Re: Games Discussion Thread
Moonbearkers is indeed damn fun.
Munchkin/obsessive's tip: find a time when nobody's playing, start a destroy-carrier mission (broadside is the best for this) and, after learning the tricks needed to fight turrets in the F3, take the whole carrier out by yourself. Net gain of 7400 Cred. (said tricks are: you need to dumb-fire a missile as you go in, so that the turrets target the missile instead of yourself. Loop the protrusions at the four corners of the ship, taking advantage of the slow turn-rate of the turrets to destroy the two that keep popping up. Do this for all four protrusions, then take out the turrets on the top/bottom as well as the side; this only requires smart use of boosts. Once all turrets are dead, kill yourself by ramming the ship, swap to the bomber and have at the carrier. Keep in mind that the bomber's nukes have a minimum range of about 1000m; if you're too close they won't prime. If you’re good, you can do this without dying, and it’ll probably only take a bit over 10 of the round’s 15m.)
Second Tip: Corkscrew by holding left/right and aiming off-centre. this can potentially make you harder to hit, which can help immensely in jousting situations. I've yet to really have much of a go with it, but I saw someone else using it to seemingly great effect. Of course, that person was also lagging all over the place, making them hellish to hit anyway...
Also, if you are after space dogfights, I CANNOT recommend Moon Breakers (Free on Steam, or you can play it in-browser via Chrome) enough. The ship growth feels right, and although I do disagree on the 'free play' prices for ships (Unless yer boosting, the prices are quite a bit steep :/), playing through Steam equals a few nice DLC bundles for a 20% discount from the standard HE-3 (the Pay currency) prices. I also put up a nice guide on the Steam Forum to get people started. All and all, if you liked the space combat sections of Star Wars Battlefront, or just like off-rails space shooters and don't got vertigo, I really suggest ya give it at least a small spin. After all, can't beat the price to try it.
