Will it be like strumpets/breeding season management? Or something simpler or more advanced?
Ya this is a big problem right now with the way my Patreon is set up. I do apologize. I really thought that at most I would receive 20 backers at the $20.00 level after 4-6 months. After three I'm closing in on 80 now. I have been working on setting up a different distribution system for my Patreon as I think that $20.00/month for alpha access is high and hurting the distribution of info. I'm hoping that later this month I can have something more flushed out to pass game info and builds on to lower tiers. I can't really say much more at this point as there is much going on behind the scenes. All I ask is be patient news should be coming down the pipeline in the coming weeks (I hope).

As far as mechanics go there are hiest/threat system (JL will come after you with threat), items that affect stats of characters, Glamour Slam (stripping to make money), Capture system, lexcorp which as cloning and robotics, and much more. I have all the functionality of ren'py now in the game (text skip & save/load). I have also been dabbling with animations for stripping and lap dances (although they are rough and not in the builds yet). At this point the game itself is mostly complete with the exception of content. Which I'm working on now.

Wait..there are different levels of the activity feed? Or do you only give info to the game tier? Either way you could always get a devblog going or not, you are sort of an odd one since you are primarily a comic/pinup artist transitioning into games. IDK a devblog couldn't hurt, but then I guess all you have for those high tier donators IS just info (for now), so posting freely about it would sort of negate the need for higher tiers...

Ya I hate the tier system because it just isn't balanced, most people only bother with 1 or 5 dollars so its hard to appeal to them while also appealing to big donors...while also maintaining artistic control.

Sadly this is why the game industry is in the mess its in cause the money backers often ruin games by messing with the core concept to access a broader demographic. Patreon usually tries to avoid this but it still slips through, breeding season is a good example, the top backers got to have their own monsters in the game. Something similr also happened naturally when they redesigned the game to be furry/anthro instead of bestial because...fucking westerners and furry porn. Seriously, I do not understand how FURRY is such a fucking huge thing...in the west of all places. To be fair that was a great way to incentivize big money, offering a cameo or bit in the product I think would be worth the extra money. I saw one patreon had a top tier that said something like "You get to help me shape the game" or something I just looked at that and went like "Ohhh boy, that gambling bastard".

Personally I wish patreon had a cumulative reward system or even something akin to google circles but for patreons. Considering almost every H game dev blog has a "friends" sidebar with links to other devs, I think it would be great way for people to discover similar things the already donate too.

Totally agree with everything you said. I do only give the dev info on the $20.00 (game tier) as I projected a small audience towards my game/s. What I would really like to do is not restrict access (of builds and info) to upper tiers. Also having patreon as my dev blog of sorts with info and screenshots open publicly. I was playing around with the idea of having weighted polls where higher supporters get more weight while I can still control content to a degree (costumes, plot lines, items, characters, etc). Find a balance to the weights is what will take more thought, if that is the direction I go. I want all my fans to know that I'm always improving, and looking ahead to create extra value for them. If that is art, platforms, or information distribution. It is to easy to fall into a set and forget plan, when in actuality the industry is evolving rapidly (especially the crowdfunding side). I also want to strike a balance that has my fans and my interests in mind as far as content and creativity go (which is difficult). I'm still hashing things out but I would like to make changes sooner rather than later.

I like the weighted polls idea, it could work with a good balance of people, luckily you are becoming popular, I never heard of you till that korra game, until I realized you were the guy who drew DC perfectly.

Cosmetics are the way to go, and when the base game is done you could always add more characters or variations through that voting system you mentioned. It is actually why breeding season grinds my gears, they are focusing on all these extra creatures while still re-revamping the originals.
Its like, just finish the base game, THEN add the top donators monsters and other additions.

What patreon game makers should learn is that they have subscribers, it isn't kick starter. They can finish a game with its core elements and add on to it afterwards. I believe vortex does this fairly well. He made ARIA with a start and end point and is now improving upon the foundation. Another non patreon example who does this well is peachs untold tale.

