No matter how much she moved around, Nym could find no way out of her situation. It almost felt as if she was running around in circles, barely able to keep ahead of her pursuer by warding it off with her feeble light. It seemed she wasn't able to escape, not yet at least. As she tried to pick up on where her mysterious enemy was, the girl suddenly noticed a trace of movement out the corner of her eye and lashed out with her axe on reflex. For a moment, she felt resistance as if the blade bit into something, followed by a pained shriek. The retaliation was swift, what felt like a storm of claws tearing into her top and scattering it to pieces, scratching her arm and drawing a few drops of blood. Whatever it was, it was angry now.

Well, atleast she had managed a hit on the thing, but she still hadn't found a wall let alone an escape. She wouldn't have even minded the former as atleast it would give her something she could put her back against.

Continuing her retreat she looked for the creature again, waiting for it to attack so that she could catch it under the light and score a hit. If she was lucky then maybe for once she could maybe get through a fight without being totally nude.

Glancing at the blade of her axe, Nym would realize there was no trace of blood on it. Well, there was no trace of anything on it, despite the fact that she definitely hit something. She didn't have time to think on it much, forced to once more dodge around to avoid getting hit by an angry swipe. Eventually, the thing managed to catch her again, this time with a blunt strike that bruised her a little. However, she was able to tag it with her weapon once more, the blade briefly sinking into something, prompting a pained wail and seemingly forcing the unknown presence back for half a second.

'Wait what?' Nym thought to herself as she noticed her blade wasn't bloodied. Was she fighting an undead or golem? Or an illusion? What didn't have blood... She wouldn't be able to think on it much longer though before she had to dodge the clawstrike. Still at the very least she was managing to hit it tit for tat, though she really would have preferred if she wasn't getting hit.

"What the hell are you?" Nym said as she continued her defensive fighting, it was working for her more or less so far, and she could only hope it kept doing so.

Her words once more fell on deaf ears as Nym was forced to dodge even more attacks than before. Claws, strikes, what appeared to be teeth, spikes, blades and gods only knew what else came at her from the dark. Still, she was able to ward them off with her feeble light, even as her stick continued to dwindle fast, and dodge everything she could scare off. Meanwhile, her axe gleamed as the flame reflected off of it's blade, the deadly weapon describing arcs in the air as it kept biting into the unseen monster repeatedly. It screeched and wailed until finally, just as Nym's stick got close to burning out completely, it had enough.

With a mournful cry that slowly disappeared into the background, the presence retreated, leaving the girl alone. Taking stock of her surroundings in the last, dying flickers of her flame, she'd realize with a start that she was standing in the middle of a relatively tight tunnel, rather than the spacious area she seemed to have been fighting in moments ago. She should not have enough room to swing her axe here, or a chance to lose sight of the wall. Before she could process it, she'd hear a man's voice call out nearby. "Hello? Is someone here?"

'Wait. What.' Nym thought to herself as she finally beat the creature, and found she was standing in a narrow hallway. Something was screwing with her senses, or she had falling into like, its pit trap or something.

She couldn't think more then that though before a male voice sounded from surprisingly close. Though she couldn't actually see where because her torch was finally burning out. "Y-Ya." Nym replied, a bit thrown off by what had just happened. "My name's Nym, who are you?"

She hoped it was Marcus, but she wasn't about to say out his name when there was something around that could screw with her perception like that. Atleast this way it wouldn't be able to just mimic his name unless it had seen into her mind or something.

"I'm Marcus!" Came the reply, along with a faint flicker of light down the corridor. "Hold on a second!" She could hear footsteps approaching her quickly. The light grew stronger and stronger, coming from beyond a turn in the tunnel. After a moment, a black-haired man wearing a simple traveler's garb emerged. He had a sword at his belt and a wing-shaped pendant that shone brightly, illuminating the surroundings with a pale blue light. He gave a start as he saw the girl, eyes widening as he noticed her half-naked body, though they narrowed as his gaze shifted to the small wounds on her arm. "Are you alright? Did something attack you?"

"Thank god." Nym muttered as she caught the name, though she was kinda surprised to see a regular guy as the queen's mate. "I'm Nym. I'm helping Skylla look for you. Also ya, some weird thing attacked me. I never actually managed to see it but I think I drove it off."

