A/C is weirdly calming to me. I loved the ones in hotels I had to get one myself. The sound it makes puts me to sleep!

Really depends on the A/C. My very first one was a rather cheap japanese one. It cooled pretty okay, but was loud as frick.
Got a brand one now, on low settings you can actually sleep with it and it can even be a bit calming, like you said. ^^
