Re: Hounds Of The Blade

sooo there's been an update on the website and it has a negative tone to it. it's not making much sense on googletranslate. anyone know what's going on?

Re: Hounds Of The Blade

it seems the author is going through an emo phase and started insulting his own games with mildly harmful language, not sure what's going on but he could be drunk on a saturday afternoon, who knows, but he does mention he will continue making games

Re: Hounds Of The Blade

Hopefully he's just having a bit of a frustrating time with coding or something and not wanting to quit this project as well...

Re: Hounds Of The Blade

platanus, is the author not, simply, apologizing for speaking as if he was a "full-fledged game creator", when really he is "only" scripting in the GameMaker platform? I have the impression he is embarassed by the way his previous comments have come off, not by the games themselves.

^ pretty much what i understood from google translate aswell, though someone more japanese understanding could confirm :p

Re: Hounds Of The Blade

I am not sure what comments he made before, but regardless it seems like he really thinks the games are "shit" (in his own words).

自分の作ってるゲームなんて、所詮はただのクソゲでした。
そのことに気が付きました。

"The game(s) I made, was (were) just shit game(s) afterall.
I came to realization of it."

He then goes on to say that he was mistaken about thinking he's making great games, when he's just using materials he grabbed from the web and putting them on GameMaker.

But yes legraf, he did apologize for his attitude of thinking he was a full-fledged game creator. So you are right about him apologizing for being too arrogant.

I don't know how it all started, I am just translating the blog entry without references to anything else, such as the comments he might have made previously that triggered all this.

Considering most game developers use block programming to code their games, I don't think he has anything to be embarrassed about.

Re: Hounds Of The Blade

really....wow I wish I could grab things off the web and make a game.

Re: Hounds Of The Blade

Who cares, he's creating something out of small pieces of things. It's like any art form, you can't be 100% original, the best you can do is take styles and techniques from others and combine them to make your own version.

So I hope he doesn't let that get him down, I mean being arrogant is never good, I don't know if he was being arrogant about anything but if he feels like he was, it may be good if he relaxes a bit. We all post here because we like his work after all.

Re: Hounds Of The Blade

perhaps we should write in to his blog and give him some words of encouragement

Re: Hounds Of The Blade

I'm pretty sure I tried once, and there is one of those picture captions in Japanese so unless you can read what it says you can't. though it would be great to let him know he has followers on this side.

Re: Hounds Of The Blade

No question, what he (?) is doing is well beyond so much of what is being sold out there, there's no question inu factory is creative, regardless of the platform. Well, a few words of reassurance today from his/her blog (just google translated here)

Re apology
I'm sorry, I was mentally unstable for the past few days.

I made the game as usual today.

I am sorry to have troubled.

Re: Hounds Of The Blade

emo phase for sure, it happens to everyone

but anyway more Hounds Of The Blade development = more happy faces :)

Re: Hounds Of The Blade

Back when nanocrisis was in development I made several posts and even started making a game myself using his method. He uses DAZ3d and their premade models to make animations then renders sprites out of DAZ and pastes into gamemaker. I have no objections to this method but it does not require art skill just coding which is what stopped my game.

Re: Hounds Of The Blade

Everybody has bad days/times. Best not to post anything to the public during them, but I understand it. Hope he's alright.

Re: Hounds Of The Blade

I hope he REALLY finish this game! And I still dream about the dogs and flies as enemies like in Nanocrisis...

Re: Hounds Of The Blade

16 pages and no one mentioned this game CG(aya) kinda look like this H-artist drawing style: Kenji Kishizuka

Kenji is one fine H artist
Look it up xD

I think you're quite wrong about it not taking art skill. Don't think of it as drawing or painting, think of it as photography. Choosing the right angles, composition, lighting - that all takes skill. As does getting the movement and facial expressions right. There's worlds of difference between good 3d stuff and bad 3d stuff (which is most of it).

That said, most people who get really into the art side quickly progress beyond DAZ.

Re: Hounds Of The Blade

The gif's I made are gone, but rendering the sprites was easy and quite fun. it was gamemaker that got me.

I'm not saying it doesnt take skill and mainly TIME, but it's the only option for us left brain people who cant art...
(damn I'm really mad my gifs are gone, they were really good)
