Re: To Find a Way Home (Mamono Assault Force)

Bakan: HP = 102/120, PP = 45/45, EP = 65/85, Status = Fine

NPC Stats
Samarta: HP = 54, PP = 67, EP = 67, Status = Fine, Pregnant
Inka: HP = 51, PP = 61, EP = 44, Status = Fine
Rebecca: A coon. A fluffy fluffy coon.
Orgrosh: HP = 97, PP = 49, EP = 72, Fine
Sarah: Fine

"I suppose that's true," Orgrosh agreed to Bakan's reasoning about the reaction of others to Rebecca's presence, and then seemed content where that subject was concerned.

When they'd arrived at the mansion, and Bakan had made his claim regarding Rebecca, the butler didn't seem phased. That was perhaps his default state, judging by how little seemed to inspire any readily apparent reaction in him, but even working with that assumption wouldn't make him any easier to put up with. He also didn't seem to have much to say on the matter, however, and simply turned to lead Bakan and his companions to Dove without acknowledging Bakan's statement about Rebecca.

Though, at the bit of how Badarians acted like nothing had happened after the dust settled, Bakan rose his head. "That's not entirely true. Indeed, many Badarians clung to their old ways, but I've seen the changes, however subtle. Many Badarians have been getting better about regarding other races, but those people are overlooked because it's the hateful racists that get all of the attention. The problem I wouldn't attest to being with everyone in this city. It was the hateful citizens that we noticed when going down the street, but I'm sure there were others, who don't share their views. The real issue is that those hateful are allowed to do as they please without protest. The good people have a voice that they aren't using because they think they're in the minority, and they very well may be right. All we need do is give those good people a more powerful voice than the hateful, and we just might see Badaria change for the better." Bakan said his piece on that. The point was that good people do exist in Badaria, but there was another point to be made as well.
"Mmmmm, maybe that's a good idea, but it's also much easier said than done, and the unfortunate reality of the situation is that... The common folk simply don't have any real power in Badaria, at least not in any of the cities or the larger towns. Not even with the few elected offices and the occasional public poll. Maybe in the villages it could be different, but there.... Well, if the nobles are conservative, then those in more rural areas have always seemed even more so, though I admit to having very limited experience in such areas. Would you say otherwise?" Given Bakan's most recent history, it might be hard to come up with a good example of a rural area that hadn't been just as racist as the people in Cheydin, even if they were a little bit less aggressive about it. The people of Manmere Marsh who had been ready to lynch Samarta and Inka on sight, the people of Bonmoure Lake who had been ready to execute Orgrosh on a mere suspicion of a crime, and many instances before then. There had been examples otherwise, if rarely, but the bad would certainly outweigh the good.

"But... Unfortunately, it's not just racism that blockades our ability to get along..." Bakan almost felt like he was thinking too much of Orgrosh as he began saying this. "Our traditions, our values, our ways of life, and our habits all differ from region to region. Whether we're afraid of each other or not, it still presents a difficulty. Even if you got two races together who agreed with one another and had open minds, they could leave the room hating each other purely because of a disagreement on values and tradition. No matter what anyone says, it's hard to say that there's an easy answer for such complicated issues. But problems are solved by working together. I'm not good enough to be an example of that yet, but I'm trying my best." Bakan said. He did what he could to avoid looking at Orgrosh, and making it too obvious that he was thinking of their fight as they spoke. Though it was likely a wasted effort anyway. She probably already knew what he was referencing to.
"Well, yes, traditions certainly play a part in the enmity between larger groups," Dove replied thoughtfully, while Bakan would feel Orgrosh's gaze boring into him, "and not just because we Badarians have been so conditioned to hate anyone who isn't human. We've been in a state of war with Crolia for... Ever, almost, and retaking all of the more verdant land bordering the desert didn't exactly sit well with the people of Anudor any better than it did with the Su-Ku-Ta. Our forays into the jungle weren't exactly made with the intent of keeping peace with the locals either. In the bigger picture.... Well, look at what's happening in Crolia right now. I think that's a perfect example of how differing traditions can cause issues when both sides take them seriously enough."

Amazed as the others might be following Dove's announcement that he was dragonborn, Bakan was likely the only one in the room who didn't seem to acknowledge that fact as significant at all. In fact, the grand announcement held true to what Dove said, not dramatic at all. "Why is that important?" Bakan questioned aloud. Orgrosh's slight amazement made him seem more confused. "Your father would be a terrible man, whether he was dragonhearted or not. You'd be who you are as well, irrelevant of your genes. As would I. I don't mind being told that, it's interesting always to learn about other people, but I just feel that... Even now..." Bakan glanced at Orgrosh. "People put too much weight on such a simple thing. I personally don't think any different of you, knowing this. I realize others views may differ, but the importance of the fact is always lost on me. I only care about who the person is, not what they are. If you're a good person, I'll want to be friends. If you're bad, I'll want to scold you. Evil people will always be treated the same by me in my book, whether they're bananas or dragons." Bakan said simply.
"That's exactly my point," Dove replied coolly, "it shouldn't matter at all.... But if it leaves this room that I am not purely human, and any of my rivals catch wind of it, my title would be revoked and I would be executed, so... Please don't go and spread that around." Pausing to clear his throat after his request, Dove continued; "That is, in my mind, a much more progressive opinion. I've finally found at least one person who agrees with me."

When they finally moved on to Dove's request, to guard a man working to improve the conditions of women, Dove threw up his hands in an exaggerated shrug, obviously as frustrated at the idea of hiring assassins to kill someone for that as Bakan found it perplexing. "Exactly!" he exclaimed, "sometimes my countrymen just.... Completely baffle me!" Dove took a moment to sigh, calming himself, before continuing in a much more level tone, "I guess they just don't like the idea of change at all. To some, having one you viewed as an inferior treated like an equal is the worst thing imaginable, and they'll do whatever they can to prevent it.

"Anyway.... Thank you, for agreeing to help. I don't exactly meet many mercenaries or adventurers, and going out to find someone like that would tip off that I learned of their plot. The less complicated things become, the better, and if you or any of your friends can make my friend stay alive long enough to free him from the threat, I'll gladly compensate you all for your work." Dove seemed surprised when Bakan openly asked for a favor in turn for his service, but listened intently to his two requests anyway.

