And so, with the battle for the Hidden Village well and truly won, and Aescila's freedom save from Dina's Insight secured, Alex was able to enjoy a time of peace. Angelle, true to her supernatural bloodline, grew up exceedingly quickly, growing to the body and mind of a teenager in only two short years. She was a rambunctious child, and an incredibly energetic one, possessed of incredible power for one so young. She was also possessed of many warring natures; the pride of a dragon, the native selfishness and desire for power of a demon, and the instinctive desire to protect and to love of an angel, all mashed up with the freedom offered by her human blood. Nonetheless, she was endlessly affectionate and loving, and she and Aes could raise her as they would.

The Hidden Village was rebuilt with the help of the Fey of the Summer Court, and she and Aes had a home together. The dark angel, though still possessed of some of the Insight she'd inherited when joining with Dina, was present at her side throughout the raising of their child. She still had to leave at times, pursuing a vision which she was never able to more than vaguely explain, but they were few and far between, and she was never gone for more than a day or so. While not every time they made love was as intimate as what they'd done at the conclusion of the wild orgy they'd had after Dina's Insight was divided, many times it was, and though Aes never gave her another child (saying that they should probably wait a while) they coupled regularly and passionately. Though she seemed to physically favor her angelic side now, Aescila's demonic nature was still very much a part of her, and their coupling caused Alex to change in some fundamental ways. Keeping a succubus with the power of an angel was a strain, at first, but eventually her soul adapted to it, expanding in order to better provide for her lover.

The Insight she'd been gifted with manifested uniquely in Alex, and though it was different from the equally unusual manner in which it manifested in Angelle, the short predictions she received allowing her to see some things before they happened and making her an even more dangerous opponent in combat. The visions weren't always completely accurate, more like a best guess that previously she'd based on her opponent's stance, but it was still an asset to the dragoness in her training. Haedrin, the knight that had commanded the battle to take the village back from the invaders, was sent to the Hidden Village as the liaison to the Summer Court, and when out of his armor the knight proved to be fairly laid back. He offered to train Alex in their spare time, teaching her the brutal style of hand to hand combat that she'd seen him use in that battle. The fey were eager to reward her for her heroic efforts as well, and after a ceremony in which they enchanted her blade, her shield, and her armor, Alex was officially knighted as a member of the faerie court, technically putting her only a rank below Haedrin, and given a signet ring that would allow her to call upon them if ever she required aid.

Lady Albatross was a regular figure in their life as well, though the unusual fairy lord was always cryptic and strange when she was around Alex even if she never failed to be kind and helpful. Abariel was, as she'd said, around them quite a bit. She'd conceived a daughter of her own on the night of the orgy, and had named Aescila and Alex as the baby angel's godparents after she was born, and she often brought over little Bielah when she began to teach Angelle how to control her power. Even observing those lessons caused something to stir within Alex, the fundamentals enough to allow her to use her own essence more effectively. Creshnibon, despite her near constant feelings of inadequacy at the task (which she shared only with Alex and Aes) proved to be a fairly good administrator, bringing the village back together and making it even stronger than before. She offered to teach Alex magic on the side, as an additional personal thanks, but the dragoness quickly found that such learning would be difficult and require a great deal of practice if she wanted to truly master any of them.

Kimi, though not related directly to any of them by blood, was practically a member of the family by now, and was present for much of Angelle's childhood as her favored aunt. She was oft responsible for mischief, but it was never truly harmful to their daughter. Though Alex and Aes had remained curled together following their intense moment of intimacy, the draconic succubus had reminded Aes of the punishment she'd been promised the next day, and if Alex consented to allow it Aes was happy to give the other woman what she'd asked for, Aescila's version of punishment apparently proving to be a long session of fairly vigorous anal that left the golden dragonkin as an exhausted mess on the floor. Her presence in their household was not without direct benefit to Alex, however, as she often cared for Angelle when Alex and Aes needed a break, and Kimi happily taught Alex the sexual arts in (at least to the public at large) secret, allowing her to please Aes even more than she already did.

The captured dark slime, Azhure, was kept under guard at all times at first, but eventually the slime earned her freedom through a mixture of patience and general helpfulness. Numerous other members of her kind, slimes once loyal to the aliens but then left bereft of control from their overlords, made their home in the Hidden Village as well, and the one that Alex had spared was instrumental in their rehabilitation into civilized society, eventually leading to a degree of acceptance for the barely humanoid creatures. The slime went out of her way to express her thanks to Alex for sparing her, and seemed oddly familiar with Kimi, and was always kind to Angelle and Bielah.

The peace was not without its woes, however. It became readily apparent that the monsters that had attacked them were not an isolated incident, and though the reaction was somewhat mixed when they learned that the xenophobic Badarian Empire in which their secluded home was located had fallen, the news that the entirety of the known world had been devastated by the attacks was received with almost universal horror. Refugees flooded the village from all corners of the world, but with their greatest nemesis fallen the village was able to reveal itself to the world.

The rise of the demon city of Acheron from the remains of Artmirst only a short ways to the South was met by many, particularly the demons native to the Hidden Village who had fled Artmirst to escape from the control of Hell, as something to be extremely concerned about, but it quickly became apparent that this was no warlike invasion. The city offered them military protection if they would pay their taxes, but after the fairly resounding no the demons seemed completely unperturbed, opening up trade relations that benefited both communities.

Two and a half years later, in the Autumn following the second anniversary of the Invasion, Alex felt a call, a pull in her soul, and knew that it was time. Aescila was beside her in an instant, and without words she knew that the dark angel had heard the same call within her. It was time for Alex to reunite with her family. Angelle was in control of power... Mostly, and their home was safe and secure. Their house would be looked after, both Kimi and Abariel offering to see to that. The enchantments that had been made upon her gear were strong, her body and spirit were stronger than ever, and she had her new family by her side... And the first order of business was to introduce her new family to her old one.

For a moment or two Alex simply looked at herself in a mirror. She wore her armor, the enchantments given to her as a Knight to Summer and those made using the spoils of war combining until the armor itself practically molded to her body. She could feel it laying so close that it felt like a second skin. It even looked it, the steel dyed a brilliant green that matched her hide so well that it looked like nothing more than natural armor. And it didn't even weigh her down in the least. Its weight was still there, that much she could tell whenever she picked it up. But once it adhered to her every curve that weight simply vanished. She felt like she could run for hours on end and never tire, move without making the slightest of sounds, let her inner fire burn without worrying whether it would boil her within her armor once more. It was expensive as hell. It was one of the few things her draconic nature took true pride in. She had a fortune, and she carried it with her wherever she went.

As Alex gave in to her vanity and looked herself over again she was surprised how much she'd changed over the last couple of years. At first glance it didn't seem like much. After the whirlwind of events following the Arrival as it had come to be called her time with Aes left her body mutating. Even their first night together had left her with a pair of horns, nothing more than bumps, really, that she never noticed until Aes gave them a loving little flick. But constant exposure to her angel's powerful soul encouraged those nubs to grow, something gradual that Alex merely glanced over until Aes had grabbed them and used them as handles while Alex was giving her some oral attention.

Then there were the other changes. The more subtle ones, like her hide toughening into a thicker layer of protection, her skin becoming more supple and smooth, and her tongue managing to stretch itself out and twist itself into knots that nearly matched Kimi's skill. And these came with a price. She could feel her soul warping with each change. The magics within her body were reacting with Aescila, and unchecked she knew it would eventually cause her own to become more unstable. It would act like an infection, chaos spreading from herself into anyone she shared her bed with, and though she had no personal reason to worry it was the effect on others that forced her to take action. And Kimi was that driving force. No matter lascivious and wanton her cousin could be the succubatic dragon never inflicted any corruption on anyone she slept with. It was a decision she had made, one Alex was told after asking her mentor. She never gave a reason for it, and Alex never questioned it, but as she sprawled her body across her teacher and nuzzled up next to her following a rather intense lesson that left the both of them lounging against each other in complete satisfaction Alex decided she wasn't going to add to Kimi's burden.

But that was easier said than done. Though sex with Aes wasn't a constant thing it was quite frequent. It left corruption gathering within her at an astounding rate, and though a resident druid offered his services to help purge that corruption at a reasonable price the sheer frequency became a rather expensive habit. And that didn't take into account the few times where neither Alex nor Aes could control themselves and devolved into a pair of coupled creatures that could put most orgies to shame. In those instances Alex felt herself nearly tipping over the edge, her spirit becoming more volatile and infectious, and to combat that she needed to make her recent mutations a part of her natural make-up. But when she it came time to pay for that more expensive procedure she was told that it had already been handled, someone else had already paid. When Alex asked she never received an answer, at it made her curious. When it happened a second time it made her nervous. The third roused suspicion and paranoia that someone was trying to gather a debt to hold over her head, and Alex went to investigate.

Alex shook her head to clear her mind of that little trip down memory lane. She never realized she could be so paranoid, but in a way it was good for her. That path of events led her to take Creshnibon's offer tutoring seriously, and though she never did learn who had been paying for her purges she now had the means to deal with her corruption herself. And though she may never use it in battle merely having access to magic proved to be a useful tool in itself.

After a few more seconds of self-inspection Alex decided her gear was as polished as it could get, and her hand cut through the air to extinguish the few candle flames she had summoned. This left her room darkened, and what would probably be a surprise to many considering all the primping she had done til then a rather large and unassuming cape was plucked from her bed and wrapped over her shoulders. It practically hid everything but her head, and that was quickly solved when a hood was pulled up. Then it was quickly put back down. She didn't want to go for the complete stranger look. Besides, her horns were in the way.

With her preparations complete Alex finally left her home. A heartfelt thanks was given to Kimi and Abariel for volunteering to mind the Alistar house while the family was out, and that was followed by a rather affectionate hug to each of them. An even more affectionate hug was offered to her godchild, and a moment later Alex lifted the little cherub in her arms and promised to return. She was surprised at how much she'd come to love little Bielah. Part of her wondered if she wasn't simply throwing her maternal love onto the baby angel because she didn't have all that much time to do it to her own, but even if it was simply displacement she wasn't going to worry. It wouldn't make her love the cherub any less.

