Re: FTL: Epic Starr CYOA

I'm in dubio here...
Going to the military base seems foolish to me. They were killing everything that moved at our station, we spaced nearly their entire assault force, and I didn't get a "We're here to help" vibe from them. On the other hand, if our remote research station got overrun, what would that bode for the only military target in the area?

Going to A4, the mining station, being the furthest away from the star, would either probably detail it being left alone, enabling us to find some equipment, and maybe a generic crewmember or two for our drone host. Or it's abandoned/massacred beforehand, and we just loot the place.

The military station smells too much like a gamble to me. we'd either stumble upon VERY angry soldiers, a shootout between soldiers&zerg, or a massacred base filled with zerg, so I'm going to play it safe this time and vote A4

On a completely unrelated note: I kind of caused the whole happening of spacing the marines, so yeah...

A4. While Aliens: Colonial Marines may have sucked, it does teach us to stay away from trigger happy space soldiers.

There was silence as the two ships hung in space, the shock of what had just happened was still setting into each member of the crew. From this distance, Hell 2 looked innocent in comparison to their recent experience. Scarlet pulled her head from her hands, her eyes laden with the events of the day. “There’s a mining station on Hell 4, it’s the farthest station away from the star. If anyone in this system is still safe it might be them.” She spoke through the Scudo’s radio, her voice void of emotion.

Lawrence, still in the cockpit with Kar’rak and leaned over his shoulder, reaching out his hand to press the transmission button, “There’s a military station on Hell 5. We should go there first and report what happened. They might be able to assist us as well.” He suggested. Kar’rak turned to look at Lawrence, who flinched, fearing reprisal from the dangerous looking Hunter. Much to the short of Asura’s relief Kar’rak shrugged, accepting the suggestion.

In the ship across from them Scarlet took in a deep breath, “I don’t care.” She groaned as the door to the cockpit slid open. Jeana stepped in, looking a little concerned.

"Jack said you sounded upset." The girl asked, stepping up behind her and resting her hands on her shoulders. "Apparently we're talking about going to a military base, or to a mining facility?" She asked, pressing her thumbs into Scarlet's shoulders, eliciting a contented moan from the pilot as she began to massage her. "I think we should go to the mining facility... I feel like the military will have enough on their hands, and I don't want an overzealous trigger man to blow us out of the sky. We can look for survivors, and maybe pick up some supplies while we're there." The said with a soft smile.

Scarlet had crossed her arms on the council and leaned down on them. She took a deep breath and lifted one of her arms, pressing the transmit button without looking. "Kar'rak... Kar'rak we're going to Hell 4. Jack, transmit coordinates to me." She said with a muffled voice. "Oh, and stop talking to my crew without asking me." Her said, a smirk crossing her face as Jeana’s hands found purchase on a knot in her shoulders.

"Oh, their your crew now!" Jack's sarcastic voice responded. "Be patient, I'll send you your map dots." The com from the Sparrow went out as the ship's AI began processing the data.

As Jack left Scarlet to her thoughts, Jeana pressed her hands into Scarlet's back, her deft fingers roaming over the back of Scarlet's jumpsuit. The pilot let out a long contented moan as the dark haired girl began a proper massage. "I know you're tired," Jeana leaned in and whispered in the red head's ear. "But we should keep going, at least until we clear the system."

"Murh," Scarlet groaned into the console, "You're right." She said, allowing herself to enjoy the massage for a moment longer before sitting up straight. "Get to your station, we'll be jumping soon." Scarlet turned and flashed a smile at the girl. "Thanks for that."

Jeana returned the smile, "Of course," she turned to leave the bridge, "If you ever need me, feel free to call." She said, walking out, her hips swaying to a rhythm in her head. The door slid closed behind Jeana, a smile spread across her face, as she began to hum her favorite piece of classical music, nodding her head to the beat that was stuck in her head. "I'm gonna pop some tags, only got twenty dollars in my pocket..." She sighed to herself happily as she danced into the weapons room. "I love it when the girl you like smiles at you." She said, talking to herself.

A ping arrived in the cockpit, Scarlet's delicate hands washed over the display, a holographic display of the system appeared before her, her eyes keenly analyzing the motion of the planets, watching the ping over Hell 4. "All ships, prepare for subspace jump to Hell 4, all hands, prepare for jump." She announced in a commanding tone

The FTL drives began to spin up, each ship roaring back to life, blue windows appearing at the bow of each ship, and with a flash, they were both whisked away through subspace.

