Finding him stable and alive was a miracle though from the sounds of Ashly's report the godslayer was responsible. After examining Charles Chloe focused her energy's on a powerful restoration spell that should have the young man up and moving. With that hopefully taken care of Chloe would follow the group back to the Academy not bothering to look back as the desecrated church.

The head of the expedition immediately called for a healer, and Chloe was quick to respond to that call, finding Charles stable but still in need of healing. They were out of there in short order, departing in force rather than risking any more casualties by leaving anyone behind, and the head mage listened to Ashley's explanation about what had happened to their patrol with rapt attention. He identified the figure that had rescued them from the aliens as Sivicine, a familiar name, and explained that she was the goddess of hunters and nature, and said that others had returned to the Academy and offered a similar command. The Dean, not one to refuse the expressed desires of a goddess, had opted to have the fallen creature's remains purged by fire until nothing remained rather than attempt any further study of it.

"Mmmm, a simple enough enchantment to work... And apparently a prudent one," the elf replied after Ashley had explained the candles that she'd broken and their purpose. He nodded along as she continued, but his eyes widened when she actually named the daemon that had been of assistance to her. "Really? Interesting.... And did this... Matthias... Explain why he came to your rescue?" he asked, his voice a tiny bit lower than it had been beforehand, but it wasn't possible to tell why exactly it might be so.

They were back at the Academy in short order, and the group was separated and taken to the infirmary to be checked out. Their remaining injuries treated in full, they were released the next day to find the Academy largely at peace, free to do what they would.... For now. But, unbeknownst to them, another storm was coming...

Ashley stared at the elf for a moment. He had quite obviously recognized Matthias's name. He was now pretending that he didn't, or that it wasn't important. Exactly why this was the case wasn't clear, but it was perhaps time for another instance of truth being only loosely correlated with honesty. "He said that he owed me a debt for my part in Artmirst. And that I was competent."

The third thing he'd said hadn't really sunk in at the time, but if it meant anything like what it had seemed the Daemon was implying, then she was already drawing far too much attention to herself to want anyone knowing Matthias had said it. Even directly thinking about it might be a bad habit.

Eventually she realized that Charles had been healed back awake. He looked a little distant, and she wondered if he'd been partially conscious when she'd nearly killed him. She made a brief apology just before they were separated at the infirmary "I'm, ah, sorry you were hurt."

The next day, finally released with a clean bill of health, Ashley found herself free. She found herself sitting on the edge of a wall, staring up at the clouds and thinking. The past few days hadn't been exactly positive, for the most part. The invasion, the searching, the defeat, the fog, and the terrible daemon in the church. There had certainly been bright points, victories, even personal triumphs, but she also couldn't keep out of her head memories of... the other bit, between being captured and being freed. The invaders were tainted, like the demons, and it seemed to Ashley that something of that taint had rubbed off on her. She didn't like it.

If she was going to get past it, it wasn't going to be through introspection. She brought her gaze back to earth and turned around. She needed someone else who knew what she had been through, or otherwise to start working on the many subjects she needed to learn about as quickly as possible. Either way, she felt like the Library would be the best place to start.

Chloe didn't have much time to admire her handy work before the group was ushered out of the church and back to the Academy. Once back to its familiar halls she was quickly separated from her companions and sent to the infirmary where she was pronounced fit and put to work helping others injured in the attack.

The following day Chloe headed off to find her dear friend Grace. Finding her in the chapel Chloe was of course releaved that she was alright. However it seemed that Grace had met up with someone else and the fact their was a child involved quickly soured her joyful reunion. Thankfully no ill words passed between them and after a round of tale telling Chloe left the new couple to themselves. She was heartbroken but glad that her friend was alright. Staying in the academy proper Chloe went back to the infirmary to try and help anyone else that was injured and to take her mind off recent events.

Ashley gravitated towards the library, finding it all but empty for once. Jenn was gone, she knew not where, but a quick search did nothing to turn up the water mage, as she wasn't in any of her usual spots. Tesnya wasn't there either, though that was less surprising given the athletic girl's preferred branch of magics, and she couldn't find Nina either. Just as she was about to leave, however, when Charles practically walked into her as they both turned around a corner.

He rebounded off of Ashley with a soft thump, but then smiled and reached out a hand to steady her. He looked worlds better than he had the day before, and was dressed in the fairly snug, sparse clothes that he had preferred rather than the tattered robes that they'd found in the abandoned church. "Ashley!" he began, obviously glad to see her. He'd been fairly out of it even after Chloe's healing and his awakening the night before, requiring assistance on the walk back to the Academy, but now he seemed fully recovered from their ordeal. "I was looking for you! I never got to thank you properly... That thing had me dead to rights, so you must have done something to get it away from me, and then something to heal me once it was taken care of. Tesnya told me about what happened after, I was awake but.... I wouldn't call it aware. So..... Thanks." He gave her arm a gentle squeeze and then moved to release her.

Chloe, in the meantime, was working in the infirmary, where she'd been gladly accepted to help with the triage. The aliens were vicious fighters when they fought to kill, and many of their blows were swiftly lethal as Chloe knew well, but there was still much need for healing magics, and her experience ensured that she was accepted with full honors to the Academy's healing staff. Nina came to visit on her first day, looking much better than she had during their trip out to fight the aliens, and during the harrowing adventures in the abandoned church, and even offered Chloe a thin smile as she came in. "Hello Chloe!" she said brightly, taking a seat on one of the benches. It had been a quiet day, with few new reports of wounded, and the infirmary was practically empty. "How are you doing since.... You know... We got back?" she asked, briefly looking a bit haunted by their ordeal before her sweet smile returned.

Update your sheets, spend exp of which you each get an additional 4, spend your allowances, etc. And make sure that everything's in line with all of the rules changes since your characters were made. Once all the ruleskeeping is over and done with, I can start the two of you in DG3. Anything further from the above can be played out to completion, as I won't deprive you of your well-earned victory smut, but that's entirely up to you.