As Alex handed the girl back to her mother a sense of loss settled in her stomach. It blossomed into a rather strong urge to simply stay, to protect her new home and help it grow, to help Abariel raise her daughter, to help Creshnibon realize she wasn't the failure she feared she was. But it quickly died at seeing Angelle. Seeing her daughter standing there, watching her with her wings unfolded and fluttering slightly in excitement, Alex knew she couldn't keep her girl stuck here. She wanted to take Angelle home. She wanted to give her own mother a chance to hold her granddaughter, even if she never had the chance to hold the beautiful little baby in her arms. And once that was done she could finally sit down and focus on the one missing piece in her life. She was finally ready to face Akorvick and Annabeth, and as her hand brushed over the gold band on her finger she was finally determined to settle her past.

Clad in armor that fit her like a second skin, magic now coursing through both it and her own body more than ever before, and with sword and shield bearing enchantments garnered by her own prowess and gifted by angels and the greatest smiths of the Summer Court, Alexandra Alistair was a sight to behold. There had been little call for her to appear in full gear since the invasion, leaving her weapons and armor untested in real battle, and though Alex felt a vague sense of comfort in the viridian metal and when she held sword or shield in her hand, she couldn't be sure of their power. Not yet.

Stepping out into the daylight and saying her goodbyes, Kimi looked as tired as she always did whenever it wasn't exactly when she wanted to wake up but returned Alexandra's embrace warmly. Though she was the less emotional and intimate of the two succubi that Alex had spent so much time with in the last two years, Alex had found that Kimi was very tender and affectionate when she let down her guard, and now was just such a time. Though her eyes shed no tears, Kimi hugged Alexandra tightly, giving her a pat on the back as she quietly said; "Good luck... Be safe out there Alex~" The other dragoness hugged Aescila and Angelle goodbye while Alex turned to Abariel and Bielah. The older angel smiled warmly and, like Kimi, returned Alexandra's embrace tightly. "We'll look after the place for you... But don't be gone too long, else I'll have to come looking."

She pulled back and gave Alex a brief serious look, "You can contact me if you need me..." she glanced at the signet ring given to her by the fey, and then gave Alex a soft smile and added; "Or if you just want some company along the road." Bielah came waddling forth from around Abariel's robe as Alex moved to embrace the tiny angel, smiling and giggling as she was lifted into the armored half-dragon's embrace. She'd taken her first steps only a few days ago, an act that had drawn tears of joy from her mother (and quite possibly Alex as well given that she'd been there to witness it,) and had been walking wherever she could ever since. The tiny blond girl's wings were still too small to allow her to fly, but she was growing up quickly for an angel, nearly two years old and already walking. She still hadn't mastered speech, but it was clear that she recognized Alex even in her unusual garb, as she laughed delightedly and cuddled against the dragoness while making unintelligible baby noises.

When the cherub was back on her own unsteady feet and with her goodbyes said, Alex and her new family were ready to set out from the Hidden Village, heading to her father's domain far to the North. Their journey, if she opted to take the route on foot, would take them past the demon city of Acheron, through (or around if she wanted to add a week and a half to the trip) the alien infested heartlands of Badaria, across the embattled Pass of Ghosts, and into the war-torn lands of Crolia to her father's mountain domain, a journey that would take roughly three months. Or, she could take up Abariel's offer to teleport her to Therion, which would skip all that and drop the trip to a week through the mountains in one of the most pleasant autumns on record. The choice was hers.

The little coos and cries of delight had the mighty warrior melting into a puddle of motherly love, and as she set her goddaughter down she came to a decision. "I'll accept your offer, Abariel." An instant later she noticed Angelle starting to droop a little, the disappointment at not getting to see the world shining through, and Alex gently grabbed her daughter by the arm and pulled her closer. "Hey, don't worry. Once this is done and we're back home I'll take you to Acheron myself." Her other arm reached out and pulled Aescila close, and with her family held on either side of her she nodded to Abariel. Time to leave.

Abariel shot Angelle a sympathetic look, "You'll see plenty to interest you in the North, little one." With that, the family gathered together, and Abariel took Alex by the shoulder. The magic was quick and simple, taking them hundreds of miles in the blink of an eye, and when they materialized once more the air was several degrees cooler. Their breath frosted in front of them, but the four of them were possessed of enough supernatural heritage that no natural cold could hope to bother them. The city of Therion, the crown jewel of the North and the last great bastion of human civilization, stood before them, the Tower Goldspike gleaming in the morning sun at its heart. A thin dusting of snow coated the ground beneath them, likely fallen in the night given that it was already melting beneath their feet. The Hidden Village occasionally saw snow, and though it was nothing to rival the North none of them were unfamiliar with it.

Holding Alex's shoulder for another moment, Abariel gave Alex a soft squeeze and then swept her gaze across the three of them, smiling. "Good luck, my friends.... I will pray that you don't require it. If you wish to return, either myself or Aescila may take you back to the Hidden Village." Alex's dark-winged lover nodded, and offered a sardonic smile as she replied; "I can take us back when we're finished. I would hope that I know my own home well enough to return there!" Abariel flashed a bemused smile and gave Alex's shoulder one last squeeze before releasing her, and then following a moment in which the dragoness could offer any parting words to the angel, she would disappear before their very eyes.

With their travel time cut significantly, Alex, Aescila, and Angelle were free to go where they would. The morning was fresh, and Therion stood before them, easily within an hour's travel if they wanted to do a little sightseeing. Alex had heard of the city's battle against the aliens, and the intervention of the god Doraleous that had destroyed the monstrous being that had brought down the invasion on the day of the Arrival. Towers reached up into the sky, and even from a distance Alex could see people bustling about both in and outside of its walls, prosperity booming within the city even during times of war.

To the South West lay the road that would eventually take her to her father's holdings, nestled in a valley near the mountains bordering Badaria but far from the Pass of Ghosts and the war with the orcs. The lands between them were peaceful as far as Alex could remember, though the war might have inhibited patrols somewhat. Still, it would be an easy week's journey compared to what they would have had going across Badaria and into Crolia from the South. Aes glanced at the city, and then eyed Angelle who was staring at the massive settlement longingly, before looking to Alex with a wry grin. "Care for a bit of sightseeing, or should we get straight underway?"

So this is Therion... Though she once lived nearby and even caught sight of it from a distance not once had Alex ever entered the grand city and come face to face with the legendary Tower Goldspike. Even in those few seconds when they'd first arrived the dragon was far more concerned with the angel that brought them here. The squeeze that Abariel gave her shoulder was friendly and comforting, and when it lingered Alex didn't mind in the least. She did offer a rather amused smirk at Aescila's reply, and though she didn't give any further farewell she did offer the angel a bow just before she vanished.

And now there she was, her own eyes wandering around for a few seconds before they returned and settled on Angelle's obvious restlessness. "Well, we should probably leave if we want to make it there before any large snow drifts start blocking out path..." Though she had turned toward Aes Alex could practically feel the growing sense of disappointment and despair on her daughter's face. "But... We really should grab some supplies. It's wise to have something to eat even when you can live off the land." Was that some hope that just bloomed into the air. "And we should see how the lands have fared since the orc invasion. Perhaps a day of proper preparation is in order..." Of course none of that would take more than a couple hours, especially since Alex could hunt rather well if she needed. But her daughter was curious, and she couldn't deny that she was as well. Some sightseeing was definitely in order.

Angelle drooped as expected at Alex's initial statement, but then perked up immensely when she added her qualifier. "Yay!" she cried gleefully, jumping up and down with excitement. Aescila rolled her eyes at their child's antics, "Sure~ We could use some supplies in case of emergencies!"

Angelle was practically bouncing all the way to the gigantic city, but Aescila had sobered quickly after Alex mentioned the war, and as their daughter strode on ahead she came close to Alex, and spoke to her in a whisper; "Do you think there'll be anything... Dangerous... Along the way? You used to live up here... I know Angelle's been learning, but she's a long way off from being ready to fight anything like we did." A reminder of the battle they'd fought to reclaim their home, a violent affair still no doubt fresh in her memory.

When they reached the gates, they found Angelle stopped by a pair of men in shining scale armor, spears crossed before their now confused daughter and swords belted at their hips. "You can't go in unless you tell us just... What in the void's name you are, miss. We've got to keep security tight, don't want to let any orc spies in!" one of the helmeted men said agitatedly, and Angelle promptly beamed and answered; "I'm confusing!" As she and Aes walked up, Alex got the distinct impression that the expressions on the two men's faces didn't match that of her daughter. They both tensed upon seeing Aescila, however, leveling spears at her and Alex as the other man cried out; "You.... You'd better not cause trouble, fallen one! There's powers protecting Therion greater even than you!"

He clutched at an amulet in the shape of a hammer with the handle sculpted in the form of a lightning bolt, a common symbol of the Thunderlord Doraleous. Aescila seemed far more amused than threatened, having had no intention of causing mischief of any kind in the ancient Northern city, while Angelle just looked frightened and more confused. The city gates were only a short ways beyond these two, and though none of them exactly fit into a crowd, they'd likely not be picked out so easily for hassle once they joined the throng of people going in and out of Therion. A number of stalls were set up outside, however, and a well-to-do inn was present beyond the gates as well, all likely made to cater to travelers. They could probably easily get both news and supplies here without having to actually enter the city itself.

Alex took a contemplative look to answer her lover's concern. "When I last moved through here there wasn't much to worry about, just the usual bandit and animal threats that can be found on any road. But that was years ago. Now..." Years and a couple of invasions. The alien scourge had fallen onto this city as well, and though Doraleous himself had appeared to purge that menace from the city that didn't mean they hadn't escaped to the countryside. For all they knew there could be an entire enclave waiting no more than a mile from the city gates. Then there were the orcs. Though the clans had been scattered and independent during her childhood the sudden rise of the King had led to a massive march that claimed nearly the entirety of the Northern snow lands. They had been stopped at the Pass of Ghosts, and last she heard they weren't in any position to threaten Therion. But that only accounted for the honorable Clansmen. The Clanless were another story. They marched forward at their own pace, took whatever they wanted, enslaved or killed every living soul they came across. To find a couple of them this far West wouldn't surprise her. "... I didn't lie. I'm unsure how either the alien or orc invasions have affected the area, and I'd like to learn a little more before heading out."

Of course her concern immediately shifted from the possible trials of their trip to the guards blocking Angelle's path into the city. The question one guard asked confirmed her fears that the orcs were more of a threat than she would have liked, but when Angelle simply beamed at the men and answered as innocently and honestly as she could Alex couldn't keep herself from chuckling. Her daughter was a confusing mess whenever anyone laid eyes on her, and when either Aes or herself tried to explain her ancestry things just became more complicated.

