I felt the same way, this sure looked like rock and the sprite pixel art is good, won't deny that, but the game as a whole? Definitely outclassed by its ("rightful", fair i.e. same era etc etc) competition.
That being said, i think i should give it a second chance, because i never actually really went past stage 1, besides, i now have a knack for appreciating certain things i didn't care for before too. (Though i wonder if this one has any of that....Eh, anyway.)
