Scourge of the Silver Marches

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

"Yeah that be an evil artifact for ya, so if yer ready ta go my axe is still quite hungry fer some more blood." Holi says as he continues to watch below.

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

"Hold up." Malacet says calmly, raising a hand towards Holi. "We're facing undead, and a lot of them. If we can use this thing to our advantage, we have to at lest try. If someone can magically boost my willpower, I think I stand a very good chance of taking control of it, at least until we get out of here. Anyone?" She doesn't wait for an answer, instead casting a spell of her own, using her force of personality to bolster her willpower as well.

((Dark One's Own Luck, changing the bonus from Fort to Will, I'll go edit the sheet right now.))

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

Bolm looks doubtfully at her; "Ye sure about this? Things like that tend to be corrupting, even if you resist their initial attempt at control, they have more subtle ways of twisting you to their own ends."

Trex, also apparently concerned; "I dislike the idea of using the enemies own dark methods against them, but if you believe that it will aid us, and that you can prevent it from taking control of you, then good luck to you."

The samurai scowls at Malacets idea, but remains silent.

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

"All right, if you think it's best. The first sign o' trouble though and I'm yanking it off ya." Holi adds moving by Malacet.

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

Carella laughs at Malacet, "Don't... be a fool..." She struggles to stand up, "Unlike me, the... evilness, of this artifact... will hurt you simply from touch..."
(Or is it too much for Carella to know that if a non evil character picks up a NE artifact they gain a negative level?)

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

Malacet shakes her head slowly at Carella. "It recognizes it's own, however. When my body was warped, it did come with some benefits. The amulet shouldn't be able to recognize that I am not a kindred spirit. Can anyone boost my willpower further, just to be safe?" She asks.

(Owl's Wisdom, anyone? If not, she'll put it on and start the battle of wills.)

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

"Well, if yer sure about it." Bolm says, before casting a pair of spells on Malacet, one to boost her willpower, and another to make her more resistant to spells.

(Owls Wisdom and Greater Resistance. +4 to Wisdom and +3 to all saves.)

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

"Better than I expected, thank you Bolm." Malacet says, before putting on the necklace, bracing herself for the mental battle.

((So I'm pretty sure that either totals to +20, or the Greater Resistace and Dark One's Own Luck don't stack, totalling +17 :3 ))

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

(Dark Ones own luck gives a Luck bonus, and Greater Resistance gives a Resistance bonus, so they work together just fine. Greater Resistance doesn't stack with your ring of resistance though, so it technically only gives an additional +1, putting your Will save at +18. Unless you already accounted for that.)

"I wouldn't want ye risking your neck with that thing without as much aid as I could give ye, may the Light aid ye lass." Bolm replies.

UMD: 1d20+9 = 10+9 = 19 vs DC15 = success.
Gain Control Will Save: 1d20+18 = 2+18 = 20 vs DC22 = failure.
Lose Control Will Save: 1d20+18 = 13+18 = 31 vs DC16 = success.

Malacet puts on the amulet, and is quickly overwhelmed by the same presence that had nearly controlled Carella. She is paralyzed by the artifacts negative energies, but she resists the amulets whispers in her mind, promising power and immortality.

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

((That makes sense, +18 it is. Also, I hate my rolls :/))

Malacet's face tightens in concentration, and her hands slowly clench and unclench as she was unprepared for the intensity of the amulet's power, focusing herself and fighting back.

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

Gain Control Will Save: 1d20+18 = 5+18 = 23 vs DC22 = success.

Malacet pushes against the controlling influence of the evil artifact, and suddenly its dark influence seems to recede, and its voice no longer speaks in her mind. She can still feel its consciousness emanating from the amulet, but it no longer pushes against her mind. She grins in victory, before immediately collapsing to the floor, exhausted from her mental battle and the small waves of negative energy that the artifact had been going through her body.

(Malacet is fatigued for 3 hours. She also has control of the amulet, which allows her to attempt to rebuke undead and allows her to cast Create Undead 4x a day and Create Greater Undead 1x a day, and can cast Animate Dead an unlimited number of times per day, so long as she has a suitable corpse. These spells require no material components. Caster level is your character level.)

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

Carella turns to join the watch for more ghouls, "Hmph... congratulations..."

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

((Fatigued is what, -2 to attacks, skill checks and ability checks, right?))

Malacet drops to the ground despite herself, but immediately holds her hand out to stop everyone from thinking she has lost to it as well. She takes a long, deep breath, in and out, before speaking. "I'm fine, just mentally exhausted. Give me a hand up, and let's finish this, I already want the thing off." She says, and her outstretched hand rotates from a sign to hold them off to a hand they can grab.

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

(From the SRD: A fatigued character can neither run nor charge and takes a –2 penalty to Strength and Dexterity. Doing anything that would normally cause fatigue causes the fatigued character to become exhausted. After 8 hours of complete rest, fatigued characters are no longer fatigued.)

The samurai pulls Malacet to her feat and helps keep her up; "Beware the stones influence. It is not so different from this accursed armor, do not let it control you. Do not listen to its offers, the more you use it, the more of a hold it will gain on you."

A moment later, a voice echoes, in Common, from down below; "What's taking you so long heroes? I might have eternity, but your death awaits you below. Come, I hunger!"

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

((SRD is a pain ti view on my cell. Most pages are, really. Thankie :) ))

Malacet nods slowly. "I'm well aware how much of a corrupting influence evil can be, but thank you." She says in a grave tone of voice, resting her weight on the man for the time being and turning to peer down the hall, towards where the voice came from. "Are we ready?" She asks calmly.

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

Instead of answering, Granth is near the stairs calling down, Oi, hold your horses: we're taking a bathroom break before we come down and fry your ass.

(Couldn't resist doing that)

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

"Ready to leave when you guys are." Then he turns to Bolm. "Is there some sort of spell you have to give her a second wind? She looks like she needs a pick-me-up. Poor girl..."

(Thinking of Lesser Restoration, if that wasn't obvious. ;) )

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

"Aye I be ready ta go anytime," Holi says as he finishes off one of the bottles he brought with from upstairs.

Re: Scourge of the Silver Marches

Bolm does as Tod asked, casting a spell to rejuvenate Malacet, which restores the energies disrupted by the touch of the amulet.

At Granths reply, deep rich laughter can be heard from down below, then an otherworldly screech.

Trex glares down into the darkness at the bottom of the stairs and starts walking down, prepared to face whatever was down there. Aramil watches him go for a second, and then shrugs and follows, his weapons still drawn. The samurai sticks by Malacet, despite the fact that she no longer truly needs his support.