At that point Alex would usually come up and simply answer with one word, but as she approached with Aes at her side the guards suddenly stiffened. Their spears lowered, prepared to lance the Mated lovers should they cause any trouble, and it was quite clear that they saw Aes and those she traveled with as a direct threat. It put a bit of a sour note in Alex's mood, and as she addressed the men she sounded a little testy. "That's enough of that." She stood straight and tall, her arms coming out to cross themselves just under her chest, and as she did her cape opened just enough to hint at the armor she wore underneath. "If she really wanted to cause trouble do you think she would bother walking through a manned gate?"

For a couple moments she waited for an answer, and after a bit she softened her stance and calmly approached without any sign of fear. "But I do understand your concerns. I've seen a mad angel myself, so I know what they're capable of. But my Mate is no threat to your city or its people. Neither am I, and neither is my daughter. You have my word on it as a dragon-borne and as a Knight to the Summer Court." She held up the ring she wore on her her right hand, the Signet of Summer plain enough for anyone to see. Both the fairies and the dragons had a strong sense of honor, and when either promised something they meant every word of it. As guards to Therion these men should recognize it.

...But if they didn't Alex would simply sigh and look a little disappointed. "Very well, then. What will it take to gain access to your fair city?"

Aescila pursed her lips thoughtfully, and after a moment she replied; "It seems safe here, but then again, it seemed pretty safe back home too... Even though there was plenty of danger right outside our door. They seem to have recovered from the aliens, but I don't know about the orcs. I've never met any.... Are they powerful?" Aescila seemed genuinely curious, but before Alex could respond they were interrupted by the situation with their daughter and the two guardsmen.

Alex could see the two men tense at her irritated tone, but they held back from adopting a more combative stance than merely pointing their spears in her and Aes' general direction, allowing her to go on. "If you didn't know 'er and you saw her walking into your home, would you let her walk about without watchin her? There's plenty she could do in secret that might hurt us, and folk round here are hurting enough as it is!" The guardsman, despite his accent, spoke with a great deal of passion in his voice, and though it was clear that any one of the three of them could likely swat the duo like flies, they wouldn't back down if they thought Alex and her family posed a threat to their home. Angelle now looked even more confused, and quickly asked; "What are you talking about? Father wouldn't hurt anyone! Not unless they were bad!" Those words only seemed to make the two men just as confused as Angelle was, albeit for different reasons.

The softening of her stance, however, caused them to ease slightly, and they made no further moves that might be construed as threatening. Her appeasing tone and understanding words caused them to raise their spears back towards the sky and set their shields aside, and one of them replied; "You're.... Talking a little bit above our pay grade there, miss, but if you'll give your word, then that's good enough. You'll be answering to the sword and the noble's magic if you break it." Moving apart, they motioned simultaneously towards Therion while Aescila looked on with the same bemused smile she'd worn since the encounter started and Angelle began to beam once again. "Go ahead, you're free to enter the city..." said the one, and the other somewhat belatedly added; "Enjoy your stay in Therion, strangers!"

With that they were free to continue on, and though they got a number of odd looks from the people that they passed, Alex, Aescila, and a steadily skipping Angelle entered the great city uninhibited after their initial encounter with the guards. "Hah, as if they'da been able to stop us~" a familiar voice, feminine but low and slightly raspy sounded from ahead of them as Angelle's right wing slowly lifted, the "face" of Necro appearing on it. That frightened quite a few people, but as it became clear that they weren't about to be brutally murdered people just let it pass - and gave Angelle and her parents a wide berth. "You'd think that I would have gotten used to them talking by now..." Aescila muttered quietly, and it was true that the manner in which Angelle's wings sometimes came alive, even possessing the ability to speak, had never failed to disturb the demoness somewhat. Aes had never failed to love their daughter, however, that much Alex knew with absolute certainty, and as their daughter sped up Aes quickly said; "Slow down Angelle! We've got plenty of time!"

The gentle order was followed immediately, but also without any apparent regret on their daughter's part. While she wasn't always the most obedient child, it was generally easy to get her to behave if one asked her in the right manner, a trait that Aescila had generally attributed to her angelic heritage rather than her more willful demonic, draconic, and human natures. "Where are we gonna go first?" she asked excitedly, bouncing on her heals still, and that was a fairly good question. Therion was home to dozens of markets, but the Grand Trading Hall in the merchant's quarter was oft considered one of the greatest in the world, possessing exotic goods from across the known world and beyond. There were a number of taverns and inns in a wide range of styles and quality on offer as well, where they might find rooms for the night or information on the quality of the roads from the other travelers staying there. The guard towers that dotted the city would likely have such information as well, or would be able to point them in the right direction, and there was always the old staple of simply wandering about and talking to random people.

For attractions, Therion had plenty on offer. There were a number of guilds devoted to finding jobs for adventurers if Alex felt the urge to risk such a detour, or where she might find out things that the guards wouldn't be able to tell her about the conditions of the local highways. Restaurants and artisans of all types were to be found in the massive city, some of the finest in the world, and all she had to do was think of what she wanted and ask a guard for directions. The Tower Goldspike, upon which Doraleous himself had stood to work the magics with which he'd struck down the gigantic floating alien and the tallest structure in the world, towered over the city like a grand beacon, legendarily indestructible and looking as if it were made of solid gold, and even Aes looked up at with a great deal of awe. The gladiators arena stood only a short ways to the East, visible over the tops of the buildings immediately around them, and they could likely catch a battle or perhaps even participate if Alex felt up for such. Finally, only a short ways into the city the half-dragon spotted a small stand behind which a number of fairly shabby looking people sat, all apparently extremely bored, and a hastily scrawled sign hanging over it that read; "Tour Guides, only 5 denarii an hour."

With entry granted and Angelle having the chance to enjoy herself Alex thanked the guards and walked in without another word. For a moment she took to swinging her head around like some gawking tourist, which in essence she was, but that came to a sudden halt. That low voice calling out could only mean one thing, and a moment later Alex found herself looking into the face of Necro. It was an odd thing finding the feather's of Angelle's wings taking on their own personality, and though she would probably never get over it herself she came to accept it. "You're right, but this way we have free reign to move around without calling attention to ourselves." But the stares and the wide berth said otherwise. "Or not as much..."

When it came time to choose a destination Alex was at a loss. There were a countless number of destinations in mind ranging from the markets to the arena and to the main attraction to the city itself, the Tower Goldspike. Even Aes was captivated by its majesty, and such a wonder practically demanded that Therion's visitors pay homage to it. But out of the corner of her eye Alex spotted something odd. Apparently there were some tour guides, self-appointed by the looks of it, and though they were a sorry sight such a service would be greatly appreciated.

So Alex did the next best thing. She calmly strode up to the nearest guard and discreetly asked about the group offering tours of the city. "They're new, just started up, and haven't seen much business yet. The whole thing seems really shady to me, I'd watch out.... Heard tell they got the idea from visitors from Acheron!" She'd heard about that, Acheron's guides. Apparently they functioned as just that, but there was more to their job then simply leading visitors around the city. Acheron had a reputation, and the guides helped keep people from being swallowed by that reputation. But Therion didn't have that kind of a problem. She'd never heard of any other city that was as inherently wicked as the Demon City of Vice. So why would they think they needed to do that here?

"Thank you," she told the guard, and without worrying too much about it she led her family past the tourist kiosk. "I think we should head to the city's main attraction and have a look around. Then we can look around the markets or even the Trading Hall and see if we can find a gift to bring to your grandparents. After that we'll see about finding a room for the night, and if we still have time we can head out to the arena and see what it has to offer."

Aescila rolled her eyes at the mentioned of not drawing attention to themselves. She could have easily hidden her wings, but the once-demon almost never did so, preferring it when people took her for what she was. After her exchange with the guard and bypassing the tour guide booth, Alex and co started towards the heart of the city. On her trip to Acheron with a delegation from her home village, Alex had realized quite quickly that much of the demon city was still an abandoned ruin, leaving only the portions that the tourists went to and the ones that the demons used for their offices in a state that could really be called inhabited. Therion was nothing like that, as the further into the city they got, the more crowded the streets became. Therion Guardsmen in crisp uniforms worn over gleaming armor, musicians and pages garbed in garish colors, adventurers and warriors with weapons and armor not unlike her own, craftsmen in their work clothes bustling about, merchants and nobles in their finery among retinues of personal guards and servants... Humans and elves alike filled the streets of the grand city, and though they attracted many stares and a few curious looks, they traveled uncontested through the streets.

Angelle and Aescila just seemed to want to take it all in, but their destination wasn't by any means difficult to find. It took nearly two hours to travel through the lively city, but when they arrived on the grand plaza that surrounded the Tower Goldspike, they found it no less crowded. There was more room, to be sure, but people bustled to and fro across the grand expanse, covering the wide flat area around the magic tower in what would probably have looked like a colony of ants from the sky. The tower was huge, and as she approached Alex could feel it thrumming with power, raw magical energy emanating from it in a constant outpouring that was so potent that she almost felt as if she could tap into it. Her armor began to tingle around her pleasantly as it was washed in the Tower's magic. It quickly became apparent that the Tower itself wasn't open to visitors, but merely seeing it, and experiencing it up close seemed to have both Aescila and Angelle in awe. The sheer size of it was enormous, the base as wide around as the Hidden Village was in total... Including the lake and the cleared grounds around it, and it stretched for what looked like miles up into the sky.

When they later went to the Grand Trading Hall, they found themselves in a different sort of awe, as they encountered almost literally everything on sale. Escorts, mercenaries, jewelry, food, toys, weapons, armor, slaves.... Potions and poultices, medicine, gold and silver and gems both worked and in the rough, candles of a thousand different scents, crystals in a rainbow of colors and a seemingly endless myriad of shapes, clothes that ran from risque to formal to functional in every style that Alex had ever seen and more. Angelle seemed to want a little bit of everything, but Aes managed to content her with a few baubles while she also acquired enough rations that they could likely make the trip to her parent's house without having to hunt or gather if they ate sparingly enough. That left Alex with what she wanted to get for her parents, leaving her with a number of options. The building itself was huge, easily covering the entirety of her father's private estate back home in terms of pure space, and all of it was well lit and breathed well despite the huge crowds that surged through it.

