Is steam really that profitable? I thought most people bought h games off DLsite or even itch io.
Edit: apparently I posted the same thing not that long ago. This proves how genuine my shock and lack of understanding that steam as a storefront is a deal breaker. The man makes bank on Patreon. He's gonna keep making bank. Who cares? This also worries me because if he stops development to make something "more profitable" what....is it gonna be some shitty dating sim or something?
Have they explained WHY they won't let it on?
Let me put it this way.
'Latex Dungeon' (

) is a game that first appeared on DLsite in April 2021, since that time it has sold about 6800 copies, the same game, albeit uncensored came to Steam in mid march and has sold over 30,000 copies since that time (according to the dev), not only that, but Steam's cut of your profits is
much less than that of DLsite, which takes between 40-50% of the sale, whereas Steam takes between 20-30%, there values change based on how many you sell, there are contract details that i am not privy to, but basically Steam has explosive sales potential, it also doesn't generally require petty mosaic censorship which is just straight up annoying.
using extremely fuzzy math, that adds up to about 35k Dlsite take home income and 210k (at least) from Steam. So yeah, its a pretty big deal.
Latex dungeon is a pretty good game, it has very twisted, Giger-esque abominations that are integrated with the sexualized female form, but in my opinion it's quality as a game pales in comparison to Castle of Temptation. Theres no telling how much Poring stands to lose by not being allowed to sell his game on the biggest platform, but its likely very substantial.
By the way, i guess the latest news is that Steam identified him as a user who had been previously banned, so rather than review the game based on the changes he made, they banned him again for circumventing the previous ban. I don't know if theres any other recourse for him now in regards to this, it even puts into question future work since he would have now been banned in two separate occasions.
