Alexis' Thread (xivvix)

Re: Alexis' Thread (xivvix)

"Never heard of him," the man told her, bringing past the landing, through a heavy wooden door (not unreminiscent of the big pair she'd been thrown into to arrive at the Burrows in the first place, even if it was human-sized and hinged at right-angles from the floor) and down a short hall, one side lined with bars. Nobody else was here save for a rather dour-looking woman in a blue-black suit, her face masked by something that imitated cloth-of-gold.

Shoving her forward so that she stumbled a pace or two, the officer set his hands on his hips and looked as though he was going to block any attempt that Alexis might make to escape. The woman-officer was standing by the door that she'd closed behind her, anyways. This wasn't looking good...

"That's a pretty kitten you've brought," the new woman had risen off of her seat, setting aside a book to fish a ring of keys from her pocket. Her voice was as husky as her body was burly... the only reason that Alexis could tell that she was female at all was because of her unusually large bosom! "What's her crime?"

"Loitering without cause or permission," the officer spoke in a growl, though frowned when the masked woman chuckled. "She may look human, but she could be some halfbreed spawn chucked back in the Burrows; she could be working for one of them. Said she had a 'friend' she was waiting for, but never heard of him."

The masked woman had opened a door to one of the cells taking Alexis by the arm and firmly guiding her through. "Well, you'll know one way or t'other," she soothed, even if her voice was not particularly soothing. "In the meantime, I suppose you want me to occupy the little spitfire until the patrons pass judgment?"

"Wouldn't mind occupying her myself," the guard growled, glaring at the human girl. "Check her bag. Might be carrying something to escape."

Re: Alexis' Thread (xivvix)

So much for Nieomu getting her out of this, Alexis thought. She pulled away from the woman but allowed herself to be ushered into the cell. "Look, this is a misunderstanding. I'll go report myself to whoever is in charge, and then this will all be taken care of. Okay?" She looked around the cell, hoping to not see anything, or anyone, scary, then continues. "I just have some food in my bag, that's all."

Re: Alexis' Thread (xivvix)

Looking all about, Alexis could only spot a small window that gave a view out into the cavern.

No, that wasn't the cavern. There was a pupil in the middle of that expanse of brown, between the iron bars.

"Food and what else?" the guard was asking, making a move towards her. "Or have you already passed it off to him?"

"Excuse me?" a voice asked, coming from the wall of all places. No, the window. A great big mouth was briefly all they could see, before it dropped away and a great big finger tapped lightly on the wall. "Alexis, is that you in there?"

"What is that? A dragon?" the guard asked, shocked and apparently angered.

Re: Alexis' Thread (xivvix)

"Nieomu?" Alexis asked. She had never seen him in dragon form, but he was the only one she had introduced herself to in this place. She ran up to the window, and looked out. "Nieomu! Is that you?"

Re: Alexis' Thread (xivvix)

"I heard a commotion when I was leaving to meet you," the dragon explained, pulling back as Alexis reached the window. She could see him more clearly now: he blocked the road he sat on, his tail trailing up against the building across the way as it squished to fit. He was on his hind paws, his forearms pressed up against the building that Alexis was currently being held hostage in. His head reached just about the height of the window, and Alexis could see that it was heavily armored in dark green gems the same colour of his hair. Two glistening horns, the same material as those gems, jutted back from his head in elegant spirals, framed by long, slim brown ears that were perked forward to her. "Someone gave me a description that sounded like you." He sounded concerned, to say the least!

The guard snatched Alexis back from the window, grunting, "shoulda known you were with them; listen!" he shouted, "back off dragon, take it to the patrons if you've got a problem with it!"

Re: Alexis' Thread (xivvix)

"Ah, hey!" Alexis cried as she was pulled back, squirming against the guard but unable to break free. "Nieomu, they say I broke a law, but I was just sitting there!"

Re: Alexis' Thread (xivvix)

"Sir," Neiomu attempted to address the man, "please let her go. I'll appeal to the patrons if that's the proper process here, so long as I know she's not being hurt?" Despite his massive size, the earth dragon sounded timid!

