Marias foot slams into the gruffs head, but its thick skull manages to absorb enough of the blow that it is only momentarily stunned. The troll still backs away, and none of the other Fey can get around its massive bulk to attack her, giving Maria a chance to run, or get in a free attack against the injured gruff or troll. The way the fight was going, running was looking like a much better option than staying to engage the large group of enemies.

Maria raises a leg and tries to drop it down hard on the troll before slowing down to consider her options. Running to the back of the hallway, Maria finds that the other two gruffs had squeezed into the hallway after the troll had pulled back, and they were joined by the one she'd only managed to wound earlier, rushing toward her with complete single-mindedness. She immediately fires at one of the uninjured ones, trying for a crippling wound on its leg rather than a kill.

The shot from Marias new gun almost blows the gruffs foot clean off as she shatters his ankle, and he crumbles to the ground, screaming in pain. The other two Fey watch as their friend crumples to the floor, screaming in agony, and turn to regard Maria cautiously. Instead of continuing their rush, they stay back, waiting for her to fire another shot and hoping that they could avoid a fate similar to the one their companion had been given for trying to attack her.

The two gruffs stay where they're standing as Maria backs away, evidently unwilling to risk ending up like their crippled companion, who was still writhing in agony on the floor. She hit the wall next to the door out of the building.

Her rifle barks sharply as she fires, and a second gruff crumbles to the ground screaming. The third, however, rushes forward.

Maria easily avoids his swing, side-stepping his attack, and his sword ends up buried in the wall where she'd been standing a moment ago.

The two blasts are absorbed by the wall, leaving a black mark, but cause her no harm.

With a thought and a sudden shunt of concentration, Maria cleanly decapitates the gruff. His corpse falls to the ground with a thump, followed shortly after by his severed head.
