Yes even in the original version, cheat mode freezes the meter which has that unfortunate side effect. Just another reason why I modded the game to be able to control it.

I've managed to get to day thirty and haven't cracked her heart at all, you just need to know what she will and won't like. First five days or so you shouldn't even try to penetrate, rubbing both breasts is pretty much the fastest way of raising her heart meter at all stages of the game. as her heart meter gets more full she'll get upset at some things less, but pretty much everything non-gentle (pinching nipples, rubbing clit, finger pen, all but slowest piston) will still produce unhappiness and possibly cracks. once she hits 100 heart meter and starts cumming however she'll like anything, so do whatever you like then, getting lots of bonus hearts during orgasm seems to boost her next day opinion too.

I have a good tip on getting further in the game without breaking her heart. You're in luck, if you look through the creator's blog, they mention some things they're planning on adding in V2.0. Alternate positions get a mention, and there's images of cowgirl and doggy positions.
