Christine ( \oO.Oo/ )

Re: Christine ( \oO.Oo/ )

Dillian sighed and thought about that for a moment. You'd need a placeholder then. Some sign that I am still in your service Christine. I will leave once that service ends. I had assumed removing the collar would be the end of that service, as the collar is the sign of my slavery to you. he said, scratching his head before taking the fish and starting the cooking. You could get another collar to... not sure how but I'm sure the fey make them.

Re: Christine ( \oO.Oo/ )

"Hmph." Seeing as Dillian apparently doesn't need her help at the moment, Christine turns into a fox and dashes off into the forest for a while to calm down. Why am I even angry? He's just being honest.

Re: Christine ( \oO.Oo/ )

A voice unbidden slid into her mind as she dashed away, and a black and violet chaos flame danced from around a nearby tree. It is because he is dear to you now. Tell him. Or don't. If he is Honest, should you not be also? the voice hissed from the flame.

It wasn't Helena, she knew it wasn't, but the only voice she could recognize from the magics boiling off the dancing flame would be hers, a reflection of her nature, chaotic, mischievous, dangerous and oooo so tempting.

This flame did something odd however. The others had wandered, seemingly aimless. This one broke the pattern by holding a pattern. It never got closer then 10 feet to her, and never backed away, instead orbiting her slowly, taking it's time. She knew this flame would have no transformative effect like the one Ashlie had been born of. This one promised power of some kind, open and malevolent.

Re: Christine ( \oO.Oo/ )

"Oh, shut up," Christine mutters, getting a bit more distance from the camp and looking more closely at the flame. The promise of more power was tempting - gods know she'd need all the power she could get if she wanted to take down the church - but dealing with Helena and the angel had convinced her that even if the source of the power had nothing but goodwill towards her, it could still come back to bite her in the ass.

That Is the Nature of Real Power... The flame hissed, taking the shape of a double edged sword, and a hand formed on each side, both bleeding purple before the shape faded.

It is the nature of this power... I am a reflection a shimmer, I will fade when you leave, so I do not want you to. My existence is fleeting so do not waste this moment for me by being so callous. Regardless of your overall choice, when you leave, or accept. I die. It said, before taking the shape of a slender creature. Humanoid, but made entirely of those flames, 3 eyes inside it's head, the center one shining like a star against a body that was void wreathed in fire.

Re: Christine ( \oO.Oo/ )

Christine blinks in surprise as the flame proves to be even more peculiar than it had appeared. "Like a reflection in a mirror, whether I break the mirror or leave, it is born to be destroyed. Only, I have yet to meet a reflection that could talk. I sense power in you. Where does that power come from?" Changing shape herself, Christine sits down facing the flame and taking this opportunity to learn more.

Re: Christine ( \oO.Oo/ )

She could feel the creature gently brushing her mind, and then something deeper that made her tails tingle. But it wasn't invasive, like it was learning, strengthening it's reflection to answer the question. We are like the epicenters of whirlpools it feels. I can sense strength all around me but not with me, it simply... funnels here. forced through an opening, always spinning, always changing, always shifting. It said, now mirroring the form she had abandoned, being a small 3 eyes fox shaped voidling.

Maybe that is my power, to sense. Maybe it is more. my..... awareness is so short lived I cannot say with certainty. And maybe it is because I understand intrinsically that certainty is a lie. And that Lies are Truths. If something touches you, will I ripple? I do not know... But I am not on This side the veil. If you are on this side of the mirror, then I must be on the other. Maybe my power lies farther beyond then others. Maybe my flame is unique and I am a touch of something deeper beyond the looking glass.

Re: Christine ( \oO.Oo/ )

"So you are of the maelstrom, then. Yet, you are different from the other flames I've seen. Of course, why shouldn't you be when everything else is..." Christine says, thinking furiously. "What power do you offer?"

Re: Christine ( \oO.Oo/ )

The only power I hold, is the power of my birth. While I reflect, you may reflect Me. It said, as a tiny landscape formed between them, and a wave echoed outwards to it's edges, everything twisting and changing, most of the time to harmful, draining, or dangerous effect. The form changed and the wide wave turned into a very narrow cone or beam that caused trees to warp, flesh to tear, wither, heal, turn to stone, a starburst of chaotic energies.

Upon Consummation of this Flame, Christine will gain 1 AoE Warp Wave to effect all Life in a 20 foot radius, and twice a day, to unleash the effect on single targets. This ability requires a full 8 hour rest to replenish and all effects are rolled from this list.
d20 Warpwave effect
1 Target takes 2 Strength damage.
2 Target takes 2 Dexterity damage.
3 Target takes 2 Constitution damage.
4 Target takes 2 Intelligence damage.
5 Target takes 2 Wisdom damage.
6 Target takes 2 Charisma damage.
7 Target gains 1 negative level.
8 Target is blinded or deafened for 1d4 rounds.
9 Target is confused for 1d4 rounds.
10 Target is entangled by filaments of energy for 1d4 rounds.
11 Target becomes fatigued (or exhausted if already fatigued).
12 Target becomes nauseated for 1d4 rounds.
13 Target is stunned for 1d4 rounds.
14 Target is sickened for 1d4 rounds.
15 Target is staggered for 1d4 rounds.
16 Target gains 4d6 temporary hit points.
17 Target is affected by a heal spell (CL = protean’s CR).
18 Target is turned to stone.
19 Target is affected by baleful polymorph (CL = protean’s CR).
20 Portions of target’s body burst with energy of a random type (choose between acid, cold, electricity, or fire), dealing 4d6 points of damage of the appropriate type to the target.

