. This doesn't fire particularly very fast, and takes quite a bit of time to charge, even at combat-levels.
Secondary weapons includes a missile launcher, on the ventral side, that holds many soda-can sized mini-missiles. The missiles are fast, and can turn fairly quickly, and they pack a decent punch for their size, but it's not particularly effective against much other than very small craft. The only other weapon on the ship is a single turret on the dorsal side, that uses a guass gun. Even weaker than the missile launcher, it's primary use is for point-defense. Both of these are normally covered with an armored plate, until it's deployed, and they also don't require much power from the generators.

The primary shielding of the Nerkat isn't the usual hard shielding. Instead, it creates a sort of bubble around the ship, that is somewhat like creating a pocket of space. It doesn't block incoming attacks, but, instead, it curves solid projectiles and even beams around. Of course, it's not perfect though. This pocket of space is also the primary propulsion that moves the ship around, rather than using traditional thrusters or drives.
There is a secondary shielding that hugs the exterior of the ship, strong enough for a couple moderate hits, but won't take much, although it is constantly regenerating.

Unique Technology:
The primary shielding, due to it's properties, allows the ship within to practically be invisible to most sensors. It creates the effect of space around itself, so it's essentially invisible. Though, to bring up the shields to this level also requires the Nerkat to basically blind itself as well. To counteract this, the Nerkat is equipped with a Transmetaphasic Quantum Particle/wave Remote Detection Device. This basically allows the ship to track masses that affect the quantum particles in space. However, this only allows for detection of unidentified masses and high energy levels at the passive scan level, and has a fairly limited range. The active scan, while allowing a much better picture, will give away the presence of the ship. This is the only sensor that will work with the full on stealth-properties of the shields.
(This is basically turning shields to the highest setting. The ship can't move, and is basically hiding and can't even see that much.)

Re: The Dividing Line

Looks fine to me as well. Truth be told, I haven't listed a power supply for my ship yet because I'm not sure what I want to use. I'm thinking something along the lines of either a Z.P.M or a Neutrino Ion generator, similar to what the Asgard used. Or a hybrid of the two, but I'm not certain. I'll toss the three current ideas up here and see what everyone thinks about it, especially you Rule.

Re: The Dividing Line

A Z.P.M. is basically an extremely powerful battery. I would recommend one of the actual power cores instead.