At one point, however, she would hear a deep, booming masculine voice clearly call out her name; "Alexandra Alistair!" Turning to view the source, she found an incredibly tall man with skin so dark that it was nearly black, clad in a puffy, brightly color robe that was a mix of bright gold, fiery orange, and blood red. He stood behind a crystal ball and smiled at her with a wide grin that exposed a golden tooth nestled in with the other normal ones, which looked unusually bright against his incredibly dark skin. "I have foreseen your coming...." he declared mysteriously, patting his crystal ball as if it were a favored pet. Out of his robes the man produced a small ornate wooden box, its surface carved with images of dragons battling beings so alien that she had never seen the like of them before, not even among the ranks of the invaders. He held out the box to her and said; "Take this, for the cost of four coins of copper, and it will save your life when it is time for it to open... Take it for the price of five imperial irons, and it will save your daughter's life. Take it from my hand and give me nothing, and the fates are uncertain.... Leave it, and your family will suffer." Though his cryptic words might easily be construed as a threat, there was no such thing suggested in the strange man's tone, and he would accept her answer either way. Later, if she attempted to tell Aes or Angelle about the strange encounter, both would claim to have not seen him, and if she went back she would find the alcove in which the man's shop stood now housing a stand selling sugared cakes run by a blond elf woman.

Their next destination, sleeping arrangements, would give a wide breadth of options. Eventually, however, Aescila pointed to a tavern as they passed it, "The Fool and the Pipe" and say; "That one. Got a good feeling about it." Stepping inside, they would find a fairly homey atmosphere, the building stone and brick outside but furnished within by hardwood and lit by a large fireplace and glowing magical lanterns that mimicked firelight perfectly. The place already had a number of people in it, a slightly rowdy but apparently good-natured group of men, likely soldiers by the look of them, as well as a number of other people that looked like regulars. They got a number of odd looks, of course, but a smiling waitress immediately came up and said; "Hello! How can I help you? We're still serving lunch if you're hungry, we've got fresh barrels of mead and we just opened a bottle of Shappiro's Reserve (fine wine) if you're looking for drinks, and we've still got plenty of private rooms available~"

It wasn't long after mid day by the time they arrived, and as such Alex opted to go to the arena. They'd been walking all day, and Angelle was visibly beginning to tire even though she didn't actually complain about it, unused to moving about so much and suffering so much excitement in one day. The arena wasn't far, however, and when the man in front of the door into the titanic structure spotted Alexandra's armor he grinned and said; "Oh, I like the look 'ah you! Here to spectate, or to try your hand in the arena?" She could hear the roar of a great crowd within, cheers and jeers alike filling the air, and Angelle almost looked intimidated by it. Aescila, on the other hand, grinned at her and said; "It's almost like back in Hell... But presumably without all of the torture and stuff that comes before and after! You up for some practice? That armor could use some breaking in~"

The Tower Goldspike... As Alex spied it from a distance and kept coming closer and closer the thing simply became larger and larger. She wasn't even standing next to it before she could tell that they could move the entire Hidden Village into its base, lake and crops and all, and looking up nearly made her dizzy. How high did this thing stretch? She couldn't even see the top. It was almost a wonder that she never noticed this thing even when she was a child! What kind of people could build such a thing? And that was nothing compared to the power she felt as she neared. Waves of magic simply washed off the tower, enough that she felt like she could create wonders using even her own limited arcane talents, and as she instinctively reached out to touch that power her armor came alive. It thrummed in the tower's presence, and as those vibrations rolled over her body Alex let out the very faintest of gasps. She quickly regained control of herself, but she still let out a small smile when she dipped her head and placed a hand over the plate that covered her heart. "So you enjoy it, too..."

It took some effort to pull herself away, but she couldn't simply sit there and bask in that steady flow of magic for eternity. Once she managed to regain her freedom it was off to the Trading Hall, and there Alex was left surprised once again. She'd heard stories back home of how everything under the sun was available under this one roof, but actually walking in and seeing it all was simply staggering. Everything she'd heard was completely and honestly true. From escorts to mercenaries, from weapons to salves, from jewelry to clothing and every mix imaginable that one could even dream. There had to be something she could find as a gift to present on her return, but the sheer volume of choice was nearly as dizzying as the Tower.

But before she could even hope to find her gifts a deep baritone called out her name. She froze before turning to its source, and when she found a complete and total stranger welcoming her with an all too bright smile she was instantly on her guard. He fashioned himself as some sort of mystic, one that saw her arrival, and as she approached he presented a small ornate box. Its surface was carved with the images of dragons, and they did battle with...things that defied explanation. And it was hers. No questions, no surprises, she could take it simply by reaching for it. But he did give her a small warning. It could change fate. And that change came at a price. One would ensure her survival. Another would protect her daughter. Simply taking it would leave fate uncertain. And leaving it behind would spell disaster. This was far too absurd to be real, especially with the veiled threat in the air, but... Well, it didn't really feel like a threat. The man and his impossibly bright smile spoke as if this was a fact, that fate itself would be molded by the simply contents of this box. And... Well... She just couldn't seem to pass it up. She couldn't put her finger on why, but she found herself trusting him. If this was a fleece then it was a damned good one because she was fishing out five denarii and handing them over. She doubted he'd ask why she gave him what she did, but in the case he did she had an answer. "I can ensure my own fate, but I'll do nearly anything for my daughter." But even if he didn't ask any question she had one of her own. "What happens if this box never needs to be opened?"

With her purchase made she relayed the tale of her purchase with Aes, and when Alex motioned to the small shop where she'd been she was rather confused by the sudden appearance of the small bakery stand. There was something creepy about that, and when she had the time she would need to get her unassuming little box appraised. But that wouldn't happen just yet. They needed to find some place to stay for the night before they left in the morning, and after a small search Aes pointed out a modest but pleasant tavern that made Alex feel right at home. The atmosphere itself felt rather friendly, and though the received the customary stares of curiosity they were welcomed immediately by a waitress. "Lunch sounds wonderful, as does the mead. And we'd like to arrange a room for the night, two beds." Of course if anyone had any strong objections to it Alex was open to change.

With lunch out of the way it was time to move on to the arena. The grand building was a short walk away, something that proved a godsend for the tiring Angelle, and as they all approached the door man spied Alex's armor quite easily. When asked whether she would participate or merely watch the crowd let out a rather boisterous roar, and it forced a small smirk to grace the knight's face. It seemed to get to Aes as well, and though the angel said it would help break the armor in Alex had a feeling Aes wanted to see the warrior in action. And that was reason enough. "Can't disappoint the lovely lady, now. I'm in."

As Alex stretched out her hand to take the box, the man offering it to her merely smiled brightly as she reached out for the box, offering her no question as to why she'd made her decision and instead accepting her offering of five coins with his other hand. The box was warm to the touch, but not in an entirely pleasant way. It was the warmth of dragonfire, the same familiar but destructive flame that burned within her very soul, but it was contained, and she knew instinctively as she held the delicate wooden item that she couldn't open the box on her own without destroying it, even though the only thing holding it closed was a lightly tarnished brass clasp. Whatever magic kept the box closed also kept her from discovering what might lie within, at least not now, but a more in depth examination or the help of one more learned in enchanting might reveal more.

The dark skinned man with the strange accent and stranger garb allowed his smile to broaden as she asked what might happen if the box never opened, and he promptly replied; "Then you have bought a fancy trinket at a grand market while on the first leg of a long journey! A tale worthy of retelling and a box to remind you and your descendents of the person that acquired it, and the journey on which it was acquired!" He gave Alex a bow at the knees, his dark eyes never leaving hers, "May you have good fortune, Alexandra Alistair.... And may you find peace."

~~~~The Fool and the Pipe~~~~​

No objections came at Alex's request, and the waitress curtsied and replied; "Of course! A room with two beds would be five for the night, or you could get two single rooms for six, your choice. You can just pick a table and I'll come by with some menus in just a second!" She bustled off, and Aescila pointed to one of the small round tables in the middle of the room and said; "That one! There's plenty of surface area for us to enchant our pendants together~" Even if Alex didn't think that that sentence was strange, Angelle certainly did, as she immediately asked; "Pendants? Enchanting? How are we gonna do that?" Aescila smiled and held up a trio of gold pendants hanging from gold chains, each of them shaped like a heart, and said; "I bought these at the market, and figured we could put a little magic into them.... Just a little illusion, a picture of the three of us together, but a permanent one." She glanced at Alex while still holding her smile, "I know it's a little bit corny, but I figured it would be fun, and then we'd always be together even when we're apart!"

As they strode towards their table, Alex spotted a familiar face among the crowd of men, right in the center of them. Whether she turned to make sure or not, the man would bolt up from his stool in mid congratulation for some yet unknown honor. "Alex?" he said uncertainly, his gaze sweeping over her face. A moment later he seemed to be growing more sure of himself, as he then said somewhat more confidently; "Alexandra Alistair?" If Alex turned to examine the man, she would recognize him after a moment even though he was older; it was a soldier from the same mercenary company in which she'd once trained in the use of arms and armor, all those years ago. He'd joined shortly after she did, and both of them had been trained by the same man...

~~~~The Arena~~~~​

Aescila and the arena's doorman grinned broadly at Alex's request, but when the angel stepped forward as well the man furrowed his brow slightly and said; "I mean no offense, but... Well, I can taste the power comin offa you ma'am, and it's generally supposed to be a martial arena. 'Sides, while I don't doubt you two'd make a fine team, matches are all one on one today, and I'd hate to pit parents against one another!" Aescila was too surprised about his apparent knowledge of them to be disappointed.... At first, and that gave the man time to shrug and smile again, "Sorry, body language.... 'Sides, family of combatants spectate for free!" Aescila set aside her disappointment quickly enough, shrugging and adopting a smile as she turned to Alex and said; "Good luck! I'll be betting on you, so you'd better not lose~" She gave Alex a hug, and then Angelle stepped up and gave her an even tighter one, "Good luck mommy!"

