Re: Everybody Needs a Hero (Termite)

(Yeah, the attachments here don't display full size, didn't know what when I posted it

Still 3 turns out from radio working btw)

The rest of the hand out was just street layouts of the main city and of the suburbs. Individual buildings were not marked. Max peered over her sholder as Bea looked. "Well, they said it was ON Route 3, if I remember correctly. Hopefully that means we can just walk along it and look for a sign. Lets get moving." Max held the door for the other two to exit, Frankie lead the way to the road, which was still a few blocks over. Still nothing in sight in any direction. "Anything left you want to do here, I really want to get moving..."

Re: Everybody Needs a Hero (Termite)

The group made their way down the street. Within a few blocks they got to a sign that designated the crossing road as Route 3. The intersection was clogged with cars. Every single road marked on the map was probably a major evacuation route, this road would probably be pretty hard to traverse. On the plus side, it was pretty wide, three lanes each direction, not counting turn lanes, quite a rarity for a non-freeway type road. Unfortunately, this also ment the group had a hard descision, one which the ever thinking Max caught right away. "Unless we split up, we might miss something important. But that'll spread us out a little too much to stay safe..." He didn't seem to have the answer, the statement was more of a probe for opinons.

"Let's just stay on one side of the road. One person takes a path down the lane dividers so we can see inside the cars on our side while also preventing anything from sneaking up on us. So that just leaves which way to go... How about South?"

Re: Everybody Needs a Hero (Termite)

"Yeah, I assume South, they did say outside of the city, right?" Max spread out to go down the center, letting Frankie escort Bea down their side, though of course Frankie was only as much of an escort as Bea would let him be. Max didn't really trust Frankie to make a good lookout, so took that job himself.

The trip was slow going, they made it about a kilometer and a half before the sun started to show signs that it was getting late. The journey had been very borring. Most of these cars were long ago looted, or had their contents dumped onto the street to blow in the wind, which was picking up quite a bit. The landscape didn't vary much, lots of gas stations and the like. Everyone was constantly on the look out, but all was still. It was almost strange, the lack of monsters so far.

Finally, the group came to a bridge over the loop freeway. Max motioned to hold up, and ran over from his center position. "I havn't seen heads or tails of what we're looking for so far. I hope it isn't much farther. This looks like a big bridge, we wanna rest a bit before crossing? Though I'll admit, we aren't getting much farther before night."

Re: Everybody Needs a Hero (Termite)

After having found nothing in the vast number of cars they passed Bea started getting a little lazy. She only offered a short glance here and there as they continued their walking search. Her attention seemed focused on the landscape around them and any possible threats that may start jumping in their way. Thankfully nothing popped up, and the three were allowed to continue on their merry way.

Once they reached the bridge Max rejoined the pair in their lane and offered his bit of wisdom. It was getting late, and the bridge would take some time to cross. "Keep going. I'd rather get over this thing as soon as possible before we start needing to look for a place to rest. We can take five at the top and maybe scout around a bit."

Re: Everybody Needs a Hero (Termite)

The group started up the ramp. Frankie was in the lead, the least tired. They were all moving alot slower now, their guard couldn't help but relax a bit. As such, they were only about halfway to the top when they heard a chittering sound, or, more accurately, Frankie heard it. Showing amazing tactical thought compared to what he ususaly did, he stopped suddenly, motioning for the other two to do the same. With the sound of footsteps gone, they could clearly hear several things moving around below the bridge...

Re: Everybody Needs a Hero (Termite)

Watching Frankie signal everyone to stop instead of charging in immediately put Bea on alert, and once she had a moment of silence and relaxation she could hear the chittering that sounded like it was underneath them. This could be really bad. Either there were a bunch of spiders on the ground below them, or there was a nest of them practically right under their feet. That last one sounded more likely given what she knew about arachnid behavior.

