What's new

Dlsite forced change

Probably still more pressure from pay system or western censorship Hunting "unhealthy" content offered from foreign site.

DMM blocked foreign IP, Dlsite remove tag and content for foreign IP... I'm surprise JAST, mangagamer... haven't already been made to remove most of their adul content or 've been ditched by card paiement....

Dark ages are coming nearer and nearer....

Funny enough, AI Generated works still show up.

For the Petite tag, I noticed a difference between it being a main (by dev/publisher) tag, the page just give an error message, and a review only tag, page can still be accessed if one has the url, but both cases will hide it from searches and dev/circle pages... the review tag ones also still show up in Favorite menu.

Edit: MSGK is blocked too, Petite Baba (Loli Baba) has yet to be blocked, Shota isn't blocked either.

Some creators are trying to get tags on their products changed to get round the new restrictions imposed on foreigners.

For those with the option, accessing DLsite with VPN set to Japan unlocks all product lines without issues. Payment is still problematic for non-japanese nationals, but it's not completely sealed off yet.

Places like Steam which sometimes get 18+ games from the DLsite catalogue are going to be increasingly frequented for those lacking the VPN workaround.

Just experimented, it's only on the front end that the loli/petite tag got purged. A VPN will apparently get around it, but you don't even need that necessarily. If you already bought a game for instance, you can still access it's page from either your 'purchase history' or 'my items'. From that page, you can also access other loli/petite content from the bottom of the page from the 'other works by this cirlce' or 'users who bought this also bought' or even your own page history. Direct links to the page of a particular loli work still work too.

So it really is just the front end, which makes sense, because they need the web page to keep working for everyone they haven't region locked out of it. I appreciate that they left the back end open for us though.

Still depends on Main (by dev/circle) tags vs Review tags unless they changed that very recently.

What is worrying, is that I couldn't find anywhere on the dlsite any indication of the change... maybe on one Social Media (which I don't use so I can't browse them).

That's some quite impacting change for outside-of-Japan user, so I was expecting some onformation about it from Dlsite to their user, even if only a "read-between-line" thing, but nope....

So..... their arm is twisted soooo damn hard that they can't even comment about it ?

It might equally be a, not mentioning anything so that the simple workarounds that work because they only killed the front end don't get noticed sort of silence. No way to know really.

they did the same for AI Generated stuff, and those still show...

I heard from F95 that the tag "student" also got effected by this. can anyone confirm?

You can still see the tags スクール水着, セーラー服, 先輩/後輩, 同級生/同僚 and 不良/ヤンキー without a JP VPN, so it's not impossible to find synonyms with "student". However, the tag itself is no longer in the searchable list (even though the teacher tags 女教師 and 教師 remain valid).

Tried again with a JP VPN. Far fewer searchable tags with a non Japanese IP. Some popular creators are already considering alternative retail sites because their newest works won't show to viewers outside Japan.

Dunno which tag are affected, but some game I could see at the start of the week, I can't see them anymore without VPN by following the game page link ...
That's more and more tag and product "hidden".

Would have been nice to get a message from Dlsite as a customer with an account on their site -_-
Hope it don't end like DMM...

anyone know a good alternative site that can list games and upcomming games on dlsite to view? I always remember finding some of them when looking for some games (that never had downloads but always linked back to dlsite) and was always annoyed with them way back when, but now they seem like a god for looking at any games with those blocked tags.

There's a ton of JP doujin game review websites, so take your pick on which one you want since all of them have affiliate links to the games they review. It's harder if you're just looking for games in general because you won't be able to see what they can, but it'll give you a general idea of what just released.

If you DO know the title of the game you're interested in but cannot see, it's easier to narrow down the search terms in your preferred search engine to find what you need.

As for me, I currently use three review websites. I used to go to a review aggregator website but no longer do so, they do exist if you can be bothered.

The latter two are very useful because they list recent releases (not just games) and for both DLsite and Fantia. They're based in JP, so are not subject to the viewing restrictions consumers outside Japan are subject to and can see the full catalogue.

So I was watching Youtube just now and got a curious ad......

Apparently DLSite is hiring translators to translate manga and such. The ad was super cutesy and family friendly and I just SEE the writing on the wall now.

Now I'm very concerned that DLSite is going the Tumblr route and wants to ditch the adult side of its site altogether. If they're trying to attract that kind of attention, it's only a matter of time before the family friendly side of DLSite realizes it's got a second face, and then poof, the adult content gets completely gutted. And then it joins the list of MANY websites that have followed suit in such a manner.

That could hurt their revenues... I could also see them cutting back on what kind of adult products they sell.

Fastest way for the managing company behind DLsite to declare voluntary insolvency if it wanted to pivot away from 18+ products, so not happening. As the dominant part of the effective duopoly in online doujin product retail for Japan, the only issue they have at the moment is foreign users and their relative lack of payment options.

They know full well the family friendly part of the website supplements the 18+ component, so the ad tries to convince clueless translators who don't know any better. Especially when their extensive of AI translation for just about anything in their roster is taken into consideration.

I've remarked that since the last few days, trying to acces a game's page for a game "removed" from your country get a "opps, seem the game work is not avaiable to your country" instead of a "error, work not found".

So it got me thinking since Dlsite ain't officially comunicating about this whole changing deal.

1) Are the work bought but now not accessible still downloadable from your account ?
2) if you use VPN to buy an "unaccesible work", is there going to be problem with Dlsite if you log in again without using VPN ?
3) and as I see more and more peoples seeking way to by-pass the "ip" problem, as anyone any recommendation for a) free VPN or b) pay VPN if anyone feel like taking the step ?

1) still accessible to download, Manga/CGs and Videos can still be viewed in DLPlay viewer.
2) So far, doesn't seem to be any issues.

Yeah, I checked my account and can still download games with region-locked store pages.