With that, Alex temporarily parted ways with her family, stepping through the door next to the man and into the darkened pit beneath the arena while Aescila and Angelle headed off to the main entrance that would take them to the stands. A middle aged man in the uniform of a Therion guard stepped up next to her before she'd gone five steps and began to speak in a manner that suggested that he'd done this many times before, and was rapidly growing sick of it; "Alright, listen up. The rules are simple; you fight until your opponent's unconscious or surrenders, everything's done one on one, and you fight until you lose or you quit. You'll have to drop ten coin into the pot for entrance fee when you sign up, but for every fight you win your winnings double, starting at 10 coin. So, you win one fight, you make your money back. You win two fights, you get twenty, three fights, forty, and so forth.

"No offensive magic or ranged weapons are allowed, we don't want the crowd getting hurt by accident, and no calling up any friends. It's not sporting. That said, you can strengthen yourself if you've got the talent, though the crowd will appreciate a good fight over a one sided one. You'll have a few minutes to wait before your turn comes up, so feel free to practice or talk to the other contestants until then. When you get up there, your blade will be dulled with magic and there'll be healers standing by on the edge of the arena - this isn't Acheron, we don't want anybody getting killed in public! If you've got any questions about policy, talk to the register!" They reached a wide low chamber, almost so low that Alex might have had to stoop to keep her horns from scraping the ceiling if it were any lower, and he turned to her and offered her a smile as he said; "Good luck!"

The inside of the chamber had a desk with a jar, a sign up sheet, and a middle-aged woman with square spectacles and greying hair sitting behind it. She gave Alex a thin smile and gestured to the jar and the paper in turn, "Hubert explained pretty much all of the important stuff, entrance fee goes in there, sign here. Your name will be called when your turn comes up. Good luck!" The chamber had a wide ramp on the opposite side with an entrance that split in two ways, and a number of cubbies lining the walls containing humanoid practice dummies. Some of those were in use, but there were plenty empty spaces for her if she wanted to get in some practice before she was called to fight.

The chamber also contained a number of people, unsurprisingly. Along the wall behind the receptionists table was a man clad in black leather armor, two daggers at his belt while his glowing red eyes and demonic horns gave notice of his demonic blood. Further long the right, an elven man and woman in matching wooden armor sparred against a pair of practice dummies, each of them using a longsword in one hand while leaving the other free. Two cubbies down was a knight in full grey plate armor and a flowing green cape, the symbol of a twisting dragon embroidered in gold on its back, and he was steadily hammering a wooden practice dummy into splinters with his gauntlet-clad fists even though a greatsword hung over his back. In the center of the room were a number of tables, and at one sat a gigantic woman wearing little more than some fairly low cut, thick furs, her skin as red as Aecila's eyes and a massive club hanging from her back. Across from her sat an apparently human man wearing black chainmail, a smooth grin on his face and no apparent weapons about his person. At another table sat another human man, this one alone and wearing fairly patchwork armor and wielding a greatsword slung over his back. On the left side only two of the cubbies were occupied, one by a rough-looking human woman wielding a buckler and a shortspear and the other with a man with a fluffy tail poking out through a hole in the back of his pants who was bashing at the practice dummy with his bare hands.

Enchanted box... Hrm... Just touching the thing was enough to feel its enchantment. Her hands were warmed, but that warmth also held a promise of worse. She could feel destructive power contained within, the fire that powered her own soul smoldering a little stronger once it recognized a kindred spirit. She almost swore she could feel the dragon within her stirring to attention. It wanted to call out. It wanted to raise its voice, let loose a small shriek of challenge, wait for an answer to try and learn what possible creature could be sealed inside that box. But that urge passed in a second, and Alex was left wondering what it was that she just bought.

Following the mystic's rather simple answer Alex offered her own bow to answer the man's, but as she did she made sure to keep her eyes on him. Though she may be foolish enough to trust a total stranger she wasn't such a fool that she would completely drop her guard. But nothing else followed, and though her thoughts did linger on her new prize she still needed to find a gift for her parents. But she still didn't know what she wanted to get them. Time to wander aimlessly to see if anything stood out.


~~~~The Fool and the Pipe~~~~​

Hearing that a second room would only cost an additional coin Alex raised an eyebrow before looking at Aes. "That would give us some privacy..." There was absolutely no need to add a wink or a nudge for Alex's point to get across. "Angelle, would you like your own room?" Following the answer Aes pointed out a rather large table for them to take, and explaining her reason for choosing it had Alex smirking. "Corny it may be, but I understand." Her eyes fell to the ring on Aescila's finger before falling to one she wore, and though her own was a simple gold band compared to the ornate thing she had commissioned for Aes she knew she would never give it up. People simply loved to hold something that reminded them of the ones they loved.

As they made their way to Aescila's table they passed the soldiers, and a quick peek at the men turned into a lingering gaze. One of them looked familiar, though she couldn't quite put her finger on why, but a moment later he bolted upright as if he'd seen a ghost. He obviously recognized her, the use of her pet name was evidence enough, but even if he was uncertain at first the longer he looked over her the more recognition bloomed on his face. He called her again, this time using her full name, and she stopped and turned toward him with a look of concentration. After a bit it finally hit her. "William." Talk about a blast from the past. A bit of tension left her at that point. "This is a surprise. I never expected to meet anyone from the company after so many years! How ya been, boy?" It was a bit of a joke on her part. When he joined Roko's company he'd been older than her, but she showed far more maturity then he did at that age. And she used that to constantly egg him. It couldn't be helped. Soldiers always found someway to antagonize each other.


~~~~The Arena~~~~​

The same mix of surprise and disappointment bloomed on Alex's face to match the angel's, but the observation skills of the doorman combined with his excellent timing to leave her smirking once again. That was quickly followed by a hug from both Mate and daughter, and she returned those hugs as good as she got. "Like I said, can't disappoint the lovely lady, now. Can I?"

Parting ways to descend where the other combatants were obviously held, Alex didn't walk far before she was verbally assaulted by the guard. The poor man looked like he was getting tired of this spiel, but he continued and laid out the general rules and regulations for combat. Alex listened attentively, each restriction seeming to favor her preferred style of combat, and once he was done they came to the low ceiling that led toward the register. She offered her thanks to the man before they parted, and ducking her head a bit to fit her way through Alex was greeted by the receptionist. She returned the smile she was given, threw her entrance fee into the jar, signed her name, and finally entered the waiting room.

With the low roof still bothering her Alex merely decided to find an appropriate seat. Before she did she removed herself from the cloak she wore, and once she found a suitable place to hang it she eased herself onto a bench. Her gaze swept over the other participants, and judging by the looks of most of them she wouldn't have to worry too hard about giving the audience a good fight. Of course Mr. Patchwork Armor wasn't all that inspiring, but she wasn't going to count him out just yet. Making an assumption based solely on what you see was a sure path to defeat. It was one of Father's lessons. Or something similar to it. Of course she couldn't help but be drawn to the full-plate knight. "Excellent taste, Sir Knight." That was about as much as she was going to offer, and if the man didn't respond she would simply let him be. But she kept watching him and everyone else, hoping to learn something useful about each fighter before the matches started.

Her search for a gift for her parents offered Alex a number of options in the grand Trading Hall, but she managed to narrow it down some after a while. Her father, true to his draconic nature, had always hungered for shiny baubles - jewelry, gems, and the like. There were a number of shops selling such things about, but one stand had an amethyst carved in the shape of a rose bloom and set into a solid silver emplacement, life sized and in pristine condition at the cost of 40 denarii. There was also a replica of a wingless, serpentine dragon made out of jade on sale at the same place for 35, and a drake carved out of white quartz at another shop for 28.

Her mother had never been a particularly materialistic woman, but she had always liked fine clothes and exotic things, and such were also quite common in Therion's market. Kimonos made of pure spider-silk from the Amazon, available in a rainbow of colors, could be had for 20 denarii, or a fine royal robe in violet from a defunct Badarian noble house that bore an emerald symbol that was eerily similar to her own father's visage in dragon form could be had for 30. She could opt for gems or jewelry instead, as a pair of earrings made of gold and with three emeralds set into each were on sale at the same shop as a gold bracelet with battling dragons carved intricately into its surface, both of them available for 26 denarii. Finally, she'd also occasionally taken to perfumes, and a rare crystal bottle of an Amazonian perfume was available for 35 denarii.

Aescila returned her glance at the option for separate rooms, grinning. While their love life was hardly stagnant, the presence of Angelle had sometimes kept them from coupling, and they'd occasionally been forced to keep their sessions briefer or less intense than they might have liked for her. Even if they hadn't been slightly restricted since the birth of their daughter, Aescila had never shied away from a chance to have sex with Alex, whether that meant fucking like wild animals until they were both totally spent and satisfied or one of their more intimate lovemaking sessions. "My own room! In a tavern!" Angelle said shrilly, excitement bubbling in her voice as she jumped up and down, "Ohpleaseohplease can I have my own room! That'd be amazing!" She seemed for the idea, so Aescila handed the barmaid six coins and said; "Two singles for us then... For the little one of course~" Aescila put enough suggestiveness into her tone that the barmaid seemed to take the hint, and she smiled wryly back at the Aes as she took the offered coins, "Of course~"

William smiled broadly at Alex, not apparently bothered in the slightest by her use of his old pet name. "We'll be at the table while you too catch up!" Aescila said, and then led Angelle away so that Alex could speak to her old comrade in peace, as her daughter looked about ready to start a question bombardment. "I wasn't sure what'd become of you, so I'll say that I'm just as surprised to be seeing you again!" he replied as he stepped forward, reaching out a hand to her. If she clasped it the man would pull her into a one armed hug, a fairly customary sign of greeting among soldiers in Crolia. Whether she returned the gesture or not, he would then say; "I'm doing well... Quite well in fact!" He gestured to the insignia on his shoulders, which looked brand new and marked him as a corporal in the Therion guard. "Celebrating my promotion, and my engagement!" he added, and Alex noted the gold band that was wrapped around the appropriate finger.

Offering Alex a smirk, he said; "How about you, Scalytale?" William had generally responded to Alex's camaraderie in kind, and though he was no hero of legend he'd always been a steadfast soldier and friendly man in general. As such, while his nickname for her was perhaps a little bit derogatory given her heritage, the mutual respect that had built between them had allowed her to stomach it. One of the other men behind William laughed at her pet name, however, and said; "Scalytail? Musta done a lot of starin at her bum, huh Bill? Ever get to cop yerself a handful?" Him and the other men that had been with William laughed, though the man himself turned a scowl upon his comrades. Before he could open his mouth to speak, however, the speaker continued; "You oughta come to 'is bachelor party, "Scalytale," we'd all like to see what you've got underneath that armor!"