The woman chose to stop and listen for a bit to try and determine where exactly these bugs were located. Hopefully they managed to actually walk over the pack without being noticed, so maybe they could continue without drawing attention. If it sounded like the spiders were a little farther up the bridge then she'd signal the group to start heading back the way they came. Either way she kept turning her head from side to side searching for any unusual movement and any possible spider threads they may have missed.

Re: Everybody Needs a Hero (Termite)

No one took a step as Bea started to try and locate the noises. Unfortunately, from the best she could tell, they were right under her. Frankie went and put one ear to ground, then pointed as if they were right under him too. That was bad, he was a good ways ahead of the Bea and Max. Max carefull got down at his position more towards the center of the bridge, putting his ear to the ground to. His expression said it all, more over there too. Monsters could be under the entire length of the bridge...

Re: Everybody Needs a Hero (Termite)

Shit... With monsters all along the underside of the bridge the group would need to remain quiet all the way across. At reduced speed they may not get fully across before the spiders start becoming more active as the sun set. But they would need to cross this eventually, and if they haven't alerted the beasts by now then they barring any clumsiness they could get to the other side before getting swarmed. It was all just a matter of timing.

Caught between pushing forward and a tactical retreat Bea looked to the sky to see how much time they'd have before the light started fading, then she looked to the length of the bridge as well as her position. If it looked like everyone could get across before the sun started setting then she'd risk it, but if the shadows of the vehicles were about to start hitting the side of the bridge then she'd signal the guys to turn around.

Re: Everybody Needs a Hero (Termite)

The best estimate of the time said that if they didn't cross now, they wouldn't be able to make it over the freeway before nightfall. Fortunately, the monsters didn't seem to notice the group. Running would probably alert them, but a slow cautious one at a time retreat would probably work.

Re: Everybody Needs a Hero (Termite)

Advance, retreat, advance, retreat... Retreat. They couldn't see the entire bridge, and there could be some kind of obstacle in the way that would block their path and leave them stranded while night fell and left them sitting ducks for the spiders she believed were getting ready to move. She very carefully waved her hand to get they guys' attention before signaling that she was heading back.

If they did manage to get down safely Bea would start heading toward the last building she remembered passing on their way here. They needed to find cover and fast, and even though there were a number of cars littered all over the place they would make a poor place to spend the night. Anything that passed by could just look through a window to see them, and even if they found a work van they would still need to close the windows. That would lead to those windows fogging, a dead give away that someone was inside. If they wanted to stay safe they needed something with walls and a lockable door.

Re: Everybody Needs a Hero (Termite)

Stealth Checks

14+11+16 = 41 vs 38 = 8+30 Bea, PASS
9+13+15 = 37 vs 46 = 16+30 Max, FAIL
(Frankie doesn't get a chance now that Max failed)

Order Roll
Bea 1+21 = 22 Last!
Max 4+30 = 34 Third
Frankie 19+30 = 49 First
Spider 1 15+25 = 40 Second
Spider 2 6+25 = 31 Fourth
Spider 3 3+25 = 28 Fifth

The group heads back, but Max trips over a rouge piece of wood he didn't spot, letting out a small cry and he falls. A group hiss can be heard echoing from below the bridge. All is quiet for a moment, then three spiders just up over the rail on the far side, surprising the group with their speed.

Hit Chances

1: 2 + 41 - 21 = 22 // 2 + 33 = 35 ... failure
2: 15 + 15 - 21 = 9 // 14 + 33 = 47 ... failure
3: 16 + 21 - 21 = 16 // 1 + 33 = 34 ... failure
4: 33 + 8 - 21 = 20 // 14 + 33 = 47 ... failure
5: 16 + 30 - 21 = 25 // 7 + 33 = 40 ... failure
6: 18 + 37 - 21 = 34 // 12 + 33 = 45 ... failure

Frankie draws his gun and fires into the group, but his lack of skill, combined with how tired he is, causes him to miss all shots!

Grapple

16+43 = 59 vs 50 = 7+43

One of the spiders leaps before anyone else can react. It pounces on Max, keeping him down on the ground.

