Re: Tentacle Souls

I suggest Magic Missile for yon freebie, then Perception and Aura Detection 2. 55 sounds like a nice number.

Growth is fuckin' expensive - and, well, we're a wizzad. We can get huge once we've got the whole wizzad fireballs and lightning jizz thing going. Plus, we -just- got stealth - I imagine growth makes sneakery harder.

Incidentally it would also make it harder to yakety sax into someone's mouth and then cast spells into their gut, which I kinda really want to do to someone.

Ask she:
- Why she and the others are locked up in here, and for how long she's been.
- Who the fuck that necrofishmancer was, what he's capable of, and what the fuck he's doing - perhaps he's cackled maniacally about something lately?
- Who/what the guards are
- If there's a merdude town or something around here that isn't slaved to the zombangler
- Ask for a situation thing in general
- If she'd like to maybe go out for coffee if she isn't too busy sometime maybe
- If she'd like a pearl necklace even though that probably won't work since it'll just float around in the water and shit
- And if she happens to know any helpful krakens that could eat him for us, or perhaps maybe a spare depth charge there might be just a'lyin' around to sneakily hurl at the fucker.

Then I suggest we persuasively suggest another round of hot fish dickings (and use it to get the electric eel evolution, hurr). If she refuses (what a cold fish hurr durr) go scope out the guards and look for maybe like some kind of barracks, or an office that could perhaps hold some kind of magic 'key' to the shielded cell or something.
Flopping to this!

Re: Tentacle Souls

Option 2 wins!

----

There's only one way out of this sticky situation. Well, actually there are lots of ways, but only one solution has a chance of preventing it ending in tears for someone.

You frantically pour energy into evolving Aura Detect II -
We have aura detect II already

Growth II for free with ooze and infest for now

Questions

Who are the guards?
How did a pretty mermaid like your self get thrown in here?
Who runs this place?
Where is an exit?
Would you follow me out of here?

B or C2 depending on last answer also hold off on option 3 till we get some info

Free evolution: Growth II
Others: Swim II and Magic Sting II

B1, if it's possible for them to get far enough away to at least provide a distraction, if not actually escape. In order to find this out, ask about the prison's layout, size and security. If releasing anyone will rapidly bring doom down upon our tenta-head (as far as she knows) then only free her since she looks able to be of help

B1, with Growth II as our freebie.

Also I would suggest Aura Detect II and Magic Sting II so we can better see our opponents strength and be able to defend ourselves better.

*Unlurks self*
Growth. Gonna need it. No point infesting anything right now, since we're switching dimensions soon. Are we?
Grow: Slime, Magic Sting. Not like the average joe's gonna do much, but it's better than shit.
Also ask about WTF's going on around here? Along with her name.
And ya, Option C2. This is no time to be a cold fish. We already waited for the paladin Whatsherface to adapt. There's a mermaid wet, willing and with one hand chained (still, hopefully) to the wall.

Re: Tentacle Souls

Righto, ask away the questions.
As for mutations: Get Magic Sting II. Be it free or not, we'll need it.
But C2 we're already at risk to be banned from the Tentacles-r-us club :D

Re: Tentacle Souls

Interesting voting! Growth II wins the 'free evolution' choice by a land slide, and tallying up the rest of the votes, most of you voted for 2 extra evolutions, and the two that recieved the most votes were Magic Sting II and Perception I!

It was very tight between B/1 and C2, but B1 edged it by just one vote!

----

The time has come again. Whilst you drew on the energy during the sex to evolve Growth II (it sure is nice to be in a bigger body - more akin to a snake than a worm) you still have plenty left over. So more evolutions are in order!

Concentrating, you shift and writhe, burning the energy inside you. You refocus it... and produce extra sensory cells on the outer layer of your body, perfect for detecting small chemical changes. A new sense of power also flares inside you, and you know instinctively that you can shoot more powerful magical blasts now.

Feeling a little drained but otherwise quite satisfied, you turn to speak to the mermaid, only to find she's been watching the whole process. With some quizzically raised eyebrows.
You don't feel the need to explain yourself, and immediately begin the questioning.

"So. What's this place?"
"A jail. What else does it look like?"
"Who built it?"
"Don't know. It's been here for hundreds of years, but... it was mostly empty until recently."

You hazard a guess a guess at to why.

"The ugly brute? Looks a bit like a partially decomposed anglerfish with limbs?"
"You know him?"
"We've met."
She laughs.
"Didn't go well for you, I bet?
No-one knows his name. He arrived out of nowhere a year or so ago and almost single-handedly devastated our society. Assassinated the Mer Council, locked up the remaining dissenters here...
"
"What about the zombie merpeople?"
"Hah. You notice he carried a scepter in his right hand? Black, sort-of glowing? By himself the Anglerman isn't all that strong - hardly weak, but no deity either - but that scepter is staggeringly powerful. Before he defeated me I could practically taste the aura coming off it. It's that scepter he uses to zombify us."

She stops and glances guiltily aside, as though afraid she's said too much. Bored of swimming on the spot in front of her, you coil your rear end around a metal bar of her cell front.

