great character builder, shame they never wrote a story and made a cool game out of it.

No, my ears are not for that. Your worse than pervy, do it to "her". :/

Sorry for the size, my gaming laptop is 20 inches wide, had to reduce it.

Making games is surprisingly hard

People think it's easy, just drag and drop a few triggers, slap on some porn animations and you've got a game
And yet they don't do it themselves. I think everyone should give it a try sometime just so they know how hard it can be to get things just right

And maybe they'll be really good at it and make some great stuff for everyone to enjoy

Re: The Reputation Hilarity/Insanity thread New version

Let's avoid bringing up that particular thread again, please.

Azure mentioned the thread because of the rep, not because of the thread's topic, so...

Also, how about this: If I ever win a really, really, really nice jackpot in the lottery, I'll hire a bunch of you and other guys, form up a team, and make a money-backed porn game, which will not only be financially successful (obviously), but also material to rub into the faces of any inexperienced smartmouthes!

...though, I'm scared of the thought of hiring Zepheral.

I concur, frankly, trying it myself cured me of questioning any form of art too critically without knowing what went into it, exspecially frame by frame animation is insane. 'So we worked a year to bring you this half minute clip, enjoy!'

I'd say deal, but teams are tricky, inser breeding season reference here. Experience tells me that there HAS to be one driving force calling the shots for good or the whole thing goes haywire.

I have four years of team leading experience, but I guess the lack of actual game development experience would make me the cashcow nevertheless. I can keep progress up-to-date and tasks organized, but f.e. any animator could tell me he just needs two more weeks for those animations. And I would have no reason to doubt it.
So yeah, especially bringing up the "Breeding Season" project has me scared now. I guess I'll just buy myself a villa with butlers and such, and live the dream/create the perfect love nest to breed the next generation of Stuffies.

Screw the whole porn game idea. Thanks for the warning Pervy! :p

Oh, I am supporting promising teams, that's for sure! Though they have to be productive, communicational, creative.....and not desperate to stick one up an ear!

Don't you dare...

Totally not desperate.
They just so tempting.

So fluffy.. so stuffie..

Re: The Reputation Hilarity/Insanity thread New version

Screw making my own team. If I ever win the lottery I'm just gonna hire one or more of my favorite h-game creators, give them a basic premise for a game and let them do their magic.
Probably Hreinn Games. They do good shit. Nomo's art style is the tits.

Re: The Reputation Hilarity/Insanity thread New version

I've been project lead for a large (Entirely voluntary) team for a free game for a long time, and I can safely say that it's like herding cats

Cats with an anti-authoritarian streak and vastly differing ideas on how the game should be, both from eachother and from the project lead's ideas. Which only got worse when there were multiple project leads for a while and it was near impossible to get together and talk about things. Until some of the volunteer coders decided that "we're coding this, so we should call the shots", got together and demanded full control of the project before immediately infighting on their own visions on things.

You absolutely need a hierarchy with a single guy calling the shots on everything. This guy doesn't even need to know how to code or animate, they just need to understand the game, game design, and the goals/vision for the game. You just need someone in charge of it all - Preferably while in charge of funding so they have something they can point to when people go "But my ideas are better!" when in reality their ideas are terrible and they're being told their ideas are terrible the playerbase of said game several times.
You absolutely need this one guy up top or the game is never going to reach any sort of goals that aren't things that can be made in a few days and then patched into it. Worse than not having someone up there is having someone who is technically up top of the hierarchy but has no power whatsoever. That way the people making things can just point to him and go "Take it up with the big guy" when people confront them about their terrible ideas and/or terrible coding quality, but nothing will ever end up happening to them and they will never learn.

I'm going to stop writing before I turn this into a ranting thread
In short- You absolutely need one guy up top with full authority to decide everything involved with the game, or things will just start falling apart

seconded. Now I know how to make a game sucessful and I know how to balance challenges and I vividly recall a game project in which I pumped hours over hours, an online server thing, where the head admin got it in their head that the thing was supposed to be a democracy.. I was like.. 'No, I should be the sole last instance of all game balance decisions, because I'm the only one that gets it right' and, I actually had the right to make that call, because up to that point I had done all the game balancing. Buuut long story short, I made the call to leave and create my own game (which paid off in the long run) They continued their bullshit and today I'm still making games and I recently bought the domain of the project after it imploded on itself. Just because I could.

The thought of democracy and treating everyone equal is all too tempting, but sometimes we need to remember that different people are good at different things. If I want art, I ask an artist, if I want a more complicated code, I ask a coder and if they aren't sure if their game design idea is a horrible mistake, they ask me.
'Yes, you could add a day/night cycle to your game and move all the npcs around, but what would it actually acomplish, other than making the player run around for npcs and wait/fast forward things? No, you don't need more realism in Pussycrusher 2(fictional title)

Rant rant!