Hit Chance

10+35 = 45 vs 55 = 12+43

Max tries to bring his melee weapon around, but can't get a good angle on the spider hovering above him. The other two spiders advance towards Bea and Frankie.

Re: Everybody Needs a Hero (Termite)

For a few seconds Bea thought everything would be fine. All the had to do was head back exactly the way they came. But that all ended when Max tripped over something she couldn't see. When she saw the spiders crawling over the side her worst fears were realized. "Shit!"

Frankie seemed to be on the ball today. He immediately started firing, but his shots went wide as they usually did. A moment later she saw one of the creatures leaping into the air, and when Max went down she completely ignored everything else. She needed to get that thing off that man before it started trying to bite him.

(If at all possible have Bea move in for a melee attack on the spider grappling Max. If not then shoot it.)

Re: Everybody Needs a Hero (Termite)

Hit Chance

2+40 = 42 vs 46 = 13+33

Frankie was rather upset about his lack of a hit. Maybe the man was starting to get some common sense and realize he should play Rambo. He countercharges the spider heading for him. He does a spectacular flying leap attack, but misses slightly. Maybe he isn't wisening up...

Hit Chance

20+43 = 63 vs 36 = 1+35 (Damn, I'm tempted to implent a critical hit rule for this)

Damage, Bite (2d10)

2 + 6 = 8

The spider sinks its fangs into Max's neck, completly ignoring the man's attempts to fight back. He lets out a kind of choked yell as the venom gets injected in.

Grapple Escape

17+35 = 52 vs 45 = 2+43

A burst of strength lets Max throw the spider off of him. Getting bit really spurned him into action, this lines up a shot for Bea, but before she can get her rifle ready, the other two spiders cause a little chaos.

Grapple Attempt

5+43 = 48 vs 38 = 8+40

Frankie's spider leaps at him, getting up on its hind legs. The two grapple about for a few seconds, but the spider is at a big disadvatange if it can't flip the man over. It gets tossed back. The spider heading for Bea closes the distance just as she's bringing up her rifle to fire, almost blocking the shot!

Hit Attempts (This rifle ignores range, just its recoil is considered, also only five rounds are held in it, so thats why I didn't roll 6 times)

1: 6 + 9 - 14 = 1 // 6 + 33 = 39 ... failure
2: 21 + 13 - 14 = 20 // 17 + 33 = 50 ... failure
3: 5 + 13 - 14 = 4 // 6 + 33 = 39 ... failure
4: 38 + 9 - 14 = 33 // 11 + 33 = 44 ... failure
5: 20 + 6 - 14 = 12 // 6 + 33 = 39 ... failure

(Holy crap, real crappy rolls x.x Statistically you should have hit twice)

Bea isn't used to the rifle, and as such, the massive recoil causes her to miss all shots. Good thing no one is in direct danger right now.

Suddenly, a massive roar is heard from under the bridge, the ground starts to shake. Something massive is moving out from under the bridge.

Re: Everybody Needs a Hero (Termite)

(So why did everyone else get to move a second time before me?)

"FUCK GUNS!" That was it. The rifle was slung onto her back, and she wasn't going to touch it any-

ROAR!

Bea nearly lost her footing when the bridge started to shake, but she kept herself steady enough to reach for that golf club and hopefully catch the spider right next to her if it was still stumbling. Whatever was still waiting around under their feet sounded like it would be a gigantic pain in the ass to fight, and she wanted to get rid of these little fuckers before the big one came too close.

Re: Everybody Needs a Hero (Termite)

(Crap, yeah, your part should have been at the start. These big mega fights get a big confusing. Fortunately, it wouldn't have made a difference.)

Hit Chance

14+43 = 57 vs 44 = 11+33

Damage

3+(22/2) = 14

Bea hits the spider right in its "face" causing the thing to let out a spider's version of a scream. Unfortunately, it seems to only piss it off more.