Kar'rak and Uyard reclined in the cockpit of the Sparrow, Jack's image sitting on the display, playing idly with a peanut in his light crafted hand. Waves of blue light washed past the ship as their warp was underway... In only a matter of hours they would arrive at their destination. Kar'rak's eyes watched as the texture of subspace flew by. This was the first time he'd had the opportunity to watch, and he relished it.

Uyard, stealing nervous glances back at the strong warrior of the Tutarin people, tried to remain calm, hoping to build rapport with him through silence...

Soon, both ships exploded out of subspace to see another semivolcanic planet, and as they closed in on the planet, four Skorm ships showed up on radar, heading for the edge of the planet's gravity well. weapons alarms began sounding in both ships, Uyard instantly leaping up and scrambling back to the drone room, Scarlet and Kar'rak watched out the cockpit windows.

What looked to be three civilian freighters were moving at top speed away from the planet, pursued by a Skorm Destroyer frigate. The Destroyer's spinal laser fired, slamming through one of the civilian transports, causing its engine to explode in a fiery hail storm. The other two would soon reach the grave well as they buzzed by the Sparrow and the Scudo,

On the Sparrow, Kar'rak answered a hail from the Destroyer. "Sargent Rick Allenman, your ships will aid in the destruction of fleeing vessels or you shall be targeted." The voice growled.

At the same time, Scarlet was receiving a message from one of the transport.... "Please! We have wounded on board!" The voice shouted, panicked, "Please, slow down that destroyer, or stop it!" The man's voice begged...

Re: FTL: Epic Starr CYOA

B of course, because in FTL when you aid the civilian ships you usually end up with more scrap afterwards, whether they live through it all or not, and sometimes you end up with a weapon as well. Besides we do outnumber them after all, and I don't like not helping unarmed ships when they are under attack.

Edit: What Xgkf says is true, but I was looking at this from an FTL point of view with the supplies and such. As such, I shall change my vote to E Try and find out why they are attacking unarmed ships before opening fire on either one, then we can make a better decision on the matter.

Re: FTL: Epic Starr CYOA

It's an allied military destroyer attacking them though, right? Aside from just attacking a military vessel seemingly like a pretty fast way to get on their bad side, maybe there's a reason they're attacking them. Just because those people are in civilian ships and 'say' they have wounded on board doesn't mean they're innocent victims. They could just as easily be pirates or something tying to fool us into helping them get away.

Re: FTL: Epic Starr CYOA

There's always a simple solution.
The destroyer doesn't pack enough of a punch to blow up a civvy ship in one shot, so we interrogate the "civilians" about why they're being shot at.
Though admit it...The marines were busy murdering random people on our station too, so ten to one that they're just shooting stuff randomly hoping to stop zerg spreads.

My vote: Interrogate the civilians, if their story is believeable, we order the marine to stand down or be shot to tiny bits, with me preferring the latter.

Let's call that B+

E. Hail the ships back and try to find out what's going on before picking a side.

Of course, if the destroyer decides to open fire on either of our ships in the meantime we should turn it into scrap. Self defense and all that.

Pretty much the most sensible solution, though I suppose true military types would obey a superior officer's order without question... Godd thing we're not military, right?

-posting from class, sorry-

The ship with the fractured engine slowed to a stop, the hull slowly split and began to drift apart, bodies beginning to float out of the exposed rooms. Scarlet gasped, looking at the person on the other end of her com, calling to her from the civilian ship. She quickly opened a com to the Sparrow. "Kar'rak, I'm getting a call for help from the civilian ships."

"The Sargent on board the Destroyer is ordering our help in destroying them." Kar'rak responded, his eyes not on the com, but keeping vigilant watch out the cockpit blast window. The remaining civilian ships didn't stop, the pair still moving out of the planet's gravity well as fast as they could. The destroyers weaponry didn't let up, smashing against the shields of the fleeing civilians, its spinal weapon recharging. Time was of the essance.

Scarlet looked down at the screen, locking eyes with the civilian on the other end. "Why is the military firing on you?"

"They think we're infested, they think that whatever was on the planet is on the ship, but its not, we swear! We're all clean!" He shouted, sweat dripping down his face.

"Why are you firing on the civilian ships?" Kar'rak asked, glaring at the stone faced Sargent.

"The civilian vessels are attempting to escape quarantine without proper inspection. Again, under order of Admiral Ardent Dimitrii you will assist us." The commander of the ship stated before cutting the coms. Kar'rak growled and turned back to Scarlet, "Higher orders demand we execute the civilians."

Scarlet groaned, "The Emperor has never been known for his kindness."
