Re: PbP Interest Check

OK, next question, how does having magical spells work?

Re: PbP Interest Check

That's a very unspecific question.

You can cast spells if and only if you have a Talent from magic. Doesn't matter what it is, but you can only cast 4th and 5th level spells of an element if your character has 'Focus' in that element.

Does that help?

Yes.

It looks like a succubus can get access to one set of magic. Doesn't look like she can focus. Can she?

edit-> Character sheet is effectively done. Do you want me to PM it to you, or post it right into the character sheet thread?

Re: PbP Interest Check

Since you edited it out of your original post above...

Every character may take Natural Warrior, Natural Mage, and Natural Spirit. Each of these, ONCE. In order to gain skills from an alternate set than her own. (as well as Natural Succubus, to a lesser extent)

In addition, Succubus may take Superior W/M/S, to gain one more skill of another class. Not one per class, just one, so this one you need to choose more carefully.

So if you wanted a succubus to have 2 magic focuses, you could give her both Natural Mage and Superior Mage. Then still have Natural Warrior and Natural Spirit available to you. (You just can't use Superior again)

Re: PbP Interest Check

Yeah, I figured that much out. I'm just wondering how it is a succubus gains spells. There's nothing that actually says she does. Actually there isn't anything anywhere that says anybody can cast spells. Only getting better at it.

If a succubus takes Natural Mage - Focus in Element {Body} does that mean she can cast all the spells in the Body element and nothing else?

If a succubus takes Natural Mage -Transmuter does that mean she can cast all the transmutation spells up to 3rd level? (with a +16 bonus to CL)

If a character has a Talent from magic, she can cast up to 3rd level spells from ANY element.

<Useless Pedantry>Well, she can *try* to cast up to 3rd level spells. Success depends on mind value and any bonuses.</Useless Pedantry>

Re: PbP Interest Check

New threads for Cappy and the_taken are up.

Announcements:
1) I'm planning out the system for a sequel to Dark Gate. The system will hopefully be much easier to use, with less work during character creation. It's only in planning stages right now, but if it ever does get finished, don't worry, I'm not going to up and abandon 1.0 until the storyline is over and done with.
2) I'm coding out a character creator. Not sure if I'll actually finish it anytime soon, or if I'll even have it work for DG 1.0, but we'll see. I'll be sure to test it on computers other than my own before I release any form of it, but just so people know: I have literally no way of testing it out on a Mac. I can try it on a Unix/Linux machine, and I'm running Windows, but I don't know anyone who owns a Mac that's within convenient range.

Nah, I hit the submit button before I finished yours, so it took me another couple of minutes.

I never found the character creation too much work. Always enjoyed that kinda stuff. Only thing that slows it down is making sure you understand the rules for each part properly, but you'd want to know that before you start anyway. I can imagine this character creator your working on will help you out too, if it can prevent you having to check that the secondary stats and such have been calculated correctly.

There's another thing that simplification does, which I'm hoping to see along side with said simplification, though it may not happen.
What I am speaking of of course, is that spare space may be used for more stuff!

No sequel is a true sequel lest there be more cool stuff!
In other words more things to distinguish the game, like more flexible game implementations, for example a way to craft items, with limitations depending on items you find, the quality of said items, and how good your idea is, etc etc...

Personally I believe the current system is very good and could be re-used, so I wouldn't be complaining if you where just making a more clean version of it.
:p.

Also I want to ask, will you be able to make a continuation of your old character, or will you have to design a new one, and how prominent will the decisions of old characters be in the lives of new characters in this sequel?

Just my unofficial speculation here, but I'd imagine that could heavily depend on what your character gets up to in the current game. Some characters might not fit whatever the new situation might be either. Far too early to say really, but I probably wouldn't mind my Red being able to continue her misadventures in the future. But if her fate took her down a "certain path" here that would make her unavailable for the next game, then I always enjoy drawing up new characters.

...? Do it in Flash or Java. Let the other guys worry about whether the VM will work on their computer or not.

What're you creating it in, anyways?

Somehow I just noticed this. I'd like to point out at this time that once in a while I'll code questionably-useful java projects in my spare time. >.>

Java. I was tempted to do it in python just so it would be faster, but I'm not familiar enough with the python STL, and don't have the urge to commit suicide by trying to make it all from scratch.

At this point, it's less a problem of coding it, and more a problem of getting the output to look nice.
