Best condition could mean getting all the power-ups. Boy that sounds tedious...
Edited: FINALLY FOUND ALL FOUR GOLDEN GEARS!
1- Hidden inside a small pillar just above the underwater current. Have to use missile to break it.
2 - This one is a little difficult to pinpoint. After getting missile and wall kick, go back to the vertical tunnel right above the red fish boss stage. Keep wall-kicking and use missile to break the brick that blocked the tunnel and advance from there. If you have cleared the game you should be familiar with this place. At the lower right side of this map, there's a water tunnel leading to a small strong current section that has a Red-cross brick. Use missile to break it and there you go. ***Note: This is the only time you can get it. Once the water turns red, you won't make it to the Red-cross brick since the strong current will knock your back as you get damaged.***
3 - At the top of the central tower.
4 - Inside a small underwater section in the enemy base, the map to the left of the "enemy base save room". To reach this place, you can't get caught at all since getting caught once means you won't have guns to open the tunnel after escaping and the water turns red once you retrieve your guns. The section also has strong water current that will push you back as you get damaged by the red water.
Right after you beat the first fish boss there's a broken hole that leads to an empty cave. There you can find a slate that has 'There's a secret at the corner of storage room's ceiling ' (rough translation) written on it.
Edited: I mixed up "card" and "corner" since their katakana look quite similar. And nope, the "secret" was just a missile power-up at the right corner of the first boss room.

I doubt getting a single gold gear off the tower would accomplish anything. A slate in a certain save room states there are four of them which suggest that collecting all may unlock the "Artifact collector" CG. You may need to ask for a save that obtained two golden gears before the one at tower.
And shit I'm at the last part of the game on expert difficulty and I'm missing out the last 1/3 extra hp piece.
I have no idea about the total number of missile power-up available, yet.

For anyone that is interested: after some testing apparently this game requires just 2 things to launch:
- the format of date and time to be set to Japanese
- and the default input language to be set to Japanese (if it is not set to default then when launching the game it will change to your default language which will prevent the game from launching)
If you are launching the game and see a black screen with a warning - means that you didn't set something from the above to japanese
When everything is OK the game will launch with a white screen that goes into foxeye abyss logo.

I'm still drowning in the water current. and I believe I searched all the area's from the start all the way back to the water current, haven't found anything new, so maybe it's a bug to drown before you get to the end of the current, I would make it if she didn't stop to grab her mouth.

I found out that the area where the second fish boss is supposed to appear can get bugged. The area is where you drop down into brown water with lots of tentacles. Right before the drop it is actually possible to jump out of the crawlspace and come all the way around to the same area from the bottom. If you do that before dropping down into the water and fighting the fish boss - the fish boss will never appear and the only cure for that is to restart the game (as in start from the beginning on a new save file).

After get the Wavegun upgrade, go back to Lizard Boss place, go jump above where he spawned.
You'll see little path to the right. go thru it to continue...
(Remember this path is one way with no return so be prepared collecting all E upgrade before going, or better, separate save)

So, I got stuck. I'm in the part where the guards lost the key card, I went and checked the bird's nest, talked to the guard again but nothing happens.
There's also some underground part where are some Lamias and Snakes that petrify you. I reached a place where there are some platforms but can't do anything there. Help, please.

Afaik: you need to speak to guards near the underground entrance first - then go to the nest and use it.
