Yes.That's a very unspecific question.
You can cast spells if and only if you have a Talent from magic. Doesn't matter what it is, but you can only cast 4th and 5th level spells of an element if your character has 'Focus' in that element.
Does that help?
<Useless Pedantry>Well, she can *try* to cast up to 3rd level spells. Success depends on mind value and any bonuses.</Useless Pedantry>If a character has a Talent from magic, she can cast up to 3rd level spells from ANY element.
Lol. True.<Useless Pedantry>Well, she can *try* to cast up to 3rd level spells. Success depends on mind value and any bonuses.</Useless Pedantry>
Um... I only see Cappy's...New threads for Cappy and the_taken are up.
NP, hehe...Nah, I hit the submit button before I finished yours, so it took me another couple of minutes.

Announcements:
1) I'm planning out the system for a sequel to Dark Gate. The system will hopefully be much easier to use, with less work during character creation. It's only in planning stages right now, but if it ever does get finished, don't worry, I'm not going to up and abandon 1.0 until the storyline is over and done with.
2) I'm coding out a character creator. Not sure if I'll actually finish it anytime soon, or if I'll even have it work for DG 1.0, but we'll see. I'll be sure to test it on computers other than my own before I release any form of it, but just so people know: I have literally no way of testing it out on a Mac. I can try it on a Unix/Linux machine, and I'm running Windows, but I don't know anyone who owns a Mac that's within convenient range.
There's another thing that simplification does, which I'm hoping to see along side with said simplification, though it may not happen.I never found the character creation too much work. Always enjoyed that kinda stuff. Only thing that slows it down is making sure you understand the rules for each part properly, but you'd want to know that before you start anyway. I can imagine this character creator your working on will help you out too, if it can prevent you having to check that the secondary stats and such have been calculated correctly.
Just my unofficial speculation here, but I'd imagine that could heavily depend on what your character gets up to in the current game. Some characters might not fit whatever the new situation might be either. Far too early to say really, but I probably wouldn't mind my Red being able to continue her misadventures in the future. But if her fate took her down a "certain path" here that would make her unavailable for the next game, then I always enjoy drawing up new characters. Also I want to ask, will you be able to make a continuation of your old character, or will you have to design a new one, and how prominent will the decisions of old characters be in the lives of new characters in this sequel?
...? Do it in Flash or Java. Let the other guys worry about whether the VM will work on their computer or not.2) I'm coding out a character creator. Somehow I just noticed this. I'd like to point out at this time that once in a while I'll code questionably-useful java projects in my spare time. >.>2) I'm coding out a character creator. Java. I was tempted to do it in python just so it would be faster, but I'm not familiar enough with the python STL, and don't have the urge to commit suicide by trying to make it all from scratch....? What're you creating it in, anyways?
