The words "Violin" and "rock" shouldn't ever be near each other...

Re: The words "Violin" and "rock" shouldn't ever be near each other...

how about a chello(sp?) and rock? the band apocoliptica(again, sp?) plays chelloes as their main instrument, and most of their stuff, expecially their non-metallica cover instrumentals, are amazing.

Well technically Bob a cello is related to a violin, it's full name is violincello. It's basically a deeper sounding violin, they do sound really good with rock though as you said.

well, all i really was trying to do was to get people to listen to that band, they are really good IMO

You should look into The Section Quartet. I like their cover of Our Time is Running Out, and they've even got some other good ones besides that.

I personally like the idea behind Apocalyptica a lot more than their actual songs. TSO is fucking awesome though.

Re: The words "Violin" and "rock" shouldn't ever be near each other...

i think a lot of their stuff sucks, like their metallica covers, and vocal numbers, but instrumentals like hope, and,...others which i can't remember the names of are pretty good.

I just got back from seeing TSO live, and I somehow got to get 4th row tickets half an hour before the show started. It was the BEST F***ING CONCERT EVARRRRRR!!!!1!!1!!
Seriously though, it was a great show, the violinists in particular were very impressive. It was worth every penny.

Another band I'd recomend in the same vein as TSO and Apocalyptica is Gregorian, which covers 80's music using Gregorian chanting. It's not only good, but hilarious.

I love TSO! Love em! "Mad Russian's Christmas" is one of my fav songs evah!

I can't believe I missed that opportunity to see them live last year in Ottawa because of work/money/ lack of transport etc... I was miffed

and done being loud fan girl for now.

I really enjoy there music. I own every CD that they made, I dont have the CDs but I have the songs... since I ripped them onto my comp they were a friend's CD. But I do wish to see them live... hoping next year I can.

Re: The words "Violin" and "rock" shouldn't ever be near each other...

I read through the post and I couldn't help but notice that we're talking about violins and rock, and nobody's mentioned "Kashmir" by Led Zeppelin yet.

Great song.

I'll have to check them out, they sound good. I'm glad people are starting to notice violins more, some of my favorite metal and rock songs have violins in them.
