ACT Unknown/Hiatus [Zicare] Unforbidden

Re: Unforbidden (platformer)

A fear years ago, there was a big uproar by our beloved, self-elected protectors of morals and decency, forcing any payment processors to cease cooperation with anyone who creates or sells works even remotely touching certain subjects (whether real, drawn, written, rendered, don't care).

Thus, the Terms of Use for Offbeatr:

Specifically, you are prohibited from:

13. Posting any Project, Product, or Reward that contains or consists of the following:

  • Images, whether moving or static, containing depictions, whether real or simulated, of rape, violence, snuff, mutilation, bestiality, zoophilia, pedophilia, lolita sex, pre-teen sex, underage sex, autoerotic asphyxia, incest, frotteurism, necrophilia, or death; or

Well, at least our fantasies are well policed now :)

Re: Unforbidden (platformer)

also CGtextures does offer free versions of the skyboxes you dont have to pay 30 bucks for them, you can use the samples they give you and get them near 1000x3000 or so variants without having to drop cash for it.

My current skybox already has 6 texture at 2048x2048, the free samples on CGSkies are a meager 3000x1500. Also, I would have to purchase them to actually put them in the game:

CGSkies License Terms

2. Permitted Uses

a. Samples of each Image may be downloaded for free. These sample Images are intended for personal, educational or testing purposes only and may not be used in commercial projects. For use in commercial projects an Image needs to be purchased.

edit: but if your trying to make cash off it.. i would recommend this one be free first then off of donations allow for members to help you pick up a profesional license for unity so you can legally sell your game without any troubles in the near future.

You can sell Unity Basic games just fine, you only need a Unity Pro license if you're making more than $100,000 annually (similar to UDK's $80,000, only without royalties).

In the end, I will have worked more than 6 months on this from my own savings. Yes, I could give it away for free and hope to get a bit closer to a Unity Pro license with donations, but my plan was more along the lines of securing rent and food for another 6 months so that I could do another one, and then another... :)

I'm aware that my graphics can't keep up with what other indies are dishing out and I hope to get better over time, but for now it's the best I can do. Also be aware that what you see currently is not a vertical slice of the game - the empty areas, missing scrubs, untold story, absent cutscenes and all are because this is a very early peek at the game.

Re: Unforbidden (platformer)

The way it looks as of now and your will to improve are enough to get our hopes up. It's a good game, you have good ideas to develop it further, getting some cash out of it is fine with me as long as you hold on to this initial plan of pumping out games once or twice per year. :p

Just heed Kyrieru's advice and don't be too much of a perfectionist, or you'll never finish the game.

Re: Unforbidden (platformer)

Doh! I knew I was forgetting to do something! Well, better late than never, ne?

Here's a simple example I've done quickly for a new face shot. At first glance, I don't seem to have the exact right shade of hair available but I didn't look through everything. As mentionned before, pretty much everything can be changed: Hair patterns (to some extend), face structure, flesh color (to some extend), background color, expressions (smile, frown, ect), lighting. It doesn't require to only be a face-shot but I'm not sure if that'd be of any use for a game like this.

Sorry about the large image size: I forgot to change my render settings and I didn't have enough time to restart a new render today.

Anyway, if you think it'd be useful, you can give me a few requests/specs and I'll do what I can. If you prefer to stay with your current dialog face image, there's no problems at all :)

Re: Unforbidden (platformer)

looks good as is, maybe soften the jawline and lips a bit and a creamier skin tone.

mmmm Scully

Re: Unforbidden (platformer)

That was 28th February, not April :)

I'm still working on a new release (and I'll announce it in this thread). Shouldn't be much longer now, I just need to finish up the forest level I'm working on and invest some more time making the new enemies work properly and fun to combat.

@Ayra: D'oh! I totally missed your post.

That looks quite good. She still has the tough look I like, but the hair is much nicer :)

If you could do a few variations (angry, surprised, confused, horny, disgusted, sleepy), I stand by my offer!

I have downloaded and installed Daz3D myself, too. Is this done with the standard bodies and props or are you using some paid Daz packages? I'm asking because then you could send me your scene and I could tweak it as needed (like rendering at different resolutions, matching the background color to my status bar or playing with the pose parameters) :)

Re: Unforbidden (platformer)

Well ended up trying it out and I must say I enjoyed it. The amount of frames in just climbing up was actually somewhat impressive but as everyone said perhaps tone it down, or better yet merge that into a running forward catch and pull up.

Say having her momentum keep her legs going forward when she catches a ledge, as opposed to when she is simply jumping straight up in the air to a higher spot. The animation with the wolf, simple but nice and the dialogue was a nice touch but do have to agree with the whole "self narration" of what the wolf is doing to her and leaving it as just her joys or hatred of the situation.

Re: Unforbidden (platformer)

I got a glitch where my character got glitched up through the rocks when crawling and for stuck up in that area.

Re: Unforbidden (platformer)

my comp idle temperature is around 40 degrees but running this game makes it to 80 degrees is this normal???

i dont even get 80 degress playing hi-res games

Re: Unforbidden (platformer)

wait a min... i thought i saw a kickstarter for the game LEWD?

After a tiny bit of poking around, I have to say I'm horrible at making good expressions... Daz does offer some basic pre-made ones, but they do look kind of off. I'll see if I can't do a bit better...

I did use a paid hair and skin texture: They were the closest match with your character I had in my library. So I unfortunately wouldn't be able to send you the scene unless you have them too. The Aldora hair that comes with Daz is pretty decent, but you can't mold it that well to match. For lighting, putting up an high-quality Uber Environment lighting does a pretty good job without having to be too finicky... It does take like 30 minutes to generate one single image with it, though.

I'll see what I can do, anyway, but it'll probably be a while.

Re: Unforbidden (platformer)

Zikare posted a detailed update on the blog a week and a half ago about some animation issues due to not having the annoyingly expensive Unity Pro, but it sounds like there will be another demo coming out soon. To quote the May 19 blog post,
But overall, I am slowly nearing the polishing and balancing stage (at which point the release is just a matter of days).

There's a funny little animation of a bug caused by non-pro version of Unity that is taking time to wrap around, but despite the slowdowns caused it's still probably a good idea that Zikare doesn't pirate materials/programs. It would suck if something happened to a creator as interested as Zikare :(

Still, with enough people interested, a donation link of sorts would at the least generate more money than it costs to create and upkeep it. My cheap ass doesn't normally, but I might chip in a few bucks for a good cause :D

Re: Unforbidden (platformer)

As soon as this game is out I will pay whatever price he lays out. All the extra work that he puts in I say he earns it.

Re: Unforbidden (platformer)

Any word on this?

Re: Unforbidden (platformer)

Blog says there's been progress but nothing to show yet.

Re: Unforbidden (platformer)

Progress update

It's interesting seeing the problems a dev has to overcome in the process. Maybe a bit more than usual considering it's 3d but still. I'm curious how long the game will be in the end and this question hinges upon that, but what price should he charge once finished? From what I've seen this game is unparalleled. Reminds me alot of an early PC TombRaider game I played.

Re: Unforbidden (platformer)

He/she is certainly willing to see this overly large project finished, this pleases me greatly!

Heck I'd easily pay £10-15 (never mind $5-10) for 3-5 hours of this kind of content (crunch mode not withstanding).

Re: Unforbidden (platformer)

Will a new demo be released as well? I certainly hope so.

Re: Unforbidden (platformer)

Just to keep you updated, the new release is slated for this Friday.

Re: Unforbidden (platformer)

huh, not seen this before.

I guess i'll wait for the new demo before trying it then.
