The new art style looks fantastic. If you were to release a toned down version would you also have a more hardcore version via a patch or something?

Re: Malise and the Machine - Public Demo Available Now!

Eromancer's patreon has come under review by the "Trust and safety team". I'm suspecting the patreon probably violated the adult content guidelines in some way :D. Although I can't be sure about the exact shutdown reason, I am willing to bet that the development is now permanently banned from Patreon. They have been pretty lax so far to ban adult content creators, which is funny considering their dumb-ass CEO went on the Rubin Report and explicitly stated that they don't allow porn on their site. Then again, why raise a stink when you can make money. The patreocalypse is still coming though and all patreon-creators should prepare to get banned as well. Anyways, I wonder where Malice and the Machine will end up now?
There is a difference between porn and artistic depictions of sex. Also see below.

Yeah, it's related to the nature of the adult content. I'm working with Patreon to meet their compliance changes for the page.

The project and team size has grown to the point that funding is a must (despite what some may believe, I haven't been taking any pay for a few months now -- literally all revenue and then some is going right back into the game), so we're obviously going to comply with any measures Patreon wants us to. As a contingency we've been looking at other avenues for funding, including making a less intense version of the game for funding purposes (something that's popular on Steam apparently). I'm also looking at Enty, though I don't know the specifics regarding international creators yet.
This is almost certainly to do with what is publicly visible, and not a ban on adult content in general. They aren't likely to kill a cash cow of that magnitude, not to mention the amount of work that would entail for them. Especially after they just went to such lengths to allow adult creators to use paypal.

As far as I can see, there has been no change to their adult content policy.

Another thing you might consider though, if shit does hit the fan, is using itch.io to release paid demos.

So, Kotaku just ran an article on the Patreon changes to adult content, and it features our work. Not sure if good or bad right now. Here's the article:

Theres a reason the game censorship subreddit is called .

Kotaku are the reason the #Gamergate movement started, one of the game reviewers gave a positive review to the atrocious Depression Quest that a female he was fucking had made, gamers found out and demanded more ethics in gaming journalism, the deluge of SJW trash that came out of the woodwork lambasted the entire gamer community, saying it was dead, saying gamers were misogynistic and demanded that games need to cater to women instead of portraying them as sex objects.

Nothing good can come from being featured on Kotaku, this may spark a larger debate on how PC it is to feature sex as a central mechanic in video games. Its a subject that really isn't anyone's business, but believe me, they will make it their business. These people have made a career out of making your business their business and calling into question how politically correct it is. If it comes down to it, don't let these pricks judge you.

For better or for worse, that kotaku article got posted on the pcgaming subreddit. Neon's image is on the frontpage right now. If you are very close to releasing 0.6 you could potentially cash in a lot on all the attention.

The Kotaku page is pretty tame considering how they normally operate. I check the front page and didn't even see the story featured so I wouldn't worry to much about it. Just be wary of anyone triggered by porn to send hate emails your way. If that happens don't reply you'd be better off talking to brick wall....with spikes. Just mark the mail as spam.

In general - a bad thing. I think the more attention "our" niche gets (our being everyone on these forums and other similar forums in English & Japanese who enjoy hentai games and hentai comics and anime) is bad. I really hope Japanese government still holds out in any restrictions on anime content but many countries are starting to see it as an evil thing that must be made illegal (because making stuff illegal has been oh so successful in human history right???)

So yeah, not happy with our niche getting more attention and while I am sure in short term it will bring your project more backers - which is good. In long run this is bad as it means more attention and over time perhaps suddenly some idiot government official will take notice of it and decide hey this should all be illegal.

Well i don't know about Japan, its everywhere there and there are tons of people who make a living off of it, it would be pretty tough to crack down on it. In the US it is protected by Freedom of expression, the only reason it isn't bigger is because real porn is much bigger in the states. There are plenty of 'questionable' themes in Hentai but the same similar themes exist in real porn such as BDSM, "Incest" fantasty ect. Rape hentai is similar to those, except it doesn't actually involve real humans.

Depends on what specifically mainstreamers are looking at. Malise & The Machine is pretty safe, because most people are going to look at it and just see a pornier version of Heavy Metal. I also want to point out that BDSM has lost almost all of its shock value, and is unlikely to cause any offense, unless you're using the term as a euphemism for actual torture and slavery.

I worry far less about the patreon's new TOS vs. this dev actually getting anything done. This campaign is almost 4 years strong and we're not even 25% done.

My thoughts are that under Legal needs Patron just needs people to not say on there open pages that this game is like "Insert sensitive SJW word here" that way they dont get bad media and have to make a choice on droping a group that hauls in thousands of dollars or safeguarding them and having all the SJW come at them like the ticks they are in other words they want to have the best of both worlds since under US law they cant FORCE anything so long as it dos not violate the basics.

In other words Ero just change the layout to follow the guide lines and u should be good many other groups that do Adult content on patron dont come anywhere near breaking the guidelines and never will since its not a fight worth what ever they are making
