First, to start. I have the full story of why Alice soft didn't allow English translations of their games was because of rapelay. There was huge backlash here in West and they didn't think we would take kindly to their games. They started realizing how many mangagamer business partnerships were being successful and they now wanted a peace of it. With haruka being successful, we may see more Alice soft titles.

Their current translator has quit and they hired a new one. So that slowed them down a bit.

Without further ado, I am currently in line for their next announcements here at AX. I will post in real time what they announce. It is currently 6:36 and conference starts at 10:45.

New info: VN are NOT doing well in Japan. Companies are really looking forward to expand to the west.

But mangagamer just reached 100k members. That is bringing attention to the west.

ANNOUNCED TITLES:

Supipara July 29th - will be broken into 5 episodes, one per main girl. Japan has episode 1 and 2, but sold badly. If it sells more in the west, they will sell the last 3 episodes to the west first since we would be the primary market.

If you love me, then say so (game name, not asking)

Hadaka shitsugi - naked butlers (pc, Mac and Linux)

Fashioning little miss lonesome (their first otome 18+ game). Will be both on mangagamer and all ages steam.

Dal Segno (company that made del capo).

Maggotbaits (fuck yeah! Clock up company. Creators of euphoria and eroge) this game is very dark.

That's it for new titles, nothing new for Alice soft.

So there's actually some hope of seeing that Rance 6 translation that was due over a year ago, neat.

A staffer told me to line up in the wrong line. So I am in the right line now but far in the back. Not sure if this panel has a cutoff but I'll let you guys know in about 17 minutes when they start letting us in.

Edit: I'm in. I'll start updating shorty.

I'm not surprised, quality overall has been in decline and that's not even mentioning the overuse of certain genre's/cliche's/archetypes to the point where you can read half a dozen different VN's and in the end not know which scene/character was in which derivative highschool harem drama.

Maggotbaits
Not surprising, this one was predicted months ago, still finding it noticeable just how much extreme/guro games are getting translated recently (starless, euphoria etc.) and a significant portion of earlier ones too (things like dustmania grotesque, yandere) And I dunno man, after sitting through dustmania I can no longer take guro seriously, I just see that shit as the author hilariously desperately trying to create shocking and I can't help but find the whole deal laughable. Still, Maggotbaits is apparently a decent game that some dude on Mangagamer was obsessed with.

Good news about the industry expanding is that it'll likely get easier to acquire its products.

Which translator are you talking about? The guy who did Haruka is working on the Chuablesoft game so he definitely didn't quit or get fired.

Anyway, overall I'm happy with this set. Alicesoft is hopefully being saved for Otakon and what was announced here isn't bad. A lot more recent games then usual and of a good variety. If you Love Me Then Say So is definitely what I'm most looking forward to, because it apparently lets you choose at what point of the game you confess to the heroine and changes things based on that. Should be interesting.

Guess it was a side translator. The one working on imouto paradise 2. The main translator was present at the speech.

Re: New games being announced at anime expo

what a dream, alicesoft hates the west.
Did you not read what I posted? Alicesoft likes Westerners. They were just afraid to sell their games to us after the rapelay backlash.

They are seeing results and know the western market actually wants them.

Alicesoft definitely doesn't hate the west, but even if they loved them you still wouldn't see daiteikoku. It has a decently bad reputation in Japan from what I understand and is extremely long. Quest we'll probably get eventually due to an active MG translator working on it as a side project to get it ready for a quick release once they license it, but daiteikoku is very unlikely. To many other good things to get out first.

FYI, Rapelay is made by Illusion, not Alicesoft. i don't think Alicesoft hates foreigner. if they did, then there shouldn't be Rance series (as Rance is indeed a foreigner LOL).

Mangagamer gets the green light from alicesoft to translate Haruka. sadly, we will never get any translated Rance 5 and Rance 6 because of that since they already partnered with alicesoft beforehand.

i won't be counting on Alicesoft stuffs anyway. although some of their games are good (Daibanchou, Sengoku Rance), the rest are quite meh. the company's tendency to troll the fans are not good either (i'm looking at you Toushin Toshi 3!!!), so yeah.

Re: New games being announced at anime expo

i didn't say rapelay was from alicesoft. i said alicesoft saw the stigmata behind what happened with rapelay and thought that, that was how the westerners felt about all japanese VN games. so they did not release anything to us for the longest time.

now that they see otherwise, they are happen to give us some of their own games. mangagamers had a big slideshow of all the companies that are partnered with them currently and alicesoft's banner was in it.

currently mangagamers has 30+ japanese companies and 10+ western indie companies license to work with.

in total they have 15+ games currently being translated and you can find the rest on mangagamers VNDB.