"Do not say the name a third time!" he would interrupt urgently after the second time that Bakan said Sivicine's name, after which he would more evenly add; "sorry.... Continue." When Bakan had finished, Dove's lips would be pursed, and for a moment he would be silent. "Your first request isn't a problem," he said, "I can point you to a good hotel or inn, or a hostel, or even put you up myself, though I suspect that my butler will object to that last option," he said, briefly adding a jovial note despite the dark look and tone that now undercut his every word and motion. "Your second request.... I can help, yes. And I will. But.... Who is Rebecca? The raccoon, presumably?" he asked, Bakan having only told the butler Rebecca's name by that point, and once that was confirmed Dove continued; "I don't know how I can help you precisely, but I'll go over the materials I've gathered. At the very least, I could help summon her, and you could question her and maybe get her to reverse the transformation, but... Binding a god isn't a small favor, nor is it something to be done lightly. You'd.... Better have a good plan if you really want to go through with something that drastic."

Clearing his throat, Dove leaned back slowly, lowering his hands to the arms of his chair. "As for the Nightstalker... All I know are rumors. You could probably hear more from the common folk, but they would probably tell you things that are even more outlandish than what I've heard. The Nightstalker is an assassin, one of the best, but they've been operating for so long that they're either very old, very long lived, or merely a title that's been taken up repeatedly. They say he can't be seen or heard, that he moves as a shadow and leaves his victims dead without ever making a sound. There are a lot of stories, but basically I expect either elaborate tricks or magic to be involved. They allegedly rarely leave anyone other than their target dead, but they have killed people who get in their way before too. Obviously you'll have to be careful."

Re: To Find a Way Home (Mamono Assault Force)

Orgrosh's stare beat him down hard. But what emotions did she feel? It had to be criticism. To say such things after what happened, of course it wasn't his place. But he knew it wasn't his place. He thought he made it clear. He'd yet to be much of an avatar for racial agreement due to his inability to sort a very intimate matter out with Orgrosh. He'd need some time, but perhaps he'd get a second chance at that? Everything happened quite fast that night. Such a delicate matter requires communication. They needed to talk about things first... Assuming he had a second chance... It was nice to feel optimistic for a moment. Better condition of spirit than pessimistic, which he immediately became once he realized her gaze probably meant, "No second chances, asshole."

The truth is painful, but the truth unknown was enough to make him quiver with fear.

On the topic of towns, indeed, he did see a lot of bad and little good... But there was good to be seen that few but he would pick up on. "I did see good. I saw the evil as well." Bakan announced. "The evil that plagues Badaria is ignorance. The people that feared my companion Orgrosh, I saw it. The ones I saw, who treated her unkindly... Did not know any better. Once I fought with Orgrosh, and won her over to trust me... In one of the most awkward fights I'd ever been in... I noticed that as the fear lessened, so did their hostility. The good people are confused. The confused people can end up hating for no reason because of irrational fear! We need to give Badaria knowledge. If everyone can see the situation for what it really is, the situation might improve drastically!" Bakan theorized. "Think of it. I've heard of orcs, and even fought them, who'd come down from Crolia. Yet their behavior does not match Orgrosh. Why? Because they were outcasts. All Badaria has seen from orc kind has been the worst of them. We need to show them the best." Bakan said with determination.

Bakan then nodded about keeping Dove's secret... A secret. Then, he was startled as he was scolded by Dove. "Don't say Sivicine?" Bakan questioned, before a second passed. Bakan's eyes went wide. "I-I said it without thinking! What happens when I do that!?" Bakan questioned, looking about nervously for some disaster or misfortune to befall him. He wasn't sure if he'd be cursed. He hoped not.

Though, if nothing happened. He'd deeply apologize, blaming himself for his ignorance for what the true meaning of the triple name saying meant. Quickly, Bakan would want to change subjects. "Ah... Yup! This is Rebecca!" Bakan announced cheerfully, directing to the coon on his shoulder. "I understand very little about her. Her story to me is a mystery, but she gave me one name... The goddess. As well as her own name, to help me confirm that I was speaking to a victim of a transformation." he announced.

Then came mention of the Nightstalker. One thing about what Dove said made Bakan wonder. "He? So it's a man?" he inquired. That sounded juicy. Though Dove quickly confirmed that he didn't actually know, but the rumors all suggested as much. So... That meant the true gender wasn't confirmed? "It sounds like a girl's nickname to me." Bakan said openly. Though he quickly added to his words. "Just has that elegant and dexterous feel to it." Bakan said, actually smiling, likely putting off an aura to the others that he didn't fear the Nightstalker at all. Rather, he almost looked excited, like a kid detective trying to discover a mystery. "Almost... Artistic..." Bakan hummed. "They sound like a pretty interesting person. They only kill their targets, as well... That means they deliberately make their job harder just to get the job done. I'd think any professional would lower the chances of failure as much as possible, so... Perhaps this Nightstalker isn't a bad person?"

"I agree," Dove replied to Bakan's suggestion that the real problem was ignorance, "people hate what they don't understand because it's easy, and it's comfortable. It's good to feel like you're better than someone else, even if it's a lie. If only we could understand each other, and empathize, I feel like we'd have a lot fewer disagreements. I mean, look at Acheron! They're thriving on subverting the expectations of the people around them, and even if they don't represent all demons they at least show that they can function as part of our society."

Bakan then nodded about keeping Dove's secret... A secret. Then, he was startled as he was scolded by Dove. "Don't say Sivicine?" Bakan questioned, before a second passed. Bakan's eyes went wide. As well as her own name, to help me confirm that I was speaking to a victim of a transformation." he announced.
Dove would shudder in horror briefly as Bakan spoke Sivicine's name again, and glanced around in alarm for a few moments before it became clear that nothing had happened. "Ahhh.... Heheh... Good," the nobleman said softly, chuckling and wiping sweat from his brow. "Oh, it's just that saying a daemon or powerful creature's name three times in quick succession is an integral part of summoning it," Dove explained, "I was worried that the goddess might take notice, but thankfully she apparently didn't."

Turning the subject to the women-turned-raccoon, Done would nod lightly as her name was confirmed, and despite the absurdity of the claim that followed Dove would simply nod in turn. "There are many legends of the gods doing things like that," Dove said, "I'd always wondered if any of them were true.... I guess at least one of them is!"

"It sounds like a girl's nickname to me." They only kill their targets, as well... That means they deliberately make their job harder just to get the job done. I'd think any professional would lower the chances of failure as much as possible, so... Perhaps this Nightstalker isn't a bad person?"
"So they say," Dove replied with a wave, dismissing Bakan's question about the Nightstalker's gender. He simply shrugged at Bakan's supposition, replying; "It's a popular nickname, not one they chose. It's not like an assassin can come out and give an interview... They'd be hanged." Dove also didn't seem to think terribly much of Bakan's supposition about their target's mercy towards potential collateral damage, "well, I guess that's... Plausible. As far as I've heard though, they simply never need to bother killing anyone but their target. Guards or other countermeasures rarely seem to have much effect, a guard or two occasionally being killed along the way to their main victim but most of them ending up bypassed. Not that it matters, since failing to protect a noble is.... Well, not well received anywhere, really. They used to exile people for it in the Amazon, and I'm pretty sure they killed people for it in Anudor. Hell, most guardsmen who fail to protect their lord will at best never get work again in Crolia or Badaria, though sometimes they'll just be executed for some trumped up charge as well, as an example to other guardsmen."

