Re: Malise and the Machine (New RPG!)

New dev journal post up on the Blogspot page!

I've also posted some screen caps from gameplay footage taken for the upcoming teaser video on our Tumblr.

Re: Malise and the Machine (New RPG!)

I'm hesitant to ask because I don't want to sound pushy, but do you have any idea when we might be able to get our hands on a working build? Judging from the Patreon updates, you are still smoothing out a lot of kinks and designing mechanics, not to mention re-assembling RPG Maker for you purposes, so I can understand not seeing something until January or beyond.

Re: Malise and the Machine (New RPG!)

If I'm correct, a few pages back a demo would be released to patrons somewhere around this month.

Re: Malise and the Machine (New RPG!)

That's what I remember seeing, too, so I'm also curious if that's still the case with all the tinkering or wishful thinking for both parties. Hell, I'll just be happy to see the video when it comes out. I'm eager to see it in motion.

Re: Malise and the Machine (New RPG!)

We're also looking for a dedicated tile artist, something we'd really like to have as soon as possible, so if you know how to do tile art well and want to get paid, PM Eromancer or myself!

Re: Malise and the Machine (New RPG!)

I think that I am more curious as to if this game is going to be a 4:3 screen size or a more modern 16:9 screen ratio size. If it is the latter, I want to know how you pulled that one off.

Re: Malise and the Machine (New RPG!)

Eromancer said a few posts back that he has RPG Maker running in 1024x768, so 4:3. Even so, getting RPG Maker past the 640x480 restriction without horrendous lag is already an accomplishment. Screen size is not one of the engine's strengths...

That's what I've been hoping to achieve, but at this point I think it will take a little longer to get it where I want it to be. While the H system is taking longer to implement than expected, I also felt the need to have more artwork and H content in this first test release than originally intended to give people a better impression of what the game will be like.

Once the H system is wrapped up I'll have at least a couple weeks worth left of artwork, a few days of scripting/editing sprites, and then it's mostly testing I think. So things are definitely not way off, but I'll post an update about it on the Patreon feed and Blogspot once the H system is complete and I can better assess what else needs finished up.

Re: Malise and the Machine (New RPG!)

Sorry for the radio silence the past week or so. I've been pushing really hard to get the H system ready and finally have it all working. There are some bugs to be weeded out before the first content release, but I'm now able to record some final footage for the video (which you should expect to see in the next few days).

Check out the Tumblr for a screenshot!

Just a question that may be hopefully answered. Will there be pregnancy possible in this game?

I would not be even mad if it would be a 10$ dlc. Albeit it probably doubles the complete workload and hdd space...

edit: just saw your latest blog post about the possibility to turn of the struggle system. Would it be possible to have a "no hands" mode? Like, a stat debuff (that maybe depends on the option you have chosen or is self caused by an skill that only turns up when your h stats are very high), that when both of your characters are kind of "stunned" they just skip the menu (attach, defend, item, etc menu) and rape them over and over, without the need for button presses? Naturally that would only work for a couple of rounds per skill use or until they are defeated, since else you would have an endless loop.

I'd gladly pay that additional 10$ for pregnancy additions to this game.

I wouldn't be against it, so possibly. It would be a big task, as any visual status effect that wouldn't disable/ensnare a character would mean that all 9 or so generic battle poses (attack, idle, evade, etc) would need new art to accommodate the status effect. That said, I'd also like to add a distended stomach type effect, so maybe those could share that artwork. Same with being loaded with eggs or something.

I plan on having an auto battle function, though I kind of want the player to have to unlock it.

EDIT: I want to add that what you're describing actually happens by default if you don't do anything. It's active time, so enemies will progress with their attacks whether you take a turn or not.

Are H attacks animated?

Re: Malise and the Machine (New RPG!)

Had my eye on this for awhile, with the video coming out soon I'll likely buy in :D

Re: Malise and the Machine (New RPG!)

Are H attacks animated?

They are a series of still artwork that progress with the attack. One branch of an H attack might contain anywhere from 3 to 7 or so separate images (not including variations, which there are a lot of).

As I mentioned in the first post: "the game has been in the early development stages for about a year. A big chunk of that time was devoted to experimenting with art styles, programs, processes, and even seeing if fully animated scenes would be viable for the game (answer: they are possible, and I have some great examples, but RPG Maker was simply not designed for it and it would degrade the gameplay a lot to try to force it without devoting gross amounts of time to coding... down the road though I'd like to make this a reality, when I have the resources)."

At this point I'd actually say I have RPG Maker performing well enough at the expanded resolution that it could handle it, but I'd need a team of 4 or 5 full time artists to do it and maintain the quality of the artwork and amount of content I plan on having.

Damn. That's brutal for art man. D:

In other news, will you be going over how the character's get their names? I only got form you the second girl's name, but I'm curious as to how they met, and all that. I want a backstory!

I wonder how the "distended" stomach effect happens (pls no spoiler) and what effect it has on battle. A pregnancy System that is a mix from saki quest (Events and Battlesex still happens normally, just with a big belly) and creature hunter (You can give birth to enemies in battle albeit it goes way to fast in that game) would be nice.

A lot of details of the story are still in the works, so I probably won't go into it much until things are solidified. I plan on taking a couple weeks between the first and second releases to piece together all my notes and flesh stuff out.