The other men chuckled again, and if Alex didn't offer a retort immediately, William would scowl and speak in a commanding tone that she'd never heard from him before; "Shut your mouths. Now." Perhaps more surprising, if Alex chose not to act first, would be their reaction; they all fell silent instantly, their grins vanishing into stoic masks and remaining as such even after he turned back to her and said; "I'm sorry about that... Would you care to speak away from the peanut gallery here for a moment?"

~~~~The Arena~~~~​

The knight turned away from the battered dummy, lowering his fists and facing her squarely, even removing his helmet to reveal his face. He was thin, but had high, pronounced cheekbones that gave him a look that was both honorable and cheerful, and had short salt-and-pepper hair on top of his head that had only receded slightly, and a bushy mustache of the same color. "My thanks, and returned in full milady!" he said cheerfully, smiling in a friendly manner and offering her a quick bow. After he straightened he held out a hand and continued; "Sir Gregor Andrast, at your service!" Pausing to give Alex a chance to introduce herself in turn, if she didn't ask a question of her own, or after he'd answered hers if she did, he would ask; "What brings you to the arena on this fine day?"

Meanwhile, she was close enough to listen in on the conversation between the large red woman and the sly man in black armor, who was the one doing most of the speaking; "So you haven't learned anything then?" he mused quietly, "You've had over two weeks to try and get into the barrow and retrieve the artifact, but you haven't even gotten through the front door yet.... I have to say that my employer will not be pleased. They may be forced to withdraw their offer if it takes you much longer to make any progress..." The red woman didn't seem particularly impressed by the man, however, as she grumbled back; "They've got no right to grumble, no one else they've hired has done any better! That dragon isn't exactly a pushover, and he shows up whenever I try to get near the place. Damn near killed me last time we tussled, so I'll have to find another approach. Don't worry, your boss'll get his damned trinket! And when I do, he'd better deliver on what he promised, or I'll be taking it to a smelters rather than to his estate!" The man scowled at the threat, but seemed to think better of antagonizing a woman that was nearly twice his size, as he then said; "I'm only looking out for my master's investment, don't feel pressured! And I assure you that you'll be rewarded as agreed once you acquire what he needs... My master prefers to keep good relations open between himself and those able to get things done for him. Do the job, and there should be plenty more paying work for you in the future!" He stood up and made to leave the arena, drawing an annoyed look from the receptionist, but she crossed off his name rather than call out after him.

With certain options catching her eye Alex took a moment to ponder her choices. For Father the jade dragon and the quartz drake had their own special flare that Aureus would most likely appreciate, but it's been done before. Multiple times. Looking back it felt like everyone and their mother managed to get a hold of some draconic piece of art to present to Father whenever they came baring gifts. He enjoyed them all the same, but bringing something like that felt...pedestrian. She was his daughter. More would be expected, so she turned toward the rose. A perfectly cut amethyst housed in solid silver, Alex briefly considered buying it for Aes. But Father would definitely appreciate it even if it didn't stoke his ego. More than likely he's appreciate it even more

When it came time to choose Mother's gift Alex didn't find her attention focusing on any specific thing. She was never one to bother with hard material wealth, but even the most frugal of souls would indulge themselves from time to time. For Mother that usually meant exotic clothing. The kimonos from the Amazon fit that bill, especially since trade with that region was starting to decline, but the violet robe with the emerald crest had a certain flair that couldn't be denied. Especially since it resembled Father. Some jewelry fought for attention as well, as did a crystal bottle filled with perfume, but Alex found herself drawn to the clothing more than anything else. And of those two choices that robe kept calling out to her. Second-hand as it was the crest it bore was simply too uncanny a resemblance. Mother would love it for that fact alone.

Alex couldn't help smiling at her daughter's enthusiasm and the suggestive tone that hinted at what was in store tonight, so she was in a rather good mood when she found William. It only improved when he offered his hand, and Alex readily took it and let herself descend into the hug. "Well well, rank and a wife! And I bet she's a lovely one! Congratulations are definitely in order!" Even if he wasn't the greatest of soldiers he was still a thoroughly good man, so seeing that he found himself some happiness left Alex smiling warmly at him, even after he smirked out her pet name.

But that all came to a quick stop when one of his soldiers started throwing it around. She slowly turned toward him, her eyes narrowing slightly, and by the time his crass suggestion filled the air she was giving him a stare with such murderous intent that it was a miracle he didn't simply burst into flames. But before she could act she was surprised to find Will speaking with such a commanding presence. He ordered his men to shut their mouths, and it was said with such finality that they all complied without a moment's hesitation.

When he asked her if she wanted to speak a little more privately she held up a finger to ask him to wait. She never dropped her death glare, and once she was sure she had the offending soldier's attention she slowly started walking around to him. Every step sounded with the armor she wore, a heavy thunk spreading through the near silence as she made her way closer. Once she was towering over him she leaned in close, her face no more than a couple inches from his, and at that range he wouldn't fail to notice the heat suddenly pouring off of her body. It wasn't enough to cause anyone any true discomfort, but the promise of something far worse was still there. "Will and I have fought side by side. He's earned the right to use that name. You have not, so you will address me accordingly..." She rose to her full height, her imperious presence hanging over them all. "...as MISS Scalytail. Understood?" Though her tone didn't change much the threatening air that hung around her peeled back a bit. But even if her reply wasn't completely serious there was the sense that he would only get away with using that word one more time, and only with the appropriate title in front.

With that settled she turned back toward William and took a few seconds to throw off the last bit of animosity hanging onto her. "I'll gladly take you up on your offer, Will." She then motioned over toward the table where Aes and Angelle sat. "Care to meet my family?"


~~~~The Arena~~~~​

With Sir Gregor offering a bow and then his hand Alex returned the bow and gave him her own. "Lady Alexandra Alistar of the Hidden Village." With introductions out of the way she paused a bit to consider his question. "At first I was simply sight-seeing with the family, but the doorman and my Mate convinced me to enter. What about you?" Though her attention was focused on the knight she still caught the conversation happening between the red woman and the black armored man. The mention of a dragon immediately caught her curiosity, and by the sounds of it this woman was being hired to steal something from a possible cousin. At that point Alex was determined to keep an eye on the furred woman. Hopefully she would stay within the matches long enough for Alex to face her. Then she could answer a few questions.

The smile on William's face at Alexandra's congratulations was stolen by his comrade's rudeness, but the lot of them kept silent and still after the soldier's order to do so. Their faces, particularly that of the speaker, were completely stoic as she made her slow approach, and when she straightened Alex stood a good bit taller than any one of them, including the man that she now faced. As she drew nearer Alex could easily smell the cloying scent of alcohol on their breaths, and a good number of them had slightly flushed cheeks despite their efforts to remain stoic in the face of the dark-haired, heavily armored dragoness now bearing down on them. They managed to keep a straight face even after her somewhat less-serious conclusion, though the man standing most directly in front of her allowed his lip to twitch upwards just slightly. "Understood, ma'am" he replied promptly, his voice respectful to the point that it was almost formal.

Will grinned brilliantly at the offer to go and meet her family, not apparently finding it odd at all, and said; "I'd love to! Maybe I can introduce you to my fiancee later, eh? Will you be staying in Therion long?" He walked beside her over to the table, where Aes was examining the menu and Angelle was dangling the three pendants that her father had bought from the fingers of her right hand, both of her wings watching the jewelry as well. "William, I presume~" Aescila said as the pair came close, rising to shake the man's hand as Will nodded and replied; "That'd be correct, ma'am. And you are?" A twinkle appeared in Aescila's eye, one that Alex hadn't seen in a fairly long time - the look she got when a new prey item had just entered her field of view. She hadn't had to feed on anyone besides Alex over the last two years, though she'd occasionally joined Alex and Kimi in their sessions and gotten to feed off of the draconic succubus as well. Even so, Aescila had never objected to that in the slightest, though her succubus instincts had occasionally given her urges as they were doing right now.

