Games Discussion Thread

Re: Games Discussion Thread

I've only pirated because:

  1. Earthbound is too expensive.
  2. Cheeta Men is not only expensive, but hard to find and shitty. I just wanted to experience it.
  3. I Have No Mouth But I Must Scream was too short, and I'm not a fan of adventure games.
  4. I needed a program for a very short time, but it costed about $400. Actually, a few programs.
  5. If a company won't translate a game, screw them, I'm playing the fan translation.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Are you talking about the SNES Earthbound? If you are it's not really piracy.

I know they want you to think that, but there is seriously no other way to get that game. No one is losing any money. Unless nintendo has released it on the Wii's digital store, in which case you'd have to already have a wii or shell out the $200 I think for it.

Speaking of Earthbound, I'd kind of like to see nintendo do something with the IP. If nintendo started putting out RPG's again, I'd be buying them like hotcakes. Unless they were Blue dragon hotcakes, I mean seriously did anyone even as a kid enjoy a character that was a loud whiney piss-pot that refused to shut the fuck up? Bd's gameplay was classic JRPG, but I had to mute my goddamn tv to keep from breaking it whenever that yellow thing showed up.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

It's only piracy if a sale is actually lost. Downloading something that's not on the shelves anymore and can't be found through normal means doesn't count in my eyes.

Well, I guess.
I kind of count it if you can obtain it in some way.

I agree completely and i full-heartedly hope to see Nintendo Try to do something else with the Mother series/Earthbound Series. Since the creator basically said he was done, that leaves everything up to what Nintendo wants to do, but sadly Reggie really doesn't seem to like the IP much at all sadly. We can all keep hoping though. I wouldn't even mind if they branched off with a new name for the series, i just loved its rpg elements.

You took something that didn't belong to yourself for free, despite there being a cost for said product. This means you get the product, yet the developers do not get the money for making that product that you are now enjoying.

There may not be a physical copy, but your argument is essentially stating that developers should just hand you the game and say "fuck it, don't pay us. We don't need money to eat, pay bills, etc. etc."

You are saying that you can get something for nothing, but it's perfectly fine because you didn't take a physical copy.

Either you're reading that completely wrong or I am, because what I am seeing is that he's saying that piracy is okay, if and only if there's no way to pay for the product.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

I'm tired, and I read it wrong...

basically thought it said "Since the pirate does not take a physical copy, it's not pirating" which is an argument I've heard often. Even Notch said it.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Do you mean stealing? Because pirating definitely isn't the same as theft. They're both immoral, but they're not the same thing.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Nope, that's the argument I've heard.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

booo, took too long to post

Also booo, took too long to edit

Sorry for that, I've gotta learn to hit the enter key before I walk away from the comp.

As I said, I read it wrong, and was more at this point responding to the argument that piracy is fine because no physical copies are taken...

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Piracy is still theft, and just because you wouldn't have bought it if you didn't pirate it doesn't change that.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Personaly i believe that piracy is a subset of theft, because you are taking something that doesn't belong to you. it doesn't matter that they have infinite left and that object has 0 actual production value, its a moral issue, piracy is theft.

should that stop you doing it? well thats up to you. as far as theft goes its as benign as possible but never let an excuse turn something that is wrong into something that is right.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Are we still talking about earthbound? If not disregard this.

If you can't buy something (within reason, more than $20 for a second-hand copy earthbound is fucking rediculous) and there's a way to get it that causes no harm or loss of profit from those who produced it. How is that in any way wrong?

Personally, I think the game would be worth $100 since it's excellent.
I just can't pay that money.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Here's a thought... Maybe the companies should start distributing ROMs themselves against a minor fee.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

So. I've been getting back into Dante's Inferno. I have seriously forgotten how fun this game is.

The story is honestly fairly well-done. At least it doesn't try to mindfuck you or mess with your head like a few popular games I've played do.

The gameplay is honestly freaking awesome if you like God of War-type games, plus the platforming doesn't fuck you over at all times of the day. And the combat, honestly, is very VERY satisfying if you just want to cut things to bits.

Overall, it's a good buy if you want God of War-style gameplay on your 360. Plus, tits.

I've never been talking about that game specifically.

It was fairly fun, and an interesting way to turn an old poem into a playable game... but honestly the tits weren't that amazing. Though I suppose I could be talking to the wrong crowd about using sexuality as part of story telling and art, and not just porn.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

I dunno, those tits with mouth-nipples...
