Re: Evelen (Tiffanian)
This crate was easier to open than the metal chest had been, and the contents were less harmful, but no less strange. There was a pair of four inch high heels made of leather, shoes Evelen had never seen before. They weren’t even one of her mother’s pairs, at least that she knew of. She had never walked in heels before, but had been meaning to practice at some point before the end of next year, when she would have to go to junior prom. Her attention was turned next to the door, and she decided to push her bed over to it to block it off. The young girl was already sweating, as much from fear as exertion, and picked up the radio.
It worked, the batteries were still good, but as soon as Evelen turned it on it emitted a loud, lewd moan. She quickly turned the volume way down and pressed it against her ear, beginning to scan stations… Most all of them were empty static, but there were a few music channels still running. And then there was what she recognized as the news station. It wasn’t live, she could tell, but there was a looping warning broadcast running, though it was breaking up and filled with static. Her eyes went wide as she heard it… warnings to leave the city, calling it a “holocaust,” reports of radiation and thieves. She flipped the station again, continuing to scan around for answers, until finally she reached something that was a little more clear. Apparently there had been something in space that had done something to solar flares? Maybe? She didn’t really get it. What came after, though, made more sense. Whatever had caused it, strange and terrible things had come out from either space or the ground, she couldn’t be sure, and the city had been evacuated. Only thieves remained, the police too busy helping others get to safety to really care.
Evelen turned the radio off, pale as a ghost. Why had her mother left her here? Why couldn’t she remember any of this? Why had she been hiding in the bathroom? There didn’t seem to be anyone else in the house with her, they would have heard her, so why did the thieves leave their bags and things? She didn’t know any of the answers, but she did know that she had to get out of here. She couldn’t do it naked, though… So, even as lewd as it was, the fishnet dress would be better than nudity, so she decided to put it on. The heels… She couldn’t wear them, but she would take them with her in case she desperately needed shoes. And the radio she would definitely bring along. Once she was dressed and had her things, she would move the bed again and creep out into her house, trying to check it for more useful things, now somewhat convinced that she was alone inside it.
