I ended up just memory editing for the final scenario. Game isn't hard, just really tedious since the AI keeps materializing troops out of thin air and you don't really have much influence over battle outcomes; it's not like you can build a balanced army with archers and siege and whatnot, you just spam your most expensive units each turn. Doesn't help that the final 3 generals all have 'win button' powers. Was not impressed when I got denied the final CGs and the game suggested I play on a difficulty where the AI gets to cheat even more. Yeah, no.
About the only tip I can think of for people who want to give it a go is that you must always leave troops behind when you attack. The AI will always send an attack and take the territory you came from, and since it does not have production restrictions you can end up wasting dozens of turns running around chasing after the AI as it plays musical chairs with your back territory.
