Coming from a company that changed their terms of service when they were called out on breaching their own rules, this is hardly surprising.
If someone sells eggs, it doesn't mean that he's a chicken, you know.Don't tell me you people were expecting some manner of moral standard from a company that peddles in rape games and violations of intellectual property.
"It's about ethics in chinese tentacle rape porn!" Keep your outrage culture BS out of my porn, please.
I doubt that, it's even the other way around: the Japanese community is far better informed on the pros and cons of Japanese games than the Western community. But, if this is only done on the English side, then could it be a way to prevent feedback towards Eastern game developers?
Sorry, I had the urge to answer that oneedit : jesus christ manamana if you talk to them they'll think their opinion matters! Delete it now! before they see it!
It depends on the platform, but yeah forum with people you can trust is your best bet.TBH this kind of business practice is all too common anymore, so I'm not surprised. I'd say to put your trust into third-party sites, but even those are losing their credibility (see various mainstream gaming sites for what I mean). At this point you're pretty much left with asking about it in a forum that isn't associated with any of the businesses that might be making profit off of the item reviewed.
wait what? please, tell me the story behind this. this has got to be good.
Well, for starters, when they pay you for game sales they use incorrect exchange rates (aka give you less), and take the difference themselves.
In their terms of service, at one point it said that it could be off by 5, at most. However, after looking at the exchange rates at the time, and their terms of service, I realized that it was off by more than 10, to the point where they were taking hundreds of dollars with each sales report.
When I emailed them about it, they gave me a slightly better rate (but still stealing money), and changed their terms of service so that they could make it off by even more than it said before. As it stands, if you make $1000 you can bet that they'll be stealing at least $100 from you.
As an example, looking back at Christmas sales, they sent me $1346
However, if you look at the exchange rates at the time, they shaved off $126.
Not to defend DLsite, but thats just how currency exchange works. Try withdrawing foreign currency from an ATM machine. You'll get slapped with a foreign ATM machine fee AND a foreign exchange fee AND you'll probably get a slightly lower than market exchange rate. (And yes, I travel quite a bit and get slapped with these fees ALL the time. There are "ways" to mitigate it *cough*pay more fees*cough* but you can't win.)
Now if you were a multinational corporation that deals with multiple currencies (and the weight to swing around with it) you could bitch slap DLsite into their place ("Yes, the Euro, Yen and GBP have different exchange rates, so give it to me in Euros, Yens and GBPs. No, I don't want you to convert it into USDs, I'll take care of it."), but if you're not... well. YOU LOSE.
This probably isn't an issue with DLsite itself, but Curious Factory who act as an intermediary for non-Japanese stuff.
It wouldn't surprise me if they're pulling this shit without DLsite's knowledge, in which case the best course of action is to get someone to interpret and bring this up with the main DLsite office.
Yeah, that's true.
Dlsite still takes a lot from Japanese Circle's profit (from what I've seen in the Japanese circle agreement), but it's true that the exchange rate stuff would be the fault of curious factory.
I always forget to differentiate between the two -__-
the very idea of "editing" someone's review sort of defeats the purpose.
I'm 100% sure this is a cultural miscalculation. We Americans have a rabid obsession with "free speech" that other cultures / countries do not necessarily have.
