Re: Dwarf fortress successiongame

i find haveing two saves of a region is useful while playing on it because then you can check things like what gender dragon you caught and if it ate a dwarf or not. speeking of captured dragons i recently caught two both of oppsite genders and unfortunatly both have eaten dwarves and i was woundering how the hell will i breed dragons if i cant really tame it.

Given that I've never intentionally bred anything, I've got no idea.

I, too, keep extra saves around - although these are the seasonal autosaves I set it to make. I promise I won't get fussy with the succession game - straight through, saving only to take a break.

You can keep both dragons on a small ledge, any baby dragons they get will almost immediately crawl off the ledge and fall 1 z level(At least, that's what dwarf babies tend to do in magma forges), causing no injuries. They will not give birth to tame things, so set cage traps.

However, I believe that in the unmodded game, dragons can't breed, they are megabeasts that just get made at the start of worldgen.

Looking at that world, I'm laughing at 2 human kingdoms next to eachother.

"The Realm of Holes"

The info, note I stopped it around year 150 to keep megabeasts alive:

Awww... no dragon-meat industry? No "extirpated-animal breeding and reintroduction program"? That's sad.

Pssh... and "Holes" is also winning. Insofar as they haven't actually gone to war, near as I can see. :p

So... is this the start location everybody can agree on? Sand for glass, assorted other features?

I think it has everything we could really want, unless someone's set on trapping a GCS. >.>

Re: Dwarf fortress successiongame

I think that would be a good embark to use.

Anybody want any comment on the order we will play in? Or would the order as listed in the first post be good?

Sure, that works. Just make sure you add the_taken to that list... I notice you haven't. So the order would be:
  1. XSI
  2. thetwo
  3. garfield751
  4. Host
  5. the_taken
  6. DeMatt
Correct?

Re: Dwarf fortress successiongame

My mistake, I didn't really look at the first post a lot, thinking I'd update it once we get started.

Which is, well, when do people think it's a good time to start?

Edit: And, if anybody has a suitable name to use, or the random name generator should be used.

Well, let's see... we've agreed on a start location, we've agreed on a play order, we've agreed (more or less) on play rules, so... just need to decide on an embark build. Maybe just hit "Play Now!", and accept a random embarking party? Or allow the first player (that's you, XSI!) to decide, so he gets the fortress off to a good start?
Edit: And, if anybody has a suitable name to use, or the random name generator should be used.
Hmmm...
Nebélgunlelitêg, "Admires Raping Tentacles". :p
Eh, the random generator works for me.

Re: Dwarf fortress successiongame

I'd say that's a good idea, just play now for random dwarves(Not like we're going to keep recognising the founders when we change player every year), and random names.

I think I'll start tomorrow, to give people who still have a comment or suggestion to say it before starting.
(Also, since I've kept genning worlds, I have no idea which one it was, mind posting seeds again?)

Besides that, I'm thinking we should have 2 threads for this, this thread as comments/overview, and the other thread for the actual playing, else the messages from what's happening to the fort may be hidden in between comments and discussions.

Yes! Do start! I is impatient!

BTW, we can and probably will give custom nicknames and profession labels to dwarves as we're playing.
(Also, since I've kept genning worlds, I have no idea which one it was, mind posting seeds again?)
Code:
World Size: Medium
World Seed: 2329363634
History Seed: 2012167617
Stop Year: 140
Megabeast Stop: Ignored
The history seed and custom stop time are merely to ensure specific megabeasts are around - if you want to randomize that, go ahead.
Besides that, I'm thinking we should have 2 threads for this, this thread as comments/overview, and the other thread for the actual playing, else the messages from what's happening to the fort may be hidden in between comments and discussions.
Sure, sure. Be much clearer to read like that.

Re: Dwarf fortress successiongame(Discussion and overview)

I don't a preference for any particular build, but I'd really prefer someone picks something with a reason behind it instead of just taking the random "Play Now!" thing.

I mean, getting a wave composed entirely of soap makers and fish dissectors is all part of the game, but *starting* with a miner and 6 completely useless dwarfs is just wrong. >.<

Re: Dwarf fortress successiongame(Discussion and overview)

A good point there, I guess I'll just make sure we start with useful dwarves, and not an army of soap makers and comedians.

Edit: Also notice the thread title, the actual game thread will be posted when I start playing.(Which should be pretty fast, being the first year, and thus mostly uneventful)

I'd also suggest we actually write something like we're actually managing a fort, and not like some kind of writing robot just listing what happens.

Re: Dwarf fortress successiongame(Discussion and overview)

Just mentioning it, I've started playing, and will post a new thread for the actual playing.

I've found the embark, embarked, and would like to mention just one thing...A nearby goblin fortress is in evil mountains, which means we may get trolls and beak dogs in later sieges.
I'll also note, embarking with 2 miners, a mason, a carpenter, and 3 other things that seemed like a good idea(And will be a good idea)
I've traded one of the 2 starting axes for more points to buy a few random things. More info in the new thread soon.

Edit: I just noticed we haven't set a length for each turn, so I'm assuming 1 year is fine, enough time to do things, and with 4 seasons something interesting is going to happen anyway.

Whew, my turn is done then, thetwo, you're next.

Moment for me to upload the save file.

Edit: Here it is

As for the monument I made, this is the stuff the main part of it is made out of:

Alright, my turn is done. I'll upload in a moment for the next person. At the rollover to the new year an artifact finished. It was just a crossbow, but... legendary weaponsmith ftw!

Also, my monument is made entirely out of hollow space filled with magma.

So, how far off was I with my estimate of where the magma was?

Also sending garfield a pm just in case.

Your cross was completely within the magma.