"Say, are you going to let me out or not?"
"Maybe. A couple more questions. I assume he used his scepter to overpower the society here and lock you all up. But why bother? Why not just kill you all and make you his puppets?"
"He likes to experiment. The guards of this place? He made them. He's probably got other ideas as well. Beyond that, I don't actually know, it's just my personal theory. I don't see any other reason for him to keep us all locked up."
"Anyone actually know what his plan is?"
She frowns at you, as though deciding how much to say.

"...I assume even someone as weak as you noticed the Archcrystal fragment in the main hall? It's aura drowns out even the scepter's, and trust me, that's quite an achievement. So think about it. He's got an Archcrystal fragment, as many zombies as he needs, an instrument of collosal power... do you think that possibly he's looking for a way to break into another dimension and wreak his havoc? It's not a massive leap.
C'mon, seriously, let me out now.
"

You sigh resignedly. It was good whilst it lasted.

Swimming over to the back of the cell, you examine her manacle. It's fairly sturdy and new, but no match for a tentacle of your power. You coil around the cuff, and burn through the metal with some of your energy reserves.
The metal breaks, and the mermaid yanks her hand free, immediately running her other hand over her sore wrist.

Paddling over to the front of the cell, you examine the metal bars for any weakpoints. It doesn't take long for you to discover that the hinges holding the metal bar door on are pretty rusty, so you scoot over to those and fry them with another small burst of magic. With an ear-piercing metallic screech, the door drops forward, and lands on the stone floor of the corridor with a noticeable clang.

The mermaid swims up to the front of the cell with just one burst from her tail, and looks hurriedly at the corridor outside.

"Quick, you've probably alerted the..."

She turns to the right, and freezes. Her voice drops to a whisper.

"guards..."

Oh god. You look over, and immediately feel sick.

It's quite clear it used to be a Merman. The physique is the same, but everything else...

Instead of a tail, he has a shifting dress of tentacles. Not puckered, gripping tentacles, but scaled, hard tentacles, almost more like snakes. The torso is thick and muscled, with one arm carrying a buzzing golden trident.
But the head. Oh God, the head. It's covered in a thick, pulsating mass of shapeless blood-red flesh, reminiscent of a jellyfish. Strands of the jelly-like substance run up and into the nose, ears and mouth of the merman. Waves of light run down these strings - conveying signals? Orders?

Beneath the translucent red layer, you see the Merman's eyes wheeling frantically about, whizzing blindly around in their sockets. Yet somehow he's still facing you. His scaled tentacles twitch, and he swims closer...

----

Option 1) Swim away! Swim away! And hide.
Option 2) We can take him! Use magical attacks, and with the Mermaid backing you up, everything might be fine...
Option 3) Use Magic Stings to knock the Mermaid straight into the guard. Use the ensuing distraction to escape.

Status:
Health: 30/30
Energy: 50/85 (-30 for evolutions, -5 for breaking locks and doors and stuff).
Morality: 18/100 (noble).

Evolutions:
- Infest I (allows you to latch onto hosts and drain energy. Try and do it when they won't immediately notice and squash you).
- Slime Ooze I (secrete slime that can be both sticky and slippery. Further upgrades allow you to do much more with it).
- Scale Armor I (More protective against spells and phsyical attacks than Slime Ooze, but much less multi-purpose).
- Ovipositor I (Allows you to lay eggs within the orifice of a host. At low levels, these eggs are weak and may not hatch properly. Further upgrades reduces this risk. Each egg costs 10 energy to plant, but the hatched tentacle is autonomous and commanded by you).

- Magic Shield II Erects a magical barrier around yourself. It's not impenetrable, but it's a pretty close second.
- Perception II (20 Energy. Use body language and other subtle, chemical clues to put together a general hint of what someone is feeling at any given time. Is that a molecule of sweat? They're nervous. Are their fingers tapping? Clearly impatient.)
- Aura Detect 2.55 (20 energy. Your sense of auras is refined, and you can see them from a great distance and judge their power levels more accurately. Also allows you to faintly detect Cursed auras).
- Stealth II (20 energy required. Become even sneakier).
- Swim II (20 energy required. Can you guess what this evolution does?)
- Body Shock II (20 Energy required. A powerful wave of magical energy runs over your skin. Akin to picking up a live electrical wire. Obviously limited to close-range combat, though).
- Growth III (30 energy required. Grow to a chunky, 6-foot long python, complete with split heads.)
- Magic Sting III (30 Energy required. Costs 5 energy to use, but a direct hit will send most foes flying off their feet).

Re: Tentacle Souls

Were too slow to run away now, so 2. fight back by spamming our improved magic missiles. Also how much energy is required for magic shield II?

EDIT: I also suggest purchasing magic shield II. Since were magical tentacles it would give us better defenses; should we need it down the road.

Oops. All level II spells cost 20 energy.

Where theres one guard there's more, so a fight will be dumb
We're neither a quick swimmer or good at hiding so 1 is out too

Re: Tentacle Souls

But we just saved her... Heck by my head best course of action would be to coil around the mermaids waist and get the fudge out of dodge. A mermaid should be WAY faster than whatever that thing is, not mention our feeble swim speed.

Whatever the case 1
It's a mutated undead, no way in hell is it gonna go down.