Nym was wondering just what magic that pendant had, because it could be really useful to get something of her own enchanted like that. "Now come on, I just came from the entrance hole and we got a rope set up there so we can get out of here."

"You are?" Marcus seemed suprised by this, though his expression was grateful. "That's great to hear. I couldn't climb out on my own and somehow lost sight of that hole when I tried to dig into the ground to create something to hold onto. Maybe it was because of the same thing that attacked you... Though it didn't seem to go after me." The man explained. "Anyway, are you sure you're going to be ok? If you've got some bandages or something, then maybe we could try patching those scratches up to avoid trouble." Nym indeed had a small medkit on her in her bag, though whether she'd use it was up to her.

Whether she decided to accept the man's help in getting herself patched up, Nym would find that they could move on with relative comfort thanks to the light provided by the magical trinket. Curiously enough, attempting to retrace her steps would prove that she actually passed by some intersections and branching paths, but at least her marks made finding the way back possible, if a little time-consuming. Were those paths hidden from her sight before somehow? If so, then how and why? There were no obvious signs that'd provide an answer.

Nym would indeed hand Marcus the medical kit so he could bandage up the cut a bit, just because she really didn't want to get an infection. With all this dirt and stuff around her, it would be a rather significant risk to not atleast cover the wounds.

"I wonder what it is, it sounded like the screams of the damned when it was coming for me." Nym said as they started on the trip back to the hole, the redhead very happy she left those marks as otherwise she could have gotten quite lost. Seriously, where did all these other paths come from, and it was almost a disturbing thought as she wondered why she was sent down the one path that lead to Marcus.

She'd glance over her shoulder occasionally, just to make sure Marcus wasn't about to stab her as like a trap from the creature. Also because she wanted to make sure he hadn't gotten lost somehow.

Marcus would quickly work on cleaning up and covering the wound. He seemed to have a bit of practice with that, performing his task rather efficiently. As he did so, Nym would notice that her clothing began to slowly but surely repair itself, threads shifting and mending wherever they were broken by the attacks. It'd take a while, but soon enough her outfit would return to it's previous shape. It didn't seem like the bandages would interfere with the process either, which was nice.

As soon as they were done, Marcus and Nym would set off to retrace their steps and return to the hole. The trip was uneventful, the light of the pendant letting them find the marks easily enough. By the time they've reached the last one, they were pretty much on a straight track to the entrance. During this trip, Marcus would comment on the encounter with the monster. "I have to admit, I've heard nothing. Perhaps this thing has some kind of ability to remain undetected if it wants to." He guessed, looking a little uncomfortable at the thought. Still, nothing weird was happening, so they likely weren't pursued.

After a while, Nym and Marcus would find the hole, her rope still hanging right where she left it. Climbing out, they'd be greeted by the sight of Eru poking at a strange, reddish-brown tentacle while Skylla waited impatiently. Upon noticing Marcus, she threw herself at him, the two lovers hugging each other happily. Meanwhile, the wolfgirl would explain that apparently Skylla chanced upon the beast's lair during her search and decided to swipe a tentacle while she was there. It wasn't the most fresh thing ever, but hopefully it'd do.

"Ya, and I don't remember all these side passages on the way in, so it almost certainly has some ability to mess with vision. Though makes me wonder why it let me find you at all instead of like, trapping me in a side path." Nym said, the redhead looking around to make sure they weren't about to get ambushed again till they finally got to the rope.

When they finally got back to the surface, Nym let out a sigh of relief and quickly pulled the rope up behind her. "Okay, if I ever have to go into a tunnel again it'll be too soon." She also saw Skylla and Marcus hugging eachother and couldn't help from saying. "Doesn't that look adorable."

"Really?" Eru asked, looking at the happy couple thoughtfully. It seemed that she was mulling over something rather hard, arms crossed. She stopped poking the tentacle, at least, allowing Nym to easily pocket it whenever she felt like it. "You took a while down in that hole, anyway. Was it that big?" The wolfgirl asked absentmindedly, clearly unaware of what her friend went through underground. She seemed to be more interested in the hugging pair anyway.