"Aescila... Alexandra's Mate~" she offered, using both Alex's name and their title with the respect that she always showed them. "Old war buddies, I assume?" she added, and William nodded, "We trained and fought together under Commander Roko in the Silver Legion. I haven't seen her in a long time though!" Aescila grinned, but a tiny flash in her eyes told Alex that the fallen angel had recognized the name. She'd told the fallen angel about the man before, of course, and their soul bonding had left no secrets between the two, exposing Alex to the horrors that Aescila had suffered and giving her lover a view of her abuse in turn, but they had also shared their happier memories, including Alex's recollections of her time with her first love. "Speaking of! Have you been to see him yet?" William added suddenly, grinning as he looked at Alex once again.

~~~~The Arena~~~~​

"Ahhh, first time in Therion then? There's no city to compare!" Sir Gregor replied first, and then he cheerfully added; "Oh I haven't seen any decent battles lately, and thought I could use a spot of practice!" After a moment's pondering the knight added; "I suppose that means we'll likely be opponents at some point, and I wish you the best of luck Lady Alistair!" The red-skinned woman, in the meantime, was sitting on the bench by herself, largely ignoring the rest of the fighters in the place, Alex included.

A loud roar from the arena outside suddenly erupted, the crowd going wild, and a few moments later an unconscious man was carried through the doorway. "Sir Gregor! Sir Gregor Andrast! Report to the arena floor!" the receptionist called, and the knight turned to Alex and said; "My turn's come up, it seems! Good luck once more, Lady Alexandra! If we meet in battle, know that I will face you as honor demands!" He bowed again before replacing his helmet upon his head, and took up a wide kite shield that had been lying next to his alcove as he started heading towards the ramp that led out into the arena. That left Alex alone and free to pursue conversation with other fighters, or to simply wait until her name was called.

"We didn't plan on staying long. Just for the night, maybe until midday tomorrow. I'm on my way to visit my Father. Of course I don't have any plans for later tonight..." She moved a little closer and whispered. "...At least none that I'm sharing with my daughter~" And then she spoke normally once more. "So if we have some time I wouldn't mind introducing myself."

William nodded along to her statement, showing only minor disappointment, but when she leaned in and issued her whisper he smirked even as a bit of color appeared on his cheeks, "Going to be having a good night then eh?" he whispered back, and when she edged away again he said aloud; "Well we'll have to do it tomorrow then, won't we?" he said back, "If you're gonna be staying here, I'll come and find you in the morning and treat you to breakfast if you like... Or I can come later and we can do lunch."

There was a bit of a conspiratorial smile on Alex's face, but she didn't answer his question concerning what would happen tonight. "Breakfast sounds lovely."

Once everyone was seated Aescila welcomed William with a look that did not go unnoticed by Alexandra's eye. And it caused her to smirk. Aes liked him. More accurately she was attracted to him. She had that predatory look in her eye, the one that she and Kimi shared whenever they could tell Alex was in a certain mood. But past the smirk Alex didn't react. She'd never deny Aes her hunger or her need to feed, and though Aes always came to her she made it clear one day that should Aes need someone else's attention she was free to act.

But all that came to a sudden stop. "Him? Him who..." A thought suddenly bubbled up into Alex's mind. She suddenly took a far more serious tone, but she waited for Will to answer.

"Roko of course! You didn't know?" he replied excitedly, a broad smirk on William's face. "We found him, a couple years ago!"

"No... I didn't... I was..." It was few and far between when Alex looked hopelessly lost, and this was one of those times. A part of her looked like she wanted to rise up and find Roko immediately, while another was simply too dumbstruck to even speak let alone move.

"Yeah... I tried to send you a letter, but I guess it never got to you. We found him in a slave camp, he was.... Pretty banged up, but after a while he started getting better." He paused, his smile fading a little, "He asked about you, but none of us had seen you in a long time... He's in Ochre now, a village about sixty miles North East." In the opposite direction of her destination, and well out of her way if she wanted to see her parents. Aescila had noted the look on Alex's face, and come up beside her and clasped her hand, giving what comfort she could. Angelle suddenly spoke up from the table; "Who's Roko, Mommy?" William glanced at her daughter, and while he hadn't seemingly been particularly bothered by Alex or even by Aescila, Angelle with her two opposite-colored wings and the faces that were currently present on both seemed to have him fairly put-off.

She still didn't know what to think. He was alive. He was near. And he was in the complete opposite direction she was heading. There was no doubt that they could reach Ochre, but... Angelle's voice cut through her thoughts. "He was..." She paused again, her mind convinced of his death for so long that it had trouble realizing he was alive. And now that he was she didn't know how to think of him. The flame was still there. Muted, definitely not as strong as the inferno she felt for Aes, but some part of her would always be devoted to him. Would it still hold that same devotion if they met after all this time? "He was my first love." Her hand tightened around Aes's. "He helped me when my heart was nearly broken, but he disappeared a long time ago."

Angelle didn't seem to understand, "Where did he go? Did he not love you back?" Aes' hand tightened back around Alex's, and she said; "Of course he did Angelle, but he was taken away, and Mommy couldn't find him." That seemed to settle her daughter, who suddenly looked sad, and stood up to give her mother a soft hug. William stood in the background, apart and slightly uncomfortable in the family scene. "He'd like to see you," the soldier said softly, "That much I'm sure of... But I don't think he's going anywhere. If you've got other business to take care of, he'd understand. Its already been how many years, right?"

Alex gave her daughter a soft pat when she was hugged, and William's words gave her a little bit of help. "Then... Then I'll go see him. It may not happen now, or soon, but I'll definitely see him." Although it didn't seem right to make him wait all this time just to see her again Alex felt her responsibility to her family was more important. She needed to bridge this gap to her past, even if she didn't exactly know why. It was simply something that was far more important than anything else.

William nodded solemnly, "I won't spoil his surprise by telling him you're coming.... But I know he'd want to see you again, even after all this time." Aescila smoothed an arm down Alex's back gently, still gripping her hand, and gave Alex a hopeful expression. They would be with her, that look said... Aescila and Angelle would be with her, no matter what.

Alex took a deep breath in response to it all, and once she calmed down a bit she looked toward Will. "My apologies. I'm afraid I won't be a very lively guest for a while. You should probably head back to your men. I've killed the mood enough as it is." Before he left Alex dug into her coin purse and pulled out five to hand to her comrade. "Buy a round for them. On me. No hard feelings."

"It's no fuss.." Will said softly, frowning as he hesitantly took the offered coin, "I'd hoped you'd be happier at the good news, to be honest... But I guess I can understand. Old wounds opened up and whatnot." He glanced at the coins in his hand and scowled for a second before allowing his expression to soften as he looked back up at her, "They aren't bad men, just a bit rowdy..... We've been here a while." He stepped up and offered a hand to shake, hugging her again over Angelle if she took it, and as he stepped away he said; "Take care of yourself Alex. I'll be here tomorrow morning." And then Alex and her family were alone again, and Aes gently guided Alex into a chair, while she sunk into the one on her left and Angelle returned to the one on her right.

"I am happy. Had I known he was alive before the invasion two years ago I would have dropped everything and run right into his arms." If Will looked hard enough he could see the ghost of joy swimming behind her eyes. "But you're right. And things have changed." But it was also mournful, the happiness that could have been stolen in a night and not allowed to flourish and never could now that she had a family. "It's okay. I know how rowdy men can get." At that she offered an honest smile. "Just help them realize what they did." Alex rose herself to accept her friend's hug, and as he left she simply bowed her head in acknowledgment of what he said. Following that Aes led her into a chair, and Alex graciously accepted the help before plopping down and letting out a large sigh. "Let's wait on enchanting those lockets until after lunch. I'll feel a little better with some food in my stomach."

"Alright," Aescila said with a bit of forced cheer, "They've got a lot on offer here, but I guess you could probably use a drink, eh?" Aescila nodded to the serving girl, who nodded back and came up, "What can I get you?" Angelle immediately said; "Milk!" Aescila smiled and said; "Two meads for the lady and I, if you please." The girl nodded and departed again, and while they waited Aescila quietly said; "So.... After your parents then? I can port us back here, at the very least. That should cut down on our travel time unless you want to call Abariel and see if she's been to Ochre before."

Alex nodded her head once more, this time in acceptance of what had been ordered. "Yes. Once we're done we can head out and find him. And coming back here will be enough. It wouldn't feel right to call Abariel just for that."

"Fair enough..... I know how important this is to you Alex," her lover replied, softly gripping her hand beneath the table and looking her in the eyes. Aescila had felt what Alex felt for Roko, and though they weren't her own emotions the once-demon could at least empathize with her plight, that much was plain from the slightly pained look in her eyes. A wry grin came over Aescila's face, "If he's as much of a womanizer as you remember, I'm sure we could find a way to make for a memorable reunion~" her expression became serious again, and she gave Alex's hand a squeeze, "But I'd understand if you would rather make those memories for yourself... You know where I stand on that, and whatever makes you happy makes me happy." The serving girl was back with their drinks a moment later, and Aescila offered her tankard to Alex in a toast.

Alex offered a wry grin of her own at Aescila's offer. "We'll see what happens when the time comes. But thanks, I really appreciate you being here for me." By then her drink had come, and a moment later she was meeting Aes's tankard with her own. She didn't have much to say, so whatever toast would have to be given by her lover. But she raised her glass all the same, and it was offered to Angelle as well should the girl give her that slightly pouty look that only came when she felt like she was being left out.

Angelle did indeed hold that look, and Aescila giggled lightly as she offered her glass to her daughter as well just after Alex's mug had clinked againt the glass of milk their daughter had. The toast was left unsaid, however, and after being given a few moments to look over the menu and sip at her fairly good draft of mead the serving girl came back, "Have you decided what you'd like for lunch?" Angelle immediately said; "Ribs!" Aescila frowned, and Alex might as well after seeing that such was the most expensive thing on the menu, before the fallen angel said; "Trout, if you please."

"Trout as well..." Alex hadn't immediately reacted to Angelle's choice, but once the serving girl was gone she pulled herself a little closer to Angelle. Or more specifically to the white wing that was right next to her. "Undine..." It wasn't something she did often, but Alex had spoken to each of those wings before. And Undine, unlike her dark sister, understood discretion, especially when Alex kept her voice down. "Did Necro nudge Angelle toward the ribs?" She wasn't too concerned about the price, but it was still something that made Alex curious. Perhaps it was time to start teaching the girl the value of money...

The serving girl nodded and took their menus, promising a quick delivery of their food. "Yes.... I wanted a salad!" Undine replied quietly, while Angelle was seemingly oblivious as Necro whispered into her ear.

Heh. Somehow Alex wasn't surprised. And with Undine's attention now on Alex the dark wing was taking full advantage and most likely conspiring to start something. "Just keep an eye on them and warn me if she could get into any real trouble."

"I'll do my best!" the kinder spirit in Angelle's wing replied cheerfully, and then it went in to do much the same as Necro, which only made Angelle look extremely conflicted. A few moments later their food arrived, and where the mead had been good the food was incredible, rich and soft and cooked to perfection.

Poor girl. No wonder everyone called her 'Dizzy'. She looked like she was trying to split her attention three ways, and her eyes were darting back and forth. Alex reached over and gave her daughter a reassuring back rub, and that was when the food arrived. And just as she said she felt much better, especially once she noticed the obvious skill put into its preparation. "My compliments to your chef!" Once everyone was finished and the table was cleared Alex laid her arms down. "All right, how does this enchanting thing work?"

