Re: HRPG Heaven X-Mas Gift

Is that why half of your posts on this board are little more than stating that you have something and can't actually share it? More dangling carrots. Of course you share a little here and there... if you didn't, people would have no way to believe you have anything and wouldn't be willing to pay to join your forum.
I don't say this a lot, but you're an idiot.

Every time I didn't share something I always stated: "person who translated/bought doesn't want it shared here" or "we're trying to contact the author to get the translation released with his approval."

Not my fault people go reading our chatroom and then request for stuff here when I'm around.

And I noticed you removed the open slot countdown... very classy and predictable move there.
First it was offensive to some people, now it's a "classy" move, make up your minds.

Re: HRPG Heaven X-Mas Gift

I don't often get pissed off and chime in but here goes.

How would you feel if i stuck that translation behind a paywall and only released things to the public to try and salvage my broken reputation? Besides, if HRPGheaven didnt exist its likely its current translators would either have stayed with ulmf releasing translations for all to enjoy with no strings attached or have stopped entirely which is better in my opinion than creating a snobby little secret club.
Here's the thing about translations. They're illegal for the most part, as is pretty much every single game on this forum and HRPGHeaven. So yeah, keeping them "hidden" (though that's not exactly the right word) actually kind of makes sense. And if you'd prefer if translators stopped translating entirely rather than releasing the bigger games occasionally then you're insane.

Most of the games we translate don't get released for 2 reasons, 1) They're too small to actually be of interest to more than a few people and 2) We just don't want the extra attention. You have no idea how many messages I, and most other translators get asking for re-up's or even walkthroughs etc, which brings me back to my final point. Most of the bigger games we've translated DO get released, you know, the popular ones that people ACTUALLY want to see translated.

Translating is hard, which is probably why you don't see every single game that comes from DLSite being translated. It's easy to say you'd prefer if people stopped translating rather than only releasing the big ones, but trust me, if that was the case the, already low number of translated games, would shrink incredibly fast.

You do release them eventually which kind of nullifies your point about them being kept private for legal reasons. Starke himself stated he didnt care about what the To H author thought about him releasing a translation...And the argument about wanting to keep links up and being tedious to reupload is completely inane. Once a major or even a small translation gets released it gets mirrored on so many places its not even funny so once its out its out for good.

And yes, id rather you brought down your forum, or closed it off permanently instead of charging people to get in with the occasional release of a translation once a year. I'm also uncertain why Starke is the spokesman and leader of your forum since he has already proven to be completely inept at representing your forum. Unless you want us to think you're all complete egotistical douche bags like him?

You want to keep it private? Keep it private for real and stop baiting people for limited time access. Let someone else take the cup of translating games for the community instead of relying on you to deign us deserving of your work from time to time.

Him not caring =/= him not wanting.

I'm on a whole personal level of egotistical douche, I don't represent anyone, I own the forum, me creating and paying for it gave me the right, everyone else is just rolling on a privilege. We're not a democracy, we're a monarchy, we didn't go to votes, I am king, I am legion, I am the Alpha and the Omega.

Cool, off you go then.
Wow... you are now to be known as the guy responsible for Monkeyman to never release something at ULMF again, and by attachment, me and VCT.

Congratulations, you've worked hard as a community towards it. *SMH*

Biblical reference alongside making me think about Warhammer 40k. Thank you.

What cup? If there are translators who are willing to translate games for your community, they are free to do so. If the translators at hrpg wanted to share their work, by all means they are free to do so. You assuming that ulmf doesn't receive translations anymore solely because of one site is beyond ludicrous. But by all means, why don't you take the helm and become a hero? Get going and go translate some stuff. I'm sure you're not a person who's all bark and no bite, right?

And why yes, we are indeed a community of egotistical assholes. All the more sweeter when we rustle the jimmies of individuals such as yourself.

To the rest though, here's to a great 2015 :)

Re: HRPG Heaven X-Mas Gift

Oh no, I never said I'd stop releasing, aside from one or two people I quite enjoy releasing here (even if it is few and far between because of my work ethic). I'm just saying, if he's so picky about what gets translated and what doesnt or what gets released, why doesn't he just do the ones he wants himself.

As for VCT and Starke, well that's up to them but yeah, don't see it happening now.

If you want any pointers let me know. You don't need to know Japanese. It just takes determination, a bit of creativity and a whole lot of time.

Here's something the other translators will probably find funny: Back when I first started, I actually told someone "I think this will take a month or two." That was May, 2014.