Finishing his increasingly depressing rambling, Dove would clear his throat and shrug again, "you do what you think is best.... But I wouldn't ever place a bet of any value on the moral fiber of a person who kills for money, especially given the alleged brutality they've shown to some of their victims. As for who they're targeting, my friend is named Artis, Artis Lardye. He's a lesser noble, his family raised from merchants to nobility some hundred years ago or so. He's the last surviving member of his house after his brother and his parents were killed in the Invasion, the sole owner of their remaining property. He has stock in a number of large farms, and owns several breweries and vinyards. He's a bit eccentric, and can be.... Abrasive... When he gets in a mood, but please be patient with him. I would, ahhh, warn your female companions that he is also something of a womanizer, though I suspect that anyone traveling with you can probably handle themselves just fine."

Re: To Find a Way Home (Mamono Assault Force)

Bakan nodded as his opinions were apparently shared. That was good, it helped Bakan reassure himself that he wasn't thinking foolishly, though on the bit about the Nightstalker, it appeared he was thought to be foolish. They even acted cruelly towards their victims? Well, that's saying perhaps little, as they are committing murder. But for what reason? Was it money alone? And Bakan didn't believe that the lack of deaths was entirely because they didn't have to kill the guardsmen. The fact that Bakan was thinking of was that they have no reason to let them live either. If they're an evil assassin, why take even a minor risk? He winced at the thought of a cocky assassin. That couldn't be right. That kind of attitude never did bode well for people he'd seen, even the skilled ones.

No... Their lives being spared couldn't just be a result of excessive skill. Intelligence and skill go together, and it's just not smart to rule out even just one man, as he might have the capability of spotting you or figuring you out. The few deaths reported besides the target could have been among those mishaps, where they didn't have a choice. The only explanation to him was truly cockiness, if it wasn't mercy. Cockiness didn't sound like a valid explanation.

So, Bakan sighed, especially so when he was told of the man's mannerisms. "Really?" Bakan inquired, looking exhausted. "Truly, really? A man seeking the rights of women, and yet he's abrasive and... Eccentric? As well as a womanizer. I realize there's a lot of different people in this world, but most whom I've met with those characteristics didn't seem to value women's rights highly at all... Rather, they opposed it. Why would that kind of man want for..." Bakan sighed, looking frustrated. "Is the world going insane, or am I? Though I suppose it was idealism. I hear of a man wanting for the rights of women, I pictured a polite and respectful fellow. Instead, I get a warning of his unsightly character. What next is it going to be? A pro-life necromancer fighting to get rid of pregnancy medication?" Bakan chuckled, though feared that Dove would confirm that was his next request. "Sorry... I've just been having a momentary madness as of late. My whole world's been flipped and turned upside down, and I would like to take a minute and just sit right here, but I imagine that I could use some details about this job. Where it will be, when, and... If I may, a more personal question perhaps..."

"Are you in charge, or is it the butler?" Bakan inquired. It was genuine confusion on his face. Always one to miss the obvious, Bakan sometimes noticed the unobvious. A trait that sometimes found him treasure.

Bakan would wait until Dove gave all the information about the job, before inquiring about better living conditions for himself and his friends, and bidding Dove thanks and farewell. Say what you want about things not making sense, if he was willing to provide so much, Bakan couldn't complain as much as he wanted to about how little sense everything made. Now, more than ever, Bakan decided.

'I need to meet this Nightstalker. Maybe they of all people can give me more clarity than I've ever gotten thus far.'

"Well, to be fair," Dove would replied patiently, "most would probably consider you and I eccentric, and given your choice of traveling companions some might refer to you that way too, whether or not it's true!" Shaking his head at Bakan's absurdist statement, he would be prepared to say something else before Bakan's question about the butler confused him again. Slightly affronted, it seemed, Done would flatly reply; "I am..... What kind of question is that?"

Shaking his head again, Dove would lean forward to look Bakan in the face, no longer being humorous as he continued to explain, "look, I'm just trying to tell you that Artis - my friend - is a bit of a character. He's afraid for his life, and it might make him act irrationally. He does respect women, but he also just... Likes having sex with them, too. Most men don't understand that the two ideas can be compatible, but he does, and given the stress he's under he might make a pass on one of your companions. I just want that to not be a surprise, for you and yours to understand the situation that he's in."

He would lean back again, folding his hands in front of his nose once more, and when Bakan asked about a place to stay he would simply jerk his head towards the butler, "Paul will show you to a wing where you and yours can keep your things and stay a while, but Artis' protection cannot wait long. You and anyone you trust to help protect him will be staying with him as a bodyguard until I can find the evidence I need to discredit the one trying to have him killed." Assuming that Bakan would do so, he could follow the butler, who seemed to hide his distaste at that point in the performance of his duties while showing Bakan, Orgrosh, and Samarta to a wing of Dove's expansive estates, with bedrooms already prepared as if guests had been expected.

Re: To Find a Way Home (Mamono Assault Force)

Bakan nodded when Dove seemed to find his question about the one in charge odd. "Ah, my apologies. When you said your butler wouldn't like it if we stayed over here, I briefly considered the possibility that the one in charge was not the face people spoke to and saw. I've heard plenty of strategies that rulers use to maintain stability and control over their territory, and among those is electing political figures to essentially speak the will of the one holding their strings. As it stands, you're already in a position that would make others hate you, and perhaps even want you gone, so the possibility seemed likely to me." Bakan explained himself. Twas a reasonable thing to expect from one in political power. It's not easy to maintain control when ones head can so easily be severed from their shoulders in the blink of an eye, or as a result of a single mistake. Some may think Bakan's question absurd, and may even call him retarded for it. But those people haven't a single clue as to how the real world works. Even less than he does.

