Re: In today's news...

I can understand the idea that marriage is a religious thing and that only those who follow the religious stuff should marry, and priests only marry those in their religion/following those religious laws. You can't exactly force a mosque to let someone sell pork on their property either.

But if you want to go that way with it, you need to completely and totally disconnect marriage from any legal rules or regulations. And that's the part that they don't bother doing. And why people think they're just being massive dicks about the issue.
Which they are.

If they truly wanted marriage to be a religious thing only, then they would have reformed the law first to take away all the legal perks marriage gives to a couple, and after that separated it.
But they didn't, so it's pretty clear that they're either not thinking about these things, or doing it just to piss off people

A bit of warning, you might find this disgusting.

Woman uses bacteria in her own vagina to make her own homemade yogurt, would you eat it?

Thats ironic, usually women put yogurt up their vaginas to clear up bacterial infections.

Also: Wooden spoon? That sounds smart... aside from the risk of splinters you've also got the problem that wood is porous so can contain dirt and germs

Also Also: "The power of my vagina" "The feminist in me" - why don't the news rags make fun of these weird women the same way they would if a man said "I was bored one day so I jacked off into a glass of milk then left it to ferment for a week, I came back to some tasty yogurt."

Not sure if this applies to Oklahoma... but there is a clause that if x number of people list a thing as their religion on their census then that thing becomes a recognised religion.

Jedi is a recognised religion.

So if you want a homo religion I can guess you can go to your nearest Jedi temple or something. (I guess a comic book store ;))

I'd have to poke around, but I'm pretty sure there's an elected official somewhere that's either a declared Jedi or a member of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, or at least there was. (Of course, I could be wrong on both counts. I just know that he doesn't belong to one of the more "traditional" religions.)

True, but then again the US voter is a crazy sort. We're the type who would probably elect "Weird Al" Yankovic as a Legislator or Governor if he ran a decent campaign, maybe even as President (for examples, see Jesse "The Body" Ventura, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Ronald Reagan). Traditional and/or intelligent often take a back seat to charming and/or "whoa, that would be AWESOME, bruh!"

A German dadaist party, founded by satirist and comedian Martin Sonneborn, has a seat in the European Parliament. Ever since then, they're steadily working at exposing bizarre behaviors in the parliament. For example, they have sold money in order to get more funding from the EU, earning € 260.80 but getting fundings of € 240,000.

( Post on their official website in German: )

Wow I never thought I see the day when people were happy about the government taking control of something. This is not what you think it is, it's regulation and it will limit the internet not free it.

Re: In today's news...

Eh, it's a lesser of two evils thing, better to be government regulated than completely free to the market which means big business specifically. So we leave it to be run by incompetents as opposed to incompetents who want to charge us a shitload of money

You've been listening to Comcast and Fox News I see.

Don't be fooled by their attempts to spin this. This isn't some big new change that will alter the course of the internet. It's already been open and neutral throughout it's entire history. This is about preventing the monopolistic American ISPs from changing that, and abusing their obnoxiously smug dominance any more than they already have.

This whole thing was sparked by the telecoms industry sneakily trying to pass new bills to allow them to take greater control, and strangle out their smaller competitors. Their so called "internet fastlane" plans, were the equivalent of taking a four lane road, and closing one lane to everyone except those who pay an extra fee, and trying to trick people that it would make things faster. Whilst meanwhile gaining the power to force any driver they didn't like to drive on the grass.

I'm sure you also believe that clean drinking water regulations are limiting your freedom to drink. Must really suck that you can't pay a premium user subscription to get higher water pressure than your poorer neighbours. Such fascist tyranny.

Re: In today's news...

A sad day today, as Leonard Nimoy died earlier today. I just woke up not long ago and found out myself. Leonard Nimoy was one of my favorite actors of all time, and all I can say is that I hope all the rest of us can Live Long and Prosper. He will be sorely missed.

A sad day indeed, Leonard Nimoy passing away and his last tweet :(. On to lighter matters though, the dress. Is it blue and black, white and gold... or blue and orange?

Blue and black, even from a quick glance:p

I generally make it a point NOT to grieve for celebrities. They're usually people that I don't know or really care about. But when someone who's been a part of my life since my childhood, like the actor who played Spock and provided narration for many documentaries (there was a VHS on the planets that we had as kids) passes away, I cannot help but feel a sense of loss. Still, it is only appropriate to paraphrase his best-known character:

Don't grieve, fellow fans. It is logical. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few... or the one. He has been and always shall be our Spock. Live long and prosper.

Leonard Nimoy has gone on to the "undiscovered country" of which Hamlet spoke, and we bid him a bittersweet farewell.

Because it's been on the news and radio, as well as being/been heavily discussed in North America for the past couple days. I don't quite get the fascination myself, but a friend asked me about it and is still convinced it's gold and white for some reason. Just thought I'd put it up, see if it sparked interest.

:eek:Sorry, but should it have gone on a different thread? I couldn't find one relatively new...

Re: In today's news...

It technically is news, so it counts for in here.

Even if it really shouldn't have made the news. I guess it's still better than 90% of US Political news.

It's simply a curious accidental optical illusion that went viral enough to the extent that it hit mainstream news, and had some high profile people disagreeing over it too.

[Edit add]

Also, Lenovo computers have been rather careless scum-bags lately it seems.

Not a big deal right now but just in case MEGA goes under, some of you may want to back up some of your upload data if you have any on there.

To the point of this post, MEGA has lost it's ability to process payments because Paypal terminated their services with them a few days ago.

Re: In today's news...

Thought this was interesting news since it's good news imo at least for game developers everywhere. Epic Games has announced prior to GDC (Game Developer Conference) that for Unreal Engine 4 they are taking out the $19.99 monthly fee to use it, and it is now going to be free with a 5% of your quarterly income after you make at least $3,000 for a quarter going to them.