The guard seemed unimpressed by either the dragon's tone or his size, ignoring him as he attempted to wrestle Alexis against the wall to keep her from squirming.

"Alexis?" Neiomu called, peering into the cell again. He was no longer able to see them. "Hold on!" With a splintering crack, the wall opened up next to the woman and the guard, and a snout nosed through. "Stop that," he told the officer without preamble, before reaching a great hand in to grope around for Alexis!

Re: Alexis' Thread (xivvix)

Pushed up against the wall by the guard, Alexis couldn't do much to help Nieomu find her. "Here!" she called. "To the left! No, my left!" She was a little dismayed that Nieomu was acting so timid with the guards, but glad he was trying to rescue her now!

Re: Alexis' Thread (xivvix)

Earth dragons weren't known for their social skills, let alone their bravado. Even now, Alexis could hear the huge quadruped worrying to himself, "what in the Goddess' name am I doing?"

Still, as she guided him to her, his hand encountered the guard first and, groping the man and realizing that he had the wrong person, Neiomu was able to squirm his fingers between the two humans by effort of sheer size difference. "You'll pay for this!" the officer was shouting, his two companions gaping after Alexis as the dark-haired young woman was bodily, though carefully, lifted out of the third-story window.

"Don't squirm!" the dragon warned her, dropping to three of all fours as he cradled Alexis up to his shoulder. He obviously meant for her to scramble onto his back, for he was urging her onto what looked and felt like a bed of hard, dark, large green gems. More officers (as well as non-uniformed humans) were spilling out of the great building and out of others, coming out into the street to see what was going on or to try to halt the earth dragon. They'd need to beat a hasty retreat if they didn't both want to end up in trouble!

Re: Alexis' Thread (xivvix)

Alexis holds as still as she can when the dragon grabs her, then quickly scrambles onto his shoulder and down to a section of his back that looked like she could hold onto. "Thank you so much, Nieomu!" she said, shaking as she gripped the gems lining his back.

Re: Alexis' Thread (xivvix)

"Don't thank me yet!" the dragon cast over his long-necked shoulder. Mincing through the crowd, trying his best not to crush anybody, he gritted his teeth as he cantered up the road and then, with a "hold on!" took off at full lope once his path was clear.

"Thank the Goddess that Falia doesn't give anyone weapons!" he called, though it was more of an observation than a suggestion. People were still after them, and Neiomu accidentally sent one flying with the flat of his tail as it whipped behind him. The way he ran wasn't particularly conducive to riding, given that Alexis found her grip on the smooth gems was dodgy, at best. She had to clamp her legs around him and (never mind if it felt rather nice) keep close to him to avoid getting tossed, as well!

Hurrying out of the cavern, the earth dragon cast a look behind him. "Is it safe yet?" he asked, looking both at Alexis and at the entrance behind her.

Re: Alexis' Thread (xivvix)

Alexis looked back as the dragon stomped along out of the cave. It looked like the Trefoil guards were quickly losing interest, slowing down as they realized they just couldn't keep up with the dragon. She turned back to Nieomu, sigh, and said "Yes, we're safe."

Sitting up a little straighter, her legs still clamped around the dragon's body, Alexis realized she was breathing heavily, and wondered briefly if it was from the adrenaline of the escape, or from the sensation of riding a dragon bare-back. She forced her legs to relax and adjusted her position while straightening her small skirt. "I'm so glad you cam Nieomu, I don't know what they were going to do to me." She turned back to look at the entrance of the cavern and was shocked to see the male guard standing there with two other guards, all eying her angrily. She doubted they would forget this. "Let's get out of here, Nieomu."

Re: Alexis' Thread (xivvix)

"I'm on it," he cast over his shoulder, trotting into the main passageway, dodging a few passersby until they had made nearly a full loop down the long path. Coming to a stop there, he crouched down as close to the ground as he could. "I'm going to shift down," he warned her, "you should probably get off, now... we should be safe."

Re: Alexis' Thread (xivvix)

Alexis smiled, threw herself against Nieomu's back and hugged him. Her face pressed against his rocky back, she squeezed him one time, giving a quick grunt, and then slid down. She wondered if dragons liked turning into human form all the time. "However you're more comfortable," she said, looking up at him with a smile.