Then, Dove explained Artis to Bakan, an explanation that made him indeed quite curious. "Many places I travel, my comrades are flirted with. It's only natural, because they're beautiful in their own right. Even I pay my respects to a beautiful lady, even if I've no perverse intentions. I don't condemn the act either, it's a natural desire. I thought your words about him, about Artis, was a warning about an unsightly character. Perhaps a man that can't take 'no' for an answer, and act like a borderline rapist." Bakan chuckled, and let out a sigh. A misunderstanding had formed, and part of that had to do with Dove acting like a man out for a little intimacy needed warnings to be given before others met him. It wasn't a praise of his character at all, other than the fact that he was going for women's rights. If Artis wasn't as bad as Bakan had thought, then it was Dove's fault for not allowing Artis to have a fair chance at a good first impression. If you're going to talk about someone whom your new friend has never met before, don't just talk about their bad sides, people might get the wrong idea. Honestly, it's the basics of communication! Still, Bakan had to clean up the mess that was made in their conversation. "As long as he's a reasonable character, a few quirks is fine. We've all got our flaws, but it's how we manage them that matters. But, ah... You sure did paint a rather bad picture of your friend. My motto is always to start with the bad, and end with the good. If he's your friend, I'm sure he's got some qualities that more than redeem the less popular traits about him. I'm sure your friends will be thankful in the long run for you letting their good points be known."

Then, in regards to the situation at hand, and their staying quarters, Bakan nodded, before bowing his head to Paul. "It's a pleasure to finally have the opportunity to address you properly by name, Sir Paul. Since having us here will be a hassle, I'll take care of whatever I can so as to be less of a burden on you. Despite my weapons and armor, cleaning and the like are not tasks that are below me." Bakan assured the butler, trying to ensure the man that he'll be as little of a hassle as possible to keep around. That hopefully includes his friends not engaging in sexual acts while they're here, with or without him. The aftermath of sex is always a mess. He doubt this gesture will improve the butler's attitude, but Bakan had already decided that the butler was an infuriating ass. Still, Bakan always tries to respect others as much as he can, even if they don't respect him.

"With some directions, I'll depart to Artis as soon as I can. I'll just need to inform the others and I'll head straight there along with whoever will come with me. I'll definitely need someone who has the best chance at detecting someone silent and invisible..." Though that was a lot to ask for. Still, Bakan had seen creatures during the demon invasion that could move through darkness as if moving through portals. Likely, this attributes to the assassins nickname. If they're attacking at night, it might be because they have this ability. So, the first step to defending Artis is to get him in a secure and completely lit room. His living conditions will unfortunately be uncomfortable most likely until the danger of his assassination has passed. Bakan goal of capturing the assassin still remains, as does the difficulty of such. There's still things he doesn't know that they can perhaps enlighten him with. No matter what can be said about people who kill for money, it sounds no different to him than a soldier fighting in a war. They kill people whom they don't know, and care little for whether or not those people are good or bad. Both are paid for their service. The only difference is that society seems to look more fondly upon one over the other. To Bakan, there is no difference. He is not a soldier.

Bakan's explanation about the reason for his question seemed to ease Dove's irritation somewhat, but he would allow the issue to pass by without further comment. On the subject of the man that he was to protect, however, Dove would shake his head slowly, "no.... Artis is a flirt, perhaps even a pervert, but he is most certainly not a rapist. I wouldn't be sending someone to protect him if he was, and the people who believe in the cause as he does wouldn't be working to protect him either. Rest assured that, while his manners may sometimes fail him, and that he likes to enact his, ahhh, charms a little bit too frivolously at times, Artis is a decent man. I find him more trustworthy than most, and he has as much dislike for injustice and bigotry as I do."

When his attention turned to the butler, the man would display no over emotional reaction to Bakan's promise to help clean up. "You needn't concern yourself sir," he replied smoothly as he gestured for Bakan and his companions to follow him, Rebecca once more taking up position on his shoulder while Orgrosh and Samarta moved to follow along behind him. "While it may look deserted here, that is simply because we keep things so clean that we normally need to do very little work here. The cleaning staff and I can take care of things, I assure you. The only thing I would ask is that you attempt to avoid causing a mess in the first place. Now, if you would be so kind as to follow me," he continued, and as Bakan and company moved off Dove would add; "I'll leave you an address and directions to get to Artis' place. Paul will see to your needs, I'll go and see what I can do about your goddess problem."

And with that, Bakan and his companions would be led to a set of lavish rooms, with huge, soft beds and all manner of fine furnishings. The oak wardrobes alone, despite seemingly forlorn and rarely used, were made of finely carved Amazonian mahogany and had inset crystal mirrors, each of them alone no doubt having a value comparable to Bakan's enchanted armor. "How many rooms will you be needing, sir?" Paul the butler would ask quietly when Bakan had been taken to an entire wing of the mansion that would seemingly be set aside entirely for him and his companions. After he had decided that, Orgrosh would look to Paul and say; "May you excuse us for a moment?" When he nodded in reply with a muttered "of course," she would motion for Samarta to follow them and dragged Bakan into one of the bedrooms, closing the door once Samarta had slithered in with them, and then turning to face him.

"I don't disagree that we should help this... Artis, but I don't think that all of us should go," the orc began simply, pragmatically. "It will be dangerous, and some of us are... Not suited to that sort of danger, or at least not prepared for it. Reputation or no, this assassin may try to kill us, and no one should be there that isn't prepared for that. It will be her choice and your permission more than mine that matter, but... I don't want Sarah there if we get into a fight, not if this person is as dangerous as they sound." Having said her piece, Orgrosh fell silent with a slightly grim expression on her face, her arms folded over her chest.

Re: To Find a Way Home (Mamono Assault Force)

Bakan scratched the back of his head as Dove went on further about Artis. There honestly wasn't a point to talking more about the man. Twas well established that Dove wanted them warned about his attempts to charm, but as long as he wasn't to the point of not understanding what 'no' meant, there was no reason for concern. If the man happened to be charming and someone like Samarta wanted to... Well, Bakan would just have to get over that weird tick in his head that actually caused him to be jealous over her. "I'm sure it'll be fine." Bakan explained, but didn't really have anything more to say on the matter. The warning was there, but he had to doubt that it required this much explanation. If he's not about to commit rape on his companions, it's fine. As long as they aren't robbed of choice all is well.

With that, Bakan was following Paul while Dove left promises of helping him with Sivicine. "All I need is information, but I appreciate how much you're willing to help me a great deal." Bakan said to Dove with a smile. "I promised Rebecca I'd help her. I wouldn't want someone else getting in danger, just in case." Bakan noted that he wouldn't want Dove getting incinerated just because he lent a helping hand.

Once walking with Paul for a bit, Bakan wondered for a moment, and told him how many people he'd have over. He wasn't sure of the situation behind how many rooms they could have and how many private rooms they'd want, and wasn't even wanting to claim one room as his own room, because he wouldn't want to take up all the space available just like that. The final answer would have to come from everyone else's decision and desires.

