The stars aren't right!(Helena/Courage Wolf)

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

The guard tries to turn people away from the blazing building, but soon a squad of twenty soldiers led by an officer arrives, and the officer immediately orders Helena and the two guards to be arrested. The men are armed with spears, though some of them carry pistols as well.

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

Helena, without skipping a beat as she saw the officer, and his squad, who seemed a little upset, raised the gun towards the sky, and then, Dropped it. The guards were brandishing spears and pistols.
I must... Respectfully Decline. I like chains as much the next person but if you want to chat, you'll have to be less aggressive about it. she called, hiding her hands behind the guard and silently casting her spell. her usual, her number one fall back to just about any situation where she couldn't, or wouldn't, tip her hand too much.

Part of her it annoyed beyond measure, hiding herself, another part it thrilled with open malice. She committed the officer's face to memory even as she vanished from sight, and Launched herself over their heads, invisible, to a lightpost, and then to the top of a building, leaving them to deal with a guard who's only memory would be falling asleep, and another who ran off to follow her instructions, with no knowledge that it had been she who'd started the blaze. Only that she'd been there. She retreated for now, not to her home, but to Claire's...... She was Hungry.

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

Initiative: Helena 19, soldiers 12

The approaching soldiers move to capture Helena, but can't reach her in time and so the jester vanishes into the night while they arrest the guards and start arranging bucket chains to put out the fire, or at least stop it from spreading.

The nobles' mansions are distinct enough that Helena has no difficulties in finding Claires's house, still and dark in the night. It's less rich than Jade's but still has three floors and gardens on the terraces around it.

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

Helena grinned as she got away, slipping out of their hands while they moved to put out what had become a raging inferno. Good luck, that place was toast. Would probably stop it from catching elsewhere though. It would keep them busy.

Moving on to Claire's 3 story place, Helena looked for a way in, hungry both for Claire's soul, and the souls of all who resided in his household.

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

Though still built for beauty and usability first, the lord of this mansion is clearly security minded, as Helena soon finds out. There are only four doors leading in - three up front and servants' entrance at the back - and they're all locked. The windows are also closed, and in addition, none of them is big enough for a human to get through. The master bedroom in particular has ornate yet sturdy bars across it, making it impossible for even a halfling to get through.

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

Helena scowled at all the security, before turning and heading to his stables, and sucking off all his stallions just long enough to tear their souls from their bodies. Not as good as the noble himself, but it would hurt his finances Viciously. Once That tiny and admittedly NOT FUCKING GOOD ENOUGH revenge was handled, Helena set about gathering all the hay, oil, lanterns, and anything else flammable she could find, and started piling it around the building, humming softly to herself as she steadily built another tinderbox.

She lit it without any hesitation, the guards were all busy with the opera house fire, and she figured while unlikely she could burn the entire mansion down from the outside. She could probably draw Claire outside and catch him then. She also collected all the bits and bridles from the stables, along with several straps, he had nice leather harnesses and such. No reason to let them go to waste. They were draped over her shoulder as she started smoking Claire out of his house.

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

The stable door is locked, but it doesn't take too long for acid to weaken the wood surrounding the lock enough for Helena to tear it off. The stable is as Helena remembers from last time, though someone has tidied it up quite a bit. Killing the horses is quick if dirty work, and soon the stable is ablaze. The mansion stays silent, almost eerily so.

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

Helena snorts as she sets the stable ablaze, doing well so far not in keeping herself topped off, but always steadily gaining, feeding, growing in that sense. She was tired of Jasmine's quiet way, tired of sampling when she knew how fulfilling the real meal was.

There were risks to her mind, Jasmine had been true to that, but they could be mitigated and doing so could boost her growth, and it was working. As the mansion refused to react, Helena scowled behind the mask. What man didn't come out when his stables were on fire. Two. Someone planning something, and Someone not there to See it. But worse, no servants, nothing. Not a peep.

Finding a shadow to slip into, Helena closed her eyes and focused on the house, looking for any emotion at all, searching, hunting. If it was Empty, she'd know.

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

Helena: perception failure
???: Perception success
Attack roll: hit, 8 damage
Helena: HP 38/46

People from neighbouring manors are definitely waking up, and soon there would be people crowding to watch and perhaps put out the fire. Claire's house is still quiet, and it does indeed feel empty at first. She can't shake the feeling that there is someone inside, and after a few moment she senses someone focused, almost meditating on the third floor... Suddenly there's a loud crack of a firearm being discharged, and she feels warm blood starting to leak from her arm before the pain hits her, though in truth the wound is a mere scratch.

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

Finally she sensed someone inside and she hissed before a gun went off and she felt blood, before pain. She immediately backed off, retreating for a moment behind the stables and looking to close the wound, chanting the spell after she'd found cover.

