Hey all. I'm a technical artist that specializes in hard surface modeling and programming. After a LONG time of being a lurker here I've decided to take a stab at a small Unity project. More or less a tech-demo at this stage, but I want to work on it slowly and see where it goes.

For my project however, I'm focusing on the larger and more complicated engineering tasks at hand and hoping to farm out some of the other work I need done. To begin with, I need someone to model my female protagonist. At the moment I 'borrowed'/exported a character from the Sims3 that more or less shows the general look of the character I want, but now I really need the character fully realized. This is where you might come in. I need a nude, clothed, and clothing damaged flavor of the character. She doesn't necessarily have to be AAA, but obviously the more fidelity the better. I'll send you more details about the character.

So send me a PM with your rates and portfolio and lets get nasty!

Re: Looking for a 3D Character Artist

Hey,

I hate to burst your bubble, but...

If you have ever watched an online tut for making 3D character models, you know that it takes several days for even a serious pro like Blender Cookie (who has several online tuts about that topics) to make just the face.
If you watch this tut from Blender Cookie....

....you will notice that this series of tutorials is roughly ten hours long.

Hey that does not sound like a long time, right?
Except that the playback of the entire tut series was done in high speed.
So the original time it took him to do this tut series was much, much longer.

He mentions that the first tut was in fact 3 hrs and not 45 mins.

I am guessing that the total time was roughly 10 days, since each tut took
several hours and there are ten of them total.

Is all, he didn't bone rig it and he didn't do any animation.
The finished work was just one frame!

All that time spent and just one frame!

You're taking about making a video game.
That will take several weeks or months of work.

You are not going to find someone who wants to do this for free or for a small fee.

I too am a hard surface modeler.
This is a to some of my work.

Currently I am preparing to learn sculpting and human anatomy.
However, it will be months, or maybe even a year, before I am ready to seek paid work or do pro work for my games.

Seriously, you say that you are a hard surface modeler, but I doubt you had any clue what you are asking when you made this post.

Considering that you already have experience in modeling already I would advise you to simply learn sculpting and human anatomy in which ever software you use.

Good luck!

Hi,

Seriously, you say that you are a hard surface modeler, but I doubt you had any clue what you are asking when you made this post.

I hate to burst your bubble but, I do this professionally at a studio in Texas and have been in the industry for the last 5 years. While I can do characters in Maya > ZBrush > Final Concept, I chose not to for this particular project. I 'prefer' to focus on hard surface modeling, which also includes level construction.

He mentions that the first tut was in fact 3 hrs and not 45 mins.

I am guessing that the total time was roughly 10 days, since each tut took
several hours and there are ten of them total.

The character that I'm looking for has a 3 week turnaround at best, which any talented artist can get close to AA in that time. At no point in my post did I ever say this was a 'one day' or 'couple hours' job and any gfx artist worth his weight should know that.

You are not going to find someone who wants to do this for free or for a small fee.

That's why I asked for rates.. did you not see that either?

Never make assumptions about who your talking to behind the keyboard. You don't know who they are or how much more they may know than you. BTW, do yourself a favor and get a real modeling package besides Blender.

Don't mind thoughtmachine, he likes to shit on everything. Best course of action is to simply ignore anything and everything he says.

I appreciate that, I'll heed your advice. To further prove my experience however, I'll direct individuals . That's me and that's also what a real portfolio looks like, not blogger.com. Granted I'm realizing I need to update it, as its 4 years old. Job security makes you lazy, remember that kids.

Just judging by your rep compared to his, I'd say he's pretty accurate.

No, I'm pretty sure people mark you as an asshole because you behave like one.

oh that's right, I forgot!
I politely disagree with you, you verbally attack me. I defend myself.
Then when you find yourself on the losing end of an argument (that you started) your buddies show up and badmouth me (because they are your buddies).
Finally when is all done and said, somehow I am the asshole and you are in the right.

At any rate I have reported this matter as an incident of harassment.
We'll let the site mods and owners decide.

Re: Looking for a 3D Character Artist

Anyways, being I really dont care to throw my hat into this shitstorm. I will talk about something that is potentially on topic. Why not use something like Poser, Daz Studio, or Xna-Lara (XPS or whatever it is called now) to render 3d characters with?

From what I can tell blender can take something from those 3d renders and in turn animate it. Though I know little to nothing about animation, and I will admit that its far more toward nothing than a little bit when it comes to my knowledge of animation. Would that not at least give you an acceptable starting point? That guy who is making the malice in the whatever game is doing something very similar to that by taking character renders from Poser and then overlaying them onto a background. I am pretty well sure I have an idea of everything that he is doing, but I sure dont have the level of effort or skill to be able to do something like that (yet).

If it is good enough for a fledgling developer, for lack of a better way to describe him, why would it not be good enough for someone else?

You are not being harassed. You are clearly trolling. Probably a teenager that hasn't figured out how to weave discourse online. It's cool, we all went through it at some point.

But honestly, how is this irrefutable?

Re: Looking for a 3D Character Artist

Thanks freeko,

I didn't want to go that route because Daz and Poser models (to me) fall into the . While some games use it to success like Nano/Hounds others like Framboise and Evil Nazi fail at it. I want something rendered in realtime allowing the player to move the camera freely during any section of gameplay. So think more along the lines of 3D Sexvilla or Artificial Girl. It's a harder challenge for any indie, but I think the payoff is considerably better. I could also potentially add new animations over time since the meshes would have a unified skeletal system, as well as allow players to customize the lead character.

And of course I don't want to lift a protagonist from an existing game, since the end goal is to create a viable commercial product.

Re: Looking for a 3D Character Artist

I have dabbled a bit here and there, and on my tries to do 3D I learned one thing: It's hard as hell.

I hope you the best of luck in getting a model that's not only decently good looking, but also with enough rigging controls to animate it properly. I believe you'll need it.

Re: Looking for a 3D Character Artist

This forum might not be the best place to look for a 3D artist. I mean, there might be some here that have stayed quiet so far, but most artistic creators here that I've seen seem to be in the 2D art category.
has some forums that might be a better place to look for this kind of assistance. They even have a store that you might even be able to market your game through. I don't know what their percentages are or anything, so you'd have to do some looking on that yourself.

Re: Looking for a 3D Character Artist

I'd assume part of the reasoning behind asking here is because it means any potential takers will be ok with working on a hentai product. Maiko's right that the pickings might turn out to be slim here, but can't hurt I guess. There's always a chance someone here might know someone or somewhere else suitable, for example (as proven). : )

Afraid I can't offer any expertise or contacts myself though. Good luck.

Re: Looking for a 3D Character Artist

I am not an expert in 3D but you can take a look at After Effect if you want to animate 2D graphics.

I have first hand experience with some assholes on this forum. They don't know the difference between criticizing or being toxic. Just want to remind them that's what 4chan is for and they can behave whatever they want over there.

Hmm.. Do you mean "politely" like how you responded to sgtbilco here? Let's check that out

Hmm, what a douche. Stop fucking reporting people defending themselves against your assholery. You even reported sgtbilco for telling you how you misread everything he said when he was not rude to you in the least. You wanna go ahead and private message me to tell me what the fuck he did wrong? I come back to 4 reports in the same goddamned thread cuz you can't act like a big boy? Grow the fuck up.