Though Bakan wouldn't be able to finish his thoughts too far before Samarta was asked to come along, and Bakan was treated as though he didn't know how to walk. Grabbed and dragged away, Bakan gave weak protests as he didn't know what the sudden dragging was about until they got into their own room. "You're absolutely right. It is dangerous. Sarah and Inka come to mind, both don't seem to me like they're seriously ready to take on something so infamously dangerous. They're not weak, but they may not be ready to face something like this. But it's as you say, it's Sarah's choice. Though if I'd have it the way I always prefer, only I would go, because I fear for all of your lives. However, I've been doing my best to trust more in my companions as best I can, so... If anyone claims they can do it, I'll have faith in them. I will be right there with you, protesting though, not limited to Sarah and Inka, but even you. I mean..." Bakan blushed, and lowered his head, averting Orgrosh's gaze. "Is it really fine by you to risk death by my side after what happened?" Bakan asked slowly. The answer he expected was something along the lines that her choice in the matter didn't involve him at all, or that it was something she considered herself doing for her own reasons, with Bakan uninvolved. In fact, he hoped for that answer. Mostly because it made sense, but also because he was a bit scared of the unknown of what else her answer could be.

If her answer was short, Bakan would pick himself back up if she shattered him with her words, or walk out with some to be known expression in search of his other comrades, to quickly redirect them to the estate and get their things over.

Bakan: HP = 102/120, PP = 45/45, EP = 65/85, Status = Fine

NPC Stats
Samarta: HP = 54, PP = 67, EP = 67, Status = Fine, Pregnant
Inka: HP = 51, PP = 61, EP = 44, Status = Fine
Rebecca: A coon. A fluffy fluffy coon.
Orgrosh: HP = 97, PP = 49, EP = 72, Fine
Sarah: Fine

Bakan's response to Orgrosh's concerns would have the orc retaining a very slight frown. "I don't plan on being killed," she replied calmly, "and it will not only aid me in understanding this place, but if this... Artis... Actually can change one of the foul things that take place in these lands, then maybe we can find an alternative to war."

With that she seemed content, and turned back to the door, her piece said regarding their companions. Outside, Paul would give them an address where they could find Artis, 417 Baker Street, and then were allowed to go. Samarta would continue with them, slithering along at their side, and she and Orgrosh again had to endure the withering atmosphere of Cheydin's people for their inhuman appearances. Sarah and Inka had gone to wait by the Eastern gate into town, where Cory and Rhep would be coming from, and that was the most logical place to go and search for them in turn.

After an hour long walk, roughly, they came upon the very gates to the city that they had entered from. Inka was quickly identifiable off to the side, the crimson skinned alraune hard to miss even in the loose crowd moving around the gates, and Sarah was right beside her. They were seemingly engaged in conversation with a figure wrapped in a gray cloak, a very animated conversation judging by the looks of it, but as they drew nearer Inka noticed them and waved. That drew attention to Bakan and those with him, and the cloaked figure stopped talking and tilted their head such that they could see him without revealing their face. They froze at the very sight of him for a few seconds, but a moment later they turned and began striding purposefully towards Bakan and threw back their hood.

Cory was walking towards him, Rhep's also cloaked figure revealed beside her for a moment before her storming steps drew the half-demon's cloak away from her sides and once again obscured the diminutive goblin. Rhep remained behind, however, leaving Bakan to confront only his lover. She looked pissed.

Re: To Find a Way Home (Mamono Assault Force)

So, she's not just looking for weaknesses. This is what Bakan realized the moment she said that. He didn't think Orgrosh would look for an alternative to war, not after their conversation prior. With that, as Orgrosh turned, he had to say something. He couldn't let this chance go. He reached out, and placed his hand on Orgrosh's back to get her attention. "I misunderstood you... I'm sorry, as pathetic as that is to say now." He said to her, then let her do with that what she will. They actually agreed on far more than he realized. Still, Orgrosh and her disposition was largely a mystery to him.

Bakan nodded to Paul and thanked him for the aid, before announcing to Dove along his way out that he was 'off to 417 Baker Street' as if were like a song and heading on his way. With Inka and Sarah off at the Eastern Gate, he had to at least tell them what was going on about their change in living quarters. That was when he saw them talking to a stranger cloaked in gray. It immediately made him suspicious, enough that he rushed forward to see who this stranger was. Right about when he was upon them, did their hood go back, revealing their face.

It was such a shock that it stopped Bakan in his tracks in front of her. To Cory's perspective, Bakan looked a lot smaller while he looked up at her with wide eyes mixed with shock and happiness. His wings had turned at first, a color of gold, before quickly turning blue. His cheeks turned a deep red, and his heart was racing. All the while, he was remembering the last thing that happened before they parted. His lower lip tensed, and his legs shook. Cory didn't need to remind him of any mistakes he made, he was already doing that to himself. So, like a child who did wrong, he sat down on his heels, and put his knuckles to the ground in front of Cory, making himself look smaller than her, just as he felt. He said nothing. Oddly enough, everything he had thought to say, he just couldn't. He felt as if his right to speak was revoked. Most of the things he thought of saying were annoying promises and statements of regret. None of which he thought Cory would care to hear. Still, as he searched, he did find one thing to say.

"There was no punishment greater than the regret I felt. I will never ignore you again." he stated, before breaking down. Tears running down his eyes as he scooped up Rhep, provided she didn't dodge, and held them both together in his arms. "I'm so sorry!" he cried, sobbing like a broken man, before repeating how sorry he was repeatedly, either until he ran out of breath or until someone told him to shut up. In such a case, he'd go quiet obediently.

I'm sorry, as pathetic as that is to say now." He said to her, then let her do with that what she will. They actually agreed on far more than he realized. Still, Orgrosh and her disposition was largely a mystery to him.
Orgrosh would pause when Bakan put a hand on her shoulder to stop her, looking back over her shoulder. The orc's lips were thin, forming a flat line, but she would nod in response to his apology, accepting it.

Cory returns!
Falling to his knees at the sight of Cory, he would be level with the half-demon's legs as she approached, and with the slight swell of her stomach which at that point contained his child. Her face was full of cold fury as she approached, her features at that point completely human, and the odd sight inspired some attention from the people around them as she came to stand directly in front him. Showing greater signs of mutation than she'd seen before, most notably his grown wings, she scowled down at Bakan for a moment, allowing him to silently beg for a moment before he finally broke down.

Rhep was still far away at that point, still standing near Sarah and Inka who remained by the gate, paralyzed in the wake of Cory's fury, but when he rose and apologized Bakan was simply kicked right back down via a sharp blow aimed right between his legs. No amount of sorrow, despair, or tolerance to pain would allow him to ignore so sudden an attack against a point that was so intensely sensitive, and if Bakan didn't collapse at once Cory simply aimed another shot at the same point, and another, until he did.

And when he was on the ground, writhing in agony, she coldly said; "I don't give a fuck how sorry you are!" She aimed another kick at his balls, though by that point his hands and clenched legs might have caused a protective barrier that would soften the blows enough that they were only painful. "You send us away," she grunted as another kick slammed into him, "to the middle of fucking Crolia," another kick, "by the magic of some gods-knows-who wizard," yet another kick, "and you think your regret is punishment enough? Fuck that!"

Two more kicks were sent, this time simply aimed at his stomach, "we just had to walk halfway across fucking Heloras on a GUESS that you would be here, and you think I want to hear that you're sorry!?" By that point her shouting had earned a crowd, many of whom were wincing in sympathy with the blows, which at that point ended for a few moments as Cory stood imperiously over Bakan with a scowl of boiling fury on her face, her red eyes almost literally blazing by that point. "You.... Fucking.... ASSHOLE!!!" she shouted, with one last kicked aimed in between his legs delivered for good measure before she began to heave with exertion and rage.

"You will not do that again," she said in a brittle, icy tone after standing for another few moments to recover her composure. "No more.... Making decisions," she panted through clenched teeth, at which point Rhep came forward, Sarah and Inka awkwardly trailing after the goblin. She, at least, didn't seem quite as furious at Bakan as Cory, and reached out a hand to pat him on the shoulder, "It's okay," the diminutive green-skinned girl said softly, "Rhep forgives you!" With that, she would do as he had intended earlier, and hugged Bakan while Cory still stood over him like a queen over an unruly subject.

Re: To Find a Way Home (Mamono Assault Force)

Bakan felt a little happy inside, but at the same time, he still had to wonder just who Orgrosh was. It would be hard to talk with her after this, but with this, it'll be much easier than before even though easier than impossible isn't saying much. Still, Orgrosh seemed to make her decision with that, at least in his eyes. He smiled, knowing that he'd get to keep his companion.

Then, at the gate, the sudden blow to his crotch did indeed drop him to his hands and knees. The result of her assault caused Bakan to throw up on the ground, because of the very good reason as to why you shouldn't kick someone in the balls. Still, despite that being the worst kind of pain, all Bakan could do while she went on was smile. "I'm so happy... You're okay...!" He declared shakily, before throwing up a little more on the ground. "Yay!" He declared with a smile up at the woman kicking him. It would take an extreme amount of pain and torture to make him do anything but smile, even if it was the most painful smile in the world because of his balls. However, some healing magic helped take care of that pain for the most part.

When Rhep hugged him, Bakan hugged her back, after cleaning his mouth of course. "Thanks Rhep, but seeing that you're okay was all I needed. I won't ever be doing something like that again." he promised. "But nevermind that, you guys must be starving!" Bakan said, standing up with a strained expression. Rhep and Cory willing, he'd take them back to the Inn, regroup with the others, establish the new place they were staying at, and ask the question after explaining the entire situation regarding women's rights and the man responsible for helping it along. "Who's with me?" he wondered aloud. Once that was decided, he'd figure out food for Cory and Rhep.

Rebecca: A coon. A fluffy fluffy coon.
Orgrosh: HP = 97, PP = 49, EP = 72, Fine

Rhep: Fine?

The sight of him throwing up would at least earn Bakan a little mercy from Cory, who would stop going for his balls after that despite her continued rage. Rhep would smile warmly at Bakan's reassurance, earning a pat on the head from the goblin before she broke away. "Mmmhhmmm," Cory murmured flatly, still scowling at him darkly, while Rhep would nod enthusiastically and rub her belly. Though all of his companions were now together in one place, Bakan would be able to lead them back to the inn, Cory scowling darkly at Bakan's back the entire walk, and then he would be allowed to explain the situation to them and then get Rhep and Cory lunch, the rest besides Samarta opting to abstain from eating if asked as the meals cost the same as what they'd cost last night.

The two whom he had just reunited with would listen, Cory intently and Rhep without seeming to pay much attention, while Sarah and Inka both paid full attention because they didn't actually know what had gone on at Dove's place. "So... You got yourself into trouble. I suppose it's not surprising," Cory said snidely. Before anyone could reply to his query over who would join him, Cory said; "I'm not going to put myself into any more danger while I'm pregnant. Before we go on to who's going with you though.... Questions."

She pointed at Samarta and Inka, "aren't they the ones who we were supposed to track down in the swamp? Specifically, track down and kill? I happen to recall that one," she jabbed an accusatory finger towards Inka, "dosing the three of us with pollen and preparing to rape us with some of her friends before someone else chased them off. What in Hell's name happened after you sent us off to Therion?"

After that was explained, Bakan would be have Rhep standing up, patting her belly contentedly. "I'll squish some dumb sneak! It'll be just like old times!" Rhep said gleefully. "You already know that I'm in," Orgrosh would chime in simply. "I, uhhh, might sit this one out. I don't want to risk the eggs," Samarta said, patting her slightly engorged belly and earning a furious look from Cory. The half-demon had already made her answer, but Sarah would rise to stand beside Orgrosh, "I'll go with." She seemed unsure, nervous, but stood stalwartly, and though Orgrosh offered a slight frown it was sent in Bakan's direction rather than at the corrupted girl, and she offered no disagreement. That left Inka, who seemed unsure of what to do, glancing between Samarta and Bakan for a few moments before eventually going over to stand beside the serpent-woman while looking slightly apologetic towards Bakan.

Re: To Find a Way Home (Mamono Assault Force)

The way back was what he'd expect. A second person was angry at him, though with Cory, he felt more confident that he'd be able to come back from it. Cory was pissed because she loved him, understandably. He knew that much. If she didn't feel for him, she might have just stayed in the northern location she was sent to, or wouldn't have made the trip at all. No doubt she was ready to go all the way back to that swamp if she didn't find him here. No doubt. Still, he knew why Cory was angry most of all. It only made him happier to know that she made it back okay despite the risks she took in her flustered state. Half of him wanted to mention that a lot of her dangerous trek could have been avoided if she had just stayed where she was, but the other half knew it would only piss her off further. If there was ever a time to break that news to her, it would be when she was severely less angry.

Then, Bakan would explain the purpose of Samarta and Inka. "Inka is not the one who doused us. The one who doused us is dead. As well, the one who saved us from being raped was Samarta herself. She went on to save me numerous times after the fact, and both she and Inka are one of the main reasons I managed to make it here. Their intentions were obviously good, as well as horribly misunderstood. So, we worked together to desperately fight the apparent supernatural spirit that had taken over a giant shorn plant, larger than a building. Some evil spirit had inhabited the alraune who was red, or maybe the evil spirit was her own soul. Either way, we killed her, and she tried to invade Inka." He purposefully left out the part where he was told what the evil spirit could do to Inka. It would take too long to explain the amount of stress and changes he went under during that time of struggle. As far as memory served as well, Cory wasn't aware of his wings ever turning black. It was best she didn't know. She didn't need more things to worry and stress over, and it was probably nothing anyway. He hadn't noticed it ever popping up or bothering him after the fact, so it was in all likelihood, a momentary madness.

"It was unsuccessful, as Inka apparently fought with it and won." Bakan concluded. "Though in the process, her skin turned red. I've no idea why, but equally strange things have happened." He referred to his colorful wings, which would faintly shimmer different colors if one paid attention, depending on his mood. As well, Bakan still was unaware of any other developments in his spirit and body. Were the angelic wings the only thing? Or was he also developing angelic traits that he wasn't aware of? Who knew if he was turning into some kind of neo-angel. The most identifying trait was the wings, but that didn't mean too much. The second most was their ability to see into the future. As long as that wasn't happening, Bakan was safe to think that his angel-like traits were just benign and he was just being more nervous than he should be.

Then, his group would assemble. Quite a small one. Rhep, Orgrosh... And Sarah... That last one, Orgrosh had talked with him about, although the situation was certainly one he didn't enjoy Orgrosh putting him into. In his mind, he felt a little cheated. 'You've known her longer than me, and yet why am I being stared at? I feel like Orgrosh is being cruel to me.' Bakan thought to himself, but there was no helping it. Bakan had to answer the situation if Orgrosh wasn't going to. Though, what was the best way to do this? Outright refusing Sarah out of the blue was hardly the best approach. It was the fastest, to be sure, but it wasn't fair to Sarah at all. It was Orgrosh's idea that Sarah is not ready to face such a skilled and mysterious opponent. Bakan was inclined to agree... But it wasn't fair at all. It was difficult, and Bakan would stand there, thinking for a moment with a difficult expression on his face. In the end, he'd have to put himself in Sarah's shoes. What would he want if he felt his ability to help was in doubt?

Then, it clicked in his mind. It was the best solution he could think of. "Rhep, follow Orgrosh. Orgrosh, you know where Artis is, correct? Go there. And both of you remember that he apparently thinks with his lower half first. Try not to break his arms if he upsets you by flirting with you too much, but definitely break his arms if he touches you without consent. He'll hopefully know better." Bakan informed them, before looking to Sarah. "Sarah... There's a matter I need to speak with you about before you come and help us. If you'd be so kind, come with me to the outskirts of the city. I think this matter will be best kept between us." He said, and left it at that. Merely a private matter. So if Sarah feels ashamed about it, Bakan will secure that only they know about it. She won't be shamed in front of the entire group, and Bakan will definitely keep it a secret. "Everyone else, follow Samarta back to Dove's place. He's offering us very nice rooms to sleep in. I'll trust you all to set up the rooming arrangements, and who will stay with who." He said, with a slight glance at Cory, before looking to Sarah. Cory was free to decide if the Key Bakan gets when he shows up back at Doves is to her room or an empty one. Letting things be decided this way would allow for the least possible awkward result.

Once everyone was on their way, Bakan made sure to tell Samarta to take care of Rebecca, as Bakan would apologize to Rebecca quietly, whispering to her as she sat on his shoulder. "Don't worry, I haven't forgotten about you. Dove will hopefully allow everything to go smoothly. Ideally, your curse will be lifted. Just hold on a little longer, okay?" He said with a smile, before scratching her head and giving her to Samarta. Whatever Dove's plan was, Bakan had a feeling it'd involve forcing Sivicine to appear. Though hopefully whatever Dove would come up with would allow the best scenario for Bakan to speak while in the best regards he can be in the eyes of the deamon. The last thing he'd want is to be turned into a bunny.

If all went as expected, Bakan would lead the way to the outside of the city, going off the road and finding a quiet spot, hopefully out of earshot of anyone along the road. He wouldn't want the guard coming because civilians were hearing strange things. "Sarah." Bakan began, lifting his hammer over his shoulder and standing straight, his face serious as he turned around to face her. "I have my reasons for doing this, I just want you to know that, no matter how unfair or strange this may seem... But..." Bakan sighed, taking a combative stance. "I don't think you have what it takes to help me." he stated honestly. "But, I'm giving you the chance to prove me wrong. The assassin may very likely be more skilled and more powerful than me. You don't have to defeat me..." Since Orgrosh technically didn't defeat him in their previous fight. "... You just have to confirm that you have what it takes. I apologize in advance for this outrageous demand." Bakan announced, bowing his head to Sarah, though his expression would tell her that he was firm about not letting her come with him if she refused or failed to meet his standards. If Orgrosh was right, then it was better if she didn't come. However, Sarah still deserved that chance to prove both of them wrong. Everyone deserves that chance.

"Oh," Cory replied, accepting Bakan's explanation regarding Inka without argument or further questions.

As he delivered his instructions, Bakan would receive a number of nods, first from Orgrosh and Rhep, then from Sarah who seemed surprised at his request while Cory would narrow her eyes, and finally from Samarta. "Come on fluffy," the serpent-woman said, gesturing for Rebecca who would lean into his ear-scratching before leaving Bakan to climb up onto Samarta instead.

Leading Sarah out of Cheydin, and then away from the road as well, the formerly human girl who so resembled his adoptive mother would appear more and more confused, particularly when Bakan drew his hammer and turned to face her. His statements would take the girl by surprise, and she looked worried, almost frightened, but she would not step away as he faced her and offered a challenge to prove herself. "Well... If you think it's necessary," she said in dismay as she slowly drew the greatsword held over her back and settled into a fairly stable battle stance, her weapon held in both hands in front of her and slightly tilted toward her. The weapon itself was obviously of Badarian make, though it followed the style of Orgrosh's fairly well in length and width. It did lack the fiery enchantment that was present on the orc's blade, however.

"I understand. Lady Orgrosh has been teaching me how to fight," she said, "I don't think I'm very good yet. She always beats me. But... I am learning, and I am not afraid." Even though her voice shook, she seemed ready, waiting for Bakan's confirmation that they were starting.

Re: To Find a Way Home (Mamono Assault Force)

"Again, I apologize for all this. I know of how well Rhep and Orgrosh can fight, so I just wanted to know about you as well." he explained himself further. "I tried to think of a way that would shame you the least. I promise to you, Sarah, I'll tell no one else what we did or talked about here. This won't be a contest to uphold your honor and respect." he declared. "Remember, don't try to go for wounds. Just try to disable me." he instructed her. Both combatants were under the same restriction. They couldn't simply lash out and strike one another with intent to harm. Bakan would have fetched some fake weaponry if he could, but it would no doubt be hard to find suitable replacements made of wood so easily. So this would have to do.

"Steel thy blade!" Bakan called out, before charging at Sarah. He had to see how she reacted to pressure. If Bakan went on the offensive, no doubt he'd get a good first-look at how she could handle herself in a battle. The most important part to get over is the fear. It's what kills most men, when they freeze up in the middle of combat and forget to move. It was the same fear that landed him in the world he was in. A terrible fear.

Sarah willing, it'd be a simple sparring. There was no denying the slight risks, but there was no point to hurting one another here. Hopefully Sarah respected that.

Re: To Find a Way Home (Mamono Assault Force)

Bakan: HP = 120/120, PP = 45/45, EP = 85/85, Status = Fine

NPC Stats
Samarta: HP = 54, PP = 67, EP = 67, Status = Fine, Pregnant
Inka: HP = 51, PP = 61, EP = 44, Status = Fine
Rebecca: A coon. A fluffy fluffy coon.
Orgrosh: HP = 97, PP = 49, EP = 72, Fine
Sarah: Fine
Cory: Pregnant
Rhep: Fine?

"I know how to spar," Sarah said sharply, her tone edged with tension and nerves. When Bakan rushed her, Sarah did not back away or freeze, holding her ground against his charge and shifting back onto one foot as she brought her greatsword around. True to the spirit of the engagement, she softened her blows and was careful to make sure that they never connected with anything but the haft of Bakan's hammer. She tried to deflect the momentum of his strikes rather than stop them squarely, at which she was actually reasonably successful, but her lack of experience against anyone but Orgrosh would show. The orc's wild one handed swings had had great power and had been surprisingly precise, but deflecting them hadn't been difficult. Bakan's swings, using the strength of both arms, were much harder and also came from directions that she wasn't used to.

Combine that with the obvious difference in sheer ability, and Bakan would be shown as decidedly more capable, though not before Sarah managed a fairly impressive move in which she not only deflected one of his attacks with one of her own, but deflected it such that her attack continued into him, leaving the edge of her greatsword hovering less than a foot in front of his face. They managed to get through the next five minutes without hurting one another, resulting in Sarah being a bit sweaty, her skin glistening and her body flushed with exertion, but Bakan's limits would not be seriously tested where endurance was concerned.

Re: To Find a Way Home (Mamono Assault Force)

Bakan was calm. He wasn't looking to win, and for that, Sarah managed an impressive move. Instead, he was more looking to see how well she handled herself... And the truth was... Not at all. She was only used to one opponent, even if her potential was amazing. She was like a fast horse that was taught to only run in circles. Out in the open field, it doesn't know how to run. It was similar here. Sarah only knew how to fight Orgrosh. With Bakan as her opponent, she was out of her comfort zone. This would be unacceptable. The opponent they would face is nothing anyone can expect. Sarah is an amazing learner, and what she needs to learn is adaptability. No doubt Orgrosh knew this too.

The end result, Bakan was looking at a tired yet determined Sarah. It just wasn't good enough. He wanted to sugar coat it, he didn't want to deliver the words that would hurt her pride, but to not do so would put her in serious risk. He had to refuse her. So, with a heavy sigh and complicated expression on his face. His wings also turned a dark shade of blue. "Your potential is outstanding." Bakan announced, with an emphasis on her potential. "But you have a weakness fighting an opponent you haven't encountered before. It almost looked as if you expected me to fight like Orgrosh, even if subconsciously. Quick thinking is required, and to do that, you need to fight lots of different opponents." Bakan declared. "The opponent we will face is probably one of the most dangerous people in the world. I don't even consider myself qualified to fight them. So, in a way, I have an inclination to not fight with them, though not just for that reason alone... But the point of the matter is, I have some faith in my ability to survive, as well as faith in the others." He declared. "Whatever you ask, I'll make it up to you. But I must insist that you do not aid us on this mission." Bakan insisted to her. "If you had begun your training even as early as a year earlier, I doubt that I would deny you here. You just haven't reached your full potential yet."

After they were finished and Bakan delivered his verdict on the young woman's abilities, he could practically see the argument's forming as her expression shifted quickly into a frown. There had obviously been a bit of pride stung at his decision to exclude her despite the impressive display that she'd given, and his attempts to soften the blow did little to assuage that sting. Despite that, however, Sarah kept her initial reaction perfectly bottled up beyond what showed on her face, and after fighting internally for a few moments she heaved a deep sigh and then nodded. "Of course.... Sir," she said through slightly clenched teeth, "I understand. I will wait with Samarta and Cory." Sarah sheathed her sword slowly and carefully, examining it for damage in a practiced manner as she did so, and then awaited anything more from Bakan.

Re: To Find a Way Home (Mamono Assault Force)

Bakan began to head back to town. If Sarah tagged along until the two would have to break, he'd add just a little more on. "Don't call me sir." Bakan stated, surprising himself with how strict he sounded. "My name is Bakan Jeru, Sarah. I am your comrade. And comrades look out for each other." he declared. "I also won't have you sit on the sidelines with the others, if you're willing. It'll be too obvious what happened between us, and I'd rather the others not realize it. The whole point of this was to ensure that you weren't shamed in front of everyone." He said, before going on.

"I need your help for something rather specific. You can ask Samarta and Cory for help." He began. "It's a job for someone who's got a better head on their shoulders than me... I need you to try and figure out who might be behind the contracted assassination for Artis. I imagine the assassin will only get paid if the person who put out the contract remains to pay it. So, if you can locate the one responsible, we might be able to prevent the assassination altogether instead of waiting for it to happen." he declared.

"You're smarter than me, Sarah. I don't doubt that. And something like that requires intelligence. Can I count on you?" Bakan inquired. He just wanted to find a use for her, but the more he thought about it, the more it made sense. This task might even be more important than the defense against the assassination itself. If Sarah did this, she could prevent everyone's potential death. "If you're successful, then there won't even be a need for me or Orgrosh defending. You could even be potentially saving our lives." He announced, before taking her hand and clasping it between his own. She was mad at him, so he had to establish that she wouldn't be doing it just for him.

"I promise I won't make this a waste of your time. Now or later, ask whatever favor you want from me. I will grant it. Your job could end up being the most important of all. I need you."

Once Sarah had given her answer, Bakan would head to where Orgrosh and Rhep were no doubt waiting. It was time to defend and hope Samarta pulled off a miracle.
