In all honesty it's probably not selling well because of the cover art and demo. Most people will judge an entire game based on the cover art and demo and the demo especially isn't really fun at least in my opinion.

Sales don't technically mean your game is bad, Its not high in standards it's just you have a lot of competition with the other 10000 rpgmaker games that came out at the same time most of witch people Pirate and have poor sales aswell.
New and fresh ideas with decent and enjoyable gameplay , flashy pictures/ high quality artwork and good story get people more engaged into the game so they continue to play and usually get other people to recommend it and advertise your game to others.
Maybe if you put "Dragon Quest princess escape" you would of tippled your sales on Japanese dlsite.

Re: princess escape

I think someone on the dlsite made some horrific shit stain of a game and named it Dragon Quest something just to prove a point that the Japanese population will buy anything with Dragon Quest in it's name. It sold pretty well IIRC until the user got banned.

It was the guy who made those BF Rpg Maker games with the blonde girl and the pokemon BF game.

i can actually think of several valid ways of having a game have dragon quest in the title, considering the dlsite way of avoiding copyright infringement, i mean a story about a dragon sealed away and a prophecy
plot twist: THE MAIN HEROINE IS THE DRAGON...

It's not that it was a copyright issue that he/she got banned, it's that the game pretty much was nothing that it said it was, but people still bought since it had Dragon Quest in the name.

It was a nice game

I think the main reason it was a low sales is

Because the CG factor
People will always judge it by the cover

So , improve Your Art more
Though , I can't even draw like You

And sry for bad english.

better english than most :3 either that or i just naturally translate mistakes without realising lols...

my other threads on other sites aren't getting any audience...but every time this get's attention for a bit i seem to make an extra sale ^_^ meaning i just hit my first £150...

i'm also looking into getting someone to translate it into japanese for me...as i think that would help boost dlsite sales a bit

Re: princess escape

I'm somewhat amazed that this game is almost impossible to pirate.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that your Game is bad, but I never paid for my H-Games. Would rather spend my Money on WarZ or Gw2..

So, I searched for your Game a bit. The Cover is interesting, and the Idea of an english RPG-Maker Game is a little bit new.

I couldn't find the right files. No Torrent, just 2 different Links for this Game. And those 2 Links had a corrupted .RAR file.

So, I guess that your Game hasn't reached much popularity yet, not even these H-Sharing Sites like hentai4daily are robbing your Game.

This reminds me of Kunoichi Ninpocho. The Art is bad, but the Gameplay was amazing. I haven't played your Game yet, but I guess those japanese guys can't read english and will never get a chance to enjoy your Game. Maybe your Combat system is to complicated?

Me? I'll wait. Someday there will be a Torrent or working Link. Someday.

There is a big difference between "rape" and beeing "overpowered" by a stronger person and have sex with that one.
There are some studies which say that alot women actually enjoy beeing "overpowered", trying to resist but yet the man above them... that "beast" cant control his urges and just needs you... wants you and desires you, only you... and takes you. That is basicly some form of rape, but the difference is that the woman who gets overpowered/(raped) has a "rapist" which they find attractive (and even desire them too) and not some ugly, fat and smelly guy.

I wouldnt say that the game is totally shitty... its just that the quality of the game is rather low, but I see alot potential in it.

There were several things which I didnt liked (besides the bugs :p) and one of them was the layout of the city/buildings. Everything felt very artifical and not like a real world. Did you played the "revised sim brothel" which "You Win The Prize" showed us on the forum? The world looks much more real and doesnt feel as artifical, hence I look forward to to see a final version of it.
The princess room looked more like a library.
The treasure room right next to it was strange.
The castle was pretty bland all in all and not that overhelming.
The garden was a nice idea but could have done much more like a garden labyrinth.
The second town was devoided of persons and felt very artifical aswell.
The empire town was very strange too. You had small houses in the living area which all looked the same and were clustered together, the smithy didnt looked like a real smith and all in all the layout made the city feel very artifical.
The feeling that everything is artifical and not really a world run like a thread through the whole game.
The simple "Follow the PC"-AI of the guard enhanced that feeling.

The strenght of the game were the selfmade CGs (still wish there would be more) and the different paths you could choose.
I think if you fix the bugs, make the world feel more real and include more CGs/sexscenes, the game would sell much better.

A good example of a game which do that is "A Dance With Rogues" (ADWR) which is a mod for NWN. The game still has a fanbase after years and alot of players. The story of ADWR equals your one... a country gets sieged so the princess has to flee. In ADWR she ends up in a underground thiefs guild which secretly reign over the city, even before the country got invaded.

Anyway, imagine you would have different stats of your mainchar like lust which builds up over time and lewdness which defines how much she likes all these actions which happen to her.
Now after the castle got invaded she tries to flee and you run through the castle. Everywhere you see dead soldiers, some soldiers fight still and you just try to get out.
Suddenly you meet a group of friendly soldiers who seem capable of defending themself and they offer you to guard you and get you out of the castle. Now you can decide if you want to follow them, or try to sneak off on your own.
Maybe you even get captured when you walk the wrong path and you need to hide... or you find some disguises and try to disguise yourself as maid, or soldier or kitchengirl... maybe you even have a disguise skill which defines how good your disguises are and now you need to act like a totally different character as everyone would notice that there is something fishy about a snobby uptide kitchengirl.