Others can't do this such and roundscape, since it is a long RPG, thankfully it has acts. Which allow it to release new content more logically, it feels more progressive. Compared to games that just redesign or revamp its foundation multiple times, I don't want to single out breeding season, I know I have seen it besides breeding season, maybe on kickstarter.

ANYWAY, ya, the voting system with weighted votes is a good idea. It incentivizes people to stay a patron through the same trappings free to play uses (in a good way). Hell I don't doubt for a second some patreons keep development of a single project drawn out, just to keep patrons, its their monthly paycheck. But patience wears thin. It would be better for everyone if we had more of an continuous DLC type deal rather than a forever alpha game. Not to mention most of that continuous DLC would be decided by the creator and patrons which makes people feel like their money is still being used to pay for stuff instead of prolonging development hell.

I really wish patreon had a circle or group system that let other creators bounce off one another with info, especially since its hard to search for this kinda stuff.

I'm pretty sure It's not legal to use copyrighted material for commercial use. Atleast that's what I think.

I mean making money with someone elses work can't be legal right? You are technically not selling the game, instead you are asking for support (which still is asking for money).

As others have said, creating your own art or hiring an artist is by far the better option. Legal issues aside, using someone else's art in a commercial endeavor is extremely rude. Some things, like scripts, etc. give permission to use commercially, but make sure you credit. Also, if still decide to use some minor resources from other projects (not quite so bad), I'd credit those as well.

If you create a good game without art, there is a possibility someone will play the game, enjoy it, and perhaps join your project to do the art. Honestly, I'm surprised Sierra Lee has not had an artist come forward with Last Sovereign, given how popular it is.

In my opinion the art assets I have used are rather minor and/or heavily modified. Regardless, I did add a note to the OP in my thread:

"If anyone has a problem with my use of any of the art included in FSA then let me know and I'll remove it. The only exceptions being default Rpg Maker assets that I have modified.
Unless someone says so then I have no idea which art is actually public domain, free to use, royalty free, etc..
"

I may remove them anyway at some point. I will just consider them placeholder art in the meantime. If the art in question depicted full characters (like much of what is used in games like the Sim Brothel series) then I would feel more obligated to go ahead and remove it.

Another way to get artists (I'm one) is to collaborate with them with shared revenue. But to get or convince one, you should show a demo of the game (programmer art and placeholders are fine, so you can use other people's art as long as you do not forget to remove them later) and it starts from there.

I really wish that some artists would make and sell hentai art packs for commercial use. Kinda like the art packs that are available for RPG Maker.

I can't imagine any artist in this thread being interested in a collab with FSA since most of them already get $500 to $2500 (or more) on Patreon.
It would probably be easier for them to do their own thing and not deal with picky game designers (like myself).

Besides that, I have commitment issues so I would rather pay a one-time fee. xP

I would prefer to purchase some commission work (maybe I can luck out on Deviant Art, but most close up shop VERY fast!).
I wouldn't mind paying $10 to $20 (or more, depending) per commission, but the emulation of 70+ frames from VH could be a problem. :eek:

On big fear I have about commissioning artwork is if you ask them to do something and then you're disappointed with the final work.

"Hmm.. I didn't really want the eyes that big. Do those breasts look right? What's that on her leg?"

And then you're faced with several bad possibilities:
1. Awkward and feel like a jerk. "Ummm..... can you change it? :D"
2. Already prepaid. "Here you go. No take-backsies!"
3. Feel obligated to pay. "Thanks. It looks great!... *toss in recycle bin*"
4. "I don't really like it (at all). Do I still have to pay?" And they feel like you're just using them. (this is more of an issue of lack of communication/knowledge of the artist's work on the part of the commissioner)

Oh and my apologies to any artist I may have offended. >.>;

I do have a working version of my game available. It's just very unpolished at the moment.
Is it necessary to have a demo when the whole game (incomplete though it may be) is downloadable?