The serving girl smiled happily at Alex's compliment when she came to take their cleaned plates, while Angelle - who had seemingly stabilized somewhat courtesy of her back-rub - now had a face covered in sauce. "It's pretty simple really, we just have to decide on an image and magically inscribe it on the amulet. Creshnibon taught you illusions right? You're basically doing that but making it permanent.... With one of these!" Aescila explained, holding out a trio of small pearls that were imbued with magic. "Place this over the locket and cast the spell, and the pearl will disintegrate and cause the spell to become permanent inside of the locket." Aescila demonstrated on her own, an act that took mere seconds, and then showed Alex an image sitting in the locket as if it were a picture; of the three of them standing together, Angelle in the middle and Alex and Aes on either side of their daughter, all hugging while the three of them smiled happily. It was an excellent representation, almost lifelike enough that Alex thought it might be able to move.

"Wasn't all that great with the illusions..." Alex said as she watched Aes perform the spell while blindly offering a napkin to her messy little girl. Once the demonstration was complete Alex took a look at the pearl. "Can they be reused if I happen to make a mistake?"

"Nah, once they're inscribed that's pretty much it. Want me to guide you through it?"

"Please." Alex carefully followed her lover's instructions, her mind focusing on the image in her head before trying to draw in the smaller details. And strangely enough that image had all five members of Alex's family present. Like Aes's picture she stood on one side of her daughter while her Mate stood on the other, but instead of cradling their daughter they left enough space for both wings to show clearly and the opposing spirits to show themselves. And though they all gave her a headache from time to time, especially that demon, Alex still loved them all the same.

"Concentrate on the image you want..." Aes said, and then gently rubbed her hands over Alex's temples. She felt the angel enter her mind, a gentle and inobtrusive mental embrace to guide her through the spellcasting that would inscribe that image onto the locket, and with Aescila's help she was able to accomplish the magic with ease. When she was done, that picture was perfectly inscribed into the metal just as it had appeared in her head. Aescila smiled at it and then moved to help Angelle, who still looked lost. Her image was the most crude of the three, the proportions slightly off on certain things, but it was good enough that Alex recognized herself as she laid in the center of the three, the wings of both her daughter and her lover wrapped around her as they all smiled together.

There was something about finding herself at the center of Angelle's picture that cut through any lingering doubt or melancholy that Alex had, and she hugged the girl tight and gave her a little peck on the cheek to show her thanks. "All right, who's ready to go tackle the Arena?"

"I am!" Angelle replied excitedly, despite her tiredness, and Aescila paid for their meal and drinks, leaving a six denarii tip before departing.

"Thanks, and the same to you, Sir Gregor. And don't worry. If we happen to end up facing each other..." At this point the warrior's grin turned more feral. "...I'll be sure to give you all the practice you'll need." Soon after the roar of the crowd led to some unconscious man being carried into the waiting room, and with that match apparently done it was time to start the next. Alex rose to see him off, even if her horns slightly scraped at the ceiling. "I expect nothing less, Sir Gregor." She nodded her head in response to his bow, and once he was out she sat herself back down.

There were other fighters to speak with if she felt so inclined, but she did not. There were also the practice dummies the others were using to hone their skills before their matches. Alex could have used any of those if she felt so inclined, but again she did not. Instead she started slowing stretching out all her limbs, her muscles being forced to loosen and relax as she systematically made herself just a tad more limber. And she would keep this up until her name was called. Of course if anyone else wished to speak with her she would address them, but she wasn't about to interrupt any of her fellow competitors.

And then, Alex was alone in the arena, Sir Andrast having departed for the arena itself. She was left alone, though as she limbered up Alex realized that she had eyes on her. The man in scrappy armor and the large crimson-skinned woman were both watching her intently, but for fairly different reasons. The man was watching her in a fairly observant manner, almost as if he were sizing her up, but the large woman was watching her in a manner that displayed a very different sort of interest. Regardless of her reaction to the looks she received while stretching, she had a short while to wait before her turn in the arena came up, and before her came another call from the receptionist following another roar from the crowd above; "Andreus! Andreus Caviston!" The man with the fox-like tail and ears went up to the arena floor, and then followed another short wait before the crowd roared once more.

"Korik! Selvig Korik!" the receptionist called, but this time there was no response from anyone inside. She repeated the call somewhat agitatedly, and now some of the other contestants were glancing across one another. After a third repetition the woman glanced at her list, and then looked up and shouted; "Alistar! Alexandra Alistar!" When Alex went up to the ramp, she noted that the man being carried past her wasn't Sir Andrast, and when she came out into the daylight once more she found the knight clad in full armor, his large blade held in one hand while the other held his shield. The crowd roared in greeting as the emerald-clad dragoness stepped out into the light, and she spotted Aescila and Angelle in the front few rows with ease. They were relatively isolated, though whether that was because of their unusual appearance, Aescila's dark presence, or simply because people didn't want their vision blocked by their wings was impossible to tell from the arena floor.

Both were clapping and cheering energetically, but Alex's gaze was then drawn to the source of an announcement, a richly decorated booth set just above the arena entrance that contained a handful of people. The first and most prominent was a mage in blue robes, standing at the front of the group and calling out in a booming voice that was clearly subject to magical amplification; "And now we have it! Two knights, armed and armored as is befitting a warrior of station, set to face one another in honorable combat!" The crowd cheered on, allowing Alex a moment to observe the other occupants. Most prominently seated was a portly man with rich black and purple clothes and thinning blond hair, who sat in a finely crafted but not extravagant oak chair. Beside him in the position traditionally occupied by a noble's wife sat a similarly clad woman, also showing her age by the grey mixed in with her jet-black hair, but still made attractive by the dignity with which she held herself even if she could more accurately be called handsome than pretty.

Arrayed around the two were a group of six guards in decorated black armor, the symbol of a raven with its wings spread set against a violet backdrop embroidered on the cloth worn over their armor. Among them, however, was a single man who drew Alexandra's eye immediately, his presence overwhelming even that of the wizard who stoked the crowd with his enchanted voice. Red steel coated his body from head to toe, leaving not an inch of flesh visible, and a greatsword nearly as long as he was tall - impressive given that he reached at least to seven feet in his armor - hung over his back. Deadly power, both of the body that she could see through her physical eyes and and of the spirit that could only be felt, emanated from him almost like a magical aura.

Alex wasn't given long to contemplate the figures overseeing the arena battles, however as the announcer called out; "Which of these two great warriors will come out the victor? Let skill decide!" Looking down at Alex and seemingly speaking to her then, he called down; "You may begin once your blades have been enchanted so that you can't kill each other!" Two of the mages who stood around the arena stepped forth, and one cast a pair of spells on Alex, affecting both her sword and her shield, so that neither could rend flesh or shatter bones as they might normally. Even apart from her own rushing adrenaline, Alex felt a strange, almost alien eagerness rising within her as Sir Gregor Andrast prepared himself for battle across from her. Once the mages were finished, their swords and shields each glowed with protective magics that would keep their blows less than lethal even with the considerable enchantments laid upon her sword.

"I will keep my word, Lady Alistar!" the knight called proudly from about twenty feet away from her, "An honorable battle, against a worthy opponent!" The knight began to glow with a soft, blue haze, leaving his outline indistinct and his presence magnified, and Alex had a moment to prepare herself before the battle began.

(Alex has a round to buff before the battle starts. Attacks made deal 1/2 damage AFTER AV is factored in, but her sword still has all of its enchantments.)

Don't mean to be rude, but you should check my sheet and pay a little more attention to Alex's last name.

Living two years amidst a nearly insatiable demon-born lover and an equally lusty cousin had foundered an ability to know exactly when someone was eying the dragon-knight's body. And as Alex stretched she felt a pair of eyes watching her every move. Make that two. The man in the second-hand armor was taking the chance to observe with an almost analytical curiosity. And Alex praised him for it. Though the man seemed somewhat scruffy he was showing the foresight to gauge each of his possible opponents as they went around preparing for their upcoming matches. He was studying everyone in an effort to learn their strengths, and though he looked no more than a common mercenary he was showing a shrewd, strategic mind. And perhaps that in itself was a part of his strategy. Alex was going to need to keep an eye out for this one...

And then there was the second pair of eyes. Those belonged to the giant woman in red. And those shared a rather familiar...appreciation that Alex had come to recognize from Aes and Kimi. The kind that would make the proud dragon coyly stretch just that little bit farther, enough to give her admirer a view without looking all that overt. The kind that would more than likely promise a rather interesting night should Alex choose to look the woman in the eyes. And though the dragon chose to remain aloof she smirked a little to herself. The demonic-looking woman obviously had good taste. Perhaps that could be used when they managed to face each other in the arena...

The roar of the crowd signaled the foxman's foray into battle, and a short time later another roar rang through the air. A name was called, and it went unanswered. Another call proved no better, and after a third it was obvious the man would not show. Thus did Alexandra's name rise into the air. She answered immediately, and as she walked up the ramp her neck popped a couple times now that she finally had proper room to stand straight and tall. Damned low ceilings...

Once she stepped out into the light a number of things jumped out at her. First and foremost was the crowd's rather raucous greeting. It was punctuated by the sight of Sir Andrast awaiting her arrival. Not wanting to disappoint the good man she immediately started walking forward to meet him. As she did she spied Aes and Angelle quite easily. They were their own little cheering section, and as they waved and hollered Alex gave them a small salute. A moment later a mage called out to the crowd, his enhanced voice grabbing their attention and crying out the match to come to encourage his audience to cheer that much louder. And surrounding this man Alex found the nobility presiding over the arena. The nobleman obviously enjoyed a life of luxury, and though his wife was aging she held a poise and dignity that matched well with her handsome features.

Alex offered them a respectful nod as she entered, but even then her eyes focused on someone that stood behind them. Most of the guards surrounding them wore full black plate, the raven crest on a violet field showing their affiliation even if Alex knew nothing of them, but one stood out. It wasn't the crimson armor he wore that hid his entire body from view. It wasn't the massive sword that stood as tall as he. It was what she couldn't see. She could feel the power pouring off of him, a strength that promised death and destruction and was far, far greater than the mage that riled the crowd.

Though she wondered what kind of monstrosity could lie beneath all that plate Alex wasn't given much time before the mage spoke and declared when the match would start. It was a signal to have her present her arms, and she did willingly as a pair of mages sprang forth to enchant her weapons and remove their lethal intent. Once that was done Alex turned her attention back to her opponent and the proclamation that followed. A haze settled over him, a light blue aura that slightly concealed him while magnifying his presence. He was a man who could call upon his own spiritual power, and at seeing that Alex knew how she would answer. "I thank you, Sir Gregor, and I hope to give you the excitement you seek!"

Whenever Alex called on her own inner strength she could feel the dragon within her bellow in acknowledgement, its fire burning brighter within her body and forcing a blast of heat to spread all around. The same happened now, a rush of heated air that blew past everyone on the arena floor, but this felt more refined. Controlled. Nothing more than a small wave that ruffled the robes of the mages and slight haze that clung to Andrast. But once people turned to its source they would see something different. Alex was now hunched forward slightly, her body balancing on the balls of her feet while her tail swayed back and forth slightly behind her. Her entire stance looked more feral, more like an animal preparing to hunt, and with her scales spreading to encase more of her body the sudden appearance of reptilian eyes made her transformation all that more drastic.

Use Draconic Transformation X=5, Upkeep = 0 for:
