Re: Games Discussion Thread

This seems especially stupid for fans of the first one, as in the end War does get his revenge and proves his innocence all by himself.
I think whats happening is that there is the larger plan at work. I'm pretty sure the council knew war was innocent but they were using him.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

In my opinion games like these aren't really about story. At least I mostly don't look that deeply into it, because that usually just leaves me disappointed.
What things remain though are gameplay and - for me especially - soundtrack, which I found positive.

Concerning the story: I think there probably are going to Darksiders 3 and possibly 4, since they already showed detailed outlines of what the other Riders look like and what they are about. Just wrapping things up at the end of either already released part will always make a following part ridiculous/unnecessary story-wise. So I think that although especially the ending of DS 2 was lacking, it was more fitting and showed that the setting has still much potential.

I may however skip the next part because I think that whips are gay :p

Heathen! Whips have been used by the Belmonts to kill Dracula since the beginning of gaming!

But yeah, very dissapointed that they decided to go BACKWARDS IN TIME after their very first game (more and more LOZ), and are now giving each rider a game (fuck me I just wanted to see war beat the piss out of everyone, now I've got to sit through 2 more games).

And yeah, dat loot system must go, I didn't even bother using any of the weapons dropped by 'secret' bosses because I'd leveled up my cursed ones to the point that they were far stronger. I'd say the whole leveling system needs to go as well, I don't like games that force a shitty level cap to 'keep the game challenging', especially when there's an arena that requires you to be the real max level before beating it.

Oh and the arena, can't beat it on your first playthrough, I found this out AFTER I'd went through levels 0-80 in one sitting. I understand trying to impart replayability to a game, but FORCING it is just a big old 'fuck you' as far as I'm concerend.

Well I wanted to let everyone know about this game that is coming out on the 20th that is Free to play. Its a FPS, that goes deeper then the standard matches. Its a MMO style world, always on (90% of the time) that you get to choose between 3 factions and try to take over the world with them.

Instead of matches you have to take over bases that gain your faction resources that you use for heavier armor, tanks, aircraft and grenades as well of other items. It has an interesting leveling system were the levels them self dont hold much meaning but the points you get with XP and passively (daily) get you upgrades for classes, vehicles, and weapons.

This does not seem to be a pay to win game, since they are following a similar model to LoL where (Only weapons and cosmetics like only champions and cosmetics) can be bought with the real currency so no one can buy power, sure they may get a weapon day one but in a week you be up to par with them.

This game is best on an epic scale, the maps are continents each one about 90 times larger then the standard BF3 map and they hold up to 2k players. This is an epic scale game where the battles are large normally a few hundred people in key areas but you can still get small squad combat in smaller outpost around the main fight.

They plan to release free content for the life of the game currently at release they will only be 3 continents but they plan to add more during the next few years all for free. Which makes this game even better then the first one which I loved as well but this one has so many upgrades its great game for any FPS fan. Give it a try, its free you have nothing to lose.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Regarding Darksiders, I think that the two "new" riders, Strife and Fury, may be packed into one game, which will be set AFTER 1 and 2. Mostly because a "Quadrilogy" is unusual in games telling one story, but also because I honestly don't think that the two rookies each deserve their own game. There are several ways this could work: Each having a different campaign; Playing each character in turn; Both characters sharing the same campaign, which is my favourite option. You could use their distinctive powers to solve puzzles and defeat bosses. It would even open up the game for coop, both couch and online.

Also, what happened to Famine and Pestilence? Were they killed and replaced, or has it always been THOSE four in the Darksiders mythos. I get that "starving" and "coughing" aren't exactly action game material, but I'd still like to see that adressed.

Yeah, they were replaced because the game designers didn't have enough imagination to make them cool.

Though there's some BS on the wiki about how they're actually one in the same, and our views on what the riders should be are skewed based on the current meanings of their names.

Honestly I would have liked to see Famine be some vampire-esque rider, plauged by their own eternal hunger, with abilities that relied on draining enemies. Maybe even feeding off of the spiritual essence of things, causing them to age rapidly or something.

As for Pestilience... there's plenty to work with, swarms of rats aren't that great (read as: shittiest ability ever) but if you went the insect route there are alot of cool things. Chitinous armor and weapons for insance, bug-like abilites, and ooooooh giant spider for a steed.

These are all good ideas. However I think that they nowadays probably wouldn't be suitable for a game intended for the mainstream. It's gonna be a whip and a pistol - probably with iron sights at that.

Oh what the hell - what about an all-devouring famine that keeps mutating depending on what enemies you eat. Permanent mutations, too. Now that would make the game replayable.

The common usage of horsemen these days is known as war famine pestilence and death. This has actualy changed since their original biblical inception and ironical the dark siders cast of horsemen are a closer fit to their original incarnation, even if they have a slight leaning towards combat.

The first rider has a white horse and a bow and is commonly thought to represent conquest. The death of this being that the death of your enemies. Because these days people dont really like the thought of that he is now replaces with pestilence however the darksiders incarnation of fury weilding guns is suprisingly accurate.

The second rider has a red horse and weilds a sword, he is commonly refered to as war. However you might be saying that we've already had war, this is true. The war this refers to is internal war where you kill your own people, global and without borders, it is far more total. In modern times people tend to get his meaning confused with conquest.

The third rider has a black horse and carries scales. He represents famine, the scales being the rations that are given to each family and the trouble obvious. The incarnation as Strife is realy little different as strife really just means a time of trouble which a famine most definantly would be.

The fourth rider has a pale horse and his name is death.

Yep, I mentioned the game here earlier actually. Not the release date. Just general talk. I'm currently torn between which faction to join upon release. New Conglomerate were the most likely for a while, but I just discovered how much I prefer Vanu's Scythe over the other air vehicles. My brother and a friend seemed to be leaning on Vanu last I knew. Whilst another friend much prefers NC. Tricky decisions. Even the TR aren't out of the question still.

I just finished doing a bit of final testing with the certification points I'd saved up, before the servers close till launch. Bought a bunch of varied things to test. Wish I knew about the thermal optics for the aircraft sooner. Suddenly countless infantry that you never knew were down there all become valid targets. The vehicle mounted 60mm grenade launchers are also a very nice addition to either of the transport vehicles. When I'm able to play the game with my buddy, we're definitely going to have to get a Sunderer and kit it up as a battle wagon.

>Acquire Sunderer Spawn Mechanism
>Get ALL the exp.

Personally I've already ran into a group for PS2, but nothing stopping me from making another character should people here want to set up the war elsewhere. Guess my only minor quibble is that proper weapons are extremely expensive, as you're left with nothing at the start but some crappy carbines and the Beamer... seriously, the Beamer. I wonder why I even try to use it. :S

Vehicles definitely seem the way to go for the start of the game, though. And on the bright side I got used to all the air vehicles before the game started, so I got an edge on all the newbies >:3

If I can run it without horrible lag I'd be down for some massive-scale warfare.

As mentioned by Squid before, and experienced by me, it's very low-lag, even on my craptop with edge-of-the-wireless internet. Only time I had issues was the 200+ 3-way battles that I only ran into every so often (mostly at the Crown base, because DAYUM fighting there was awesome.)

I don't know what it's like in PS2, but don't you be talking bad 'bout the Beamer, now. That little prick has scored me heavily-armored vehicle kills in Planetside 1. Like, BFRs and Vanguards.

..... okay, so I only did it a couple of times BUT IT WAS GLORIOUS.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Ah, I supose it'd be worth me noting that I'll be playing on the Europe server/s, so sadly I'll probably not get to play with most of you guys. Although I did notice that over half the population of the EU server during beta seemed to be Americans anyway, but that was probably because the other two were crowded.

And I've killed quite a few people with the beamer, but that's only as Infiltrator and only when I've had the total element of surprise. Though I would still rate the beamer higher than the Terran's horrible repeater pistol.

Also from what I understood, the resource rates were either increased or not yet balanced during beta. You probably noticed that you pretty much had enough resources to get any vehicle 99% of the time. That's supposed to change/have changed.

Except that pestilence retired after penicillin was discovered, and so pollution took over. And they all ride motorcycles.

The Beamer is the first pistol ya get as the VS, et. all. And the game is naturally a 'pay to save time' model as of all MMOs anymore that are F2P. Thus, your starting weapons are a weeeeee bit... lackluster.

...Cides, I coulda swore I saw the original Beamer on a 'Top 5 Worst Guns in FPS's' list, up there with that K-something gun from Goldeneye and the Halo 2 Needler.

Well they're obviously wrong, the needler has gotten me many kills. A few after my death, but most while I'm still alive. High fire-rate with moderate seeking = priceless. I had a permanent hard-on whenever I was dual wielding them. They were however useless in the campaign.

And if the base weapons suck... I'm guessing it's going to be a bitch to get in a vehicle. Such a shame because everyone wants to be gunner, I'm a horrible driver but better than most on a turret.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Getting in a vehicle is easy as pie actually Slicer. You can be driving a tank out to battle within a minute of starting if you know which spawn terminal to run up to. The limitation with vehicles is that they all have a spawn timer, mostly around 15 minutes. Which means you've got to survive in that thing for 14 minutes or so, or you're going to have to wait to get a new one. Spending a tiny amount of cert points can reduce that timer to 11 or 12 minutes without too much expense. The timer is individual for each vehicle though, so there's nothing stopping you piloting a gunship for a while instead if your light aircraft gets shot down. Also three buddies sharing a gunship could mostly likely take turns piloting and stay in the air indefinitly, provided they can survive at least a few minutes each.

The basic weapons seem okay to me, though I did only unlock two alternative weapons during the beta, so never had much to compare to. Got a single fire pistol for TR, and a supposedly more accurate lower capacity assault rifle for the NC. The pistol was a big improvement over the spray and pray thing you start with, but honestly couldn't tell the difference with the rifle. Spent most of my cert points on the other minor passive upgrades and things like C4. The basic NC carbine will still pick off people fairly swiftly at 200+ meters if you use select fire (and provided they're not paying enough attention to get down).

I didn't like the games strange take on the LMGs much, where it's basically just a bigger gun with no ability to control recoil when firing at range, yet a generally superior gun for medium range fighting and point blank assaults. Not exactly a flaw in the weapon game play wise, but just not how an LMG is supposed to work is all.

The alternative vehicle weapons however are a clear game changer. Give a tank the dedicated AP rounds, and you'll notice how enemy tanks are squashed in record time, but you end up fleeing from a tiny rabble of infantry. Get the plasma cannon for the Vanu Scythe and everything on the ground becomes a nice target, whilst you find yourself vulnerable to enemy aircraft.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Admittedly a lot of my (small amount) Certs went into either the medical/engineer's repair passives, or the Sunderer (LOVE the basic turrets on those, give it zoom and better capacity and I'm a happy camper). I didn't test out other functions of the Sunder, but considering the popularity of spawn sunders, a part of me wonders if a vehicle-ammo-resupply Sunderer would be just as viable, or heck, one made for combat with the Armor upgrades and heavier mounted weapons like the Grenade Launcher.