Eventually you finally get out of the castle, it is night and some buildings are burning. You have invaders patroling the streets, see a group of ppl listening to a invader who tells them the rules they have to follow and you try to hide in the shadows and move along... either disguised or you just try to sneak out. Of course some civilians will notice you which offers again alot possiblities to drive the plot on.

Now it all depends on how you play, you you procede and what your own goal is. Do you just want to survive and maybe life as normal civilian? Maybe you have bad luck and become a whore... either free willing or more or less drugged/forced.
Or do you want to free your kingdom? Do the invaders maybe catch you and plan something with you?

Such a game would sell much better, but it is also much much much much much much^gogolplex harder to pull of and involves alot of work... work of maybe even half a year, a year or even longer.
If you want big sales, you need to split from all the other games out there. You need to be special and unique on your own while maintaining a high quality.

Anyway, that are just my 10 cents to that and hope you dont get demotivated now. ^^

P.S I'm abit tired, so my english is even worse as normally, sorry for that... I know I should proofread everything again, but I'm not in mood now. :p

Re: princess escape

I also remember that I've bought a lot of crap on dlsite before noticing that almost all good games are shared on torrents or one click hoster sooner or later.

I bought this game to support your work now and played it for maybe around 15 minutes.

"I wouldnt say that the game is totally shitty... its just that the quality of the game is rather low, but I see alot potential in it."

Second this comment here.

I hate it when NPCs have absolutely nothing to say.

Also the game seems incomplete to me. I just finished this strange quest with the missing necklace in the bar and the npc is asking me for the necklace again. o0

I second this guy's observations.
It is frustating when the NPCs have nothing to say. Seems weird.
Got that event with the necklace. Felt incomplete, as did the event with a girl asking for a pet, me buying her a pet, and her asking for a pet all over again.

also, being caught by demons at night did nothing. Actually, it locked the game, as I could not move, and nothing happened.

the demon one has never happened before...there was a similar issue with the slimes but i honestly don't know what causes it...

you can only do the kitten one until you have 4 points, but for some reason she doesn't say something instead...i mean the event is there... but it doesnt trigger...hmmmm when i get time i'll expand on it...was thinking of releasing an updated version with a bit more content for free with my next big game...

Re: princess escape

Ok, I've had my fair share of the game with the 3 hours I put into it.

My initial impressions of the game that hung with me the entire time was that it felt "incomplete". At the very beginning of the game you begin in a room with no back story or nothing to build on any of the characters. So I guess I'm just going to be generic b**** # 1. A very quick, rushed cutscene happens which you the basic idea of your castle being over-run and you have to hide.

This was when I got my first h-scene. Nothing really special, the artwork is alright but after rummaging through thousands of galleries in my experience this has little ability to turn me on. The only thing in these rpg games that usually gets anything out of me is a scene, the text contained some mildly exciting erotica, but the lack of any animation that goes with it underplays it entirely. Let's look at an already established game like Violated Heroine, it utilizes a combination of sprite animations, sound effects, writing, and close-up pictures to the side. Obviously the basic rpg maker program you used has it's limitations, but with quality works out there you have to be able to compete.

Now after a quick reload and restart I've managed to hid and switched outfits. The game seems to try and push itself forward too fast here, no monologue conversation in prison, no interactions with the other prisoners. I'm released from the cage and make a run for it, when I decided to get caught instead.

Thrust into an arena I meet my first minigame challenge, fail, then failed again, then failed again, and failed again. The knock back on the blue slimes sends me from the center to the edge in a single touch, and there's a lot of them (should be less slimes). I know I could get by it if I tried a few more times but I wasn't worth my time and moved on with the game.

Now I've escaped into a town, and let the fetch questing begin.
My first grip of the game feeling unfinished hits again with a bunch of townsfolk lacking the interaction feature. This is a simple 5 minute process to add. Well I seem to have no money, oh look barriers to break; which translated to a painful thumb after beating 5 levels. What is this fortitude stat? Oh well hopefully it does something, oh look I can farm some steel. I made a sword, hopefully it has a use. Returned a necklace, she asks me for another. Lazy editing >_>.

Best scene in the game was finding a pot in a toilet, very random. Later some chick raped me, I had a button mashing game but it didn't seem to do anything and she walked off. I went and beat some video game after and scored 3k, then saved in the virtual game. The clicked on another console and got an ending. WTF now I have to replay that game. Did it again, saved again in virtual game. Bought a beer after, put me in some poisoned or horny status, it didn't seem to trigger any different conversations.

Oh look night-time, holy shit why is there soo many monsters. TOO MANY. I holed up in a house and waited.... and waited... and waited.... and waited.. day never came 'reset'. Did the virtual game again and saved, but now it turns out I only have 2970 money and can't buy any of the 3k stuff. And the game broke because I saved apparently. WTF!!!

Restarted the game, did everything all over, stockpiled some money, did fetch quests, got some dispel thing and then I was stuck again, could figure out where to go or what to do.

Restarted the game, figured out how to use the mirror to waro to demon palace. 5 minutes later of random running around a maze and I see the ending.
-----

That was my experience with it, probably won't ever open it back up again.

My rating 3/10

Is it worth $5? Not really, felt it was a waste of time. Sorry. But. That's my review.

Re: princess escape

virile, i'm sorry if you were unsatisfied by my game, i did my best to make an interesting game... I tried to be original...

i am however dissappointed you didnt manage to get any of the endings in that route...as some of my best artwork and a lot of thought went into making them...

thanks again for your review