After that she was peeling her costume from her body, folding it carefully and tucking it away before removing her mask. She could taste blood in her mouth, she was biting her tongue. They wanted blood.... Fine...

Reaching up to her collar, she opened the lock, and tossed it aside with her costume, wings bursting from her bare back before she leapt into the air, blue flames exploding into life from her body as she let her rage completely consume her this time, had nothing to seal it back or stop it, simply let all the anger the collar had pushed down and bottled up surge out of her, clutching at the souls she'd taken and looking for the shooter, every sense peeled and open including her otherworldly ones to find them.

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

CLW: 2+5
Helena: HP 45/46 Mana: 35/36

Getting behind the stable, Helena soon feels the curative energies of the spell rushing through her, healing the wound. As she hurriedly disrobes, a trio of servants comes out from a nearby manor, and one of them spots her. "Hey, you! What are you doing?" and starting to run towards her moments before she takes off the collar and flings herself into the air, suddenly consumed by rage. By luck, another shot barely misses her, and she catches a muzzleflash and movement from the top floor of Claire's manor, as the shooter appears to be attempting to flee.

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

Helena narrows her eyes as a bullet whistles by her, before screaming in absolute fury, and hurling herself at the top floor of the manor, a small blue comet of mind consuming rage, exploding as she smashed into the top floor to give chase. The problem was the small, barred windows, and as she hit them, she remembered whoever was apparently inside, Meditating. She latched onto the emotion of whoever she was chasing, she sincerely doubted it would be fear....
I WILL BURN THIS ENTIRE WORLD STARTING WITH YOU! she roared, clinging to surfaces and hurling herself forward as if gravity had no effect or play in her life, wings crushing through the air to add to her speed as she rushed around the building following the 'scent' like a creature obsessed.

She had never felt so angry, this surge of bottled up and suppressed anger boiling through her blood. It infuriated her more that she wasn't strong enough to tear through the bars, smash the walls, melt the foundations.

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

More people pour into the street, and everyone's eyes are on Helena as she smashes onto the side of the building, only for her quarry to start running downstairs. There's fear and confusion in his mind, but they're both tightly controlled, leaving him free to focus on his objective - whatever it is - rather than in panic.

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

Turning as she noticed the crowd, she narrowed her eyes, tracking her fleeing quarry with her mind. There was so much more food there......
But it wouldn't be as sweet as what was fleeing from her now.

She refused to give up on the one fleeing from her now, refused to let him go, let him Focus, she was doing the same and her only objective was to add their soul to her current small but growing collection. A Collection she knew could be tapped to add explosively to her power.

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

Soon guards would be arriving at the scene, and her quarry slips underground, his mind almost vanishing from Helena's supernatural senses.

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

NO YOU DON'T YOU SON OF A BITCH! Helena screeched, looking to follow now by entering the manor, landing next to the nearest door and smashing her way through the lock with acid, and scrambling for the way down, basement, cellar, anything that would let her pursue. This also took her out of the public eyes any longer.

Lacking any patient and only getting angrier as something as stupid as a wood door slowed her down, she drew her hand back and slammed it into the door, a soul burning around her palm as she applied the soulfire directly into the door to blow it off it's hinges entirely so she could continue the chase.

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

Perception check: success(barely)
Helena: HP 39/40 Mana: 30/36 1 point of con damage
The acid is not ideal for quick work, but as the blue flames suddenly burst out from Helena's hand, the door shatters, exploding inwards and allowing entry. The man is already underground and running, but she has a good idea of where to look and manages to find the barely hidden trapdoor quickly. Luckily that one isn't locked, and opening it reveals a wine cellar, with a door opening to the escape tunnel. There's no sign of the man or the light he must be carrying, but the tunnel twists quite a bit and he can't have gotten far.

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

Helena, blowing the door to splinters, tore into the manor, glaring around before spotting the trap door down into a wine cellar, and an escape tunnel. He needed a light, she did not, and while she had a hunch about who this was, she rendered herself invisible anyway, tearing through the tunnel by springing off the walls, staying away from the floor as she moved. She wanted him, she wanted to feel him bleed under her claws, see the look in his eyes when she tore everything that made him, Him, away to be consumed.

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

As Helena rushes down the tunnel, a portcullis slams down behind her, and she barely manages to dive underneath another that is coming down ahead of her. Behind her, she can see that there was a third portcullis as well. She can just see light in a chamber ahead.

Re: Are the stars right?(Helena/Courage Wolf)

The only thing Helena can think to do now is speed up as the gates start crashing down, one more ahead still open and light beyond. She'd only barely cleared the second this close only wanted it more.