Meanwhile, Nym's outfit finished repairing itself, leaving her back in top condition, if one ignored the bruises and scratches. "We're thankful for what you've done for us." Skylla eventually spoke up once she was done showing her happiness. "Once I've established my Hive, I will allow you to seek shelter among us if you need it. Right now, however, we should move on. We have a lot of distance to cover to make up for our delay."

"Thanks for helping me find a way back." Marcus added. "If you ever need help, try looking for us. We won't forget what you've done." With that, the pair said their goodbyes before the antgirl took to the skies again, grabbing onto her lover and carrying him off. Eru watched the two of them go until they've disappeared out of sight. At that point, she turned her head towards Nym with a slightly confused expression on her face. "Say, what does adorable mean?"

"It was pretty big, but the bigger problem was there was some weird shadow creature or something down there. It could cut vision off from side paths and make a narrow hallway seem like an endless cavern."

Then Nym realized she wasn't topless anymore, she had totally forgotten about the self repairing clothes, but they'd atleast make it back to town without getting introuble for public indecency.

Once Skylla and Marcus were done greeting each other again and addressed Nym. "We'll come try to look you up when we come this way again! And good luck you two with your hive."

Then the two left, and Eru asked a question that Nym couldn't help but giggle a bit at. "It means effectively the same as cute. Were you staring at them that whole time trying to figure out what adorable meant? Either way though, we should get this tentacle back before it has a chance to decay any further."

"Really?" Eru looked at Nym, not looking convinced by the explanation. "You sure you didn't just inhale a swamp fume and hallucinate a bit? I've heard some stuff that grows in swamps can do that to people." The wolfgirl shook her head. "And... Cute, huh? Adorable means cute." She mused on that for a few minutes, as if turning the words around in her head over and over. "Guess I'll have to remember. Anyway, we should be able to get to town around afternoon, so I think the tentacle won't decompose much. It's not very stale."

Returning to the city, Eru and Nym would find themselves walking through the streets during "rush hour". Muscling their way through the crowds, they'd reach the inn without issue at least. The inside was packed, but Cedric and Alice were nowhere in sight. Inquiring at the innkeeper would reveal that they were up in their room. Knocking on the door yielded no response, though. However, Eru could swear that she was picking up some sort of rustling sound behind the door, and it didn't seem to be locked.

"Well you saw that my clothes were damaged on the way out, and I didn't get this wound from a random root let me tell you." Nym shifted her bandaged arm. Either way they got back to the town in good time, though they had to wade through a sea of people to get to the inn itself.

When they got to Alice and Cedric's room, there knocks turned up no response, but there was some rustling going on inside, and the door wasn't locked. If anything that seemed actually rather worrying, maybe someone had snuck into the room and was stealing stuff. Quietly she pushed the door open a bit, hoping to see what might be going on on the other side without alerting whoever was there.

Opening the door slightly, Nym was treated to a sight she probably had not been expecting. Alice was sitting at the desk, absorbed in reading a book of some kind. At this distance, the redhead couldn't see what it was about, and most of the page was blocked by the mage's body anyway. Cedric seemed to be resting on the bed, sans armor. He looked unusually worn out, as if he had been doing some kind of intense physical activity for a long time. The reading woman apparently failed to hear the door open since she just kept reading and the man wasn't in a condition to hear, or at least react to anything. Behind Nym, Eru was standing on her toes, trying to see what was going on inside.

Well, atleast no one broke in, and they weren't having sex. Though she wondered why no one heard there knocks. Deciding it was safe to go inside, she opened the door fully and said. "We're back, and we got the tentacle."

Cedric didn't react to Nym's entry or her voice. Alice, on the other hand, let out a startled yelp, closing her book with a snap as she rapidly turned around. "O-oh! It's you!" She squeaked out, calming down. "Geez... You nearly gave me a heart attack, Nym. Why didn't you knock?" The mage complained, setting her book down on the desk and standing up, quickly walking up to the girl. "So, the tentacle? You have it, right?" She asked, looking quite eager to get to that business.

"We did knock." Nym said with a shrug, before pulling the tentacle out of her bag. "And here you go, also, you ever heard of something that hides in caves and can screw with peoples perspectives? I ran into something like that out there."

If Alice answered positive or not, Nym would also add. "I guess you two had a busy day today? I don't think I've seen Cedric that tired."
