"A shower...Ha!" Rick said laughing as he pushed a bowl of porridge at her from across the same table they had shared yesterday. "They tell a legend of a place that still has hot showers, a place of magic and wonder, called the city municipal pool. Its about 5 miles that way" he said pointing to the west. "Many have gone in search of such a pleasure~ None have returned~!" He said doing a pretty amusing mock ghost voice as he ate. "A cold shower will probably cost you a handful of bullet casings, or food you manage to find."

Vilana was in no mood for the mocking legend, eating the gruel before her eyes shot wide and she looked up at Rick. She slammed her hands down on the table in exasperation. "I have to pay for a shower?!?" She cried in a shrill tone.

Rick snickered, expecting the reaction. "We all do, that's drinking water you're bathing in and it's expensive given the river is poisoned." He said raising an eyebrow. "The simple comforts you were used to? Those were gone awhile ago, sorry to say."

Vilana sighed and collapsed back into her seat, resigned. "This turned out to be much more than I bargained for..." She gathers her thoughts, then narrows her eyes. "What exactly is poisoning the river anyway?" She asked, finishing off the porridge.

"Brimstone, ash, sewage, its become an acidic cesspool that takes a great deal of effort to purify, we have people guarding the plant, and that's where the brunt of the found ammunition goes as the demons try to starve us out." Rick said quietly, finishing his meal. "Well, I have guard duty again today, talk to you later." He said, standing and heading out, pulling his facemask down.

Vilana stands up, holding a hand out. "Wait! Ah, well, how can I help out? I mean I'd like my life to get easier too, so..." She let the sentence trail off, not sure how to word her request to get any more specific.

"Keep working!" Rick called back, waving to her and leaving her on her own. It would probably take a little more then barely surviving unscathed with some decent salvage for them to start giving Vilana more specific work, and she could hardly blame them given the state of things.

Vilana huffed a little, and gathered her gear, and proceeded to the flats again. She looked up at the towering apartment complex, and stepped inside, again skulking through the dark in hopes of finding more items and more answers.

The first floor still appeared to be clear, and there were 6 rooms to check, the body of the man she had shot missing, although the blood smears suggesting that something had eaten it. Heading further in, Vilana noticed that many of the rooms had been pretty thoroughly picked over, but two were still well locked. She could probably break them down if she wanted to.

Vilana moved to the first one, and pressed an ear to the door, listening intently for anything shifting around inside, then lifted her hatchet and swung at the door to break it down.

Vilana didn't hear anything through the heavy door, and a few well placed swings later it swung open. The sight that greeted her probably revealed why it hadn't been opened, someone had known something she didn't. Inside it looked mostly untouched, apart from the bright red lettering along the walls. "The end is here, they have come. Repent... Repent."

It was everywhere, on every wall and most surfaces, written mostly in paint, though some of the stains showed a far darker crimson that didn't age well at all and smelled of blood. It seemed like whoever had left here had done so in a hurry after smearing their message.

Stasia stumbles into the room with the final swing, then looks around. She covers her face with a hand, screwing up her face. "Ah Jeez! Well, if it's locked, means no one has been in here..." She looks back at the door with some regret, as now she can't search the room peacefully. She takes her time to be quiet, searching through it as she wrings the handle of her hatchet.

Inside there isn't much, the people, or person, or nutcase that had lived here before everything went to shit being pretty thorough about cleaning their place out. What Vilana did find however, was 5 or 6 cans of good food, half a bag of rice, and a reloading bench. The bench itself was broken, next to useless, but what wasn't useless at all was a quarter pound of gunpowder, and several large bags of empty casings in 9mm and .45ACP, and the lead hollowpoints to go with them. It was quite the find all in all, the casings even already had the primers set. You had to love crazy people some days.

Vilana's eyes fall upon the reloading bench and the materials with voracious greed. She can't help but let out a squeal of success as she slips the backpack off of her shoulders and begins sliding all the found goods into her backpack. No doubt it will fill it almost completely full, but then her trip will be short and rewarding! She throws the backpack onto her back again and spins around with a hop, speed walking to the door.

Loading everything up didn't take all the long, but then Vilana learned the consequences of making too much noise as something thick and red dropped down from the door frame in front of her. It was the goofiest thing she had ever seen, and it still made her nervous. Round, jiggly, undulating slowly towards her, was what looked like a living ball of translucent slime.

Vilana almost walked into the slime thing! She reacted off of gut from the movement and lept back, wielding the hatchet. She looked around, trying to find an alternative exit, while waiting for it to close the distance for her chance to swing and strike first!

Vilana waited for it, and it slid across the floor towards her, about 2 foot tall and 3 across. Striking down with her hatchet, Vilana found out that blades and living goo didn't get along all that well as the blade slid right into the slime, only to have the hatched pulled out of her hand, even as thick tendrils of the slime coiled around her wrist, and snared one of her ankles, trying to drag her towards it, the creature far stronger then it looked.

Vilana's eyes widened as she felt the sudden give of the hatchet from her grasp. She turned to try and flee further back and think of something else, but found herself bound by the tendrils! She grunted, glaring and yanking at the appendages that gripped her, trying to rip herself free of the embrace, and get further away from the oncoming slime!

Vilana's pulling and twisting, trying to get away from the creature didn't amount for much as her other wrist was caught and pulled wide, the slime securing its grip on the three limbs by twining further up them and pulling her closer to it's main body that started to ripple and shift excitedly, it's efforts redoubling as it found it's prey falling under it's physical control.

Vilana's eyes widened in panic as she began to thrash, digging her boots into the ground as she yanked on her limbs. She hoped her footing didn't fail her as she leaned away from the slime and contracted every muscle that would help her break free. She gritted her teeth and clenched her eyes tight, focusing on ripping away from the slime. The feel of the tendrils against her skin made her cringe and squirm inwardly, but she had no time to express that at the moment, as with every grunt and trembling limb she fought to be free.