What stopes the translators uploading them to a bot which posts the translations?
Tor is free too if you're really paranoid.
The word youre seeking is not "hidden" its "locked away".

Again, just set up a bot which uploads it automatically.
You dont want to draw attention yet livestream with HRPGHEAVEN in the title? Are you serious?

We get treated as second class citizen and we're looked down upon.
I don't want this. You and a few others come here and treat us with respect, yet I can't say the same for all of HRPG Heaven members.

Wish it worked like that with every game and slang, sadly it doesn't, and kinda beats the point of making verbatim translations.

I legitimately laughed, been in the same situation.

Oh, you're absolutely wrong, you're looked upon in no way, at all, 10 minutes ago I didn't know who you were, 10 minutes from now I won't know who you are.

You know what's causing your inferiority complex? 2 years, 31 posts, 0 of them helpful.

No that's not right either, not meaning to be insulting, just
that isn't what I was trying to say.

I said I didn't want to draw attention, that's just my own personal choice.
As for the stream, having HRPG in the title doesn't really mean anything, a quick google will bring you to the site, it's the forum that's locked.

So why tar and feather us all with the same brush then? It's the same thing with here, almost all members are great and don't give a shit that we have our own forum, but one or two people throw a fit over a game that could very well have stayed un-translated never mind unreleased

Edit: Blegh, fucked up the quotes, too tied to fix, answers in bold
Toxic-Edit: I gotcha

Yeah, some people are truly believe that they are self-entitled to translated games just because it exists somewhere they can't access. You are right! Translators should do whatever the hell they want with their work. People, who take things for granted, is one of the reasons I didn't take up on translation work on ROBFS4U and I am happier now for not doing so.(I was in regular contact with Asgard Knights, the dev, as well)

When I hear people whine about the $50 'fee' to get access to the forums, you need to read a bit more. The forum access can be free if you get the know the people. Personally, I don't mind the fee if it helps the server(I was going to 'donate', but I got caught up in land taxes :p). I am not too sure how I feel about his sig advertising the fact there is open amount of slots, but it does it really matter? If you don't like it, you can always ignore it. I know of members who advertise their own games and, also, told other members to try to create a thread to generate interest on their game.

Oh well, pity on the lack of open slots. I was interested, but it is a bit late now. :)

Re: HRPG Heaven X-Mas Gift

I wasn't "advertising", we legitimately closed at 100 members, people can wait for someone to leave / get banned to try and get in (we usually ban people on the first of every month, inactives, lurkers, etc.), but since so many people say its "advertising" I won't let people know when it's "open", if they're curious they can e-mail me.

"Why 100 members?"

Keeps the tight knit community feeling where everyone knows eachother, it was part of the project at the beginning, and everything we abide by has worked for us for over 2 years so we feel this is a good move for the forum. Sure, we can make exceptions, but why are you an exception? Do you really want to get in? You'll find a way, all of our members did, and in 100, only about 10 found it by paying.

I do like your mindset, you can follow logic which is more than we can say about most people, so I'm sure you'd do fine just by participating in our chatroom, someone would eventually vouch for you, but do most people bother to try? Here's a tip: 2 years, 100 members.

And thereeeee weeeee gooooooo. It's YOU who feels like a second class citizen. It's YOU who feels like they are being looked down upon.

Yet, what's this? Most people here are relatively grateful for the translations. I assume they don't feel like second class citizens?

So as hrpg said, where does that inferiority complex come from? You aren't even an asset to the ULMF community, only a second class leech~

@Demonheart: Yeah bro, you got it. All hail the invincible pay wall :D

I'm usually just a long time lurker but I was thinking of trying my hand at translating a RPGMaker VX Ace game but I have no idea where to start.

This may or may not be the best time to ask for help but seeing as all the big players are here in this thread I was hoping someone could lend a hand.

For the record I was always really thankful and inspired when I saw people like Monkeyman and HappyGoomba take the time to translate any project. Even now I look forward to Goomba's Seiren Harp updates and I'm wondering if I could learn to translate a game just like him.

Re: HRPG Heaven X-Mas Gift

The current banner is a perfect example of why people don't like Starke. The forum is supposedly closed, yet at the bottom of every post is a large banner linking the site, and then saying its closed. What good is the banner, then, except as just another way to tease people, if no one else can join, and the people who are already members already have the link?

I think someone else said it best in another thread when they pretty much equated him to a kid with a toy, waving it around saying "Nah nah you can't have this".
