I'm not exactly keen on either being brutally raped and beaten. It just seems odd (to me) to create a character specifically for that and give it such an engrossing back-story and a mental disability that in essence, makes any hentai of said character pedophilia. I don't see any thing wrong with Zu back story.... maybe its just how one reads it. If you think of it in a lighter way and adapt it to a real life scenario (Hey Zu look a shinny penny) "Zu YAY a penny" *bends over picks up* (sweet) *throws penny on ground* (hey Zu look another shinny penny) "Zu YAY a penny" *bends over picks up* so on an so on till bored of or out of penny's. and if that don't work theres always

Often times characters are created in specific situations to garner sympathy or any other set base emotion from the person reading it. Entertainment in this manner is used in a lot of media , and generally has been for a long, long time.
There are quite a few fetishes that rely on self-embarrassment or the humiliation of others. I just can't bring myself to understand a few of these. There's one fairly talented artist on Fur Affinity who created a married couple, the female a worthless whore who would do nothing but cheat on the male, and the male a good-natured but rather wimpy guy.

I was trying to think of why I was initially so repulsed by the backstory, yet StudioS games and things of that nature don't even make me blink.
The only reason I could come up with is that it is so different. Taking advantage of/molesting a mentally handicapped catgirl is something we don't come across that often. Therefore initially, it seemed much more shocking.

Like any movie. Those ten guys who had one quick appearence before getting blown up/shot/another form of death? We didn't know anything about them, so we didn't care. But when a main character who's sad backstory has been explained dies, we all react emotionally because we've developed a small connection to them, even if they are fake.
Same applies here. StudioS generic magegirl being horribly raped and murdered? We don't know anything about her, so while the act might be nasty, we don't react emotionally. However, since Zu has a developed background and personality, we react based on our loose attachment to the character.