Re: Christine ( \oO.Oo/ )

"Raw chaos, bringing only ruin. Still, power is always tempting..." Christine ponders out loud. Finally, she shakes her head. "Too many things I don't know. I'd say I'm sorry, but... like you yourself said, your existence is fleeting whatever I do." Standing up, Christine heads back to the camp, wondering what she should say to Dillian.

Re: Christine ( \oO.Oo/ )

The void stares back. At least you got to speak with it. Farewell. It was a good life. it said, before the flame slowly furled in on itself, and vanished. but not without consequence as a wave of energy radiated outwards. Christine herself got lost for almost a full hour, unable to remember which direction to head in, and found herself constantly backtracking without meaning to. Worse, all the vegetation in the immediate area withered and blackened. but the flame was gone, so was it's offer, and when Christine made it back, she was none the worse for wear. Food was ready, though Dillian had seen fit to keep it warm on a bed of coals for her, and the others were asleep.

Enjoy your run? he asked innocently.

Re: Christine ( \oO.Oo/ )

Finding herself wandering and backtracking and getting lost when she should be no more than a hundred yards from the camp rapidly frustrates, then angers Christine. As she gets back into the camp, the kitsune is grumbling under her breath. "I found another of those flames. Apparently, it started playing games with me." she says, grabbing some of the food and then snuggling next to Dillian to eat it.

Re: Christine ( \oO.Oo/ )

Dillian slowly wraps an arm around the angry Christine's shoulder as she leans into him to eat. Least everyone is alright. Those flames are trouble. He said, still picking at some fish himself one little bit at a time and relaxing, enjoying a vision of stars he was more used to.

Re: Christine ( \oO.Oo/ )

It takes a while for her to calm down, but at least Christine manages to not take it out on Dillian. "I guess you're right. But they're not all bad. One of them gave us Ashlie, another granted a spider sapience." she replies, eating her food then curling up to sleep.

Re: Christine ( \oO.Oo/ )

They're fire. I think... they'll burn if they're mishandled. was all he said, softly, letting her sleep where she was while he stayed still as a stone, soon drifting off with her.

They awoke in the same place, without problem or interference, and with everyone seeming better and a little happier to be away from the mansion of 1000 grabby things.

Re: Christine ( \oO.Oo/ )

Smiling as she is woken by the morning sun, Christine snaps her fingers and lights the fire with magic before starting to fix breakfast. "Good morning everyone. Ready to go spelunking?"

Re: Christine ( \oO.Oo/ )

Everyone collectively groaned as they woke up, sore for a variety of reasons, except for Dillian who took it upon himself to scratch Christine's ears as she lit the fire.
With the fire Lit, it was Ashlie who made a run for it, holding a small silver pot that she could Bet likely came from the manse, and a small burlap sack. What was in it wasn't apparent until the smell of coffee beans hit Christine's sensitive nose the moment the bag was opened and Ashlie started in on making coffee.

Dillian seemed happy where he was, and... Tam and Hix were still sleeping, Tam curled up on Hix who seemed to enjoy being something of a mattress/cuddlebuddy at the moment

Re: Christine ( \oO.Oo/ )

"I'm glad you thought of getting coffee," Christine says, giving Ashlie a hug before resuming working on the rest of the breakfast, warming up the remaining fish and making simple bread with whatever grains and other ingredients the others had thought to pack, content to let Tam and Hix wake at their own pace, it wasn't like they were in a hurry and it was such a nice morning.

Re: Christine ( \oO.Oo/ )

Me To. Ashlie said, grinning at her own little joke as she let it brew on the fire while Christine made with a simple breakfast. The smell of cooking fish brought Tam around and Hix rose when her cuddlebuddy ottergirl wriggled free, both yawning.

It was odd to see Hix yawn, because she wound up with a large bubble in her chest area that slowly deflated and Christine couldn't tell if Hix was Yawning, or if this was just her watching a slime using a good way to stretch herself out.

Tam sat in front of the fire and waited for fish, Ashlie for Coffee, which smelled of hazelnuts, Christine wanted anything that used to be alive but wasn't anymore, and Dillian seemed... like he didn't really care what he ate as lone as he ate something. Ahhh biology.

No one answered her question about the cave though, only stealing small glances at the entrance full of apprehension.

Re: Christine ( \oO.Oo/ )

Noticing the silence of the others, Christine falls silent as well and sits down with her breakfast once all the food is done, taking her time to enjoy the smell of the coffee as she slowly drinks it.

Getting up after everyone has eaten, she washes the dishes and makes sure everything is packed before picking up her pack. "Ready to go?" Without waiting for an answer, she conjures a foxfire to light the way and heads into the cave.