Hit Chance

14+40 = 54 vs 38 = 5+33

Damage

(25/2) = 13

Frankie kicks at the spider again, this time connecting. The impact makes a dull "thud" sound as the spider lines up for another jump attempt.

Grapple

17+43 = 60 vs 63 = 20+43

Max continues to get is game on, dodging a jump from his spider, then preparing a counter attack.

Hit Chance

9+43 = 52 vs 47 = 14+33

Damage

9+(20/2) = 19

Max swings the bat like a pro, catching the beast square in the underside, lifting it up slightly. However, it doesn't go down, and will be ready to attack again soon.

Grapple

14+43 = 57 vs 44 = 4+40

Frankie's spider manages to pounce him. The idiot was to busy celebrating his victorious hit to dodge.

Grapple

15+43 = 58 vs 53 = 10+43

Bea's spider rebounds and pounces her too. She slides along the pavement from the force of the blow slightly. Even though she's down on the ground, she can see the large spider arrive on top the bridge. The thing is large enough to be a spider queen!

Re: Everybody Needs a Hero (Termite)

Things were not looking well. Bea was trapped by the spider she attacked, Frankie was doing no better, and Max had been bit a few seconds earlier. He seemed to be holding his own for now, but there was no telling what kind of effect the venom would have. And all that paled when Big Momma finally appeared.

Bea needed to escape, and she couldn't use her weapon this close. Or maybe she could. She may not be able to attack with the club, but by reversing her grip she could use the handle to poke it in the face. If she was lucky and managed to hit an eye the pain of the attack should make it retreat.

(Unless you want to figure out how to calculate the handle as a stick in the eye I figure it would work as an unarmed attack.)

Re: Everybody Needs a Hero (Termite)

Hit Chance

10+38 = 48 vs 49 = 6+43

Bea jabs, and misses! The spider dodges left as the last possible second. The club does touch the monster, but fails to cause any damage.

Escape Grapple

17+40 = 47 vs 58 = 15+43

Frankie tries to throw the spider off him, and actually rolls on top of the spider, reversing the hold, but only for a moment. Soon he's back on his back, still stuck.

Grapple

9+43 = 52 vs 53 = 10+43

Max only narrowly avoids getting pounced once again. He's really, really motivated by that bite.

Hit Chances

1: 9 + 29 - 12 = 26 // 4 + 33 = 37 ... failure
2: 38 + 48 - 12 = 74 // 20 + 33 = 53 ... success
3: 6 + 8 - 12 = 2 // 6 + 33 = 39 ... failure
4: 33 + 48 - 12 = 69 // 7 + 33 = 40 ... success
5: 39 + 48 - 12 = 75 // 19 + 33 = 52 ... success
6: 9 + 33 - 12 = 30 // 19 + 33 = 52 ... failure

Damage

: 2 + 2 = 4
2: 3 + 3 = 6
3: 6 + 4 = 10

Max remembers he has a revolver. The rush, while good for his melee skills, didn't exactly make him think things through. He fires into the spider, causing it serious harm with three impacts. It does not get back up from the blows, but it's still alive. The spider now has 1 HP.

Bite Hit Chance

12+43 = 55 vs 57 = 17+40

Frankie's spider tries to do the same trick that happened to Max, but the short man trashes enough to avoid being bit!

Submission Hold

5+43 = 48 vs 41 = 3+38

The spider of Bea doesn't like her struggling. Using sharp tipped legs, it manages to goad her struggles into pinning her own arms behind her back, then it slams down on top, preventing any options but escape.

The lumbering spider closes in from down the bridge. Bea is a bit busy right now, but she can clearly see a few more spiders behind the large one now...

Re: Everybody Needs a Hero (Termite)

"Max, big bastard incoming!" From what little she could see after getting pinned the tall man only had to step on his spider to kill it. Hopefully he could do something about the bastard on top of her, but Frankie was also having trouble with his. Whatever Max decided to do Bea wasn't about to let herself be held down like last time, so instead of trying to roll to her side she arched her body up and pressed her arms out to force a little breathing room.