Re: Alexis' Thread (xivvix)

The dragon, his head swiveled around to watch her, gave a somewhat self-conscious chuckle. "Nobody's told that to me before." He melted into human form again with a somewhat conveniently masking flash of light, dusting his dark clothing off and otherwise making a big deal out of being more interested in looking well kept to avoid looking directly at her. "I'm glad I found you in time, too," he told her, unable of what else to say next.

((+1xp for escaping the humans unscathed, even if it did seem totally rail-roaded. :D))

Re: Alexis' Thread (xivvix)

As soon as Nieomu had finished changing back, Alexis had started walking up to him. Just as he finished his statement, she threw her arms around him and pressed up against him. "I was so scared. No one's ever done anything like that for me before. I'm so grateful." She clung to him for a few moments before realizing that the timid dragon might be uncomfortable with this, and backed up, blushing and turning away. "Sorry."

Re: Alexis' Thread (xivvix)

He seemed more embarrassed about not knowing how to react than in her close company, for he patted her on the back haltingly. "Oh, anyone else would have done it in my place if they could," he murmured, though he didn't sound as though he completely believed it.

His cheeks were a deeper shade of reddish brown, his face hot with embarrassment and maybe other shameful thoughts that he'd rather keep to himself. "It's okay... hey, if you still want to stay over at my place, it's a long walk... we should probably start down that way."

He walked a few paces before stopping and tapping his chin. "I dropped that food they'd paid me." He didn't sound particularly upset; more sheepish than anything. "I somehow doubt that I could go back and ask for it."

Re: Alexis' Thread (xivvix)

At the mention of food, Alexis gasped and reached down to her bag... which was thankfully still around her. She had forgotten all about it, but was relieved to see she hadn't lost it in all the craziness. "I still have some food left," she said with a smile to the dragon. "There's enough for the both of us, I think." She reached down and wrapped one of her hands around his. "I'd love to see where you live."

Re: Alexis' Thread (xivvix)

Looking down at their entwined hands for a minute, thoroughly speechless, the earth dragon looked back up, into her eyes. His expression looked a little pained -- was that gratitude, or embarrassment, or something else?

Whatever it was, he nodded solidly enough. "Let's go."

They walked for several minutes, always slightly downhill, slightly curving in one direction. Passing all manner of human and other species, those who they encountered began to look less and less human... they were coming upon the portion of the Burrows that non-humanoid daemons had taken for themselves.

Bypassing even that, Neiomu showed her through a simple, undecorated cavern entrance, beyond that into a bare space that echoed as they made their way through it. Alexis could feel a strange, skin-crawling shiver as the earth dragon brought her over the threshold -- something that radiated 'get out now!' the further away from him that she got. It wasn't overwhelming, and only lasted for a few moments.

"It's not much," he told her, "but the protective spell keeps most people out." Across the cavern, the ground sloped further. There she could see a single potted shrub, doing rather poorly, and hear the trickle of water across rock. A nest of old and well-worn blankets made up the dragon's sleeping place. "It's not much," he repeated, apologizing.

Re: Alexis' Thread (xivvix)

During their walk through the cavern, Alexis had walked closer and closer to Nieomu as they passed more and more less humanoid creatures. Although she had professed to enjoy her experience with the swarmers, she was still frightened of the stranger denizens of the Burrows. She had grown up in a village of humans after all, and only rarely had she seen demons and dragons, and never a non-humanoid daemon. By the time the two had reached Nieomu's cavern, Alexis was clinging to his arm, her head slightly pressed against his shoulder. Passersby might have thought them a young couple in love, if it weren't for Alexis' shaking body and nervous eyes.

Alexis shut her eyes as they passed the threshold of his cavern, breathing a sigh of relief as the spell released it's grip on her. "I take it you don't get many visitors?" she asks with a giggle. She looked around his cave and grinned a bit. Not much? True, but Nieomu didn't seem like the kind of person that required much in the way of possessions to be happy. "It suits you. It's uncomplicated, straightforward," she said, responding to his apology. She looked around the cave more, wondering about the source of the watery sound.
